Vancouver's Bison b.c. is set to release their 3rd album, and 2nd with Metal Blade Records, "Dark Ages," on April 13th. Stereogum.com, in addition to sponsoring their current tour with High On Fire, will also be exclusively premiering the new Bison b.c. track, Two-Day Booze. You can hear the track now on Stereogum.com.
A bison is "a big, hairy, strong animal," says James Farwell, who plays guitar and sings for Bison b.c. That could as just as well describe the band, which rose from the ass-end of the continent in Vancouver, Canada, to utter its doomed, plaintive call, and tramples through the constellations on its four shaggy limbs (James, Dan And, Masa Anzai, and Brad Mackinnon). Ghostly, windswept prairies, the mythical haunts of native lore: it is all there. Self-described "Canadian dirtbags" and veterans of Vancouver's deep thrash and indie scenes, they are hitting their stride and offering up a new soundtrack for our last party before certain extinction. There is illness, abuse, apocalypse, and French horn.
"Dark Ages" was recorded by Jesse Gander, who also recorded Quiet Earth, at The Hive Creative Labs in Burnaby, British Columbia and was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music.

Guitarist and vocalist Chris Reifert has been involved with such lauded death metal acts as Death and Autopsy. His current band Abscess just saw a new release in the form of "Dawn of Inhumanity," a punk influenced album with a raw production that many fans of old school death metal crave. Speaking on the new album Reifert commented, "Our goal was to have it be like one piece and you want to hear the whole thing. Each song lends itself to the one before and after at. We wanted to get the full album experience instead of having people just put one or two songs on their iPod and forget the rest." A transcription of my conversation with Chris about the new album and the band's history can be viewed below. More...
Inner Sanctvm has issued the following update about working on a second full-length album:
"Since the second half of 2009 we've been hard at work with Inner Sanctvm, the result to that is that a full comeback album has been written by Heber W. Hammer and 50% of the album has been already recorded. Drums were recorded in Spain by Alvaro (García), guitars in Uruguay by Heber, and bass tracks are being recorded this month of April by Francisco (Martín) in Sweden.
"In May we'll be starting with the vocal tracks in England, we're already working with a new singer but we can't give any further details until we have finished the first sessions, anyway we would like to anticipate to all of you that the new singer is somebody who's seen by many as a demigod from/since the 80's Death/Thrash Metal scene, and we are more than pleased that Inner Sanctvm is making it to the next level.
"Lot of people has been asking/requiring for the ‘Frozen Souls’ album, where and how to get it, we'll that album has been out of print for several years now, we have received some offers to re-release it but we won't do it before we come out with our new material, in the meantime we'll be giving away 200 entire and full quality downloads of the original album. Stay tuned..."
Inner Sanctvm's music can also be heard at the band's MySpace page.

We hope you enjoyed our April fools stories yesterday! I know I'm a little late with this update, so sorry for the confusion. In our long-standing tradition, we devoted the entire day yesterday to fake news and spoofs. We had fun writing them despite the fact that we can't really fool most of you in our eighth year of the tradition. Although we did trick a few of you by starting off with some very plausible (yet fake) stories. Thanks go to those of you who helped sell the stories and played along rather than blurt out “April Fools!” In case you missed them, you can read yesterday's April Fools stories here.
You can also check out our previous years' spoofs at the following pages:
- April Fools 2009
- April Fools 2008
- April Fools 2007
- April Fools 2006
- April Fools 2005
- April Fools 2004
- April Fools 2003
As always, no offense is meant to either the people or bands discussed in the April Fools stories or to those whom we've attributed fake quotes. As is often the case in life, the bands we like most are the ones that get "picked on" in these stories.

California black metal act Ritual, which had a mini-battle online with Metal Sanaz due to comments during an interview with us, has issued the following update about calling it quits after taking part in an upcoming split release:
"Split release will be last ever Ritual recording. 2 split releases are being finalized which most likely be the last ever release by the band. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control and increasing interest in exploring other styles of music I have decided to call it quits. Re-releases have been planned for some time but have moved at an extremely slow pace. Please do not pay any download site money for purchase of our material wait for the real thing.
"Ritual has never been part of any Southern California brotherhood, or a buddy band. I have always been a lone wolf, fought my own battles with very few allies. Hail Ernesto, Patrick, Jase & Mike, Scott, Emperor Dragoro, and a few others. Fuck the rest. Look for a new genre creation that will be just as dark but something new. Unexplored Depths Of Hell will be the last release."
Ritual's music can still be heard through the band's MySpace page.

That recording has finally been scheduled, for May 2010, at Developing Nations in Baltimore, Maryland, with Kevin Bernsten (of grindcore band Triac) at the helm.
"The as-yet-untitled first full-length record for the band, to be released by Selfmadegod Records out of Poland, will feature the grind ‘n’ roll sound the group is known for, as well as lyrics covering social and political subjects they continue to feel strongly about. This will be the first recording for the band since turning in their tracks to Relapse Records for This Comp Kills Fascists Vol. 2."

Cattle Decapitation vocalist Travis Ryan has issued the following update about the band canceling their Canadian tour dates:
"Unfortunately, dear humans of Canada, I must why we can't come to Canada on the upcoming JFAC/Whitechapel tour: Here's the deal guys, I made a big mistake in June of 2001. I went out driving after a few drinks and the cops pulled me over. I blew just UNDER THE LEGAL LIMIT on the roadway (.06 - very much under the legal limit), but since I was swerving while looking in the rear view at the cop racing up behind me, they took me in and I got charged with a DUI. I fought it in court and got it reduced to a reckless driving conviction. Just to clarify, this all happened in San Marcos, California, not Canada.
"NOW, the Canadian border only cares about what I was charged with - a DUI, which they take very seriously and have threatened me with possible jail time if I try to come back up to Canada without getting it pardoned at the Canadian/US consulate. I paid $250 out of my own pocket for a "temporary residents permit" each of the 3 times we've been there since 2007. They said if I do not get a "Pardon" or successfully complete an 'application for rehabilitation' before the next time I try to cross into Canada, I will be going to jail. They keep this info in their systems for 10 years. In July 2011, this will all be behind me and I will not have to worry about crossing into Canada anymore. More...

I think we're going to have to keep this up, because musically and emotionally, we still have a lot to say!"

Soilwork vocalist Bjorn "Speed" Strid has posted a new update online discussing the bands forthcoming new studio album and the bands recent travel problems. The message reads as follows:
"So, here we are, back in Sweden after the worst travel experience we've ever had. We were supposed to fly from Greensboro to Newark and then connect there to Stockholm. We arrived at Greenboro and found out that our flight was delayed, only 30 mins though. 30 mins turned into 2 hours and we started to realize that we were gonna miss our connecting flight to Stockholm from Newark. The Continental staff told us that if we don't make it for the Stockholm flight, they would put us on a flight to Manchester, UK and then fly from there to Stockholm. When we arrive at Newark, we see our SAS flight pass by from our seats, it's like there was a huge middle finger painted on the side of it. When we get inside the airport, the staff are telling us that our Manchester flight is delayed 3 hours, which meant that we now had a total of 6 hours layover. More...

American heavy metal band Icarus Witch has announced that have found a new second guitarist. A message from the band reads as follows:
"Many people have mentioned over the last few years that they miss hearing Icarus Witch as a two guitar line-up with the harmonies, rhythms and dual leads intact. Our position was that we also enjoy hearing those elements but did not want to inject a new, unknown member into an equation that was already running so smoothly on stage. While on the Paul DiAnno tour we were fortunate enough to have that secnd guitar slot for Paul's set filled by a phenomenal talent in Pittsburgh area guitarist, Ed Skero (aka Full Metal Duffy).

Ryan Waste, guitarist of crossover thrash metal band Municipal Waste, has announced that he has formed a new band entitled Volture, which will be more in the vein of bands such as Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate and Heavy Load. A statement from Ryan Waste reads as follows:
"Ever since I was a young headbanger, I dreamed of doing a real heavy metal band. Growing up on Judas Priest and eventually delving into more obscure NWOBHM bands, I yearned to have one of my own. It wasn’t until 8 years ago when I met our vocalist, Brent Hubbard, that I thought this would actually be possible. His natural singing ability floored me upon the first note and I knew we needed to start a band. It’s been a long time coming, but I am proud to say we have arrived in full force to shock the world with Volture! In this heavy metal ensemble, I returned to my musical roots as a bass player along side the phenomenal shredder Nick Poulos on guitar. Joined by veteran Barry Cover behind the kit, we are now stronger than ever."
Israeli heavy metal outfit Orphaned Land has posted a new video online, which takes a look at the making of their latest music video, "Sapari." You can check it out below. The song comes from the bands fourth studio album, "The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR." Speaking on the song, the video and its meaning, vocalist Kobi explained: "With the video clip, we are trying to reflect this inner search of a man and his spirit. The actor, Matti Atlas, was filmed in a room, sitting in a box, writing scared stuff. This is the exact way they used to sit and write in the old days in Yemen. He is writing… searching. At one point, he starts to freak out; to write on the walls, on his body, getting even possessed in a way. He is alone, confused, searching for answers and meaning, just as we all are.
"Sapari (means ‘tell me’ in hebrew) is a 17th century poem written by Sa'adia ben Amram, a jewish Poet who lived in Yemen back then. The song is a duet between the poet and his soul. The poet seeks for his soul and asks her where is ‘she'. The soul, described as a dove in the song, answers that she is at the high chamber, heavens, preparing herself to wear the shape of a human body. In a way, this song reflects the inner search that every human is going through. W e are getting to know our self more and more each and every day, and our journey here is far from being easy." Swedish heavy metal outfit Wolf has posted a new music video online for their song, "Hail Caesar." You can check it out below. Speaking on the video, guitarist Johannes stated: “When approached by Morning Star Films to shoot a video for 'Hail Cesar' we were thrilled since we've never worked with them before. They had similar ideas as we did for a video since we wanted a "down to earth" heavy metal video. No fancy stuff, just a lotta flying v's and head banging. We decided to let Morning Star follow us from load-in till doors close. And where better to capture the insanity of a Wolf gig than in Gothenburg/Sweden at the Belsepub on our Ravenous tour?
"All said and done! We give you a video with us, our fans, beer, guitars, tattoos, sweat and the works. We wanted the intense feeling of a club gig and we wanted to make it feel like "you're there". We thru in a few clips from a movie as well, just to give it an artistic feel... but truth said... we just wanted the head banging right?
"Working on a video including live clips make you wanna play live even more, so we're very excited to unleash this live fury on the upcoming gigs at the Rock Hard in Germany and also, for the first time for Wolf, in Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur fest!
"So enjoy... we goddamn did... and still do!" More...
