Angra And Operation: Mindcrime In London

Whenever bands announce a tour of the United Kingdom, or even just one show, one of the most likely venues to show up will be the The Underworld in Camden. It's a very famous venue, located under The World's End pub, which is a great place to listen to metal over a beer. Inside the venue itself on this occasion, Brazilian metal veterans Angra would be headlining a show which also featured special guest Geoff Tate (former Queensryche vocalist) and his collective, Operation: Mindcrime, as well as American outfit, Halcyon Way.

Though the show was scheduled for six, problems meant that doors didn't open until seven and subsequently scheduled opening act Ravenscry were not able to perform. Halcyon Way were also dealt a blow as they were only able to play for around twenty minutes, in a set which appeared to contain no more than five songs. There was little time, as a result, for the band and audience to connect and their set seemed to be over before it really began. For this reason, it's unfair to really judge Halcyon Way on this performance. More...

Earth's Yellow Sun Premieres New Video

We've got the exclusive premiere of Canadian progressive metal band Earth's Yellow Sun's new video for the song "Entertain Me." The track is a cover of a song that was originally done by Armenian jazz pianist Tigran Hamasyan. The video was filmed at the Pickering Waterfront in Ontario, Canada. The song will be released on all streaming platforms today.

The band commented "Tigran Hamasyan’s ‘Entertain Me’ was a song that we loved the first time we heard it. Even played by just a piano trio, it’s so heavy! Very Meshuggah-esque, in the way that it’s in 4/4, with an odd time signature ostinato repeating underneath. When we were figuring out which songs we wanted to cover, this song was on the top of the list. We also stayed very faithful to the original on this one.”

In January, the band released their a music video for their cover of Rush’s “Overture 2112/The Temples of Syrinx,” featuring Rody Walker of Protest the Hero on vocals. The band’s sophomore original release, "The Infernal Machine," is a concept record that tells the story of a futuristic society’s dependence on technology, and the ensuing conflict between human and machine.

The band is currently writing new material which will appear on the next record in late 2018 or early 2019.

You can listen to the rest of the band's discography on Bandcamp.

Visions Of Atlantis Posts New Video Online

Symphonic metal masters Visions Of Atlantis released their new album, "The Deep & The Dark," last month via Napalm Records. The band have now released a video for the title track. Check it out below.

The Deep & The Dark is available as exclusive Deluxe Box Set, CD Digipak and Digital Download editions.

With "The Deep & The Dark," Visions Of Atlantis once more set sail to oceanic myths and the eternal dream of the sunken continent. The varied and fascinating voice of Clémentine Delauney provides for hauntingly beautiful duets with Siegfried Samer's classic power metal infusions, embodying the symphonic metal cake: From the grandiose album title track "The Deep & The Dark", folklore elements in "Ritual Night" to the up-tempo juggernaut "Return To Lemuria", Visions of Atlantis round off all their facets in this mystical adventure. But this album wouldn't be complete without a bewitching ballad! "The Last Home" belongs to one of the memorable songs these Austrians have ever composed. More...

Melechesh Frontman Stars In Interactive Comic Book

Since summer 2017 Ashmedi - the founder an frontman of Melechesh has made two trips to Armenia. Strangely, he was not there on a tour or for rest but to work on the very first Metal Depot interactive comic book, which features Melechesh and the forgotten Sumerian gods. The 130-page epic is based on true episodes of Ashmedi's life, as well as some memorable events that happened throughout Melechesh career, with a little bit of interference of dark forces, of course, which are awakened by the music of the band and are ready to unleash chaos on the land of mortals - aka our world.

"Emissary Of The Anunnaki: The Tale of the Fire King" will be released this summer. The interactive part of the graphic novel will allow the readers to have an impact on the story and help the characters make choices in different situations. Also, an audio version will be available, where the readers can hear the dialogues. The protagonist is voiced by Ashmedi himself and the representatives of different generations of rock/metal musicians in Armenia and professional actors as the secondary characters.

According to Ashmedi, it feels strange seeing himself as a drawn character. He compares it to hearing your own voice in a recording and not recognizing it at first. "To be drawn in a fictional graphic novel – in a different setting – the fantastical, mythological and mystical world of Sumerians, and the whole mythology that you hear in Melechesh songs, to be in it - it's quite fun! First time I saw it, I said 'This is really impressive!" says Ashmedi.

Becoming a comic book hero might be impressive, but the creators of the epic promise that Ashmedi and his band have to go through some badass adventures in the story while facing the very angry Sumerian Goddess of War and Passion - Ishtar.

For more information, shots and panels from the comic book and to discover what rewards you can receive, check out the comic's Kickstarter page.

Walmart Refuses To Carry New Stryper Album

In a surprising and ironic turn of events, several Christian stores, as well as major chainstore Walmart, have refused to stock the new album from Christian metal pioneers, because they object to the title of the record, "God Damn Evil." The record is set to be released tomorrow (April 20th) but fans may have to look to other retailers to find the album.

"We’re disappointed," says frontman Michael Sweet. "Stryper has always been about making people think outside the box. Our new album title 'God Damn Evil' is a statement that's needed in our society. We've seen evil rise to new levels and this title is simply a prayer request asking God to damn or condemn all the evil around us. Many chains have joined us in making such a statement. Walmart unfortunately has not. The odd thing is of all the chains out there we assumed Walmart would be one to understand exactly what our point and purpose is. Unfortunately not. Although we respect their decision and what's done is done, it's frustrating to see something that's meant for good get misinterpreted and misunderstood."

Vio-Lence Vocalist Back In Hospital

After undergoing a liver transplant last month, Vio-Lence vocalist Sean Killian has been taken back to hospital following complications from the surgery. The singer is suffering from stage 4 cirrohsis of the liver and is seriously ill. His wife Dana Rivero Killian has check in with the following update:

"Sean is back at UCSF. We've been here since Friday. Long story short.... post-surgical complications including infection and bile leaks. Lots and lots of diagnostics, treating issues as discovered, but still symptomatic and experiencing a lot of pain. The worst is watching him suffer and not being able to help! Physically, he is wasting away. The pain has been unbearable & difficult to manage. He's so very malnourished and weak.

"Just one hour ago, he was taken to surgery. They'll re-open his incision, flush out the bile in his abdomen and make all necessary repairs. I've been by his side and while I love the intimacy and how much closer we're growing, I wish he'd just get better! Praying this surgery will be the final, once-and-for-all solution so he can begin the healing process again and not have any more setbacks. More than likely, he'll be back in the ICU. The plan moving forward depends on what they discover.

"I'm staying at a hotel with no plans to leave until we can leave together. Without the funds coming in from all the charity events, Go Fund Me account, etc... it wouldn't be possible for me to be here. The costs involved for this entire situation are simply astronomical, especially in SF. So, THANK YOU ALL!!!"

“I’ve decided to delay the Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals/King Parrot tour until August-September. As many of you know, I had a second back surgery in late January. I’m having an incredible recovery, but just want to be one-thousand percent when I get to jam the new Illegals with all my brothers and sisters. My apologies for jumping the gun extend to the fans, my fellow Illegals, King Parrot, our crews, and all mechanical parties involved, but we will all see it’s the right decision soon.
