Shadows Fall will be joining the Sounds of the Underground Tour this summer alongside GWAR, Chimaira, Job For A Cowboy, and Every Time I Die.
Vocalist Brian Fair had this to say about the tour:
“It is going to be another summer of insanity for the boys in Shadows Fall, and we couldn't be more stoked. Not only are we looking forward to partying with our friends in Darkest Hour, Every Time I Die, Chimiara and Gwar, but also to check out some killer music at one of the summer’s most diverse festival tours. We are planning on playing a set that will include songs from the early days of Shadows Fall up to our new album THREADS OF LIFE and leaving a wake of devastation behind. So bust out the sun screen, put the beers on ice and get ready to rock ‘cuz the SHADS are coming back to town.”
Once again, here are the latest Sounds of the Underground 2007 tour dates: More...
Hatebreed front man, Jamey Jasta, will be hosting this year’s Dimebag Darrell Black Tooth Bash on May 17, 2007 at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. Featuring a slough of guest performances, Dimebag’s Black Tooth Bash will be an all-star event, with all proceeds going to the Little Kids Rock foundation, Dimebag Darrell’s charity of choice. The Black Tooth Bash will include mash up performances by the Black Tooth Band, featuring Vinnie Paul Abbott, Scott Ian, John 5, Matt Byrne (Hatebreed), Ripper Owens, David Draiman (Disturbed), Bob Zilla (Damageplan) Dave Navarro, Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) and many more. The Black Tooth Band will cover material from Dimebag’s many projects – including Pantera classics. Jamey will close the night by performing as part of the Black Tooth Band and will be hosting the entire tribute event.
Jasta will also be introducing a special performance by the L.A. division of The Little Kids Rock Foundation, showing the fruits of the foundation’s labors. The Black Tooth Bash is an apropos tribute to Dimebag’s impact on metal and his ardent dedication to bringing the arts to children. In support of the Black Tooth Bash, Coffin Case, Seymour Duncan, Dean Guitars, Schecter Guitars, EMG Pickups and GHS Strings have jumped on as the evening’s sponsors.
Preceding the Black Tooth Bash is the Six String Masterpieces: The Dimebag Darrell Art Tribute auction, where over 60 hand-painted Dean guitars (painted by celebrities and famous tattoo artists) will be auctioned off. Proceeds from the auction will benefit The Little Kids Rock Foundation, helping bring music programs to public schools throughout the US. Fittingly, Dimebag will also be inducted into the Hollywood Rockwalk at noon the same day, establishing his timeless impact on the rock and metal world.
TMZ.com reports that a lawsuit has been filed against Guns N' Roses band members over $107,000 in unpaid bills stemming from their 2006 tour. In documents obtained by the site, Starlift Logistics claims it was hired to provide transportation and touring services for Axl Rose and the crew by two companies that work on behalf of the band.
MTV.com reports: For the first time since the inaugural Coachella in 1999, the Machine was Raged Against in the California desert, and damn, it felt good. So good we can almost forgive Zack de la Rocha for basically being invisible for the past half-decade.
Of the 124 acts that performed at Coachella this year, one mattered a little more than all the others, and that was the reunited Rage Against the Machine, who headlined the final of three days with a set just as ferocious as guitarist Tom Morello promised.
The fiercely outspoken Los Angeles quartet have said they're reforming because the current political environment needs them (see "Nightwatchman, Rage Reunion Have Morello Fired Up For Political Fights") — and there was clearly no doubt Sunday just how, well, enraged Rage are about what's going in the world, particularly in Iraq.
Although de la Rocha said virtually nothing between songs, one tirade in the middle of "Wake Up" said it all. "Our current administration needs to be tried, hung and shot," the singer boldly stated. "We need to treat them like the war criminals they are."
Rage Against the Machine proved they clearly have not lost their stride, and were all the more impressive considering the Coachella Stage lineup before them — Willie Nelson, Crowded House and Manu Chao — did very little to warm up the crowd. And when Rage finally hit the stage with "Testify," they battled a muffled sound system for the first three songs. (Perhaps their popular Battle of Coachella T-shirts proved prophetic.)
Still, the band was on, like they just got off an arena tour. De la Rocha's snapping vocals were as passionate and crisp and ever, and Morello's guitar antics gave the songs just the bit of newness they needed. Playing most of their debut album along with the hits from their other three LPs, Rage stirred up the kind of testosterone not usually associated with Coachella. (The Lemonheads, for instance, were playing simultaneously nearby.)

ALICE IN CHAINS has commenced the songwriting process for a new studio album. In an online posting by The Baldy — whose job is "to travel the world with ALICE IN CHAINS and send photos, videos and blog entries back to [the webmasters] at AliceInChains.com" — he writes, "I've been [in Los Angeles] for five days, sat through three rehearsals and one demo recording session, listened to several other demos, and I can happily report that the new stuff is kicking my ass right out of my pants. Remember that these songs are still only in the early stages of being written too. Just in the time I've been here, the guys have taken a riff and worked on it and expanded it and added layers to it, and now it's practically a full-fledged song."
ALICE IN CHAINS has been added to the list of artists who will take the stage for tribute performances at the second annual "VH1 Rock Honors". This year's celebration will honor the music and influence of OZZY OSBOURNE, GENESIS, HEART and ZZ TOP.
These honorees will perform live, along with additional tribute bands QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, NICKELBACK, GRETCHEN WILSON and KEANE, on Saturday, May 12 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
Hosted by Bam Margera ("Jackass", "Viva La Bam"), "VH1 Rock Honors" will air on VH1 Thursday, May 24 at 9 p.m Eastern. Presenters will include Billy Bob Thornton, Robin Williams, Criss Angel, Taylor Hawkins and more.
ALICE IN CHAINS filmed its concert on October 31, 2006 in Providence, Rhode Island for a possible DVD release. The Halloween performance was two hours and forty minutes long, with the group playing additional songs for the filming. There's no indication yet of when the DVD could surface or what other features it might contain.
The group's most recent North American tour featured the reunited band playing a two-hour show that included an acoustic middle section as well as an eight-minute video tribute to late ALICE IN CHAINS frontman Layne Staley.
Staley died in 2002 after a long struggle with drug addiction that effectively put ALICE IN CHAINS on ice in 1996.
Los Angeles' THE FUNERAL PYRE has returned from the East Coast from the ninth annual New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. "It was an awesome time and a great experience for us, thanks to Scott Lee for hooking it up and everyone involved," THE FUNERAL PYRE's frontman said. Pictures from the band's performance this weekend can be seen here.
Currently gearing up for a few local shows, including a Hollywood appearance with Horse The Band, THE FUNERAL PYRE is also hard at work booking a three-week summer tour across the US with As Eden Burns and looking for help booking shows, via the newly-started Prosthetic Booking. Interested parties can contact them directly at firstname.lastname@example.org to help fill in any TBAs.
THE FUNERAL PYRE continues to support the band's most recent release, 'The Nature of Betrayal,' which saw a March release through Prosthetic Records after being released earlier through the Bay Area label Creator Destructor. Samples of the band's music can be found on the band's MySpace page.

German death metal band OBSCURA has announced the addition of second guitarist Johannes Rennig (PROFANITY). "It was a very hard decision to make," the group writes on its web site. "We are looking forward to the upcoming festivals and the recording mode of the new album in August this year."
OBSCURA's upcoming CD will be recorded with V. Santura (DARK FORTRESS) at The Crypt Studios in Germany. The cover art and layout will be created by German artist Timo Wuerz.
Released last year, OBSCURA's debut album, "Retribution", was produced by Alex Krull (ATROCITY, LEAVES' EYES) and includes guest appearances by V. Santura (DARK FORTRESS), Matthias Röderer (ATROCITY), Thorsten Bauer (ATROCITY) and Martl (PROFANITY).
Long-running Oakland, California-based industrial/alternative/metal pioneers NEUROSIS have posted the cover artwork for their upcoming album, "Given to the Rising", at this location. The band began recording the effort in December at Electrical Audio studio in Chicago with producer Steve Albini. "[We are] forging some strange, noisy psychedelic territory that is pretty disturbing," guitarist and singer Steve Von Till told MTV.com at the time.
Due on May 22 via Neurot Recordings, "Given to the Rising" features the following track listing:
01. Given To The Rising
02. Fear & Sickness
03. To The Wind

DENIAL FIEND, the Tampa, Florida-based band featuring Terry Butler (SIX FEET UNDER, ex-MASSACRE, DEATH), Kam Lee (ex-MASSACRE, DEATH), Curt Beeson (NASTY SAVAGE, LOWBROW) and Sam Williams (DOWN BY LAW, PSEUDO HEROES), has issued the following update:
"Due to unforeseen legal matters which resulted in a member [reportedly Kam Lee] not being able to get his passport in time, DENIAL FIEND will unfortunately not be able to attend the six European dates that were planned for this May (which included appearances at Fuck The Commerce, Neurotic Deathfest and Bringer Of Death). DENIAL FIEND were really looking forward to making their European debut and playing some great shows with VITAL REMAINS, and are extremely disappointed. However, the good news is that MASSACRE will be reforming for 23 European shows in October/November of this year with DENIAL FIEND opening (passport issues will have been resolved by then). This version of MASSACRE will include 3/5 of the 'Inhuman Condition' line-up: Kam Lee, Terry Butler and Steve Swanson with Curt Beeson and Sam Williams filling in on drums and guitar."
Commented Williams: "This is not a permanent MASSACRE reformation. But rather a way to try and make up to the fans and promoters for us having to cancel these dates in May." The tour will be know as the "Massacre Re-Animated" tour.
Look for DENIAL FIEND's debut album, "They Rise", in stores everywhere this fall through Ibex Moon Records.
Goblin (drums/bass/vocals), of cult Norwegian black metallers ISVIND, will contribute lyrics and vocals on three tracks of the new ORCRIST album, which is currently being recorded at the band’s own studio in their hometown near Milan, Italy. This will not be the first time the two bands have collaborated, having released a split 7” in 2003, although it will be the first time any of the members actually perform together. The music is being written by Orcrist drummer Grav, guitarist Bhaal, and bass player Mattia Zero to Infinity, whilst lyrics for the remaining tracks will be written and performed by the band’s own vocalist Ghosta. A label is being sought. A band known for its traditional, old school approach to Black Metal, Orcrist intend to introduce a change of pace into the new album. More...

Scum of the Earth (featuring x Rob Zombie guitarist Riggs) is currently wrapping up recording sessions for the band's second album entitled SLEAZE FREAK, to be released by Eclipse Records later this year. "We decided to write 2 more songs for the album, so after wrapping up preliminary tracking at Belt of Orion studios in Los Angeles, we took a little break to write some more material", said Riggs. "I also needed to take care of a few things back home so we postponed recording for sessions for 2 months and now we have resumed, it's great to be back to working on getting Sleaze Freak wrapped up and into the hands of the fans, we've got some great new shit to record."
The band is currently at Studio 2100 in Springfield, MO to finish tracking and mixing the new album, and expect to be finished by June 1st. When asked about a street date, Riggs replied "Eclipse hasn't set one yet. Everybody's been asking, but it makes sense what they're doing, not setting the street date until we hand over the finished masters. Plus it's allowing us to be a lot more creative, taking our time and not having a deadline looming over our heads... up until now."
"Sleaze Freak" tentative track listing (not in order):
01. Bombshell From Hell
03. Love Pig
04. Hate X 13
05. Macabro Expectaculo
06. I Am Monster
07. Sleaze Freak
10. Just Like Me

Finnish black metallers ARTHEMESIA have issued the following update:
"We decided to bury whole 'ShamaNatahS (Teonanacatl)' and concentrate on new material. All those songs were so old that they didn't really express the current sound of ARTHEMESIA. Our 'new' sound is more epic and transcendental and really entraps the magickal mood we've been looking for over these 12 years; quite primitive, naturalistic and organic. We got a new guitarist as well: S.M. NekroC, whom some of you might know from DE LIRIUM'S ORDER. An awesome guitarist! Anyway, you can listen to some of those 'ShamaNatahS' tracks in our MySpace site."
Featuring several members from the Finnish extreme metal scene, ARTHEMESIA formed in 1994, working their way up the ladder via a couple of demos before their 2001 debut release, "Devs Iratvs".

Pain Awaiting announce the following update on their myspace page:
"After what seemed like an endless search for a suitable vocalist, we have finally found someone worthy enough to take up the job. As for who he is, we cannot divulge that information yet, but if you catch us out at a show, then we'll gladly introduce him to you.
The new guy is a perfect addition to the band, and we cannot wait to take on the world again. We'll be shooting for a first show back on the scene in June."
A three-and-a-half-minute video clip (set to the music of "New Found Land") containing footage shot on LEAVES' EYES' current European tour with KAMELOT has been posted online at this location (Windows Media).
Commented male vocalist Alexander Krull: "We had a lot of fun with KAMELOT and FAIRYLAND. Many magic moments we will keep forever in our mind. The European fans deserve our biggest THANK YOU! You made this tour such a fantastic happening! We are really looking forward to the upcoming concerts in Germany, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and the Baltic States. We will visit some places where we have never played before with LEAVES' EYES, we are really excited about that.
"It was the right decision to continue touring for our fans this year!" Krull added. "We will start to work on our new record in the summertime before we play in the United States and Canada again. We will take our time to record a killer album for our fans! The release of the new CD is planned for 2008. Before the new record will come out the DVD shall be released."
