NIN Set To Debut At #2 On Billboard Charts

Launch Radio Networks reports: NINE INCH NAILS could sell more than 200,000 copies of its new album, "Year Zero", in its first week of release, according to sales tracking by Hits Daily Double. The disc, which was released on Tuesday (April 17), could enter the Billboard album chart at No. 2 next week, with AVRIL LAVIGNE's new offering expected to debut in the top spot. The last NINE INCH NAILS effort, 2005's "With Teeth", did debut at No. 1 on the chart with first-week sales of 272,000 copies.

"Year Zero" is a concept album that takes place in the year 2022, with the U.S. taken over by a religious dictatorship as the world nears environmental and social collapse.

The CD has been the subject of one of the year's most talked-about marketing campaigns, involving intentionally leaked songs, cryptic voicemails and a maze of eerie web sites.

Meanwhile, a "secret meeting" of NINE INCH NAILS fans as part of the "Art Is Resistance" movement was directed by cellphone calls to an abandoned Los Angeles warehouse on Wednesday night (April 18), where they were treated to a surprise NINE INCH NAILS performance. The set, however, was stopped after six songs by heavily armed "SWAT-like" troops who raided the location in a "Year Zero"-inspired scenario, according to CrowdCtrl.com. Video of the event is available at OpenSourceResistance.net.

Avsky's Sign To Humanity's Plague Productions

Sweden's AVSKY will have their debut cd "Mass Destruction" released through Humanity's Plague Productions.

The release goes on: "Responses from black metal enthusiasts and media types so far agree that this is quality misanthropy. It is torturous and desperate black metal. You can actually feel yourself hopelessly gasping for air, feeling your breath being stolen from your carcass of flesh. 9 tracks of suicidal, anti-life black art that thrives on your slow suffering into oblivion, revealing to all what is bleak and loathsome to the world!"

System Of A Down Bassist's To Help Unsigned Bands

Launch Radio Networks reports: SYSTEM OF A DOWN bassist Shavo Odadjian is launching a new online music initiative called urSession.com. According to a press release, the site is an "innovative digital community and record label designed to give independent and unsigned acts a promotional platform to showcase their talent, receive community feedback, monetize their art and land a record deal." The site will go live on June 14 and will be the first online label to sign artists based on audio and/or video performances uploaded by the artists themselves and voted on by members of the urSession community.

Odadjian said in a statement, "urSession will help revolutionize an artistically stagnant music industry and impact significant change. This isn't about a couple of suits in their ivory tower force-feeding the population a steady diet of bland and blander music. It's about the power of community pushing the envelope to help drive a more evolved level of talent."

Odadjian is named as the co-founder and president of the site, while its CEO and other co-founder is Narb Avedissian.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN has been on hiatus since last summer. Odadjian has also directed videos and played with members of the WU-TANG CLAN during the break. Singer Serj Tankian has overseen his Serjical Strike label, while guitarist Daron Malakian has started a new band called SCARS ON BROADWAY and drummer John Dolmayan is launching an online comic book store called Torpedo Comics this November.
