Featuring Ozzy Osbourne's first new studio material in six years, his latest album entitled "Black Rain" is due out May 22 on Epic Records. OZZY co-produced the album with Kevin Churko and recorded it with his touring band: Zakk Wylde (guitar), Mike Bordin (drums) and Blasko (bass). OZZY says that he felt a new freedom while recording the album at his home studio in Los Angeles. The result: songs that are not only hard-hitting but adventurously arranged and sonically fresh. Explains OZZY, "It's a well-put together album. I think it's evident that it hasn't been just slapped out and put down. I took my time on the album and Zakk [Wylde] plays some amazing stuff as always." OZZY feels BLACK RAIN is the true follow-up to his classic No More Tears, the 1991 album that also challenged the expectations of what an OZZY OSBOURNE album should sound like.
Some of the songs on BLACK RAIN are ominous in their emotional tone--they examine a world teeming with greed, war, deception, bad drugs ("11 Silver," about crystal meth) and environmental havoc. OZZY also zooms in on the overriding sense of fear and dread that define our times--perpetrated, he feels, by news programs that make "entertainment" out of terrible news events.
Says OZZY: "I just thought there's so much fucking bad news, the only way I can release it is to put it in a song." On the other hand, the new track "Civilize The Universe" offers a sense of hope, as OZZY sings: "I'm alive/Watching better turn to worse/One more time/Try to civilize the universe."
OZZY will support BLACK RAIN with a world tour beginning in Moscow on May 27 which continues through July 6. Then starting July 12 in Seattle, he'll headline the 12th annual OZZFEST tour throughout America.
The pioneer and trendsetter has pulled the plug on ticket prices in America and given the power back to the fans, calling this summer's OZZFEST "FreeFest." That's right, this year's OZZFEST is entirely free for fans, an unprecedented move for an artist and tour of this stature.
On that note, look out for specially marked copies of "Black Rain" will be available at participating retailers on May 22. Fans will use the code found in the CD's packaging when they log onto ozzfest.com to redeem two tickets. This code will enable OZZY fans to go to livenation.com ozzfest and have the first chance at OZZFEST tickets beginning Friday, June 8, at 9:00 PM (ET) and prior to June 12 when tickets will be available to the general public--exactly one month before the first OZZFEST 2007 show in Seattle at the White River Amphitheatre.
OZZY is being honored in May on VH-1's "Rock Honors" telecast. He will perform three songs on the broadcast including a track from BLACK RAIN. Premiering on Thursday, May 24 at 9:00 PM ET/PT, "VH1 Rock Honors," will be taped at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 12.
You can log onto ozzy.com to hear samples of tracks from the album or check out the first single "I Don't Wanna Stop" on Ozzy's MySpace page.
Just For Fun
One of the few humor sites I read, Drivl.com, has an excellent guide on how to be "scene" that I think our readers can appreciate. And by appreciate, I mean make fun of. Here's a short excerpt:
"First and foremost, your AIM/MSN screen name should be some rad song title and/or lyric. Remember, the more x's you have in it, the more scene you are."
"Next, go buy yourself some girl's jeans. Face it, the tighter your jeans are, the more scene you will be, and the more the hardcore kids will hate you for it. Try on a pair of jeans and find that you're a perfect woman's 2? Buy a woman's 0 and suck it in."

After a lengthy hiatus NYHC heavyweights Billy Club Sandwich are back in action. Their first show will be the Superbowl of Hardcore in Brooklyn, NY on May 19 with All Out War, Darkside NYC, Full Blown Chaos, and fucking Cold As Life. The Rock Radio reports that Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash told Chilean magazine Rock & Pop this week that while the band is still playing songs from Guns N' Roses and Stone Temple Pilots during its current run of South American shows, it plans to drop those numbers from its set list later this year. Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum were all in G N' R, while singer Scott Weiland previously fronted STP. Velvet Revolver will likely abandon playing tunes from those bands as it incorporates new material from its upcoming Libertad album into the live show.
Slash said that the old Guns and STP tracks are in the set for now because Velvet Revolver has never played South America before.
Libertad, Velvet Revolver's second album, has had its release pushed back from early June to later that month. The CD's tentative first single is called "She Builds Quick Machines."
Duff McKagan said in a recent interview with Kerrang! magazine that the group had a hard time starting work on Libertad after a vacation of several months. He explained, "It was really, really tough getting us back together into a place where our headspace was right to be able to start a new record. We were all pretty fragmented...It took us a while to get back to where we were feeling good, and we finally got that back last July and August."
Velvet Revolver will launch an 11-date U.S. trek on May 4th at the House of Blues in Los Angeles.
There is another new live video of SEEMLESS available for viewing at the Underground Video Television website. This clip is for the band’s track “Cast No Shadow” and was filmed in Syracuse NY at The Country Club during a show that also featured Century Media recording artists BRAND NEW SIN who are currently on tour with TYPE O NEGATIVE and CELTIC FROST.
SEEMLESS’ song “Cast No Shadow” is from the band’s critically acclaimed new album, "What Have We Become" (Equal Vision records) for which there is also a music video directed by Ramon Boutviseth available for viewing which was filmed in a dimly-lit Massachusetts carriage house which alternates between powerful performance footage of the band and a gripping narrative that portrays "inner struggle and the turmoil of weakness". SEEMLESS is currently on a North American tour with FU MANCHU throughout April and May.

DYING FETUS has debuted the first video from their brand new album "War of Attrition", for the track "Homicidal Retribution", exclusively at www.singingfool.com.
The "Homicidal Retribution" video was lensed by director Frankie Nasso (MUDVAYNE, HATEBREED, ALL THAT REMAINS) and producer Kim Resteghini for Raging Nation Films (TRIVIUM, SHADOWS FALL, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, UNEARTH) at Philadelphia's historic Eastern State Penitentiary. The video's premise is that of an accused man spending a life-time in prison. Photos from the shoot can be viewed here. "Homicidal Retribution" can also be heard via the "War of Attrition" media player.
In other news, DYING FETUS has added more dates to their previously announced headlining tours in support of "War of Attrition". This trek includes an appearance at the renowned New England Metal and Hardcore Festival and two rare headlining shows in addition to performances alongside such acclaimed acts as Cannibal Corpse, Dimmu Borgir and Unearth, among others. BEHEMOTH recently completed work on their most ambitious and epic offering yet, The Apostasy, which was recorded in the band's hometown of Gdansk with Nergal (vocals, guitars) and longtime sound engineer Malta in the producers' chairs. The effort was mixed with the acclaimed Daniel Bergstrand (In Flames, Meshuggah, SYL) at Dugout Studios in Sweden and mastered by Bjorn Engelmann (Rammstein). The highly anticipated offering is set for a July release.
With renewed vigor and a fiery new frontman, Finnish cult icons FINNTROLL crawl up from their clammy cavern clutching their fifth full-length Ur Jordens Djup, which is set for an April 24th release (Century Media Records).

Baltimore's Pulling Teeth has officially signed with Deathwish Inc. Featuring former members of Slumlords and Desperate Measures, among others, the hardcore/metal band released an album with Chainsaw Safety Records late last year. AUTUMN TEARS new album, The Hallowing, is out now via Dark Symphonies and features the following tracks: 'Dies Irae', 'Keep Me Here', 'Spirit', 'A Joyless Occasion', 'Thrush And Wake', 'Yearning For The Tide', 'The Funeral Bazaar', 'Canticle', 'The Last King Falls', 'The Hallowing'.
According to a press release, "after a decade evolving, the band has finally shed its shell of neoclassical, darkwave and gothic sound, in place of a more traditional classical and chamber music style. Drawing influences from such masters as Bach, Brahms, Hayden, Mahler and a host of others, Autumn Tears boasts rich and diverse musical arrangements based on music theory. In place of the usual keyboards and samples, The Hallowing employs fully live, authentic classical instrumentation including a live string section, woodwinds, oboe, french horn and haunting, operatic vocals. As this will be the last Autumn Tears album, it will be strictly limited to 1000 copies worldwide. Due to the extensive recording budget and the limited number of CDs being manufactured, the price for this album will be $10. For sound samples visit www.myspace.com/thetrueautumntears." More...

We wrote an album that we wanted to play live well into the distant future. If there is one word to describe our new record, it is "aggressive". We want this album to have a certain effect on the listener. I am happy with what we have achieved, and I hope our fans appreciate it too."
Vocalist Jonny Davy states, "We wrote the material that became the "Doom" EP at a very young age and the sound of this upcoming record is a much different one than anything we've done before. We're anxious for its release and we hope everyone who hears it will enjoy."
