OBITUARY vocalist John Tardy has issued the following road update from South America:
"Just when I say Santiago could have been the best show of the tour, our fans in Venezuela really show up for us and it was just an amazing show. This was our first time to Venezuela and I have no idea why we waited so long to get there. What a show. We actually played inside a bull-fighting ring. Sick! The fans were absolutely crazy!
Once again no sleep last night. We left the show around 1:00 am and had a 3 hour drive back to the airport. Our flights to Bogata left at 6:00 am but, we made it here and are ready for a good show tonight. We have never been to Columbia either, so I am really looking forward to tonight's show. Bogata, we will see you tonight!!! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!
Tomorrow is our last show and it is in Ecuador. You may have read in the news about a club there that caught on fire and killed at least 14 people. We never like hearing anything like that and our thoughts are with those families. Because of this our show has been moved, but we are still playing. Check the tour schedule!!!"
Edguy are currently preparing to hit the studio to work on the successor of their recent album Rocket Ride.
Frontman Tobias Sammet says: "People think that we are quite fast but that's not the truth. I completed the Avantasia album last autumn, the Avantasia song-writing itself was completed even way back in 2006. All the new ideas I've had since then could be taken for Edguy. In fact, this is a long time to refresh your creativity and gather new stuff. The material sounds very fresh, it embraces all the different trademarks of Edguy, I think it is a logical continuation of Rocket Ride and Hellfire Club. Maybe it doesn't come across as goofy as Rocket Ride, but I am sure if we have fun in the studio we'll have enough possibilities to ruin the day for notoriously bitter people, haha. Yet it's more bombastic and heavier, not too fast cause I really don't like pure speed metal that much anymore. I like 'Lavatory Love Machine', 'The Piper Never Dies', 'Mandrake' and 'Sacrifice'. There's three fast tracks, but they are all good, not 'just fast'! We'll enter the studio next week and work whenever producer Sascha Paeth and me come back from the Avantasia weekends."
Candlelight Records confirms June 10 as the US release date for "Urban Cancer," the debut album from Canada’s NEFASTUS DIES. Featuring former Ion Dissonance vocalist Ill-Fate, the album was produced by Yannick St-Amand (Despised Icon).
The track listing for Urban Cancer includes: "Fragments of Poisoned Components," "Primal Chaos Layers," "Hate Vector," "The Irony of Anti-establishment," "Ideologies," "None of the Above," "Spawns of Illegitemacy," and "Cost-effective Mergers."
The band also recently confirmed performances with Anaal Nathrakh on the following dates:
May 17 – The Kathedral, Toronto ON
May 18 – Gig Theater, Kitchener ON
May 20 – Café Dekcuf, Ottawa ON
May 22 – Plaza Theater, Montreal QC
Candlelight Records has confirmed May 27 as the American release date for "angL", the second solo album from former Emperor vocalist/guitarist Ihsahn. The album features nine new songs and will have guest performances by drummer Asgeir Mickelson (Borknagar), bassist Lars Koppang Norberg (Spiral Architect) and Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth).
Recorded and mixed by Ihsahn at Symphonique Studios in Notodden, Norway (the studio owned by Ihsahn and partner Heidi Tveitan), additional work was completed by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Amon Amarth) at Fascination Street Studios and Borge Finnstad (Mayhem, Borknagar) at Toproom Studios. Commenting about the record’s musical collaborations, "Asgeir did such a great job on my last album, that while in preproduction for angL I programmed a much more generic drum track to leave more creative license for him. It was on Asgeir’s recommendation that Lars contribute to the album. They both recorded at Asgeir’s studio (Multimono Studios) and it came together nicely."
Commenting about working with Mikael Akerfeldt, "Mikael and I go back as friends since the early nineties. We met up when Emperor headlined Wacken in 2006 and had a great time watching bands together. We talked then about doing something together at some point and in spite of busy schedules on both sides this luckily came to happen. Rough mixes of "Unhealer" with lyrics were sent to Mikael with the idea for both clean and growl vocals. He worked on it during his off-time recording the new Opeth album. I could not be any happier with the results."
Writing for angL began early in 2007 and picked up momentum after the Emperor US performances early last summer. "I knew to a greater extent where I wanted to go with this album, though I feel all albums are a kind of struggle to overcome. Regardless of how many you make, it never gets any easier." An aggressive schedule to complete the album, in addition to recording projects for Hardingrock (in which Ihsahn also contributes) and Starofash (released February 26), Ihsahn completed album tracking in early December.
