The Fifth Alliance - a doom / sludge from Breda, The Netherlands - is now parting ways with drummer Ashwin, who issued this statement online:
“Alright folks, here’s quite an announcement: I’ve decided to call it quits as drummer of The Fifth Alliance. After 6-7 years of going full force with the band I have come to the conclusion that my interests have shifted. For the last year and a half up until now I have been experiencing a process where I started noticing that both the ambition and the joy I experienced before is slowly fading away.
"Rather than throwing in the towel immediately, I felt that the rational thing to do was to keep going and see if the feeling got stronger. Well, it did. And it’s time to come to grips with it. The Fifth Alliance is growing steadily as a band and they deserve a fully committed drummer; a role that I can’t live up to anymore. Therefore, I will be leaving the band after my last show on the 24th of June in my hometown; Roosendaal.
"All the other band members have shown a great amount of appreciation and understanding for my situation. They’ve been dealing with it like champs and with that mentality and a little bit of luck they managed to find a new drummer immediately. More...

In an endless quest to push and support current underground acts that perpetuate the odor of vintage death metal, on April 24th, Memento Mori is proud to present the debut full-length of Chile's Soulrot, titled "Nameless Hideous Manifestations." Today the full album has come online and can be heard below.
Hailing from the city of Valparaíso, Soulrot was formed by guitar player JL Olmos (Betrayed, ex-Micosis, ex-Gangrenous) circa 1993-1994 but was put to rest due to JL being involved in several other projects at the time.
It wasn't until 2013 that JL joined bass player/vocalist JH Wilschrey (Sadistic Murder, Acero Letal) and they both resuscitated Soulrot, manifesting their unquestionable inclination towards the death metal of yore.

Following his debut sci-fi novella “Empty” from 2016, heavy metal scribe Ty Arthur (Metalunderground.com's very own xFiruath) returns with new full-length horror novel “Light Dawning.” Pivoting away from the emptiness of space, the book dives headlong into the waters of fantasy, but with a seriously grimdark twist.
This next foray into the bleaker corners of human existence is officially slated for release on Friday, May 26th, 2017. Kindle digital pre-orders are now online here, with physical editions to follow shortly.
Like its predecessor, the creation of “Light Dawning” was driven forward by the power of music, with special thanks in particular due to U.K. avant-garde black metal group Code, Norwegian musical enigma Ihsahn, and Chilean prog rock group Bauda. To get an advance preview of the themes and tone of the novel, a music playlist matching several scenes can be heard via Spotify here or in the player below.
Once known as the City on the Hill and revered far and wide for its independence and boundless opportunity, Cestia has become home only to the damned. Surviving under the brutal occupation of a southern empire for three long years, the oppressed populace has lost hope of liberation, turning instead towards an increasingly desperate rebellion willing to commit any atrocity for a chance at freedom.
As total war approaches, four lost souls trapped behind Cestia's walls are on a collision course with fate, destined to either save the city or see it utterly destroyed while calling on forces beyond mankind's comprehension. For good or ill, the light of a new day is about to dawn. More...

Hide your kids, hide your wife, hide your booze! Ring the bells and for fucks’ sake don‘t get into their way: the outlaws are back in town! Dezperadoz – a name that spread through the saloons like wildfire, a name that has been passed on in reverential whisper. Everyone having had the (mis)fortune of running into them will be marked for life. With guitars armed, with a thirst unquenchable, the mission is crystal clear: get Heavy Metal into the Wild Wild West. Or was it the other way round? The band will issue the new album "Call Of The Wild" on May 19th via Drakkar Records. Check out the first single and music video for "Silver City Shuffle" in the player at the bottom.
It’s the return of the magnificent three. Five years after the last raid “Dead Man’s Hand," Dezperadoz got the horses saddled once again to conquer even the last corner of the Wild West. As was the case in the glorious past, the band relies on an explosive arsenal of meaty, straight-on heavy metal and the best of every single Western soundtrack ever written, thus forming an unholy and striking alliance. Forged under the desert moon, it’s as inseparable as beans and bacon, as Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone.
Leave it to philosophers to debate whether the hen or the egg were first. When dealing with band leader Alex Kraft, this question needs rephrasing: What was first, the Wild West or Heavy Metal? “Wild West of course,” he answers quick as a shot. Like each and everyone of us, he got infected by the infamous and thrilling genre of Italo western way too early. Having adopted a burning passion for the most dangerous music there is, Heavy Metal, similarly early, the smashing concept came about quite naturally. Dezperadoz taste like lead, whisky and the horse stables. Even more, and that’s essential for Kraft: they taste like freedom.
Already famous for their thorough and authentic conceptual albums in the past, Alex Kraft and his two relentless comrades up the ante once again. “Call of the Wild” is inspired by one of Wild West’s biggest heroes ever – Billy the Kid. Infamous gunslinger, notorious womaniser and hotshot for some, cold-blooded murderer for others. “He was a young, tough, bragging swashbuckle, but at the same time well educated, polite, diligent and intelligent,” Kraft muses. “A rebel and a thorn in every cattle dealer’s flesh.” A legend like that couldn’t go better with a bold troupe like Dezperadoz. For years, Kraft worked on this elaborate concept and tried to unmask the figure behind the myth. With “Call of the Wild”, he built him a loud, wild, unforgettable monument with which Billy himself, it is safe to assume, would be more than happy. More...

Internal Bleeding drummer Bill Tolley passed away yesterday from injuries sustained in a fall from a building in Queens, NY while battling a fire with the New York Fire Department.
The 14 year veteran firefighter was taking part in what was deemed a "routine call" to a 2 alarm apartment fire. He died after what the New York Daily news said was "a bizarre five-story plunge while working on the roof."
The band posted the news on its Facebook page, stating: "Our drummer, the heartbeat of the band, William Tolley died today. There are ZERO WORDS to describe the loss. He was a good, decent and honorable man who loved his friends, his family and the people he served. There will never be another like him. There are no words to describe the utter sadness and despair we feel right now. We love you Bill."
