Canadian progressive-metal newcomers, What's He Building In There? (WHBIT?), have announced their new members in the wake of the departure of both guitarists, Christopher Cookson and David Halk.
"Since the departure of the super-talented quasi-jedi Cookson and the mad scientist Halk, we have recruited our good friend, the unyielding Mason Tikl, who will be taking over guitar duties, and bass wizard Aiden Stevenson, who will be laying down the funk as our semi-permanent bassist," says drummer Liam Epps. "With Aiden taking over the low notes, it means that Hal will be taking a breather from the bass to persue his primary instrument, guitar, as well as taking on trumpet and percussion responsibilities, effectively making him our in house multi-instrumentalist."
The band will continue to tour in support of their self-titled debut album, which was released last year by Year of The Sun Records. The genre-bending eclectic sound of What's He Building In There? has drawn comparisons to Between The Burried and Me, Mike Patton and Tool.
"We've already begun writing new material and revamping the older tunes," continues Epps. "We'll be back out playing shows in no time, so put those cyanide pills down for now, sit back, relax, and we'll be caressing your ear drums again before you know it."
What's He Building In There? will hit the road this summer to tour Western Canada and will tour Eastern Canada in September. Dates will be announced shortly. More...
Crown the Lost has announced their new bassist, Shaun Gunter, who replaces recently departed Ryan Eicheldinger. Here what the band had to say about Gunter's addition to the band:
"It is with great pleasure that we announce the addition of bassist Shaun Gunter to the CTL fold. Commonly referred to as "Shaun Von Grimm," "Von Grimes," "Grimes" or "Grimey," Shaun blew us away with his finger-styled, fretboard mastery, nailing his three tryout songs: "Swear to the Peerless," "No Reprieve" and "Bound to Wrath" with a sense of precision not yet heard in our Jager-adorned practice room. While other bass players were considered, Shaun was the hands-down choice to fill the vacant slot and we are more than thankful he accepted without hesitation.
"Mr. Gunter has relocated from Dayton, Ohio (no, he's not a Browns fan…) and was brought to our attention by Jason Myers of the mighty Icarus Witch. A player in the vein of Alex Webster and Robert Trujillo, Shaun has been playing bass for roughly four years and has recently cut his teeth in Reaper, an old-school thrash band out of Dayton. Shaun's low-end tools of the trade and easy-going personality has galvanized the band and adds a new dimension to our songs, both new and old that we're eager to exploit in the live arena."
Crown The Lost is currently recording their sophomore record, "Blind Faith Loyalty."

According to Gary Graff from Billboard.com, some new STONE TEMPLE PILOTS music may be in the offing, but it's not likely to surface until after the reunited rockers finish touring later this year.
"I think new material will come probably after this tour," bassist Robert DeLeo tells Billboard.com. "I think the whole thing now is kind of getting back and re-acclimating ourselves to the songs that we know. I think that's gonna make for a better atmosphere and better performances ... instead of doing a new record.
"Then, after this tour finishes, I think we're gonna be in a position where we've gotten to know each other again, and I think it's gonna be time to hit the studio."
DeLeo says he and his brother, STP guitarist Dean DeLeo are "always, always, always" working on new songs and often think of whether they'd be material suited to STP. "There's always stuff brewing," he notes.

Finnish metal band, Tacere, issue the following announcement regarding the departure of vocalist Helena Haaparanta on their MySpace page:
"Helena Haaparanta is no longer a member of Tacere. She was an excellent vocalist and performer so this is of course very unfortunate. But the fact is that the ways of Tacere and Helena departed only because of personal reasons and this has nothing to do with the band or its music, or Helena's skills. As far as we know Helena always loved Tacere's music and this was a very tough decision for her - one that just had to be done. We wish her all the best with her future musical endeavors."
"Because of Helena's departure TACERE is now looking for a new female singer to fill the position left open by Helena. We are looking for a FEMALE singer who has an excellent voice and technique, experience in performing, rock attitude, a suitable appearance, willingness to commit to the project as well as a desire for success. The application process is open for anyone (and singers of every style are welcome to apply). By sending e-mail to taceresinger(at)gmail.com you will receive more information about how to apply for the position." More...

Last year the band signed a deal with Corporate Punishment Records but however split with the label before an album could be released, following with a four song EP entitled "Out The Shallow End". One of these songs "Right On Time", along with the previously unreleased "Welt" was featured on last years wrestling video game, "WWE Smackdown VS Raw 2008".
AC/DC has finished recording its new album and is currently mixing the effort for a late 2008 release, the group's vocalist Brian Johnson revealed this morning (Tuesday, April 22) during an interview with Washigton D.C.'s DC 101 radio station. Johnson has apparently left the studio in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada where AC/DC guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young have remained with producers Mike Fraser and Brendan O'Brien in order to complete work on the CD. Brian also stated that the band will next work on getting the artwork done and take care of the promotional activities in connection with the release, to be followed by a tour.
Rumours are circulating that the following AC/DC tour will be their last but no word light has been shed on the situation yet.
EDENBRIDGE singer Sabine Edelsbacher has issued the following update:
"It is with great pleasure to speak with you all directly. I wanna say thank you to all you lovely people, who sent me nice e-mails and are in contact with me. To all those who I didn´t responded to: Please forgive me, every mail means a lot to me and I do my very best to answer them all.
As you might know, we are currently on European tour with RAGE. Tonight we play in Pratteln (Switzerland) and we are looking forward for the show. The tour is running fine so far, although the fan base of Rage is not very similar to our fan base. So it´s very nice to meet all our fans who are showing up at our concerts. You can always meet us at the merchandise desk after our show where we sign and have contact to our fans.
We have a lot of fun on stage, but also backstage. Our new drummer Max Pointner and guitarist Dominik Sebastian are meanwhile totally integrated in the band and the nights in the tour bus are getting longer and longer.
Since one week we have a bit more space, cause the Russian band FreaKozaks had to leave the tour because they got no more visa for the rest of the tour. Unfortunately we were not able to sell the new album at our concerts, cause the release date is the 25th of April (so next Friday). But from today on we will sell our new album MyEarthDream. We also have some very nice t-shirts and long-sleeves with the new cover design and as we saw the fans received them very well.
We still have ten shows on tour and two days after our home headliner show in Linz. On May 24 we will play the Rockmania Festival in Dettelbach near Würzburg (Germany). I am looking forward to meet a lot of you there.
Here is a diashow, which was designed by our webmaster Reinhard Schmid. Jonathan Jessup, a very nice fan from the States made wonderful photos of nature and gave us the rights to use them for the diashow. They touched me deeply at first sight. They perfectly fit to our song 'Paramount'. Have a look at it in full screen and if you like it, then please send the link to your friends."
MAYHEM guitarist/songwriter Blasphemer (aka Rune Eriksen) has decided to leave the band. His statement reads as follows:
"It is with these written words that I hereby retract myself from my position as the guitar player of Mayhem.
The main reason behind this conclusion lies in the fact that I simply don't see any future for me in the band anymore, at least not a future I'd like to participate in over the coming years. I've been playing my part in the band now for more than 13 years already, having composed, produced and released several albums with great vision, dedication and craftsmanship, to arrive at this crossroad of opposites. Sooner or later, all things comes to an end, and in my case, this circle is complete.
For some of you this might not come as the biggest surprise, as I've clearly stated in several interviews that I was not sure what the next step would be. These "hints" were partly rooted in the fact that our latest album fulfilled all of the expectations, visions and aspects of negativity that I felt I wanted to express with this band, and also, of similar importance, that I felt tired of both the touring aspects, amidst its turbulence and personal differences, and also my role in the band.
It has been a dark, devoted and spellbinding journey, and as some beings and entities develop, others remain the same. I've developed my essence. No questions. However, the legacy of MAYHEM will / must always remain what it always has been, and I wish to thank all parts involved and to wish them all the best for the future. I also would like to thank my followers over the years, from "Wolf's Lair..." to "Ordo...", my vision has been clear. I'm also sure the band will continue with a respectful formation, and that an eventual album will be placed "up there", where it (should) belong.
I have now personally chosen to focus on other paths in terms of creativity and vision. My "child of heart" AVA INFERI has already a busy schedule for the future and our third album is being crafted as we speak. I will also re-surface with new will and blood in a future extreme project. You have not heard the last of me, on the contrary. It's all about to begin.
Note that the few already scheduled shows will go on as planned WITH me."
Kip Winger posted his comments about the songs included on his forthcoming studio album "From the Moon to the Sun," due out later this year on Frontiers Records. Here are his insights:
Every Story Told:
This song was mostly recorded in Istanbul at Cenk Eroglu's studio. I got the idea from a yoga instructor of mine who once made the comment "Even though you cant do everything, you can be everything".
This song was originally "Killing Way" as you can hear on the Xcarnation Cd "Grounded". We changed it early on but kept the other version intact. Also mostly recorded in Istanbul. It's about the Hypocrisy I see all around me. More and more there seems to be less and less to believe in. So much deception in the world but still holding on. More...
The recording and mixing process of the forthcoming CROWN OF THORNS studio album "Faith" is well underway under the direction of Jean Beauvoir with help from the legendary Bob Clearmountain. The new tracks written for the album include (in no particular order): Faith; All In My Head; The One; Nobody; Stay With Me; Living in the Shadows; All Or Nothing; Rock Ready; Believe Me; Nobody; Home Again. The sound of the album goes straight back to the essential melodic Hard Rock sound of the first three studio albums.
Frontiers Records has plans to release the album in August or September 2008.
Montreal based death metal quartet Synastry have announced headlining tour dates in support of their upcoming debut album, "Blind Eyes Bleed." The band will be playing a string of dates in Ontario, before their CD Release party on May 17th, 2008. A summer tour across Canada is being planned and will be announced shortly.
"We are thrilled to be on the road again in support of 'Blind Eyes Bleed.' Synastry is looking forward to meeting up with old friends and new faces throughout the coming tours," says frontman Jimmy Anastasopoulos. "Each night will be a party and each show will be crushing. Make sure you're there."
Synastry's "Blind Eyes Bleed" will be released on May 20th, 2008 through Year of the Sun Records. The album was produced and engineered by Slaves on Dope guitarist Kevin Jardine and features guest appearances by The Agonist's frontwoman Alissa White Gluz and former Arch Enemy founding vocalist Johan Liiva.
Synastry's rise through the death metal scene is no doubt in part to their non-stop work ethic. The group's explosive live show has won over fans of Rotting Christ, Forever In Terror, and 3 Mile Scream, while their impressive online networking skills made them the #1 ranked unsigned band on MySpace's Death Metal category before landing a deal with Year of the Sun.
Songs from Synastry's "Blind Eyes Bleed" are currently available at the band's MySpace page.
Here are SYNASTRY's headlining tour dates so far: More...
ENSIFERUM bassist Sami Hinkka has checked in with this latest road report from the band's current spot on the Paganfest tour across Europe:
April 19, 2008 - Germany, München, Backstage
"Pfff...another gig with fever, this really starts to piss me off!! During the first song I thought I'm gonna die. Well, I survived.
Another sold out gig and another great audience (I notice that I start to repeat myself...). I try to kick others to write here too because I haven't done anything worth mention today (Finnish comedy series, some Monty Pythons and lot of sleep).
There is no döner place near here but we got some late night snack from Burger King!!! Oh yes, you might not know but there isn't any Burger Kings in Finland, so that's also something we HAVE to do every time when it's possible!
I'm off to shower (hopefully warm one this time...) and back to sleep. Rock 'n Roll glamour, eh?"
April 20, 2008 - Austria, Graz, Orpheum
"Oh Yeah! No more fever!
Very nice venue, good lights, good food, perfect!
Even though it was Sunday people were really in to music! One of the best gigs ever!!! Thank you one more time!! Markus had a surprise act (even for us!) while he dropped his kilt and posed with his ...well, let's say, not so beautiful underwear.
Now we are in a bit of hurry because we have to drive almost 900km to the next venue. So, see ya tomorrow!"
OBITUARY have posted South American road report on their official website:
"Things are going pretty good down here in South America. We are three shows in and the fans and the shows have been awesome! Thanks to all of you for the support. Tonight we are in Porto Alegre. This is the show that we missed last year with SADUS when we got fogged in at the airport so it is nice to be back and make it up tonight! We have a day off tomorrow and will make our way to the next show in Santiago, Chile. Hope to see you all there in a couple of days!!!!"
The UK's GOREROTTED have decided to take the big step of changing their name to THE ROTTED. According to a press release: "Having worked so hard on their new album Get Dead Or Die Trying, the lads felt that due to the huge progression they've made from previous releases musically and lyrically and after frequent line-up changes that this was the only right thing to do. "
Says frontman Ben McCrow: "The motives behind what we were doing with Gorerotted have changed over the years, and as a mark of respect for what we achieved, for previous band members and for fans, we didn't feel it was right to continue under our previous monicker. This album is gonna blow people away, I couldn't even classify it for you if I tried, all I can say is its heavy as fuck, catchy as hell and a piece of work we're all incredibly proud of. People have been affectionally referring to us as The Rotted for some time now, so it seemed like a decent change to us."
Raleigh-based DAYLIGHT DIES have issued the following update:
"Time is drawing near to depart for our North American tour with CANDLEMASS. We've made the transition from recording to rehearsing and are busy figuring out set lists and running order. We plan on playing a couple songs off of the new album Lost To The Living despite the fact it won't be released until shortly after the tour ends (June 24). While we most likely won't be able to sell the album during the tour, we've put together a limited single which will only be sold on the tour and directly through Candlelight, and on Daylightdies.com if copies remain after the tour.
The single is entitled 'A Portrait In White' and will contain the song of the same name from Lost To The Living, and two rare demos: 'Lies That Bind' (2004) and 'I Wait' (2001) as well as the 'Lies that Bind' video. The single will be strictly limited to 1,000 copies. Here (click photo) is the cover of the single.
We will also be selling tour shirts with this artwork on tour and may have some available on daylightdies.com fairly shortly as well.
Lost To The Living is completely finished and everyone couldn't be happier with the result. We hope to share a sample with you before too long. The running order of the album is as follows: 'Cathedral', 'A Portrait In White', 'A Subtle Violence', 'And A Slow Surrender', 'At A Loss', 'Woke Up Lost', 'Descending', 'Last Alone', 'The Morning Light'."
