"After much consideration and many qualified applicants we have come to a decision on a new guitar player. We have chosen Rick Van Zandt."

"Rick brings a whole new level of playing to Metal Church and we are all glad to have him and we are sure you, the fans will be as well. Get ready for some shredding! The new album really kicks some metal ass, every band says that but we mean it!!"

The bands new album will be lyrically based on their tell all book "The Dirt".
An official description of the video is shown below:
"Saints Of Los Angeles" is the lead single off of the first full length album from all four original members of Mötley Crüe in over a decade. This hook-laden, thunderous rock song harkens back to the band's heyday and again proves Mötley Crüe is among an elite group of Rock Royalty. Also featured, fellow Crüe Fest artists Josh Todd (Buckcherry), Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach), Chris Brown (Trapt) and James Michael (SIXX:A.M.)." More...
Metalunderground.com has been announced as a sponsor for the Rock Against Diabetes event, taking place in Las Vegas at the Deep Rock Drive venue on August 23rd, 2008. The event will be hosted by L.A. music promoter/Club Manager and the infamous and notorious winner of Big Brother 8, "Evel" Dick Donato. The fundraising concert's line-up currently consists of Y&T, LA Guns, Faster Pussycat, Cliff Morrison and The Lizard Sun Band, Eric Martin (of Mr. Big fame), and Bang Tango, with the possibility of more bands to be added. Proceeds from the event and related auctions will go to raise awareness of diabetes, educate diabetics on mitigating the effects of the disease with proper nutrition, and to help fund a facility in Abbotsford, BC, where this technology will be put to the test by using the information provided to actually prepare and deliver the food to diabetics in the area that are new to the disease, or incapable to prepare or afford the necessary foods.
While the bands on Rock Against Diabetes may not be the favorites to the majority of our readership, they represent some well-known names from the 80s metal scene. Moreover, the event represents a good cause, and I'm proud to be involved with spreading the word about the Rock Against Diabetes benefit concert. Diabetes affects millions of people and even if not directly affected, nearly everyone knows someone who has been affected directly or indirectly by diabetes. Several of the staff on Metalunderground.com have been affected to various degrees.
Ellie Timms, a freelance photographer and journalist who will be covering the event for Metalunderground.com, is a diabetic herself and has been deeply affected by the disease. Discussing the importance of the event, Ellie commented: "Being a diabetic and coming from a family of diabetics, I know the harsh reality of how diabetes can and will slowly kill you if you're not given the proper education and treatment. Rock Against Diabetes is fighting for world-wide awareness that education, nutrition, exercise and research can forever change and give quality of life to diabetics. WE DO NOT HAVE TO DIE!"
So help us spread the word about this event and make it as big a success as it can be!
The following press release has been issued:
Following last year’s release of HIRAX’s highly acclaimed EP Assassins Of War, the Long Beach thrashers have recorded six new songs with producer John Haddad for their upcoming album, El Rostro de la Muerte. This will be the band’s first full-length since the 2004 release The New Age Of Terror. The album will also include re-recordings of classic Hirax tracks 'Broken Neck' and 'Blind Faith' as well as the bonus track 'Chaos And Brutality' from the European EP released last year.
“Some of the song titles are inspired by the religious fanatics in the United States and the hypocrisy surrounding church and state,” said Hirax vocalist Katon W. De Pena. “There are tracks which deal with morals of mankind, and there is a bit of war influence; naturally, because there is so much of it still going on all over the world. There are a lot of dark subjects on this new album as well, which reflects the overall concept of the music. The title of the album is El Rostro de la Muerte, which in Spanish means The Face of Death. I have no doubt in my mind that this will be our heaviest and most intense record to date!!”
Hirax is in the process of writing of five more songs that will be recorded after their return from an appearance at the Long Live Metal Festival in France on May 10. El Rostro De La Muerte is expected to be released in August 2008 on Black Devil Records and Deep Six Records.
“It has been a great writing process so far, but a lot of hard work,” said De Pena. “Steve, Fabricio and I are very involved in the overall process of compiling and putting the songs together. The guitarists Lance and Glenn have been writing a LOT of riffs for us to choose from. We are only keeping the best and throwing out anything that just does not fit in with what we are trying to create musically. We are being very picky because we want the album to be the best that it can be. “
Coinciding with the full-length release, Hirax will expand the resurging thrash metal brotherhood by collaborating on 3 split 7 inches – Sweden’s F.K.U., Crucifer from Greece and the Malaysian crossover maniacs Sarjan Hassan. The three Hirax tracks will be 'Satan’s Fall', 'Baptized By Fire', and 'Death Militia' respectively. All three 7 inches will be released on Black Devil Records. More...
DEATH ANGEL’s video for "Dethroned," a track off their latest album, "Killing Season," will debut online on Thursday, April 17th on Headbangers Blog and on-air on MTV2's Headbangers Ball this Saturday, April 19th at 11 p.m. EASTERN / 8 p.m. PACIFIC.
Director/producer Robert Sexton had this to say about his ties to DEATH ANGEL and how the gig practically landed in his lap:
“I’m excited about this video and I think D.A. fans are going to go nuts for it. It’s a great song and there are a lot of layers to the story and to the visuals. There’s something new to see every time you watch it, and DEATH ANGEL’s performance decimates. My band Genocide opened for DEATH ANGEL at an all-ages show in a Masonic Hall in Grand Haven, Michigan in the late ‘80s. Years later, I ran into Mark Osegueda at an absinthe party at Kirk Hammett’s house in San Francisco. Mark informed me that DEATH ANGEL were doing their new album, and I asked to be put in the mix to direct the video. Keep your eyes open for the ‘unclean’ edit that’s bound to surface somewhere… and keep watching the skies.”
DEATH ANGEL will launch a North American co-headlining “In Thrash We Trust” tour with God Forbid on May 1st in Michigan, with support coming from Soilent Green and Light This City. The band’s first tour since 1990, guitarist Rob Cavestany says, “We couldn’t be more stoked! ‘In Thrash We Trust’ will be our first full-blown tour since we hit the road for Act III eighteen years ago and we are gonna bring it! ‘Killing Season’ has begun!!!”
Unstable Ground will be premiering the long-awaited documentary Working Class Rock Star in Toronto, Ontario at the Bloor Cinema on June 9.
Working Class Rock Star follows the lives of three bands at different points in their musical careers; Tub Ring (Chicago, IL), Bloodshoteye (Leamington, ON), and 3 Mile Scream (Montreal, QC). The documentary features interviews with Lamb of God, Strapping Young Lad, GWAR, Unearth, The Haunted, Arch Enemy, and more.
Following the film, Inertia Entertainment will co-host a concert featuring Polkadot Cadaver (ex-members of Dog Fashion Disco), Bloodshoteye, and No Assembly Required at the Annex Wreck Room, 794 Bathurst St., Toronto. Doors at 9PM.
The rock ‘n’ roll rebel Ted Nugent is the latest artist confirmed to perform at the spectacular Magic Circle Festival 2008 in Bad Arolsen, Germany. Ted Nugent joins an impressive lineup that includes heavy metal powerhouses Alice Cooper, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, WASP, Doro, Brazen Abbot (featuring Joe Lynn Turner), HolyHell, Gotthard and many more, with the mighty MANOWAR headlining the whole festival and celebrating the 20th anniversary of “The Kings of Metal.”
Two days of music was not enough to contain such an impressive lineup, so a third full day of music has been added to the Magic Circle Festival at no additional charge. “Magic Circle Music is all about value for the fans, and three nights at the original price is the best way we could think of to add to that value,” says Magic Circle Music founder and MANOWAR bassist Joey DeMaio. The Magic Circle festival will begin on Wednesday, July 9 with opening ceremonies, followed by three days of music on Thursday, July 10 with Alice Cooper appearing as very special guest, Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12
Tickets for the Magic Circle Festival are available now at www.magiccirclefestival.com, www.nuclearblast.de, www.ticketsonline.de, www.eventim.de, www.ticketagenten.de.

"We Are the Nightmare", the new video from the Virginia-based technical death metal outfit ARSIS, can be viewed here. A second (animated) version of the clip is currently in the works and will see the light of day in the next few weeks. The song is the title track of the group's new labum, which was released on April 15 through Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was produced by Zeuss (AGNOSTIC FRONT, HATEBREED, MUNICIPAL WASTE) at Planet Z Studios in Massachusetts and was mastered by Alan Douches (KATAKLYSM, UNEARTH, SHADOWS FALL).
"We Are The Nightmare" was released with a bonus 45-minute DVD that includes the band's time in the studio, off-stage antics, and some general goofing around. Guitarist/lead vocalist James Malone states: "I can honestly say that this was the best recording experience that I have had in my years with ARSIS. Not only was Zeuss great to work with, but Ryan (Knight, guitarist), Darren (Cesca, drummer), and Noah (Martin, bassist) all did an outstanding job. We all worked together to create what I feel is the most accomplished ARSIS album to date. I can still listen to the songs, and that's a good sign." More...

System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian, Wu-Tang Clan founder The RZA, Kinetic 9 (aka Beretta 9 from Killarmy), and up-and-comer, the Reverend William Burke from Chicago, have formed a musical alliance, Achozen, and have just finished recording their self-titled debut album which is expected out this summer. Plans are to release the album on Shavo's own online digital label urSESSION, with plans to tour this summer in support of the album's release.
Achozen's mantra is "Many shall come, only a few shall be Achozen," and the four principal members feel that their unique sound is not only spiritual in nature, but a new genre of "heavy hip hop," not "rap-metal." There are no heavy guitars on the album, but the sound is genre-blending.
Most of the "Achozen" album was recorded at one of Shavo's two studios and produced by the Grammy-winning musician. The bulk the beats were created by Shavo (only one or two samples were used on the entire record) who also played live instruments throughout, including bass and sitar. The RZA, who contributed his share of beats, Kinetic 9 and the Reverend William Burke handle all of the vocals and lyrics, which are, according to Shavo, "some of the most innovative, poetic and righteous words and vocals that I've ever heard."
Achozen's debut also features an eclectic and impressive array of guest performers that includes George Clinton, Red Hot Chili Peppers' guitar-god John Frusciante, Wu-Tang affiliate Killah Priest, Wu-Tang founding member GZA, emcee Sick Jacken from Psycho Realm, and Angolin rapper Leggezin Fin are all on the album.
Song titles are still being mulled over, but the track "Deuces" will make its online premier at urSESSION.com on Tuesday, 4/22 at 4:22PM PDT.
Guitarist Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström of the Swedish death metal "supergroup" BLOODBATH has issued the following update:
"BLOODBATH just spent the last week at Park Studio in Stockholm where Axe [drummer Martin 'Axe' Axenrot] put down an (un)healthy doze of all the basic ingredients and more to get this death metal monster meal cooking in hell's oven. We're talking classic old-school skin-pounding, furious blast beats, double-bass drums, all kinds of tempos and a heavy load of killer fills, yeah you name it… This time it turned out to be 11 brand new songs on the menu for the band's still-untitled third album."
"So what direction does the material take this time? Well, it's definately taking off where we left with 'Unblessing The Purity'. The material represents nothing but hateful brutality, so there's surely a lot of speed countered with heavy groove. Riff-wise, we're playing a lot with dissonant harmonies for that feverish possessed feeling, but we also brought back the whole melodic yet haunting 'bee-swarming' theme concept from the past albums to represent the classic sound, so there's definately gonna be a good deal of variety on here which we hope to pack together in the most crushing production yet." Prosthetic Records has announced the addition of Seattle’s death/black metallers BOOK OF BLACK EARTH to the label’s roster. Catching the label’s eye while on a West Coast tour with future labelmates The Funeral Pyre in late 2007, BOOK OF BLACK EARTH consists of members of venerable metal underground band Teen Cthulhu, and are currently in the process of writing material for the band’s second full-length, having already released a self-financed demo in 2004, a split release with underground legends Fall Of The Bastards in 2005, and 2006’s "The Feast," which received praise from Decibel magazine, Terrorizer magazine, and the band’s hometown newspaper, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
"We are all very excited to work with Prosthetic Records and the people behind it, we feel like this is a good step for us as a band and a good home,” drummer Joe Axler says. “BOBE is currently finishing writing for our Prosthetic debut which will be titled 'Horoskopus,' and entering The Red Room Studios in Seattle this week to start tracking with producer / engineer Chris Common (Mouth of the Architect, These Arms Are Snakes). This is by far our most technical, heavy and challenging set of songs to date. It’s definitely pushing the envelope for us, which we stand behind, and will make this record the most brutal one we have written."
"‘Horoskopus’ is a concept album about the hidden astrological elements of the Christian church,” vocalist / guitarist T.J. Cowgill adds. “From its origins as a state sponsored religion in the fourth century to the present day, it has been guided by astrological concepts conceived centuries before Jesus Christ was mythologized as the ‘Sun’ of God."

Sirenia issue the following update on their website:
"Sirenia is finally ready to introduce their new female singer. Ailyn - Born 1982 in Barcelona, now settled in Granada, Spain. Ailyn has been strongly attached to music all her life, and began singing at an early age. Later on she studied singing at The School of Music Albéniz, and obtained singing lessons with several singing teachers around Spain. In the past she’s been singing and performing all kinds of styles and genres, but in 2004 she discovered the sounds of metal combined with atmospheric and classical elements, this style of music made a big impression and she knew right away in which direction she wanted to take her career. Sirenia has done pre-productions of several new songs and recognizes that Ailyn’s voice match perfectly with the new songmaterial. The band is very pleased to have Ailyn onboard and we all look forward to a future collaboration."
A picture of Ailyn can be viewed here.
From Autumn To Ashes will release a live album in mid-June. The material was recorded at a January performance at Looney Tunes record store in Long Island, NY. The group has issued the following:
"The live album will be available pretty much everywhere. At first we were only going to press a couple hundred copies for the people who were at the record store that night, but we are really proud of how good it came out and we would like to share it with everyone. Thats why this has been delayed for a while. It takes time to get it set up as a wide release. I don't know what the exact release date will be yet, but it should be in the middle of June. You people that were at the record store will most likely get your copy sooner."
