The pit: a convergence of metal heads and outlet for built-up aggression. Everybody’s got a pit story, and each week we share the favorites from metal musicians covering the entire spectrum of the underground and the mainstream.
A few weeks back vocalist Eric Dow of Helsott shared a story about Pantera stopping a show due to a lack of pit mayhem, and today Eric again gives a tale of pit shenanigans, but this time of a very different variety.
The following story comes from an interview at the 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise with our own writer CROMCarl, in which Eric discusses love birds getting swept away by the sexy tunes of Helloween.
Eric: I was in the pit and they weren’t doing very much moshing or anything, but they were dancing around, having a good time. It was a pretty good crowd. All the sudden, I hear ‘Uh [in a female voice], Uh [in a male voice]’ and I turn around and some dude is fucking this chick right behind me….in the pit! I’m like what the fuck!
CROMCarl: Who was on stage at the time?
Eric: Uh, Helloween.
CROMCarl: Remember what they were playing?
Eric: Uhhhhhh… No [laughs all around]. Ugh…if I can try to remem…no. The fucking thing really fucking threw me off. No, no, no….I remember! “If I Could Fly!” Andy Deris fucked it up, I remember that. He fucked it up…I got these guys fucking behind me…Andy Deris fucked it up and he just rolled his eyes on stage like “I can’t believe I fucked up our most simple song.” That was great.
They were in the back of the pit. It’s a smaller venue and I know there was probably at least five or six people having the same “what the fuck” reaction. I’ve never seen that before…I’ve seen sex at concerts in plenty of places, but right there in a small venue in the mosh pit. You know…the lights all hitting them and shit..and nobody…the security guards were maybe twenty feet from them…didn’t do anything. I was like “alright, this is fucking Santa Ana, California.”

NoiseArt Records adds, "We were stunned by the outstanding material the band has not only released themselves single-handedly, but has already been written for their debut album. Poland’s Antigama has disclosed the full details on pending full-length album, "Meteor," due out May 28th. The track listing and artwork are available below, and the following press release was issued about the album:
"Antigama's sixth studio full-length since forming in 2000, Meteor is the revered act’s first proper album since 2009’s acclaimed Warning, and following two LPs with Relapse Records, will see the band returning to longtime allies Selfmadegod Records, their first LP for the label since 2005’s innovative Zeroland.
"The recently completed composition Meteor once again proves all over again why the band continually reaps such accolades with the media fans as both one of the most brutal bands of the genre as well as one of the most cutting-edge. With eleven new tracks of primal Antigama annihilation, Meteor reverts back to some of the bands more intimately brutal early material with thirty minutes of ultra-tight grindcore explosiveness, yet continues to carry the band’s detrimentally inventive edge, integrating brief progressive soundtrack ventures and more noise and programming elements. "We’re doing a different kind of tour than last time. Last time some of the fans were disappointed because we were really promoting the last record and we didn’t do any of the really heavy songs. But this time we are doing is mish-mash of everything. I hope — I think it will be appreciated."

Deathpoint is the proud new addition to STM's roster and I'm grateful to be given the chance to stand behind their upcoming full length, Sinister."
Deathpoint previously released 2010 debut album "Fixation" and the 2011 follow-up EP "Suffer." The band has been steadily establishing itself in the Ontario metal scene performing alongside bands such as Divine Heresy, Moonspell, Blackguard, Threat Signal, The Agonist, and The Catalyst.
Deathpoint drummer Mike Labate comments on the signing: "We are very excited to sign with Spread The Metal records. We've put in a lot of hard work into making this record and building our name in and around the greater Hamilton area. Also, it is very exciting to work with a label whose key objective is the advance of the band with only success as the objective. Spanish thrash metal act Napalm Storm has signed a worldwide deal with Wormholedeath/Aural Music Group.
Wormholedeath will release debut album “Harmless Cruelty” worldwide through Aural Music Group. The album will be produced, recorded, and mixed at Realsound Studio (Italy) with producer Wahoomi Corvi (Crysalys, The Way Of Purity), during July of 2013. The release date will be announced soon both for Europe and Japan.
Napalm Storm comments: “It’s a great opportunity for us to record our first album with a label as WHD. Our philosophy is based on improving every aspect of the band, but sometimes if nobody capable to support you on distributing and promoting your work, all that effort is not rewarded at all. We think it’s important that our debut album breaks the borders of our country, as it will be heard by widest possible audience and will offer more touring. We hope this new trajectory is satisfactory for us, for the label and of course for our fans. “
A&R “Worm” also added: “We have been working closely with Napalm Storm for quite a long time now, so it’s time to announce their signing with our label. The guys sent us some really exciting and outstanding demos so we decided to support them with a full length album release. Napalm Storm are a really professional band and they deserve our attention. Get ready for the napalm blast they are preparing for all of you!” More...
Napalm Records has checked in with the following announcement about releasing the new album "Antiadore" from Lacrimas Profundere:
"A lot of bands have failed in the tricky undertaking to combine melancholy and heaviness, but not Lacrimas Profundere, who pull it off on 'Antiadore' without breaking a sweat. The band stayed true to their sombre roots on this album, but has elevated the characteristic sound to new heights. Thus, even exceeding their previous masterworks such as 'The Grandiose Nowhere' or 'Filthy Notes for Frozen Hearts.'
"'Antiadore' is heavy, melancholic, and touches upon the hidden feelings in the darkest corners of the soul. Ballads like 'Still In Need' or 'Head Held High' meet heavy breakers like 'Abandon' or the pounding 'What I´m Not.' The band revolving around Oliver Schmid presents itself with a newfound energy and offer their most diverse and mature album! Goth Rock enthusiasts will fall in love with 'Antiadore!' Goth N Roll!"
