Canadian metallers GOAT HORN have parted ways with drummer Steelrider.
Commented bassist/vocalist Jason Decay: "Steelrider has left the band due to a leg condition that has been bothering him for a year and a half. We have a session drummer right now, but we are looking for a permanent replacement. We'll probably wait untill we find the new person before we make an official announcement."
GOAT HORN will be entering the studio this spring to record the follow up to their "Threatening Force" EP. The band are currently in talks with a handful of labels about a possible release of their new CD, which is expected this fall.
GOAT HORN's upcoming CD was hand-picked as one of the "50 Most Anticipated Albums" in the February 2006 issue of Decibel magazine. Other bands featured in the issue included IRON MAIDEN, HATEBREED, IN FLAMES, LACUNA COIL, MASTODON, SLAYER and SHADOWS FALL.
Regarding what the fans can expect from the band's upcoming release, Decay said, "Basically what you can expect is something that you can sit up on a pedestal next to 'Master of Puppets'."

Hewhocorrupts Inc. has announced the signing of 7000 Dying Rats to its roster. 7000 Dying Rats will release its first full-length in over five years, entitled Season In Hell, on November 6, 2006.
7000 Dying Rats' brand of comedic grindcore can be summed up with many key marketable terms; diversified, mitigating, volatile, efficient, etc. When explaining the 7KDR sound to an unnamed photographer, screamer Toney Vast-Binder explained, "we kinda sound like this pizza that I'm eating, I guess you can classify us as garbage grind". The group's penchant for delivering extremely eclectic music while holding on to their comedic roots has confusingly scored the group a well-attentive audience (blood) thirsty for a new record.
Their lineup over the past 10+ years has remained as sporatic as their sound, including members of Cattle Decapitation, My Lai, TV Pow, and many more. The current lineup consists of Steve Rathbone and D.J. Barraca (Lair of the Minotaur), Toney Vast-Binder (Gun Kata), Josh Diebel (The Christpunchers), and Weasel Walter (Flying Luttenbachers, XBXRX) with additional work on the record contributed by Scott Kelly (Neurosis). 7KDR's abundant discography includes two full-lengths, a triple 7" box set, two 7"s, two tapes, and countless compilations on a wide variety of record labels, including Toyo, Tumult, Invisible, etc.
Season In Hell is currently being recorded at Volume Studios (Lair of the Minotaur, Modern Life Is War, Pelican) with Sanford Parker. When asked about the signing, Andy Slania and Ryan Durkin of Hewhocorrupts Inc concluded, "We are very excited to be a part of the future of 7000 Dying Rats. Hewhocorrupts would not be a band or have the sound that we do if it wasn't for them. I think it is important to for everyone to hear another 7000 Dying Rats record. Besides the fact that we feel like strippers on ecstacy just knowing one is coming out. This is a controlled composition. But make no mistake this will be a 7000 Dying Rats record, unchanged and the way they and they alone envision it."

Spook City Records has officially announced the addition of two bands to their roster, Blood Stands Still and Fight Like Hell.
Formed in 1999, California's Blood Stands Still released an EP with Warmachine Records last fall and self-released a full-length in 2003. Their Spook City debut will be available later this year. In the meantime, you can download some of the band's material here.
Meanwhile, Denver's Fight Like Hell formed in May of 2005 and put out a demo in November with Blood Money Records. The band's debut EP should hit streets this summer. You can check out two songs from the demo here.
Jonathan Cohen and Susan Butler report for Billboard.com: Despite rumors that Velvet Revolver members Slash and Duff McKagan will rejoin Guns N' Roses for a summer tour, the group is actually at work on its sophomore RCA album with an unlikely collaborator: uber hip-hop producer Pharrell Williams.
Williams is also working with Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland on a song titled "Happy," which will likely appear on Weiland's second solo album. Williams confirmed the projects with Billboard.com but did not reveal additional details.
"With the first record, it was kind of a feeling out process on a technical level," Weiland told Billboard.com in December. "We were sort of bonded by blood in a sense, because we'd gone through very similar circumstances. On this record, I have a real concept in mind. Because of that, it will be a very album-oriented record instead of a singles-driven record."
Sounds of the Underground is rapidly taking shape. Tickets will be available through a pre-sale via Artist Arena on April 11 at noon local times. Tickets go on sale to the public April 15th (some exceptions), check local listings.
This year, the extravaganza will begin on July 8th in Cleveland, Ohio and run for the better part of the summer.
As was previously announced this years powerhouse lineup consists of; As I Lay Dying, In Flames, Trivium, Cannibal Corpse, GWAR, Terror, The Black Dahlia Murder, Behemoth, The Chariot and Through the Eyes of the Dead. SOTU is excited to have some special guests join the tour in select cities. Killswitch Engage will join in Mansfield, MA on July 14. Joining SOTU for the Phoenix and San Diego shows only are new American metal pioneers Shadows Fall, modern metalcore band It Dies Today, and Still Remains. Starting in Orlando, FL on July 19, Jacksonville 's own true hardcore champions Evergreen Terrace have been added to the majority of the tour.
Now on board; Tour Sponsor Jagermeister (for the 2nd year), and Online Sponsors: Digital Metal, Lambgoat and Download Punk have been added as event sponsors, joining the rest of the entrepreneurial powers that be who view Sounds of the Underground as the new definitive voice for independent metal festivals.

I first came in contact with Josh Gregory of Al-Ce-Mi outside Hollywood's famed Whisky A Go Go on The Sunset Strip back in January of this year. I was there to review My Ruin and as we both dragged off respective cigarettes, I mistook Josh as someone waiting in line to buy a ticket, when in fact he was the front man for one of the opening bands. Al-Ce-Mi rolls it loc'd up straight outta Whittier, California. This act is a fusion of both the good vibe-type So Cal ska/metal/punk band like Sublime and the harsher street influenced Suicidal Tendencies. They offer lyrics that make you examine and go within yourself to find the truer self, and I think in an overwhelming sea of metal bands today that typically will go straight for playing the 'evil card' every time out, Al-Ce-Mi is a refreshing alternative and certainly a band of growing significance to the underground metal scene. Irish folk metal band CRUACHAN have finished mastering their fifth album, "The Morrigan's Call", tentatively due in June via Greece's Black Lotus Records. The follow-up to 2004's "Pagan" was recorded at Sun Studios in Dublin and will be preceded by the release of a single, "The Very Wild Rover". In addition to the title cut, the single will contain the bonus songs "Bloody Sunday Unplugged", "Timmy" and "Brian Boru".
Commented CRUACHAN's Keith Fay (vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboards): "We have had a disaster with the cover of the new album. The cover took my brother John over four months of painstaking work and looked amazing. He had an argument with his girlfriend on Sunday night (26th March) and she unbelievably destroyed all his artwork, including the cover. This might delay the release date although he is planning to take some time off work and complete a brand new cover in under two weeks! Here's hoping he can pull it off and keep it away from his girlfriend!!!"
Swedish Death metallers CENTINEX have posted the following message:
"We hereby announce that after 16 years in the business the swedish death metal act Centinex call it quits. This might come as a surprise to many of you, especially after releasing such a strong and critcally acclaimed album as “World Declension”. However, things came to such a point where the only solution was to call it a day. Without going too deep into all the details I can tell you that there are many reasons (personal, musical etc) for this decision and believe me, everything is well thought out.
Hereby we stop all band activities and our farewell show will be the already booked appearance in Eskilstuna, Sweden, on May 13th.
We wanna thank and salute each and everyone out there who have supported us in some way during all these years. Of course all the members will go on with metal, jointly and individually, in various bands and projects. So you will sure hear from us in the near future.
Thanx for your attention in Centinex and remember to keep the flame burning!!
Martin Schulman & Centinex, Avesta, Sweden, April 2nd 2006."

Hatebreed's "To The Threshold" has been used in one of Verizon's recent online ads entitled "Helevator" promoting their VCAST service.
Verizon has done a great job with the ad. To sum it up, some people get stuck in an elevator and a girl whips out her phone to play a song. One of the choices is Hatebreed's "To The Threshold," which I of course selected given the other lame choices. What ensued was quite entertaining and well done for an ad. You can try it for yourself here (select the "Helevator" clip). How the geeky/wussy guy gets his shirt back on is a mystery to me...

Due to manufacturing issues, the release of the ARCTURUS DVD, entitled "Shipwrecked in Oslo" and initially scheduled for April 24th via Season of Mist, hasd been postponed to May 22nd.
From the new headquarters in Berlin, Sturmgeist proudly announces that the second album "Über" has been mastered and the European release date has been set to June, 19th, on Season of Mist. Like its predecessor "Meister Mephisto" (Season of Mist, 2005), "Über" contains a host of dramatic, down-tuned songs inspired by Germanic culture and history. As 2006 marks the 250th birthday of the Austrian composer Mozart, Sturmgeist think it appropriate to commemorate him with a heavy cover of Falco's song "Rock me Amadeus". Other track titles are "Dobermann", "Party Über Alles", "Grimanic Guerillas", and "Hindenburg". Drummer AntiChristian (Grimfist, Tsjuder) ensures the lethal pounding necessary to the Sturmgeist sound, along with new guitarist John Erik Jacobsen. "Über", recorded at TopRoom Studio in Norway, is mixed by Børge Finstad and produced by Cornelius von Jackhelln.
In related news, the third volume in Cornelius Jakhelln's "Quadra Natura" four-book poetry cycle has now hit the bookshelves in Norway. The book's full title is "Fagernorn. Quadra Natura 0111", and deals with the identity of the individual in relation to nationality and cultural heritage. Avid readers of Cornelius' lyrics in Solefald and Sturmgeist will certainly recognize the eclectic playfulness and hardcore pathos present in "Fagernorn".
Bangalore, India-based thrashers KRYPTOS have inked a deal with OSM Records.
Formed in the winter of 1998 by founding members Ganesh K (bass, vocals) and Nolan Lewis (guitar) with the sole purpose of paying homage to the glorious '80s metal/thrash scene, KRYPTOS' debut album, "Spiral Ascent", came out in 2004 and featured cover artwork by Niklas Sundin of DARK TRANQUILLITY.
Commented OSM Records CEO Patrick Ramseier: "We are very excited to welcome KRYPTOS to the OSM family. KRYPTOS plays aggressive yet melodic thrash metal. The plan for KRYPTOS is to enter the studio in September to record the follow up to their acclaimed debut record 'Spiral Ascent' for a 2007 release. In the meanwhile you can still order 'Spiral Ascent' through OSM or via The End Records."

APOCALYPTICA recently signed a worldwide, multi-album recording deal with 20-20 Entertainment, Martin Dodd's New York-based joint venture with Sony BMG International. The band plan to enter the studio later in the year to record their sixth album, which will feature new material with unidentified collaborations.
Since the release of their debut 1996 album "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos" on Finnish indie label Zen Garden, the band has sold roughly 2.5 million albums, according to Sony BMG.
Until recently, the act was signed to Universal Music Germany. Their most recent album, "Apocalyptica" (Vertigo/Universal) was released in Europe in early 2005.
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message in the "Forums" section of the band's official web site:
"[I] spent the last few days tracking with [Glen Drover, guitar] and [Shawn Drover, drums], and it is the coolest thing to see them be a part of it for real now. And yesterday especially, was an interesting guitar day, when I witnessed the moment the songs went from an idea in my head to [Glen] getting it. And he is such a great player that each song immediately comes to life as soon as he played on it.
"Got some good news to report coming up this week and I wanted to personally thank every one of you that helped our new DVD ['The Arsenal of Megadeth'] debut at #6 in America.
"This is going to be a great year!!!"
MEGADETH's appearance at this year's Desert Rock 2006 festival on March 16 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates marked their debut performance with new bassist James Lomenzo, who has previously played with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and WHITE LION, among others.
Lomenzo joined MEGADETH as the replacement for James MacDonough (ex-ICED EARTH), who was fired from the group on February 10, 2006 due to "personal differences."
Philadelphia's All Else Failed have officially signed with Thorp Records. Formed in 1995, the band has previously released albums with Now Or Never Records and Abacus Recordings. This spring the group will enter the studio with Nick Rotundo (Boy Sets Fire) to record five new songs. Those songs, in addition to a handful of out-of-print and unreleased tracks, will comprise their Thorp debut, entitled "Good Enough For The Girls We Roll With." Look for the effort to hit stores late this summer.
