The Yellow and Black Attack is back - Stryper is about to embark on a string of select dates worldwide starting May 10th at Tailgaters in Bolingbrook, IL just outside of Chicago. The following press release was issued:
"Stryper is one of the few bands from a decadent era that features 'All Original Members.' They continue to tour the world and produce Billboard-charting albums. Brothers Michael Sweet and Robert Sweet, along with Oz Fox and Timothy Gaines, make up the legendary hard rock quartet.
"Looking back over the past 25 years, Stryper is considered to be a groundbreaking act on all accounts. They are one of the first Christian rock bands to achieve unprecedented success in the mainstream. Their 1986 album To Hell With The Devil is listed among CCM’s '100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music' and the band’s popular power ballad 'Honestly' became a Billboard Top 20 hit and reached number 1 on MTV. Their pop-rock hit 'Calling On You,' also entered MTV’s top 10, simultaneously with 'Honestly' being one of the first bands to have two top 10 videos on MTV. Even as recent as 2010 and 2011 Stryper found their way once again on the Billboard Charts with their albums Reborn, Murder by Pride and The Covering." More...

Three years after "Bridges to Burn" came out, 16 is back with its new album "Deep Cuts from Dark Clouds," which will be released on April 26th via Relapse Records. You can listen to an exclusive entire-album stream of all ten tracks over on Invisible Oranges. Vocalist Chris Jerue had the following to say about the album:
"It took us 20 years to write this record. We had to narrow things down and fine-tune this formula to the four people who wanted it the most. There have been like 14 people in this band. Now it seems like we have the right group to make good music…Since [2009's] 'Bridges To Burn' came out I had a real shitty three years. I can laugh at it now because I lived through it. That’s what this whole record is about. I have a whole different viewpoint. I could have died, and I guess I’ve been seeing things differently. When I listen to 'Bridges To Burn' now, I bore myself. But this record gets crazy without getting in your face with the negativity. I mean, it’s just as pissed but not as pissed at the same time."
Polish black/death metal band Pandemonium has released another song from the recently released album "Misanthropy." Check out the video clip of "Only The Dead Will See The End Of War" below.
Pandemonium also commented:
"The reaction of fans to Pandemonium’s concerts, which is continuously promoting our new album Misanthropy, makes us nothing but fully satisfied with a current condition of the band and our loyal fans. The material is by no doubt appreciated by people, what is proved by emotions stirred on each of our concerts!" More...

Death metal veterans Vore have announced that they have just signed with Germany's AFM Records. The deal will see a re-release of Vore's most recent album, "Gravehammer" (which was released by the band in December of last year) on July 20th on CD and vinyl formats. Barely a month after its release, "Gravehammer" reached the #4 spot on Amazon.com's death metal downloads chart. Vore had remained unsigned all these years and despite that fact has consitently charted on radio and released four CD's all on its own to decent reception. Check out a few songs from Vore's "Gravehammer," the recent album that will be re-released on AFM, over on MySpace.
Liv Kristine’s upcoming album (scheduled for a fall 2012 release) will feature a duet with German singer Tobias Regner, the 2006 winner of "Deutschland sucht den Superstar,” a German music talent show in the vein of "American Idol." The track is called "Vanilla Skin Delight," and Liv Kristine comments on the collaboration with Tobias:
"I've got news for you! Last week we recorded male vocals for the track 'Vanilla Skin Delight.' Our special guest is Platinum-Gold-awarded artist Tobias Regner! His voice just fascinates me, and as soon as we had made the decision that we would want a male singer on 'Vanilla Skin Delight,' I thought it would be just perfect having Tobias' powerful and warm voice completing this composition, i.e. turning it into a real rock song duet.
"Fortunately, our friend and movie-maker Konrad Hollenstein was able to provide us with the necessary contact information, thus we were able to get hold of Tobias the very next day. 48 hours later Tobias knocked on the door and I was very happy and grateful that he had found his way to Mastersound Studio. We realized straight away that we have so much in common (sports, both being born on the country side, good and bad experience with the music business, touring, red-wine, art...), despite the fact that we come from completely different musical backgrounds: Tobias winning 'Deutschland Sucht den Superstar,' the German version of Pop Idol, in 2006, compared to my own revolutionary beginnings with Theatre of Tragedy in the nineties.
"Here we are, being duet partners in the same song, moreover, it felt like we had known each other for a long time. Tobias is a very open-minded, warm-hearted and fine guy, with whom I really would like sharing stage with sometime in the future. He is a fantastic rock singer, and he is highly professional. I asked him to sing in the way he felt the most comfortable with. 'Vanilla Skin Delight' will blow you away!"
Megadeth bassist David Ellefson and guitarist Chris Broderick were interviewed on the black carpet of the Revolver Golden Gods Awards 2012 by Metal Injection. During the interview, the band members addressed their feelings on Dave Mustaine's recent controversial statements.

Nuclear Blast has issued the following announcement about Pain's upcoming "Into Darkness" tour dates:
"The gaping, sinister and black abyss has many faces – just like its musical offspring…for the second time, the Into Darkness tour will crawl upon Europe!
"In time for the dawning of black winter days, a live package will start hitting clubs November 9th and boasting a line up full of dark gems of the widest stylistic variety.
"Swedish legends Pain featuring maestro Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy) will fill the headliner position, and this act can truly make the dead dance! Morbid lyrics meet stomping industrial beats and wicked metal guitars: a band to make every goth, EBM freak and metalhead in the audience happy with evergreens such as ‘Eleanor Rigby‘, ‘Follow Me‘ or ‘Shut Your Mouth‘! 2011 saw the release of 'You Only Live Twice' and Pain are renowned to spread a heavy and somber atmosphere live especially."
Pain has the following upcoming live shows with Moonspell, Swallow the Sun, and Lake of Tears: More...

Van Halen has released their second single titled “She’s The Woman” from their latest album ‘A Different Kind of Truth’, this song is one of the six new songs that were based on older material. Here’s a look…
The video starts with classic slide moves of David Lee Roth and a smiling Eddie Van Halen. Everyone having a good time? Roth follows up with his version of working the pole.
0:43 Roth shimmying across the stage as the Van Halen boys look on, is Roth entertaining the audience or the band? Sometimes it is hard to tell. I guess that’s why Diamond Dave is often referred to as an entertainer first.
The video is the band playing their small come back show at Café Wha? in New York City combined with other stages (appears to be same stage as first video “Tattoo” in a lot of shots) and still photos moving across the screen.
1:11 David Lee Roth deep in thought or trying to remember the lyrics? Discuss amongst yourselves…
1:29 A still shot of an airborne Roth. Probably not recent, but still awesome!
FAVORITE YouTube comments: 3) “She's? the Wombat!” by k4cper3k 2) “no videos should contain lots of? still photos or overalls” by changeofaddress1 and 1) “cool, but who is the new young bassist? !!” by ccbbom.
1:44 A Kodak Gallery of still shots, then we get a look at Eddie Van Halen in red pants. Good to see he still has a little flare, and is not ALL frayed sweatshirts and jeans.
2:10 Was that an album promo in the middle of the video? A distraction or genius? Discuss amongst yourselves…
2:16 Roth using his scarf to “cool down” Eddie during a guitar solo.
2:48 An ass cam (we know because it says ASS CAM) displaying what appears to be a revolver tattoo on Roth’s ass!
2:55 “Thank you very much. Yeah!”
Pop/metal crossover act Kontrust has posted a teaser trailer online for the band's upcoming album "Second Hand Wonderland," which is due out via Napalm Records on April 27th, 2012. The trailer can be found below, and Napalm also commented:
"Highly Explosive Crossover. Millions of YouTube views, recurring international festival performances, sold-out venues, top chart placements, and top honors at the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards... One can only be referring to the crossover masters, Kontrust. Their latest album, 'Second Hand Wonderland,' delivers yet another explosive mix of playful and innovative songs.
"With breathtaking speed, appealing grooves meet catchy choruses and heavy guitars cavort with sweeping melody lines. Tracks like 'The Butterfly Defect,' 'Falling,' and 'Bad Betrayer' soon become favorites, revealing myriad nuances with each new run and showcasing the band's strength: experimental appeal. Once again, Agata and Stefan take center stage to deliver their fiery vocal interactions.
"The fantastic production allows the tracks to played as loudly as they should be without ever losing depth nor clarity. Those who believe that innovation has ceased to exist in the world of crossover, should allow themselves to be pleasantly surprised by Kontrust. The band has an ace up their sleeve!" More...

Napalm Records announced today that Gothic metal act Tiamat is currently in the studio recording tracks for a 10th studio album to be titled "The Scarred People," which will follow the band's 2008 release "Amanathes" (reviewed here).
Recording is taking place in the renowned Woodhouse Studios in Hagen, Germany with Siggi Bemm producing. You can follow the recording progress and check out photos from the studio on the band's Facebook page.
The album's release is tentatively scheduled for October 2012, with more details to be announced in the coming weeks.
After losing his singer – again – Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz says he considered ending the band he’s been a part of since the turn of the century.
“That thought definitely did cross my mind,” Dutkiewicz told Metalundergound.com recently. “Picking up the pieces after losing two singers is kind of ridiculous. But things worked out and we feel like a stronger unit.”
Adam D and his longtime bandmates – Mike D’Antonio, Justin Foley and Joel Stroetzel – first dealt with losing original singer Jesse Leach back in 2003, just as the band was taking off with its sophomore release, Alive or Just Breathing. Leach was battling depression and was replaced by Blood Has Been Shed’s Howard Jones, who went on to front the Massachusetts-based band as they earned a Grammy nomination and two gold albums and headlined sold-out arenas and festivals.
When Jones left last year to deal with his own personal demons, Dutkiewicz and the crew didn’t have to think too hard before deciding to bring Leach back into the fold. Dutkiewicz and Leach had toured together with their side project Times of Grace and have remained friends, despite the messy breakup a decade ago.
“Jesse did have an edge because he used to be the actual singer of the band. And he’s a great friend of mine,” Dutkiewicz said.
Dutkiewicz says he keeps in touch with Jones, who is considering writing a book about his experiences in Killswitch.
“Howard and I still chat and honestly he’s just doing his thing,” Dutkiewicz says. “We all wish him his best. He’s doing alright. He’s just chilling.”
For Leach, singing songs written by Jones took some time getting used to, but he says the emotion behind the words is what’s allowed him to make the songs his own.
“Initially it was kind of a strange thing for me . . . I’ve never sang someone else’s songs, my whole career,” Leach says. “I just sat with the songs and just listened to them. For me, it was really just taking them in and digesting them, and seeing how I could connect with the lyrics. I just fell in love with the songs. I think they’re great songs. It’s just honest. It’s just him pouring out his heart.”
One of his favorites to sing is “Arms of Sorrow” from 2006’s As Daylight Dies.
“That song moves me,” Leach said. “It’s such an honest song from Howard. It speaks volumes about being on the road and trouble with relationships. There’s something to that song that gets me.”
“Plus, the song crafting is Adam. It’s flawlessly written hooks,” he continues. “It’s just getting into the mind state of feeling every word I’m saying. I can’t stand on stage and pretend.”
Leach will make his return official Sunday at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival in Worcester, Mass.
On April 1 I saw Van Halen for the third time. The first time I saw them was in 2004 with Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, and that was a Top 5 show for me. Sammy was fantastic, as was the band, ripping through songs from every era in sizzling form. The second time I saw them was in 2007 (?), which was the first tour with David Lee Roth and Wolfgang Van Halen replacing Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, respectively. This wasn’t as good as my first Van Halen show, but great nonetheless, as seeing Diamond Dave for the first time was a treat.
That brings us to two Sundays ago, which was simultaneously phenomenal and phenomenally disappointing. More...
