Sometimes you fight to get to the front of the crowd and see your favorite band up close and personal. Other times, it's not worth the effort.
That was the case for one unlucky lady who had the misfortune to be at the front of the pit when Dawn Of Ashes was playing... and one member was battling a truly wicked case of phlegm.
For this week's spectacularly gross Pit Story, Dawn Of Ashes shared the following mucus-laden tale:
I can't recall what state this happened in but on our tour with Dimmu Borgir, I came down with a nasty cold from being in below zero weather in Canada. From the illness, I was coughing up really gross green mucus.
While on stage at whatever venue we were playing at, I coughed up this gnarly mucus ball and spit it directly into the crowd. All of this happen in slow motion like in a movie. I looked down and right in front row I see a girl pulling this mucus out of her hair all in slow motion. It was fucking disgusting and I was trying not to die laughing while singing. Definitely a funny ass experience.
Third Dawn Of Ashes full-length album "Daemonolatry Gnosis" will be released June 9th through Metropolis Records. Check out a lyric video for the track "Guardians" below and get full album details over here. More...
Scandelion just issued this update about gearing up to release new album "When Everything Turns Black" later on this month:
"It's been a while since the last update and we apologize for it. However, this time is for a good reason. It has been a long and hard process with endless difficulties but finally we can announce that the new album is ready.
"'When Everything Turns Black' tells an intricate story that takes us from the Middle Ages to a distant future, where Dualism and Transmigration of Souls play a decisive role.
"The album will be available to listen through our Bandcamp profile from the 23rd of April. Stay tuned for the upcoming news regarding the physical release, very soon!
"Meanwhile, as a preview, you can listen one of the tracks of the album. We hope you enjoy it! Thanks for your patience and support." More...

"Perfect World Creation" is a concept album revolving around the creation of the universe, dissecting that theme from both scientific and mythological points of view. Bloodstock has six more bands lined up for the Sophie Lancaster stage this year: Leeds metal trio Blind Haze, Italian power/classic metal outfit, Arthemis, sludgy groove beasts Gods, symphonic goth outfit Season's End, Bristol progressive rockers Endeavour and classic rock n’ rollers, Blind River.
The festival's organizers further comment: "We’re also thrilled to welcome back Last.fm as sponsors of the Sophie Lancaster stage for 2017. Check out their Spotify playlist of bands on the Sophie stage and get excited for August!
"Bloodstock's ever tenacious search for the best breaking bands culminates soon with the kick off of the ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ finals on 22nd April. The festival’s incentive to give up-and-coming acts a break by offering slots on the bill at Catton Park has helped give many acts a career launchpad and the finals see the M2TM team narrowing it down and picking their winners for 2017.
"This year, M2TM ran in 29 UK regions, plus events in Ireland and Norway to find bands for the New Blood Stage. Attendees at the finals can also win weekend festival tickets or prizes from our sponsors, Kraken rum and Hobgoblin ale. The lucky bands winning a slot on the New Blood stage will also be in with a chance of landing extra goodies from our friends at Gibson Guitars, Studiomaster & Carlsbro or recording time with Russ Russell at his Parlour Studios in Northampton." "We kick things off with Windhand, a scene favorite that has also managed to capture the hearts and minds of rock fans worldwide with their unique brand of female-led Sabbathian worship. Radio Moscow is another winner with a stone solid live reputation that will be sure to set the DF stage on fire.
"Next up, something more out of the ordinary: Part Chimp blends sludgey riffage with the acid bite of Amphetamine noiserock, and will delight anyone with a fine ear for heavily distorted blues. Finally, we keep the tradition of presenting Belgian bands to our international crowd. Hemelbestormer (that's Dutch for 'Stormer of Heaven') is a local postmetal band that has been making waves in Europe and the States for the last couple of years." More...

Eric Wagner is a unique and legendary voice in the doom scene, and M-Theory Audio is pleased to announce the release of his next Blackfinger album, "When Colors Fade Away," this coming summer.
Renowned and still cherished for the classic material he recorded with Chicago’s Trouble for over two decades, in recent years Wagner has been focusing on a couple other promising new bands in a similar vein and one of those is Blackfinger. Now relocated to Pittsburgh, Eric has a new full band lineup and is joined in Blackfinger for a sophomore album by another respected name in doom metal circles: guitarist Terry Weston of Dream Death/Penance.
“I’m extremely excited to announce that Blackfinger has signed with M-Theory Audio,” cites Eric Wagner. “It is an honor and a pleasure to work with Marco Barbieri again after all these years.”
“Eric, the pleasure is all mine,” responds M-Theory Audio’s Marco Barbieri. “Eric Wagner is a true artist, talent and storyteller. I’ve spent the last 34 years listening to classic tales weaved by this man; and he is truly one of my favorite vocalists. Along the way I’ve had the pleasure of working with Eric and Trouble while at Century Media during their Plastic Green Head album cycle and even had his other band, The Skull, headline one of the Doom in June Festivals. Now our co-operation and friendship continues and I am fortunate to release the new and phenomenal Blackfinger album.” More...

Ulsect has released another new track off the band's forthcoming self-titled album: check out the band's take on dissonant blackened death metal with "Unveil" below.
Regarding this new track, the band comments: "Our song 'Unveil' speaks of scorned omens and the revelation of inevitable consequence. The chaos and sudden transitions that initiate this track are contrasted by a moment of clarity, ultimately leading to a crushing and repetitive mantra; a symbolization of the vicious cycle in which death is a necessity for life to bloom."
Ulsect features Joris Bonis and Jasper Barendregt of Dodecahedron as well as former Textures bass player Dennis Aarts. The band's eponymous debut album will be released on May 12th via Season Of Mist, with the track listing as follows:
Connecticut-based group Eyes Of The Dead just issued the following statement about parting ways with the band's guitarist after one final show at the end of April:
"If you hadn't already heard, our guitarist Rob 'Hobbit' Moore is expecting another child this summer, and with that comes all the family responsibilities that need to take top priority in life. With that Hobbit has made the difficult decision to step down as our guitarist in order to put all his focus into his growing family.
"It's been a year since Hobbit first came back into EOTD, and we couldn't be more grateful for the time and work he has put in with us, and thank him for that. It will be sad to have him leave our ranks, but everyone understands that it's what's best for him in his life right now, and wish him the best for everything he has coming.
"Keep an eye out for some more news on who he will be passing the torch to as our new guitarist, that will all be announced soon enough. In the mean time, follow the link here to Nasty Fest at Cherry St in Wallingford on the 29th. This will not only be Hermon VonRolls last show with Nasty Disaster, but also Hobbits very last show with Eyes of the Dead. It's truly a night you will not want to miss out on!" More...

"Sad, but yet somehow beautiful - this could be a roughly description for 'Sirens & Slumber.' Mountaineer introduces itself with a debut album that is build on opposites and supposed contradictions. At the same time, the nine songs touch the listeners in the innermost.
"The group pursues a subtle straightforward path, using clear patterns of action. Nevertheless, the songwriting is surprising and thrilling. At first listen you never expect the recall factor, 'Sirens & Slumber' develops. With only little input, Mountaineer creates magnificent music - an organic soundscape of ravishing beauty and formidable profundity." More...

Chilean/Canadian thrash hybrid Social Arsonist will be hitting the road for dates across British Columbia and Alberta for the month of May, which will then be followed by a tour of Chile and a return to Canada to perform at the Loud As Hell festival in Drumheller, AB (full dates listed below).

Middle East extreme metal pioneers Nervecell released the new song "Proxy War," which you can enjoy in the player below. The song is taken from the band's upcoming new album "Past, Present, Torture." The album will be issued this summer via Lifeforce Records, with more information expected soon.
"Past, Present…Torture" is the band’s third full-length studio release and follow-up to 2011’s "Psychogenocide." The album was mixed and mastered by Wojtek and Slawek Wiesawski at Hertz Studios (Behemoth, Decapitated, Vader) in Poland. The album cover artwork (shown below) was created by Colin Marks of Rain Song Design (Exodus, Origin, Whitechapel).
The band commented: "'Past, Present…Torture' is an album we’ve been working on for roughly the last 4 years. The album consists of 13 new tracks that promise to be the most extreme and versatile Nervecell record to date, have no doubt about it! The title speaks for itself, focusing on the state of the world and where we are all headed as a civilization. We can’t wait for you all to have a taste of what’s in store, don’t say we didn’t warn you…" More...
Dutch metal act Onegodless will issue the debut album "Mourner" on June 9th. The CD comes with earplugs, as the album is best to enjoy on volume at 11. Pre-order can be made at onegodlessofficial.com.
"Mourner" was produced by Robin Zielhorst & Tymon Kruidenier (Cynic, Exivious, Skeletor, Codex). It was mixed and mastered by Tymon Kruidenier and the artwork (shown below) was created by GutsArt in cooperation with Zielhorst.
Onegodless was founded by bassist Robin Zielhorst. Zielhorst is known for his (fretless) bass playing in bands like Cynic, Exivious, Our Oceans, Textures, various studio projects and solo performances, and joins forces with Pieter Verpaalen (Textures), Yordi Lopez (Red Eyes, 3D Monster) and Yuma van Eekelen (Pestilence, Exivious).
Zielhorst commented on the album: "A lot of the things we say are meant in a humorous way, more or less. It's a reaction to the (music) world as it is right now. Of course we did not invent a new genre called 'HEAVYSTONERBLUESGROOVEROCKSLUDGEMETAL,' but it was either that or call it anti-Djent (laughs). The music and the lyrics are very serious, though, there's not a joke in that".
About the album title and its artwork Zielhorst says: "It fits. It's a link to the previous band name, a way to include our roots, so to say. It also underlines the artwork: the Yogi man (inside artwork) mourns about the world, closed off in his own being."
The track list for "Mourner" is:
2. The Calm
3. Burn The Sun
4. Countless Hours
6. Hangman's Time
7. Songs Of Old
10. My Blood
11. From The Ashes More...
