Johannesburg deathcore band Bringing A Shark To A Gunfight is streaming all eight songs from its recent "Oceans" EP over on YouTube. Below is an upload of the track "A Beautiful Trigger Finger" you can watch as well. The band is currently looking for a new bass player to replace Tim Dell. BASTAGF has shared the stage with many South African bands, including Kill The Messenger, Enmity Where Martyrs Dare, Die The Betrayer, Unforsaken Truth and many more.
Since playing their debut gig to 700 strong crowd at the massive Purity Monster Party on 27 June 2009, BASTAGF has gone on to play multiple gigs in and around Johannesburg, as well as embarking on a mini-tour to Bloemfontein with fellow scene-mates The Dead Will Tell and Facing The Gallows, and touring the shores of Kwazulu Natal. In 2010 BASTAGF was bumped up to a headlining slot on the Friday at Thornfest the Camp. The band is currently looking at playing at the Oppikoppi Festival in August.
Italian death metal band Antropofagus is streaming another new song from its new album "Architecture of Lust," which will see its debut on April 17th on Comatose Music. This will be the band's first new material in a decade. A stream for the new track "Blessing Upon My Redemption" is available by going over to Gun Shy Assassin. The band had the following excerpts to say about its new material:
“This album is like a beast closed in a cage for so much time,” explains guitarist Meatgrinder. “Finally it can be unleashed with its majestic power. The skills of the most modern brutal metal meets perfectly classic death metal: it’s a perfect balance.” “This is upsetting and sick…a trip without return,” warns singer Tya. “We wanted to keep alive our style, but at the same time trying a way a little bit more ‘elegant’ compared to the past.”
Finnish lo-fi sludge band Usko is streaming its recent three song EP "Kuusi" over on Bandcamp, or you may listen to it in the player below. Usko has been around since 2006 and plays primitive and nihilistic music that utilizes sound bites and two bass guitars. "Kuusi" was released earlier this year in tape form on the band's label Penny Whistles and Moon Pies. The whole recording was done live, giving it an unrehearsed garage feel.
After previously releasing a video clip for "HUL2H" (How You Love to Hate), one woman pop/metal act The Union has now released another music video online. Check out the clip for "Devil's Doll" in the player below. You can also find more details on The Union over at the band's Facebook profile.

Baroness, the Savannah-based quartet whose two prior releases ("Red Album" and "Blue Record") were awarded record of the year honors from both Revolver and Decibel Magazines as well as repeatedly placing on year-end best of lists from Pitchfork and Village Voice, return with a new album titled "Yellow & Green" on July 17th via Relapse Records.
"Yellow & Green" reunites Baroness with "Blue Record" producer John Congleton (Explosions in the Sky, St. Vincent, Xiu Xiu) following both the band's busiest period with multiple worldwide tours including stops at Coachella, Bonnaroo and Soundwave and most luxurious year, having taken nearly all of 2011 off to freely write and demo for the 2CD/LP album.
"We had been on tour for eight years, and we decided to take a break from our adventure to dig our heels in at home and write a new record," explains John Baizley, front man for the band and the artist responsible for Baroness' now iconic album art (an article profiling Baizley as a graphic artist is in the April edition of Juxtapoz). "We spent the entirety of the past year dedicating ourselves to the new album. without the break from touring and the time we took to rest and reflect, we would have been entirely unable to write this new record. we have become re-inspired. now it's time to get back out on the road." Avatar, the band that brought you the gut wrenching side show video for "Black Waltz" has premiered another clip for the new single "Torn Apart" today via Fearnet.com. Check out the video here or in the player below.
Lead singer Johannes Eckerström commented: "If all violence was as in professional wrestling, I would get involved in way more fights. Hulk Hogan was one of my first heroes and made me want to spend my life doing insane things and be applauded for it. Backyard wrestling is not exactly a household expression here in Sweden, but on my street we went insane. I could pull off an awesome suplex by the age of nine.
"Standing on that tiny stage while our audience threw each other through tables was a rush and pretty much the best form of mosh pit I've ever experienced. They made it look awesome and the context we put it in made it truly epic. We're not really supposed to afford making a music video this cool, but once again we've proven what's possible when you realize your potential and make the most you possibly can of it. When life gives you lemonade, punch life in the face." More...
MetalSucks.net has snagged an exclusive interview with Ihsahn in regards to his upcoming new album "Eremita," which is set for release on June 19th in North America. Snippets from the interview follow, in which Ihsahn discusses his fourth solo album and the guest musicians who make appearances on the upcoming release. You can also find a recently posted teaser trailer for the album at this location.
MetalSucks: I know you worked with Jeff Loomis, Devin Townsend, Tobias Henderson, Jørgen Munkeby, Einar Solberg, and Heidi Tveitan. That’s a lot of people. How did coordinating everything work out?
Ihsahn: To be honest, it’s been very, very easy. Tobias and Einar are both are in my live band, so it was very natural for me to bring them along. Tobias plays for the whole record so he’s kind of the biggest contributor, whereas Einar only sings clean vocals on one song. As for Jørgen Munkeby – the second biggest contributor — he did some demos on top of my rough mixes. He lives just two hours away, so he came to our studio and recorded the rest here and kind of put it together. As for Jeff and Devin, I had the privilege of them asking me to do vocals on their records so it was easy to ask them [to do vocals on mine]. They got tapes and instructions or files from me, recorded their parts, and sent them back, and then I sent them to my system here.
Metal Sucks: I wanted to talk a little bit about the album cover. You used an upside-down photo of Nietzsche. How much is that tied into the music? More...

Canadian act The Great Sabatini has checked in with the following update about posting a new video clip online and posting an EP online for streaming:
"We've been sleeping on the newsletter thing... so much for regularity. Our excuse is a good one though... We've been busy chopping heads and throwing maidens over our shoulders, aka promoting our newest releases Matterhorn and The Royal We with our first string of dates around North America. Here's what else is new.
"The Mattehorn vinyl is still on the way. It's a bummer that we didn't have these in time for the dates in March but I'd rather not have them than have crappy sounding versions of them... the test pressings revealed some unwanted noises but this problem is being fixed. We will let all of you preorder people know as soon as we have the records and they are off to shipping. In the meantime, if you're so inclined, you can get a download of the album here or order the cdr (nicely put together by our concubines in the basement) from here.
"Our new EP, called The Royal We is available from our Bandcamp page or the No List Records Website, totally FREE. If you like this offering, please send it around and spread the word... the songs on there are our newest, freshest hymns to the Beast.
"Even though the record came out a year ago at this point, we have finally completed our video trilogy for the Napoleon Sodomit EP. We shot all the footage in October 2011 but preparations for birthing our 2 newest records and going out on tour in March kinda put the editing on timeout for a while. But here it is, a kind of low (meaning NO) budget short film comprised of all 3 songs from the Napoleon Sodomite record which makes little sense, but was a lot of fun to put together. Share the link for the video if you will, as we put a ton of hard work into writing, conceptualising, shooting and editing this fucking atrocity. More...

When looking at the El Salvador metal scene, it is shocking coming to the realization that a country this small has close to ninety metal bands. Two of the ones I have unearthed today are not even in the Encyclopaedia Metallum archives, which shows how fast the scene is still growing. He recently appeared at the Maaskab Open Air and other festivals in his wheelchair, to the chants of all the concert goers.
