You could spot someone that was going to the Corrosion of Conformity show a mile away in the French Quarter as they walked, sometimes stumbled, around in the hot afternoon sun of St. Patrick’s Day; black, worn band shirt, a few drinks under the belt, and a happy smile. Even in their stupor, they hovered around One Eyed Jacks just waiting for those doors to open so they could finally see their friends. Although many people coming go to numerous concerts a month, a good bit came just to see COC, the band that they used to go see in the small, dank clubs of New Orleans when they were much younger. It was a reunion for them. More...

Each week we track down musicians from every genre of metal to get their most memorable mosh pit stories. For this week's look at the pit, guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö of Kreator and progressive death metal act Barren Earth shares the following story of a (brief) "romantic" entanglement:
Through the years I´ve seen lots of odd things in the pit. Usually unintentional. But it was only very recently during a Kreator show in Oslo I spotted an extremely intoxicated young couple having sex against the crowd barrier. Most of their clothes were on but the poor girl got seriously rammed to the straight-forward rhythm of the song "Pleasure to Kill." This was merely the shortened version of the song but nevertheless the guy finished before the tune was over. I had serious difficulties beginning the next song because I had to laugh so much. It was a Saturday night in Norway and everyone in the audience was so drunk that hardly anyone even noticed the happy and "romantic" incident in the pit. I bet it happens all the time.
In related band news, Kreator will be releasing the new album "Phantom Antichrist" on June 1st, 2012 (Europe) and June 5th, 2012 (North America), while Barren Earth recently dropped sophomore full-length "The Devil's Resolve" (reviewed here).
Metalunderground.com recently had the pleasure of premiering three songs online from the new Barren Earth album, and the band also dropped a music video for "The Rains Begin," which can be viewed here.
Check back in again next Tuesday to find more pit stories from metal fans and band members.
Sabaton, who recently announced the mutual split of four band members and announcing the new lineup has posted up the tour trailer for the "Swedish Empire" tour for both North American and European dates. While no support act was announced for the North American tour, the European leg will have support from Swiss folk metal band Eluveitie and Hungarian power metal band Wisdom.
All confirmed dates are contained in the following video, which doubles as the stream of the first single and Swedish version of the title track from the forthcoming "Carolus Rex" LP (due out this May):
Sweden's Portrait has issued the following announcement about upcoming festival appearances and working on a new album:
"Some time has passed since we lastly issued a news update here on the internet. There have been speculations regarding the current state of the line-up, not least the vocalist position. About this we can say, don't believe everything you see.
"As you might have noticed, a handful of European festivals are confirmed for this spring and summer, among them Keep It True, Rock Hard, Headbangers Open Air and Metal Inferno in Germany, Hammer Open Air in Finland and Pounding Metal in Madrid. Looking forward to see you all on these events.
"Meanwhile, off stage, and as far away as possible from everything of this world, the creation of the follow-up to 2011's acclaimed 'Crimen Laesae Majestatis Divinae' opus is blossoming. The title of the third Portrait album will be 'CROSSROADS.'"
Nightrage has checked in with the following announcement about recruiting Christopher Jon as a session guitarist for the band's upcoming live shows:
"Christopher Jon from White Wizzard and Forty Winters will help us on the upcoming Greek and Demon Hunter tour filling in as a session guitarist, due to Olof scheduling conflicts, we are happy to have such a cool guitarist and cool guy on our shows playing with us."
Christopher added, "I'm stoked beyond words to be playing guitar with my close friends in Nightrage on these upcoming dates. Became good friends with the dudes on the Frets Of Fury tour back in October.
"I've been following the band since its inception back in the early 2000's. I'm honored to be able to contribute to a band that's been home to melodic death metal greats like Tomas Lindberg from At The Gates, Gus G from Ozzy Osbourne, and Marios Iliopoulos as well."
A teaser trailer for the upcoming Greek tour dates can be found at this location.

Cradle Of Filth's front man Dani Filth has issued the following update on his blog about working on a new full-length album and the upcoming release of the "Midnight in the Labyrinth" orchestral album:
"Dear voracious night-gaunts,
"Salutations from the void as we prepare for the sweltering morbidity of Summer and the rigorous studio session that awaits the band as we prepare to begin recording our new, as yet untitled, tenth studio album (though there are numerous titles floating about the ether, most of them ludicrous, some a little more befitting…).
"April 21st is the day that our much-anticipated 'Midnight In The Labyrinth' orchestral album is to be released, on what is to be known as 'Record Store Day' (which is slightly ironic I know, seeing as no-one buys records these days, let alone ventures, God forbid, into a real life music store!) and it is sure not to disappoint. Unless of course you're NOT expecting a colossal slab of orchestral music in the vein of the great horror movie composers set to an appetite-whetting smorgasbord of Cradle's earlier classics.
"The album itself has turned out really well, with the mix by 'Dusk.. And Her Embrace's' Kit Woolven bringing a swathe of luxuriousness to the proceedings. Plus we managed to entice Sarah Jezebel Deva back to add her definitive touch to the female narrative and lead vocal parts (partly in exchange for me singing on a track on her new EP, and partly in exchange for thirteen pence in old money and half a mouldy Snickers bar). The inaugural Decibel Magazine tour kicks off in a mere eight days in Columbus, OH. It wasn't too late, however, for the venue owners to prohibit the bands from appearing at The Brewmaster's Gate. Behemoth, Watain, The Devil's Blood, and In Solitude are being forbidden from playing at the venue because of religious conflicts with the venue owners. These bands are no strangers to this type of treatment, and a new venue has already been confirmed. The Columbus, OH show will now be at Al Rosa. Tickets for this show are still available and can be purchased here.
Behemoth's front man, Nergal, comments further: "Wow, big motherfuckin' WOW! We are facing a legendary moment: Amerika, the land of the free, is banning Behemoth coz of religious beliefs. The madness starts in Ohio, but of korz we are playing anyway. Nothing can stop us now. God, please save me from this freedom…"

"I think we've found our sound on this album," comments BLU guitarist Greg Fender. "The process this time around has been very smooth and natural, with everything sort of falling into place with very little effort. We poured a lot of the frustration from past growing pains and long touring into the new material and the result has been something darker, more raw, and most importantly more for ourselves than anyone else."
This album comes on the heels of 2010's "Only The Dead To Witness" (Static Age Records). A video for the song "To The Last Man" was also produced, and can be viewed here. Due to an injury to one of the band members, Virginia doom rockers King Giant have been unable to tour in support of their sophomore LP "Dismal Hollow" this year.
While regretfully the band cannot take the new album's anthems to the highways of America at the present time, in lieu of touring, King Giant has opted to begin constructing new material for an upcoming third full-length release. Talks have also started between the band and Kevin Barker, who produced and directed several of the group's previous videos, to begin work on another upcoming visual narrative based on an anthem from "Dismal Hollow." Further details will be unveiled in the weeks ahead.
King Giant's thunderous Dismal Hollow can still be streamed in its entirety via The Obelisk.

Finnish melodic death metal band Omnium Gatherum announced that the band has parted ways with bassist Toni Mäki, who played with the band over the past three years, including on the band's latest LP "New World Shadows" (2011). The announcement on the band's Facebook reads:
OG have decided to go separate ways with our bass player of the last three years, Toni Mäki. The decision was made already some time ago after our latest European tour 'Neckbreakers Ball' and it wasn't an easy one.
Some of you might have noticed that the old OG Redshifter bass master Eerik Purdon has been already playing a few gigs with us during the past months. Eerik is filling the now vacant low-frequency spot and is helping us out on the upcoming gigs, rehearsals and recordings - thanks dude!
The real thing is that the bass player spot is now vacant. So, if you have what it takes, feel free to contact us (email@example.com) and manifest that you're the best man for the OG low-frequency department and the meanest dude for the meanest machine! …And we'll see where it goes.
Btw. the new album stuff is almost composed and ready, so soon it's studiotime again!

Irish thrash metal outfit Gama Bomb has announced that they have parted company with guitar player Luke Graham after ten years with the band. A statement from Graham reads as follows:
"After ten years with Gama Bomb I've decided to call it a day. Many thanks to my best mates in the band for all the good times and mad shit we got up to round the world. Who would’ve thought ‘Project I Love NUCLEAR ASSAULT’ would have taken us so far? Raised pints and positive gestures to all the great folk I've gotten to work with, the good friends I've made and of course I have to thank the fans for making it all possible, mad bastards every last one. Up the hoods."
A band update reads: "Our good pal John Roche, who has helped us out as a live guitarist over the last year, is going to step in as the band's new rhythm man. We're sure you'll help us welcome him, and to pay tribute to the brilliantness of Luke as a member of the band. This has been a very tough decision for the whole band, but we're now ready to begin making our fourth album with John on board, Luke's blessings and the same formula for thrash we've always had."
