Billboard.com reports: With a new management team in place, Guns N' Roses is "in negotiations" for the release of its decade-in-the-making album "Chinese Democracy," according to a post on the band's Web site.
The message did not elaborate on what the discussions concern, or offer an approximate release date for "Chinese Democracy," which was last on Interscope's release schedule in March 2007.
In other GNR news, guitarist Robin Finck has left the Axl Rose-led band to return to Nine Inch Nails, and will tour with the latter act this summer.
"Robin's plans caught everyone in Guns, as well as our fans, a bit off-guard," the band says. "Neither we nor management, etc., know any more in this regard and we prefer not to speculate or offer opinions at this time."
"When we begin to put tour plans together, we'll see where things are," the post continues. "Until then, Robin's touring with NIN and we're working with management on our game plans."
The following report is courtesy of Rolling Stone:
METALLICA didn’t perform an impromptu parking lot set as some had hoped they would Saturday during the first annual Record Store Day, yet cheers rang out, tears fell and metal reigned during an epic six-hour marathon of autograph-signing, chatting and pictures.
Ending a grubby, shivering, boozy three-day parking lot camp-out for 400 fans, Rasputin Music and DVDs in Mountain View, CA near San Jose opened its doors at 10:30 a.m. to give away hundreds of RSD commemorative posters, T-shirts, and CDs. Songs from Master Of Puppets, Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning played. Metallica’s founding members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and 2003 addition on bass Robert Trujillo arrived individually by black towncar at 2 p.m. to commune with the black-clad throng, assembled from as far away as Australia and Japan. The screaming, bird-flipping hordes chased each car into Rasputin’s loading area, and surrounded the strip-mall building, awaiting a chance to asked their idols about American tour dates (“September,” said Hetfield) and vocals on the new album (“I’m working on ‘em,” Hetfield promised). Others asked when they could hear the first new Metallica album in five years, produced by Rick Rubin (“This fall,” said Trujillo).

Black-sabbath.com webmaster Joe Seigler has issued the following update:
"When Black Box was released in 2004, one of the things not mentioned then was "what about remastering all the other Sabbath albums?" Well, today (part of) that has been announced. First off, I must state that this is NOT called Black Box II. That's my own name. This is called The Rules of Hell.
I have already asked a few questions of Band management regarding this box set, when I get some answers, I'll report back. What I've asked is this:
- Is this a new remastering session, or is it the same sessions that produced the versions used on the DIO Years?
- Anything in the way of extras, or is it just the albums like it was in Black Box?
- Will there be Geezer (or Ronnie as the case may be) approved lyrics again like there were in Black Box?
- Will the albums be made available on their own, or only as part of this box set?
Again, I do not know the answers to these questions - yet. When I find out, I'll report back. This is very cool, as the Dio era albums need an upgrade. I'm hopeful about the extras, because there are more tracks sitting around than what were on the actual albums, so hopefully some of that stuff can be released, too. Here is the official text regarding this set:
HEAVEN & HELL will be supporting the release of The Rules Of Hell a five-CD boxed set available on July 22nd from Rhino Records which features re-mastered versions of all four Dio-era Black Sabbath albums (Heaven And Hell, Mob Rules, Live Evil and Dehumanizer) in a deluxe package with new liner notes.
ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante spoke with the Twin Peaks Archive about a number of topics recently. When asked about the future, Benante responded: "Well, we’re demo-ing songs for a new record. We have a new singer in place, we’re really excited about this third stage of our career. I could’ve just packed it in and said ‘I’m done with this’, but we still have this drive, I still have this hunger. And I still have this catalogue of music that needs to be heard. We’re gonna hopefully put it out this year. We just wanna make it right, because with a new singer it’s gonna be under the microscope. I would say it’s gonna be a little more in the older direction that we were going into, and I would say it’s going to be more into a new direction. I hear elements of the old and I hear elements of new. We’re thinking of working with this guy Joe Barresi, who worked on the last TOOL record. I’m doing a lot of stuff in my place in Chicago, which is kinda like Anthrax central."

After successful European tour alongside BEHEMOTH, appearance at Wacken Road Show alongside OVERKILL, SAMAEL, ENSLAVED & TRISTANIA as well as UK / Scotland / Ireland tour with DISMEMBER, the band will be soon heading for their first tour ever in Poland ('Rebel Angels Tour') followed by an exclusive gig in Kiev with SATYRICON on the 18th of May. DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS will held main support slot while the gig will be opened by Nokturnal Mortum.
Devilish Impressions has been touring in support of their latest album, "Diabolicanos Act III: Armageddon."
SHADOWS FALL drummer Jason Bittner, former MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson, ex-JUDAS PRIEST/ICED EARTH and current BEYOND FEAR/YNGWIE MALMSTEEN singer Tim "Ripper" Owens and DAITRIBE guitarist Tristan "1690" Grigsby have joined forces to record a song for the upcoming tribute album to late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. Entitled "Leave It Alone", the track features solos by special guests Nick Bowcott (ex-GRIM REAPER) and fan Brian Cashmore. It was recorded and mixed in Chicago at Farview Recording by Jason Walsh, with additional tracks recorded at Saltmine studios in Phoenix, Arizona and Galahad in Cleveland.
The track is being streamed in full at this location.
"Leave It Alone" will be released to radio on May 6 and will be made available for download exclusively via iTunes. All proceeds from the song will go to the Little Kids Rock school program.
Little Kids Rock believes that all children in our public schools deserve music education as music education is a transforming force in children's lives. Dimebag had the same philosophy with always sharing his passion and love of music to the world inspiring kids to pick up a guitar.
Commented Owens: "It was a lot of fun to help write and record this tune with some great musicians and friends, and it goes to a great cause! So I would love for the fans to get off their asses and buy this tune for charity and not just a charity... it's Dime's charity. For once, don't download it for free!"
Added Ellefson: "Ironically, [the recording of the song] led to a really cool metal jam we did for Rockhouse at NAMM this year, a gig which brought in our friend Ripper to really tear it up on vocals. 'Leave It Alone' is not only a cool song but it was also the beginning of a great working relationship with me and Jason Bittner, doing clinics, jams, and so forth."
After weeks of speculation, Live Nation has finally confirmed a killer package that is bound to go down as the heavy metal event of 2008 — JUDAS PRIEST, HEAVEN AND HELL, MOTÖRHEAD and TESTAMENT will be touring together for the first time.
Dubbed "The Metal Masters Tour", the fifteen-date U.S. trek kicks off August 6 at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey. Tickets go on sale to the public beginning this weekend at www.livenation.com.
JUDAS PRIEST will be supporting their epic concept album, "Nostradamus", arriving June 17 via Epic Records, which tells the tale of the renowned 16th century prophet. A few tracks from "Nostradamus" will make their in-concert debut on "The Metal Masters Tour", but the majority of PRIEST's set list will include some of metal's all-time classics, as well as fan favorites that span the quintet's entire career. Without a doubt, this will be one of PRIEST's most powerful sets ever.
HEAVEN AND HELL will be supporting the release of "The Rules Of Hell", a five-CD boxed set available July 22 from Rhino Records, which features re-mastered versions of all four Dio-era BLACK SABBATH albums ("Heaven and Hell", "Mob Rules", "Live Evil" and "Dehumanizer") in a deluxe package with new liner notes.
Perennial road rats MOTÖRHEAD will be offering a blistering barnstormer of a set spanning more than three decades of molar-rattling biker metal. A new studio album — the 20th of their storied career — is currently being recorded at their old pal Dave Grohl's studio with an August release date targeted. Frontman Lemmy, named by the U.K.'s Guardian newspaper as "the nation's greatest living Englishman," blairs out, "Here it comes everybody, the test of your Metalness in 2008 and the years to come! Come one come all and be abused!"
Rounding out the line-up will be legendary thrash metal titans TESTAMENT, whose new album, "The Formation of Damnation", (April 29) displays TESTAMENT as the quintessential modern heavy metal band, whose experience and accumulated skill allows them to attack with reserves of anger, energy and finesse that make them more powerful than ever. Lead singer Chuck Billy says, "Uniting these bands is the heavy metal event of generations. We are so proud to be a part of it."
Although all four bands may represent different subgenres of heavy metal, all four have one thing in common – they have stuck to their stylistic guns through thick and thin, and have remained true to the metal form. And soon, band and fan will be united as one on "The Metal Masters Tour".
"As ever, we look forward to screaming out loud with our metal maniac fans when we hit the road," enthuses PRIEST singer Rob Halford. "Thank you once again for your devotion and support. The PRIEST is back!"
This tour will be limited to fifteen very special engagements, and Citi cardmembers will have pre-sale access to tickets through Citi's Private Pass Program, available to all Citi cardmembers at www.privatepass.citi.com.
Metal maniacs seeking the ultimate concert experience can access unique VIP ticket and fan experience packages that offer premium seats, meet & greets, pre-concert parties and more brought to you by the bands' official websites. While catching up with Sick of It All in Philadelphia, we got the chance to meet Mei-ling Koller, Sick of It All guitar tech, a powerful woman in a male dominated profession. We snatched her away from the mayhem backstage, and found a quiet spot in the in the First Unitarian Church to talk. We explored her journey, from how she started to what it takes to be a female in such a ballsy profession. Being in such a tough profession is trying at times, but Mei-ling Koller has the inner and outward strength, and the fortitude, to excel. More...
Seattle hardcore band Shook Ones were in the studio last weekend recording material for two upcoming split releases. The group tracked six new songs, four of which will appear on a split with End Of A Year for Runner Up Records. The remaining two tracks will be used for a split with Hour Of The Wolf, to be released by No Idea Records. According to the group, "They're getting mixed at the end of the month, and depending on the wishes of our respective labels, perhaps we'll give you a taste then."
Swedish black metallers IXXI have inked a deal with Candlelight Records.
IXXI was formed early 2006, in Stockholm. Some pre-recordings where made and in July 2006 the band entered Endarker Studio to record the first self-titled album. In October a video for the track "Ancient Spirits Are" was recorded. In June 2007, almost a year after the recording of the self-titled album, it was finally released by Total Holocaust Records. The very same month, June 2007, IXXI entered Endarker studio once again to record the second opus "Assorted Armament". Selin left the band prior to the recording and was replaced by Smoker but did make a guest appearance on the track "Armageddon Nobility". The CD was released in December 2007 by Sigilla Malae.
Baltimore-area metal band Seventh Seal has announced Jim Martin as their new drummer. Commenting on the drummer situation, Justin posted the following:
"We've had our eye on him for quite some time, he absolutely WAILS on the kit! You will not believe it when you see him live!! Thanks to EVERYONE that came and tried out, there were a lot of really cool guys that we met along the way. We've been auditioning for quite some time as you all know, we didn't want to rush our decision. Bringing in a new person is like adding a brother to your family and since you can pick and choose instead of just being born into a family with no option, you gotta make sure you pick the right one!!! We also would like to give a HUUUUUUGE thanks to Mark Mathias for filling in all this time on the kit for our live shows and our last studio trek. Now he can finally get back to whooping people's asses behind the scenes for Seventh Seal!! :) Mark, as you all may or may not know, has done all the drums on all 3 Seventh Seal albums as well as a ton of management stuff for the band. When we lost our old drummer he jumped in without question until we found the new one so we could continue the bands progression without having to wait. So again, THANKS MARK!!!!! Come check out our last two shows with Mark on drums at Angels and Ramshead this week, it's going to be INSANE!!!! Then be sure to come check out our first show with JIM "I PREFER PLASTIC ON MY BURGER" MARTIN at Dakota's in Chambersburg on April 26th, it's going to be off the walls in that place!"
Seventh Seal is planning to tour extensively this year, including a small tour into New England beginning the last week of May and into June. The band is finalizing dates for that run and will be announcing the dates for their "As Lives Of One" fall tour, which will see them hit the entire east coast during the month of October.
Los Angeles band Nevea Tears has officially detailed the line-up changes they've made during the past several months. Most importantly, the group is now actively seeking for a new vocalist. Here's a statement from the band:
"A lot of you have been wondering what the status of Nevea Tears has been in the last half a year or so. Many of you have seen us live during this time and have an idea what has been going on, but we have not made any official announcements. Immediately following our release of 'Run with the Hunted,' our second full-length under Eulogy Recordings, John (vocalist), Dom (bassist), and Stephen (drummer) all decided for personal reasons to part ways with the band. This was a heavy blow and all three of them will be dearly missed. This left the band with original members, Greg (guitarist and vocalist) and Jeff (guitarist and electronics), who decided the band should NOT end here. Approaching our November US Tour supporting this record release, Nevea Tears acquired temporary members Alex Reyes (vocalist), Aaron Wymore (bassist), and Matt Marquez (drummer) in hopes of continuing the band's career. Everything went well with the tour and the following shows. Matt became our permanent drummer and Alex and Aaron continued to help us out. Recently, Alex has moved to permanent bassist, and Nevea Tears IS currently looking for a new vocalist. In the meantime, Alex is still fronting the band and Aaron is still playing bass. Nevea Tears has big plans for their future and have already begun writing new music for the future. That said; if you are interested in trying out for the position of vocalist for Nevea Tears or know someone that would be perfect for our band, please contact us for more information. Serious inquiries only, please. Contact email@example.com or hit us up at www.neveatears.com if you are interested.
"Once again, we like to thank all the fans, old and new who continue to support us. Like always, we will continue to write, play shows, and hopefully be touring really soon! Please feel free to comment and talk to us."
