Spanish gothic metal act In.Verno saw the release of their debut full-length album "Realscapes" last year, and is also currently in the process of writing a follow up release. Mixing clean female vocals with deep death growls, the band straddles the line between light and dark, beauty and evil. The band has posted several songs from the album online, which can be heard here.
While discussing the band, drummer Jorge García shared that "In.verno doesn’t follow political or religious ideas, but tries to describe human experiences that anyone of us could feel in any moment. Metal is a powerful, shocking and direct style, and fits in a very good way with the expression of messages condemning many injustices of the daily world." Read on to see what the rest of the band members had to say about In.Verno's history and their writing process. More...
Australian progressive metal act Sobrusion has posted a small tour report, and the bands plans for the immediate future including the filming of the band’s first official video clip.
"Well we’ve come to the end of our first run of shows from the last 2 months and glad to see many, many new faces and even better people singing our songs and gettin their jive on at the shows. Cheers for everyone who has bought a CD so far. They are going like bloody hot cakes which makes us better feeling so thank you.
"What next? WELL! We’re going to bunker down for a few weeks, take a breathe, prep some new songs, and get out and prepare to blow you sideways when you see us next. Plus, we’re even going to have some new merch (finally) too. Oh yeah and we’re shooting a film clip (on 24/4/2010) for Echo of the Ants so keep your peepers peeled for its grand unveiling."

Danish power metal band Royal Hunt has posted the first song, "Shadowman," from their upcoming new album "X." Listen to the song on their MySpace page.
Royal Hunt has also recently signed a deal with Scarlet Records for the European release of their new album ‘X.’ Keyboardist André Andersen comments on the new album, “This album came out of our love for the 70´s music (tagged as Classic Rock nowadays) – from Kansas, Genesis and ELP to Uriah Heep and Deep Purple - music which was/is very adventurous while just a tad naïve at the same time (as some might say). We all are notoriously resistant to categorize it in any way, form or shape, but (if hard pressed) would go as far as saying that it’s definitely much more hard rock than metal and if by ‘progressive’ you might mean some odd time signatures here and there as well as random key changes – sure, there’re tons of them here… as well as really basic, simple stuff – so go figure.” The album will be released in June 2010 and “If you’re into pre-MTV, pre-computer/digital but pure quality rock – this thing’s been tailor made for you!"

Sweden's Hostile Cell has issued the following announcement about parting ways with their bassist Johan Andreassen:
"As of last week we have parted ways with bassist Johan Andreassen. This decision was made quickly due to a series of events related to the making of our new album the Deafening. Johan has failed to fulfill his part in order to get this album out, and we have not spoken to him in days. Apparently he has no interest in explaining himself or pay the money that he owes us as he has made himself unreachable in every way. The good news is that we are all extremely happy to announce, that original bass player Per Romvall, is once again a permanent member in the band. A good friend and talented musician is back to make Hostile Cell better than ever!"
You can also check out Hostile Cell's music via the band's official MySpace page.
Megadeth's David Ellefson has checked in with the following update about their Mexican tour dates:
"What an amazing welcome to Mexico this evening...14,000 people packed in the arena thrashing and having the time of their lives! This was a great way to kick off the Latin America tour. We'd played this arena before to some great crowds; once with Judas Priest (when Ripper was in the band) and once with Motley Crue. But tonight was a new level....something really special, and especially to play the 'Rust In Peace' set for our fans here in Mexico City.
"I brought my authentic Mexican soccer jersey with me from home so I could where it tonight for the encore. It was a gift from a fan a few years back so thought it would be appropriate to sport it for such an amazing crowd. Tomorrow we're off to Brazil to start the South American portion of the tour. Good night and Muchas Gracias Mexico!"

Greek melodic death metal outfit Nightrage has posted the following message on the band's website:
"Peter Steele/Type O Negative have always been a huge influence on me. Not really musically as more as they were emotionally.
"I remember buying Bloody Kisses on a vacation in America in 1992. It was like a new world opened up to me. I realized then that music was to show no limits. No compromise and no trends exist. Only what you really feel inside. I think Peter Steele was one of the only musicians I ever heard truly do this.
"To the rest of the band: We all feel for you. And we drink to all of you and the Wolf Moon.
Swedish progressive metal band Evergrey has checked in with the following album and tour update:
"As promised there will be a whole lot of news coming your way in the coming weeks and days.
"We have and still are undergoing some BIG changes in Evergrey at the moment. This involves everything you can possibly imagine, and can’t imagine. BUT we are also very determined and focused on making the best album we have ever accomplished! We have NEVER spent so much time on detail as we are doing on this album. Everything from sounds to song-structures is under the magnifying glass and nothing will be left to chance.
"Purely business related we are also undergoing changes, both big and small and the only thing we can and are allowed to say right now is that being us is very exciting for the moment :)" More...
German power metal band Blind Guardian has revealed the first single from the new album to be "A Voice in the Dark." The single will contain the songs "War of the Thrones" and "You're the Voice" (a John Farnham song). The release date is June 25, 2010 for Germany. More details to be confirmed.
Krypteria drummer, S.C. Kuschnerus, checked in with the following recap on the Go-to-Gö festival, which took place in Görisried, Germany, on Friday (April 16) with substitute guitarist, Olli Singer. Singer is currently taking over guitar duties for Chris Siemons, who had to sit out the tour due to health problems.
"We are back from our trip to the Allgäu and the Go to Gö, which turned out to be a very memorable and pleasurable experience for us, even though driving to a gig without our axeman Chris for the first time in Krypteria's six year history felt somewhat odd.
"Nevertheless, the festival's organizers deserve high praise for setting up this amazing event in a spectacular setting while the entire Doro camp was super helpful and mega sweet as always. Due to logistical circumstances we even used Doro's backline this time which went smoothly as well.
"Thanks to the perfect conditions we were able to rock the enormous venue big time. Ji-In was her energetic self and won over the crowd, so we were able to not only enjoy the audience's fervent encore demands but also seize the opportunity to meet with the fans in a fun atmosphere.
"By the way, Chris' live substitute Olli Singer had an awesome debut...and following our performance we also found out that Olli not only is a wild thing on stage, but an aftershow party animal, too.
"Therefore we gladly give the entire Go to Gö experience a double thumbs up !!!"

Atreyu recently premeired their latest music video for "Lonely" online. The band comments on it:
"Veteran Atreyu video director Sean Stiegemeier successfully captured our antics while we were on the Taste of Chaos tour in Tokyo and Osaka Japan this winter. It's easily the most fun we've ever had shooting a video and it most definitely comes across in the footage and it mixes well with Seans brilliant time lapses and cinematography."
Indian metal band, Demonic Resurrection has signed to Candelight Records for the worldwide release of their new album "The Return To Darkness."
The band comments, "We've just completed a decade in music and we can't think of a better way to celebrate than to announce that we've signed with Candlelight Records for the worldwide release of our third album The Return to Darkness. In signing with Candlelight, we're joining a roster of bands that have been an integral part of our musical growth and we couldn't be prouder. We believe Candlelight is the right fit for our music and a label that completely respects our artistic integrity. We look forward to a longstanding relationship with them to take our music to the next level."
Given the tragic news posted earlier this week, it seemed not just fitting, but mandatory that this week we dedicate Sunday Old School to the memory of Petrus T. Ratajczyk, better known as Peter Steele, who passed away last Wednesday. Steele was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and was the founder of the infamous crossover thrash band Carnivore, before going to achieve massive success with Type O Negative. Before that however, he was in a band named Fallout which also featured Agnostic Front drummer Louie Beateaux and future Type O Negative keyboardist Josh Silver. Fallout only lasted three years and in such time only released one record, a single named "Rock Hard" which was limited to 500 copies.
Beateaux would go with Steele after the demise of Fallout to form the band Carnivore in 1982, with a self-titled debut album being released in January 1986. The album was exceptionally well received and praised for its unrelenting speed and tongue in cheek humour, along with spawning such great songs as "World Wars III & IV," "Male Supremacy" and the title track. A second album named "Retaliation" would be released the following year through Roadrunner Records, which was once again critically praised. "Retaliation" would prove to be the bands last album however, as they split up soon after.
From here, Steele formed the band he is perhaps best known for, Type O Negative, which although labelled as a gothic metal outfit, mixed in many aspects of doom and thrash metal. The group released their first album, "Slow, Deep and Hard" in 1991, using alot of material which was originally meant for Carnivore. The album received mixed reviews, though music historian Piero Scaruffi would go on to call it "the greatest heavy metal album of all time." Type O Negative followed this release with "The Origin Of The Feces" which was designed to sound like a live album, dubbing in audience noises, banter and even stopping a song because the "venue" had a bomb threat called in. The album was less well received than "Slow, Deep and Hard" but the band would achieve massive success with their next album, "Bloody Kisses," which eventually reached Platinum status, becoming the first album from Roadrunner Records to do so. The album featured the popular singles "Black No. 1" and "Christian Woman" along with the controversial "Kill All The White People" and "We Hate Everyone." The band released two more acclaimed albums in the form of "October Rust" in 1996 and "World Coming Down" in 1999 before releasing a compilation album entitled, "The Least Worst Of." The group released their last album for Roadrunner, "Life Is Killing Me" which featured much shorter songs than previous albums, with the exception of the 7 and a half minute, "How Could She?" which is essentially a list of female television characters. Jon Oliva’s Pain is the solo project of former Savatage vocalist Jon Oliva. While his former endeavors have stuck with the vocalist to this day, Oliva has shown over the years that Jon Oliva’s Pain isn’t just some random band that he plays with on the side. Oliva has released three albums so far with the band since its formation in 2003 and the band recently released their fourth album, “Festival,” featuring a return to more fantasy-based themes. I recently had the chance to speak to Oliva over the phone about the personal lyrical touch of “Festival,” his interesting habits at live shows and the filming of a live DVD in October. More...
