California act Falling to Pieces has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band's vocalist:
"SOOO... after 2 amazing shows, the new guy Dave decided that he could no longer bring himself to do vocals for Falling To Pieces. We got an email from him a few days ago with not much more of an explanation that that, but he wished us well and thanked us for the opportunity. He then deleted his facebook account. Yeah, we're pretty confused ourselves.
"We respect his decision, despite that it came out of nowhere, and while we're super bummed because we were stoked on his vocals, excited to see what we could do with him, and see where our music would go, we wish him the best in his next endeavor and thank him for coming on board and helping us get back on our feet, even if it was for such a short time.
"With no returned contact from him, and no way to reach him on facebook, we can only hope he's OK, not in any trouble, alive and well, and not in the process of being deported or becoming a sex slave on the black market. (hey, you were probably thinking that too). More...
Adelaide Hills thrash metallers Alkira have released the track "At War (With the Core)" from their debut EP "Down From the Hills." The track features guest vocals from Lee "Liggy" Gardiner, vocalist of Double Dragon (soon to be "Sons of Asena").
The band states: "After gigging the Adelaide scene for nearly 2 years we decided it was finally time to lay down a decent recording, and we think this EP fully reflects what this band is about! It's raw, it's fast and it was fucking fun to make! We've gone for an 'old school' theme with the sound, artwork and vibe of the EP, reflecting the music we enjoy and love to make. It was an honour to have Liggy agree to do guest vocals on At War and his contribution has brought the song to a whole new level!"
Guwahati based deathcore act Devoid of Dreams will be releasing the new singles "March of Chaos" and "Where the Gods Fear to Tread" on cyberspace later this April. The following press release was issued:
"This is without a doubt the band’s most ambitious work till date and will feature the newest addition to their band, Chinmoy Kalita on vocals. The songs are packed with a strong Nu-age feel that evokes futuristic imagery, of sorts and highlights their ability to flawlessly merge their love for Death Metal, Progressive and other far-fetched forms like Hindustani Classical music.
"The new sound has so far been received fairly well by close friends and critics alike and the band will definitely be recording and releasing music, more frequently from now, having planned a tedious plan ahead, for the next three months both in studio and at live performances."
Frontman Chinmoy Kalita says, “Devoid of Dreams has many stories to tell and now feels like the best time to share it- Prog and Deathcore being at its zenith in the Indian scene. The new tracks are a drastically different from what we’ve worked on before and now that we’ve finished recording them in a studio set-up we finally feel complete."
All Against, the Finnish death/thrash metal band featuring singer Juha-Matti Perttunen (Catamenia), bassist Sami Knuutinen (Quake the Earth) and drummer Aleksi Heiskanen (Quake the Earth), has released a new EP entitled "Blindness."
You can check out the song "Drug of Choice" in the player below, and the track listing is as follows:

Brazilian metallers Heptah have revealed the cover artwork for their debut album "Master Of Delusion." The artwork was handled by Cleyton Souza and can be viewed here or below.
Raphael Jorge (Drums/Vocals) had this to say about the cover artwork: "Cleyton Souza is a super-talented artist and a friend, we've had the pleasure of working with him before when he did the cover art for our both singles, MySpace layout and Website. Rhads Clemente (Guitar/Vocals) basically just gave him the title and some initial ideas and he created one of the most beautiful images ever seen. He totally nailed what the album is all about."
"Master of Delusion" will be released in the first half of 2012 through MS Metal Records, and will have a limited edition digipack format.
Paris, France based act Proletaria has posted a music video online for the song "Mother Fucking Rockstar," which can be viewed below. The track is taken off the band's "30 Minutes Rockstar" album. For more details on Proletaria, head over to the band's official Facebook profile.
A trailer has been posted online featuring "Transition Metal," in which the band Noneuclid performed Richard Wagner compositions while Sinfonietta Essenbach performed a death metal song by Noneuclid. The video can be viewed below, and the following press release was also issued:
"An encounter of the unusual kind was offered on November 12th, 2010 by Sinfonietta Essenbach (a.k.a. Orchester des 13. Tons, conducted by Prof. Ulf Klausenitzer) and the progressive Death Metal band Noneuclid of the Bavarian-Dutch composer Florian Magnus Maier.
"In addition to the 'Rheinische' Symphony by Robert Schumann, Richard Wagner's 'Tannhäuser'-Overture and the final Death Metal set by Noneuclid, both the worlds of classical music and death metal, the music of Richard Wagner as well as Maier's contemporary compositions, were presented in a double-headed interpretation. Classical orchestra and metal band dared enter the world of the other and met in works created especially for that night, crossing boundaries between styles that only seem to be mutually exclusive. 4Arm has unveiled yet another video from the band's recently released album "Submission For Liberty."
The clip for "Raise A Fist" was once again produced and edited by Steve Ravic and Vesna Trokter and the crew of Majestic Films. It was filmed at the prestigious Palace Theatre in Melbourne, Australia of March this year and can be viewed below.
Commenting on the clip is drummer Michael Vafiotis. "There is just a real energy and vibe playing this song live and definitely a favorite of mine. The idea came up to visually capture this song live and show some of the intensity we produce at each show and I know it will do just that for all out there watching.”
The Montreal-based technical death metal band Derelict has released a third streaming single from the upcoming album, "Perpetuation," set for release on April 20th, 2012. Listen to "Spoils of War" in the player below.
"We definitely went all-out on the brutality for this track," comments Derelict vocalist Eric Burnet. "Max (Lussier, guitar) brought us a great mix of technical parts and straight-up headbanging riffs. The lyrics are about how most of our societies are built on top of the bones of previous ones that we destroyed."
More from Derelict, including the band's ongoing blog series, can be found at this location. Pre-orders for "Perpetuation," as well as several free track downloads, can be found at the Derelict Bandcamp page. More...

Vancouver, BC’s West of Hell is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of the full-length debut album, "Spiral Empire." The new album will be released with Reversed Records on May 8th, 2012. The following press release was issued:
"Spiral Empire features a unique sound that preserves the band’s legendary, distinctive influences whilst incorporating modern elements, creating a one-of-a-kind listening experience. Spiral Empire was recorded at The Factory Studios in Vancouver and is produced by Juno Award winning engineer Rob Shallcross (Strapping Young Lad, GWAR, Zimmers Hole, Fear Factory).
"West of Hell was formed in West Auckland, New Zealand by guitarist Ivan Vrdoljak and drummer Andrew Hulme in 2002. Shortly after founding, friends of the pair finally directed them to guitarist Sean Parkinson (ex-Sinate). Parkinson established an instant chemistry with Vrdoljak and Hulme, driving the trio to immediately begin working, writing songs, and forging their trademark sound. Then, after two years of painstaking searches and monitoring the grapevine, the band was led to bassist Jordan Kemp.
"With the instrumental portion of the band locked down, all that was left to be discovered was the perfect frontman. Having searched without success for perfect vocalist locally, the band decided to continue the hunt in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and uprooted to the area in 2009. In order to share their vision and establish West of Hell in a larger scene, they needed a singer that was more than just a screamer, which drastically narrowed the possibilities. The band played a series of shows as a four-piece instrumental, drawing critical acclaim, and ultimately attracted the attention of the local metal community. The exposure led them to Zimmers Hole frontman Chris 'The Heathen' Valagao. It was apparent to the founding members that Valagaos’s diverse skills were exactly what West of Hell needed to realize the band’s ultimate vision. More...
After spending many months in the studio, melodic death metallers The Agonist have finally finished their third studio album, "Prisoners." Produced by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) and mixed by Tue Madsen, "Prisoners" is set to be released via Century Media Records on June 4th in Europe and June 5th in North America.
In regards to this upcoming album, the band comments: "Creating 'Prisoners' was the most challenging under-taking to date for The Agonist. Years of emotion, passion, thought and experience went into making this album, and I think people will be able to hear, feel and think right along with us when they listen to 'Prisoners'."
Fans don't have to wait until release date to hear new music though. The band will be selling digital download cards throughout an upcoming tour with Kittie. The brand new track "Ideomotor" and the previously limited edition EP-only track "The Escape" will be available for immediate download, with the remainder of the album available on release date. Details for the run are as follows: More...

U.K. quartet Holodomor has debuted the new MCD "Témoignages de la Gnose Terrestre," which delivers five pieces of malign bestial death/thrash. You can check out the song "The Spell of Black Affliction" in the player below, and the full track listing is as follows:
1. Fall Into Time
2. The Spell of Black Affliction
3. Tribulation Stigmata
5. The Iconoclast
The band commented on the new material: "The aim of releasing Témoignages de la Gnose Terrestre was a sonic catalysation of fury, alienation and inhuman psychosis. The immense slaughter of Holodomor destroys thoroughly and mercilessly devastates the last remnants of coherent thoughts in the attack resembling some more excellent spells by AngelCorpse, Sadistik Exekution, Throneum or Revenge." Metal Injection was at South By Southwest, covering all the metal happenings and one of the most talked about events was a Q&A session with Slipknot's Clown, aka M. Shawn Crahan. Metal Injection had a few minutes to speak with Crahan, who discussed his new photography book, The Apocalyptic Nightmare Journey, out June 19th. Metal Injection also asked Crahan to elaborate on the future of Slipknot, and the recent difference in opinion between members of the band as to if new material is being written or not. Crahan did his best to explain the situation stating:
I can clear it up easily for you. Everyone in the band is writing all the time. Whether it's a micro-cassette recorder or a memo on your iPhone or Corey writing random things he invents in his head on a piece of paper or Joey saying 'I got nothing to do, I'm gonna go in the studio with all these ideas. I'm going to rent out a studio for a month and a half and I'm going to fucking write.'
I think what people don't understand about what's being said is that we're all dealing with Paul's death differently. Some want to move, some want to take time. But basically, what's being said is of course things are being written. But nothing is done because we're not together yet. And there is no reason to get together to talk about it because there are other things moving, like the grieving process.
Stone Stour is going to go out and do their thing, which they should. They've earned it. It's a good thing. Just me down here at SXSW, I'm the only guy here, doing something. I should be allowed to have this outlet.
Really, what it all comes down to is that, yes, writing is being done seriously every day, but it is going to be a while. It's just going to be. There's things going on. It gets a little perverted in the press, almost like 'he says yes, he says no, we got a problem.' It's more like, yeah, writing is going on but it's going to be a while, and both of them are telling the truth, and I'm here to tell you, we're not going nowhere!More...
Today Maryland's Dying Fetus has released the first song from the band's upcoming release "Reign Supreme." The band created a lyric video for the song "Subjected to a Beating," which can be found below.
"Reign Supreme" is set for a June 19th release via Relapse Records and features nine tracks and is a "return to roots" with production focused slightly more on slam than in the band's last few works. Thematically, the album is set to be a good old-fashioned piece of social and political commentary in the style of Dying Fetus as we have come to know. More...

Miami, FL newcomers, Abiotic, have become the newest addition to Metal Blade's roster with a newly signed, worldwide, multi-album deal. Metal Blade commented:
"Abiotic stormed onto the underground metal scene with the release of the 'A Universal Plague' EP in September of 2011. Since then, through word-of-mouth on-line and steady gigging in the South East, Abiotic has become one of the top bands to watch. Their music video for Vermosapien was released in January of 2012 and was viewed over 40,000 times within the first month of its release. The band has proven that they have the wherewithal to stand alongside the best and brightest in the technical death metal genre worldwide. Fans of Obscura, Veil of Maya, and Cannibal Corpse will immediately identify with their finely-honed technical attack."
Abiotic comments on the signing: "We can't express how amazing it is to be on the same label as some of our favorite bands and how great it feels to be working with one of the biggest labels in metal!"
Metal Blade also added, "It's rare to come across a band as well put together as Abiotic. The video for Vermosapien makes it immediately evident that this band has the chops, songs, work ethic, and live show to perform alongside any contemporary death metal act. We very much look forward to releasing this band's music to a worldwide audience later this year!"

There are few places I would rather see an event like Paganfest more than at The Palldium in Worcester. It is currently the venue in which I see the majority of great metal event pass through the Northeast. Needless to say, when I found out long ago that the great hall (which would have been more fitting the lineup here) would remain empty as Pirates and Vikings would be facing off in the dreaded upstairs portion, my heart was heavy. For one, the sweat soaked sardine fest that would come is not conducive to a man my size who generally enjoys a four foot warzone to avoid striking any of my metal brothers with lumbering limbs and no sense of balance. Secondly, even though I would witness my first live exposure to Alestorm and Turisas, two of many personal favorites, I would not actually hear OR see the event properly. The sound in the upstairs portion is absolutely unfixable no matter what the venue does and the stage is at least three feet lower. Unless you plow your way through the crowd of men, women and children leaving a trail of destruction behind to get to the front, photography with any camera is an epic fail. Even if you are that lucky, the frighteningly horrible house lighting rig showers the bands in merely blood red. So was the night that awaited me. But alas, the crowd was entertaining enough, the beer doth flow and above all the four main acts were there. For metal, we do most anything. More...

Every week in Unearthing the Metal Underground, we take a look at three quality bands that haven't gotten as much exposure yet as they should. This week, we will be taking a look at three heavy metal bands from Pakistan, whose name translates as "land of the pure" in Urdu, and seems to be the land of some very talented musicians too!
Black Warrant are one of the longest running heavy metal bands in Pakistan. Having formed in 1997 from the ashes of a former band named Metal Purge, by vocalist Ali Raza, with his brother M. Ali joining on rhythm guitars soon afterwards. The band has gone through many lineup changes since their inception, and currently neither brother is a part of the group, Their first album, "Recover" was released in 1999 and comprised solely of covers of songs by the likes of Judas Priest, Rammstein and Killing Joke, before their first full length debut of original music, "Desi" was released in 2004. They have since released six more records, consisting of both cover tracks and original music, with the most recent being, "Decade Of Destruction." They have been able to experiment with their sound over the years too, adding electronic and industrial elements and are one of the few metal bands from Pakistan to have toured outside of their country, performing in such places as Australia and the United States of America.

Michael Vescera recently commented on "Order of Chaos" in an interview with BW&BK: "It’s a cross between Carnival Of Lies and the early Obsession stuff. Sweden's King of Asgard has issued the following update about the band's new "...To North" album:
"We got the '...to North' master a couple of days ago and it sounds astonishing! Andy made a great job on the mastering along with Olof Berggren, it's upright and least say powerful.
"We feel very proud of what we achieved on this recording and merely the sound of it makes it a worthy followup to the firstborn "Fi'mbulvintr." Songs and sounds came out much as of what we planned, with power and of great variety. Forever greatful to Andy LaRocque, Olof Berggren and Michael Barnes.
"More news on cover art of Mattias Frisk, release date via Metal Blade Records and so forth to come in short.
"Song titles on '...to North' include among others 'Gap Of Ginnungs', 'Plague-Ridden Rebirth', 'Nordvegr', 'Up On The Mountain' and 'The Nine Worlds Burn'.
"All ablaze - The Nine Worlds Burn!"
U.K. based black metallers Deuteronomy have checked in with the following statement about their upcoming new album:
"Hello everyone. The mix is 100% ready but we had some delays with the vocal recordings.
"The reason is that 2 different studios agreed to cooperate with us and then they cancelled the recording few days before without any serious reason.
"We are sick with the whole situation, trying to deal with sub humans, so we've decided to do this on our own and we will start the vocals soon. We'll keep you posted since we are sure our debut album will satisfy your needs."

Netherlands-based act Persistense has issued the following statement about cutting short the band's recent show in Nijmegen:
"Yesterday was really nice at Staddijk in Nijmegen, great atmosphere and a lot of people came to see the bands.
"Unfortunately the night came to an end in a less positive way. One of the guys in the audience suddenly went ill, probably due to low bloodpressure, and fell to the ground wich resulted in a severe head injury... An ambulance arrived, and the medical staff took him to the hospital.
"At that point we were only halfway through our show. We decided together with Staddijk personnel to quit the show out of respect for the fallen warrior! If we played the rest of our gig, it probably wouldn't be as kick ass as it was ment to be, so we will come back to the venue and take revenge, tearing the muscles in your neck apart!
"Keep on moshing and banging your head!"

Swedish power metal band Sabaton announced the new lineup after the the recent band split this past Friday. The announcement on the band's Facebook page this morning reads:
This is the new Sabaton!
To end all rumors that Sabaton will stop touring, or even act/perform as a band, we can now present that Sabaton's new lineup will be as follows:
Joakim Brodén - Vocals
Pär Sundström - Bass
Chris Rörland - Guitars [Nocturnal Rites]
Thobbe Englund - Guitars [Winterlong]
Robban Bäck - Drums
At the moment we are still searching for a keyboard player. Until we have found the right guy we will still have Daniel Myhr with us, in digital form, since he has specially recorded all keyboards for us to use on tour.
Therefore, we are not cancelling any shows at all - the war machine of Sabaton will go on just as planned!
The MKII of Sabaton is ready for the next chapter...

We hope you enjoyed our April fools stories yesterday as much as we did! In our long-standing tradition, we devoted the entire day to fake news and spoofs. We had fun writing them despite the fact that we can't really fool most of you in our tenth year of the tradition, even when we start off with some very plausible (yet fake) stories. Many thanks to those of you resisted blurting out “April Fools!” In case you missed them, you can read yesterday's April Fools stories here.
I had fun reading all of them, as well as the comments, but here are a couple particular stories I want to talk about briefly:
Thanks to Alestorm for playing along and spreading the word of our April Fools that they were kicked off of Paganfest. With their help, the story spread so quickly that our server could not handle the load for a while.
Our Behemoth story seemed a little too believable despite the talk of "Spiritual Conflict" and Nergal's previous statements following his recovery, and we apologize for any confusion this story may have created. Behemoth has not dropped off the Decibel tour and we're very much looking forward to seeing Nergal back in action on this tour ourselves..
To those who got all worked up about it, we've been doing this for a LONG time now. The bands that get spoofed are mostly ones that we like and the others are just easy targets. And sometimes the stories practically write themselves! It's all in good fun, and no harm is intended.
