Norwegian metal act Emancer made waves throughout the metal scene with the highly praised "Twilight and Randomness" album (reviewed here) back in 2008, which mixed in avant-garde elements to the traditional black metal style. While gearing up to record a new full-length album, Emancer put a black metal spin on the Type O Negative track "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend" for Metalunderground.com's recently released "All For None, None For All: A Tribute To Peter Steele."
Vocalist Gorbag and guitarist Mithrin discussed their cover song with Metalunderground to explain the band's recording process, and dived into other topics such Emancer's European tour last fall and the upcoming sixth full-length album.
Spanish female-fronted metal act In.Verno has posted a music video online for the song "Living In Vain," which is off the band's album "Realscapes" (reviewed here). You can check out the clip below.
In.Verno also recently contributed a cover of the Type O Negative song "Everything Dies" for Metalunderground.com's Peter Steele tribute album. Additional details are available here.
Barn Burner has now finished the band's second record and follow-up to "Bangers." The debut single from the album, "Keg Stand and Deliver," can be heard now at this location.
The new album "Bangers II: Scum of the Earth," saw Barn Burner teaming up with producer/engineer Adrian Popovich once again (Tricky Woo, Priestess, Sam Roberts, The Dears, and Sebastian Grainger).
Vocalist/guitarist Kevin Keegan tells us, "We will be hitting the road with 3 inches of Blood and Cancer Bats in May in Canada so look forward to us bothering you for a place to stay on our way across Canada with a couple of the most killer bands this country has to offer. Let's party!"
Former Emperor vocalist/guitarist Ihsahn will make his first American solo appearance at ProgPower USA, scheduled for September 14th - 17th at Center Stage in Atlanta. Confirmed by festival organizer Glenn Harveston, Ihsahn replaces Arcturus on the Friday evening lineup of the popular music festival.
Ihsahn comments, "I am very excited to get the opportunity to play at ProgPower. My backing band, Leprous, played the festival last year and had a fantastic time. Given the nature of my solo-material, I believe this festival will be a great place to present it live. I have already performed at several festivals/shows in Europe in 2009/2010 and will do a few more this year.”
IHSAHN’s performance is expected to include selections from all three solo albums – "The Adversary" (2006), "Angl" (2008) and his most recent, "After" (2010). You can also check out Metalunderground.com's look into three of Ihsahn's side projects in a recent entry of our Unearthing the Metal Underground column at this location.
Shining has checked in with the following brief update about filming a new music video to be released in May:
"Filming for the new Shining video has been completed, and the video, which uses a track from the new album, will make its debut on the 25th May.
"The video might not be the most extreme thing you will ever see, but it will definitely be one of the most uncomfortable."
Shining also recently posted a new song online titled "Förtvivlan, Min Arvedel," which can be heard at this location.
One of the longest-running and intense bands out there, Anaal Nathrakh from the U.K. has released another little demon to the world (reviewed here). The two-piece, consisting of Irrumator and V.I.T.R.I.O.L., has remained somewhat mysterious throughout the years; playing only a few live shows, some festivals, and leaving it up the listener to decipher the lyrics. I had the opportunity to talk at length with vocalist V.I.T.R.I.O.L. about the new album "Passion," collaborators, and the theory of music in general. More...
European thrash act Bulldozer was formed in 1980 by bassist Dario Carria and guitarist Andy Panigada. After having finalized the line-up with Alberto "AC Wild" Contini taking over bass and vocal duties and Don Andras playing drums, Bulldozer recorded the "Fallen Angel" demo. This recording immediately caught the attention of Roadrunner Records, who went on to release the band's debut album "The Day Of Wrath" and the follow-up "The Final Separation." In the following years Bulldozer released two additional studio albums, "IX" (1987) and "Neurodeliri" (1988), followed by the release of a live album, "Alive... In Poland" (1990) which was the last Bulldozer effort for many years to come. The long awaited comeback album "Unexpected Fate" dropped in 2009, after signing a worldwide recording deal with Scarlet Records.
June 14th, 2011 will now see Scarlet Records releasing a special edition of the album including 4 bonus Bulldozer classics ("Minkions," "Micro V.I.P.," "Willfull Death" and the "IX/Desert" medley) recorded live at the Rock Hard Festival 2010 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories from metal shows. This week Rafa Martinez of Black Cobra shares a story from their Japanese tour a couple years ago and has some video evidence to go along with it:
It was September of 2007 and it was Black Cobra's first tour in Japan. We had just released our second album as a split with Eternal Elysium and we were touring with them in support of the release. It was the third day of the tour and the crowds had been great but nothing like we were about to see.
That day we played in the city of Kawasaki which lies in the outskirts of Tokyo. The crowd was going absolutely bananas. There was a kid in the front row that looked like he was having a seizure. We were playing the last song of the set and it was almost the end of the song when all of a sudden someone from the crowd climbed through the barricade onto one of the PA speakers and stage dove only to find that no one in the crowd noticed his audacious acrobatics... Everyone was too busy pitting so no one caught him and the dude flew head first right through the eye of the slam pit on to the dance floor. Splat!
Check out a video of the events below:
Black Cobra will record a new album in 2011; stay tuned for more info. In the meantime, you can check out some of their past music on the band's MySpace player.
Check back next Tuesday as we share more Pit Stories.

Milwaukee, WI’s Morta Skuld formed in 1990, releasing the first demo tape "Gory Departure" shortly thereafter. The band’s second 3-song demo "Prolong The Agony" came soon afterword and featured Viogression drummer Jef Jaeger. Both demos have been remastered for the "Through The Eyes Of Death: The Early Demos" collection by Chris Wisco at Belle City Sound.

That's right, together with our friend and favorite producer Ali Dietz we completed the TOP SECRET mission we told you about... but before you guys get too excited: it's got nothing to do with a new Neaera full length (we just gave you 'Forging The Eclipse,' goddammit, hahahaha...).
"BUT: the result of this weekend's recording session will most likely be published this summer, so stay tuned over the next months for more news on what and how bad we managed to fuck up this time, har har... Metaaaaaaaal!!!"

Nothing spices up a shitty, rainy afternoon like a good, old-fashioned metal show. And it’s even better when said daytime metal show includes some bonafide rock stars kicking complete ass in an intimate venue.
That’s just what unfolded in the dank, dark confines of Church in the shadows of Boston’s Fenway Park this past Saturday when Brian Fair of Shadows Fall and Mike D’Antonio of Killswitch Engage shattered the day’s doldrums with an hour of thrashy punk with their new side project Death Ray Vision.
The pair of old friends, joined by KsE/Seemless guitarist Pete Cortese, Cannae drummer Colin Conway and newcomer Zack Wells also on guitar, unveiled the new band a couple weeks ago at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival in Worcester, Mass.
But this was their first show in Boston and it was a throwback to the all-ages union hall shows where the band members started out. They chose heavily from their newly-released EP “Get Lost or Get Dead,” ripping through “Shatter Frames,” “Get Lost” and the punishing hardcore romp, “Not for Glory.” More...

August Burns Red also previously commented on the album:
"Putting out a fourth record is a little scary because we obviously have our sound figured out at this point, but we don’t want to put out a record that just sounds like a redux of our previous albums. Our tastes are always evolving as musicians and we’ve been motivated to progress as a band and push ABR in different directions, while maintaining the characteristics that made us the band we are in the first place."

Founding Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman stepped onstage with his band at this past Saturday's Big 4 concert in Indio, CA, marking the first time he has played with Slayer since last October. In January, Hanneman contracted necrotizing fasciitis, likely caused by a spider bite, and has been undergoing surgeries, skin grafts and intense rehab since. Hanneman surprised the crowd of 50,000 when he walked out onto the stage, unannounced, and played the two-song encore, "South of Heaven" and "Angel of Death."
Backstage in Slayer's dressing room afterwards, Hanneman relaxed on a couch and said, "I'm the happiest man in the world."
Gary Holt, guitarist for Exodus, has been the primary guest guitarist with Slayer since the band started its 2011 touring schedule in February, and will continue in that capacity until Hanneman has completely recovered.

Sweden's Anachronaeon has issued the following update about posting an Iron Maiden cover song online:

We are releasing a cover song as a free download... Iron Maiden's 'Wasting Love' (you can also hear it here at MySpace).
"In our version it is not a ballad anymore, and we interpreted it freely, so don't expect a version true to the original. You can download the zip-bundle (includes the song in .mp3 and .wav format, a little cover, and some release notes for the song) here. You can view a crappy video that we made for it below.
