A Life Once Lost recently parted ways (amicably) with bassist Nick Frasca for undisclosed reasons. To replace him, the group has recruited Alin Ashraf, formerly of The June Spirit. According to ALOL, "Yes, he was in a pop-punk band. No, we aren't going to write pop-punk songs." Meanwhile, the band has begun writing material for their next full-length, which they plan to record this winter with Eric Rachel at Trax East studios. In the interim, the ALOL will be touring consistently. Finally, look for the re-release of the band's debut full-length, "Open Your Mouth For The Speechless...," to hit stores this summer via Robotic Empire.
On April 1, Beatallica (who play Beatles tunes done Metallca style) released their much anticipated second EP for download as mp3s on their newly redesigned web site.
The new EP consists of 8 new songs:
- Blackened the USSR
- And I'm Evil
- Got To Get You Trapped Under Ice
- Leper Madonna
- Hey Dude
- I Want To Choke Your Band
- We Can Hit the Lightz
I've actually held off posting this news because the servers are slammed, making downloading the songs near impossible unless you use Bit Torrent. As such, they've had to take their first EP down temporarily as well. Head over to their site to download the new stuff.
Reunited San Francisco Bay Area metallers DEATH ANGEL are currently working on a video for their new single, "Thicker Than Blood". "The shoot went AWESOME! It's going to be a killer video!" the band write.
"Thicker Than Blood" comes off DEATH ANGEL's much-anticipated comeback album, "The Art of Dying", due in the U.S. on May 4 through Nuclear Blast Records for their much-anticipated comeback album, "The Art of Dying". The CD will arrive in Europe and South America one week earlier (April 27).
The group's first CD since 1990's "Act III", "The Art of Dying" was recorded at SF Soundworks studios in San Francisco, California with producer Brian Joseph Dobbs (VOIVOD, MANMADEGOD).
On Friday April 2, I had the chance to interview Herman Li online from the power metal band Dragonforce. Herman and I had a great deal of fun doing it, as you can probably tell from the interview. The interview was a true honor. At first I was kind of nervous, though I couldn't show it, I was. In the end that nervousness didn't last very long. Herman quickly was able to make me laugh and enjoy myself. I actually realized some basic things about life though this interview, it was definately a life changing experience for me (ok maybe not, but it did rule). He did, though, give me different answers than I was expecting, and he always added a bit of humor to his responses. I suggest that everyone reading this should at least check it out. More...

Hey, Metalunderground.com got a mention on MTV.com for the April fools stories posted the other day!
The Metal Underground (www.metalunderground.com) truly got into the fraudulent spirit with over a dozen phony headlines and message-board threads. These included ones suggesting that Slayer had broken up, with Kerry King leaving to write songs with Avril Lavigne and the rest of the band starting a side project with Creed's Mark Tremonti; Fred Durst, following his request that his band be known as limpbizkit, had legally changed his name to fredurst; Metallica and Megadeth had repaired their relationship and would tour together next year; and details about a "Summer Sanitation" tour featuring such bands as Def Tone Loc and PullMyFinger 11.
So does this mean we've sold out now that MTV has mentioned us? Oh the jokes abound, but alas April 1st is past... But I still think that's hella cool to get mentioned like that.
