It has been confirmed that Justin Reynolds, the drummer of Tampa, Florida based metal outfit The Absence, was involved in a bad car accident sometime last week. The full extent of his injuries are currently unclear but he has reportedly suffered damage to his neck and back.

Gwar has checked in with the following recap of their "Crack-a-Thon" 2010 appearance:
"After a week and a half of utter silence (and even less interest) Gwar's much-touted 'Crack-a-Thon 2010' was today revealed to be a 'complete disaster,' doing nothing to alleviate lead singer's Oderus Urungus' crack debt, which grew to four times its pre-Crack-a-Thon size. The MF Gallery, which hosted the event, was left in flaming ruin, until a squad of evil dwarfs emerged from the rubble, rebuilding the structure overnight.
"Despite stellar performances (Andrew WK, Kembra Phaler of The Voluptuos Horror of Karen Black), compelling interviews (Jamey Jasta, Mecronos of the band Dethrace), and exceptional bartending (Balsac the Jaws of Death), the highly-anticipated fund-raising drive actually ended up 'losing millions,' according to Betty Fizzbin, Crack-a-Thon official and part-time rodeo animal. She continued-- 'We actually made a ton of money...I mean the phones were ringing off the hooks, and cash was literally pouring into the box office! But then Oderus locked himself in the receipt booth and smoked it all up. He didn't even try to buy crack, he just smoked the money...'
"And while the Crack-a-Thon may have failed in its goal, everybody associated with this first-time webTV event agreed it was a lot of fun 'watch Oderus completely lose his shit.' As an obviously intoxicated Urungus stumbled around the stage, mumbling and throwing things, co-host Balsac the Jaws of Death kept things moving at a brisk pace, as the legions of celebrity guests were brought on and off with alarming regularity. Show highlights included Andrew WK and Oderus' duet of 'Candle in the Wind,' Kembra Phaler smashing paint-filled eggs into her vagina, and numerous appearances by homeless animal rights activist Chippy the Chippopautamus. Stockholm, Sweden's Crucifyre has signed on with Pulverised Records. Formed in 2006, the band features the lineup of vocalist Erik Tormentor Sahlström (General Surgery, Maze Of Torment, Serpent Obscene), guitarists TG (The Sun, Morbid) and Urban Skytt (Crematory, Regurgitate, Nasum), bassist Henrik Doltz Nilsson (Dobermann Cult), and drummer Yasin Hillborg (Afflicted).
Commented Hillborg of the signing: "Working with Pulverised feels great. It's like we've come home and have been given the chance to do what we do best: deliver auditory terror in the most evil and aggressive way."
Added Pulverised label manager Roy Yeo: "With present and past members from such highly respected bands, it is really interesting to see what these guys could come up with. I can only say that the debut album has exceeded my expectations! Crucifyre is exactly the kind of band that displayed the attitude of those early demo bands and with the integral nastiness that death metal should be known for."
Crucifyre's debut full-length will be released via Pulverised Records later this year. Further information on the album will be announced as it is made available.

We will remember the festival for a very long time.

These festivals are organised by true fans who spend thousands of hours of their time dedicated to the music they love. Los Angeles rockers My Ruin have issued the following comments about the recent death of Type O Negative front man Peter Steele:
"When I heard the sad news that Peter Steele had passed away I really didn’t want to believe it was true because 48 is so young and when someone you know dies it really makes you think about your own mortality and how life can be cut short in a moment. It makes you think of a lot of things. I met Peter back in 1996 when my previous band ‘Manhole’ was asked to join Type O Negative on their October Rust tour along with Life of Agony. We spent 2 months rockin the USA together and a cold and grey skied month in Europe which ironically seemed to be the perfect backdrop for the tour at the time.
"From the first day I met Peter I thought he was so funny but not in the typical funny guy way. He had this self-deprecating sense of humor that was kind of unusual for a front man in rock and he was definitely not your usual lead singer. He never seemed to take himself too seriously for a majestic man whose 6’7 commanding presence could come off very intimidating to those who didn’t know him. I always found him to be nice and even a bit insecure on occasion even and I used to joke that he reminded me of the Wolfman, Frankenstein and Dracula all rolled up into one sinisterly handsome rockstar. I remember being on the road together and after shows people would to ask me to introduce them to him because they were afraid to approach him which I always found funny and so did he when I told him.
"Writers were always curious during interviews as to how he was treating me while on the tour because he had such a strange reputation when it came to women. Once when we were doing an on the road feature for Metal Hammer Magazine he came backstage and saw I was doing a photo shoot and decided he wanted to be in a few shots with me so we hammed it up together for the camera. Before meeting Peter, I remember thinking he was probably going to be a complete asshole to me but he was actually the total opposite and I was pleasantly surprised. He was very sweet and treated me with respect while on the road which meant a great deal to me at the time. He went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and would always let me use the kettle, mirror and bathroom in his dressing room before we went on stage if ours happened to be a shithole which it was on many nights. It may sound silly but it was little things like that which meant a lot to me as a woman on tour with a bunch of dudes. More...

Derelict has checked in with the following comments about their upcoming tour dates:
"Well, if I was salivating at the prospect of the tour in my last post, you can probably imagine that now I’m close to completely losing my mind. We kick this whole shin-dig off tonight with our show in Montreal supporting Job For A Cowboy and Whitechapel, which promises to be one of our biggest home town gigs to date. We had our final rehearsal last night and played everything. Our tour set lists will include Machete, Pirates, Summoning the Firestorm, Forth With The Herd, Polarized, Xenocide, Never Reborn, and Surrounded by Decline, all off Unspoken Words, as well as some new songs we’re road testing called Motivational Placebo, Destined, Expiry, and Lithification. We might also be able to throw in Demonizing from Unspoken Words, depending on Joey. He’s new to the band as many of you know, and he’s been killing himself to learn everything and keep up with us. Chances are Demonizing will be learned in the van while driving, so we should have some good video of that.

Swedish heavy metal band Enforcer is preparing for the release of the new album "Diamonds," on May 24th in Europe through Earache Records and in the rest of the world on May 25th through Heavy Artillery Records. Front man Olof Wikstrand has now issued the following track-by-track break down of the second half of the album:
"Diamonds: I think it's really important to be consistent with some things and to open the B-side with an instrumental track is one of those things I want to make a trademark. It's built on two parts where we stole the last part from a song that Joseph had in a completely different band years ago. We knew we wanted to use that somewhere on the record. We sat down one day and just decided to make it a song. So we begun with a riff that I intended to use to another part, and we just jammed up the rest to the first part. Cool and spontaneously. The vocals in the end of the song are sang by a friend to us from a local rock band in Stockholm called The Vanjas.
"Live for the Night: Live for the Night is without doubt the fastest song on the album and pretty much a leftover from 'Into the Night'. Even though it's a great song, I figured that it wasn't gonna make it to the 'Into the Night' album as a whole back then so I saved it for later. I also wanted to put the fastest song after the instrumental to keep up that consistency also on this album. The lyrics are about a dark demon that comes up from hell to destroy your life!" More...

Occasionally I find myself in the nose bleed section of the cable listings, somewhere past TBS, USA, and TNT, but before the dreaded Country Music Channel.
