Avulsed Drummer Hospitalized

Longtime Spanish death metallers AVULSED have issued the following update:

"Yesterday night, our drummer Ricky suffered a loss of conscious and once in the hospital he remained in the Intensive Care Unit. It seems like he suffered a small brain stroke or something like that. this is, one of the veins was broken and some blood was spilled, so he need some surgery to take that blood out.

"At this point we don't know much about it, since he liked 200 km away, and this is the information provided to us by his girlfriend, but what it's sure is that we'll have to cancel the Avulsed performance at the Delirium Festival that's taking place near Paris, France) next Saturday, April 19th of. Also, right now we're not sure if we'll be able to perform at the Underground Metal Fest in Lyon (France) next Saturday, April 26th of as well. We still have to see how Ricky develops from this and then we'll see, although this really doesn't depend on us.

"We're very sorry for not being able to perform at the Delirium Festival on which Avulsed was the headliner sharing the bill with quite some cool bands like HACRIDE, NO RETURN, DEGRADEAD, EMBRYONIC CELLS, HYSTHERESY, E-VICE. We hope our fans and the organizers will understand us in this critical situation and we really hope to play at next year's edition of the festival."

De Profundis Sign with Holy Records

London-based dark metal band DE PROFUNDIS has signed a deal with HOLY RECORDS for distribution of their debut album "Beyond Redemption" in France. The album was recorded and mixed by Steve Watkins at Warehouse Studios, Oxford and was mastered by Tim Turan, who has worked with such artists as OPETH, EMPEROR, DIMMU BORGIR and AT THE GATES.

DE PROFUNDIS's progressive approach to extreme metal has won praise with reviewers. Reviews for "Beyond Redemption" have been uniformly positive, with Chris Davison of live4metal.com calling it "engaging, atmospheric and supremely intelligent music... Unmissable throughout." Building on the traditionally crushing and eternally despairing sound of doom metal, DE PROFUNDIS has many genre-defying and unique touches to its sound, such as jazz-funk slap bass, black metal blast-beats and complex compositional arrangements featuring technical guitar solos. DE PROFUNDIS also boasts an original logo by none other than the black metal legend Christophe Szpajdel.

The deal with HOLY RECORDS culminates what has been an extremely productive 6 months since DE PROFUNDIS released its debut album in August 2007. It comes in addition to the USA distribution deal the band has secured with BANEFUL GENESIS DISTRIBUTION. More...

Moria Breaking Up, Plans Final Shows

California metal/hardcore outfit Moria is apparently breaking up. Here's a statement from Vocalist Taylor Young:

"Five years ago we started Moria with the intention to make music, hang out with friends and play shows. We had no expectations of touring or even releasing an album. But as time went by our hard work and dedication brought this band far beyond anything we had dreamed. We got to tour the country multiple times, meet tons of awesome people, and leave our mark on the music scene with our full length No Light Ahead.

"However, It's become increasingly harder to maintain Moria at the level it's at, balancing school, work, and touring. We came to the conclusion that we needed to drop everything and start touring full time or stop touring all together. Since Keith and myself are both in college and only have a few years left we elected that no touring would have to be the choice. Along with that, a few of us are happy with our positions at our jobs and are tired of having to quit and find new jobs every few months after we get back from tour. Most of us have had the best times of our lives while on tour, but some times it gets to the point that you need to make a decision to dedicate yourself to one thing or the other. After this decision we also figured it would be best to just end the band. We'd much rather stop while we're some what ahead rather than just fizzle out slowly.

"For some of us, this has been our lives the last five years. We will all miss the good times, road trips and tours. But at the same time we couldn't be happier with this band going far beyond what we had intended. A few of us will be starting a little less serious project while James is going on to play bass in Molotov Solution. Most importantly we want to thank anyone who has ever bought merch, gone to a show, let us stay at their house, booked a show, fed us or supported us in any way. We have a few last shows leading up to our final Show in Salinas on June 28th, if you live anywhere close to these areas please come and hang out one last time, thanks again!"

Here are Moria's final shows planned:

4/19 Whittier, CA @ The Green Turtle w/ Antagonist
4/20 Bakersfield, CA @ The Dome w/ Dragon Lord, Antagonist, Light This City
5/30 Santa Cruz, CA @ The 418 Project w/ The Final Burden
6/28 Salinas, CA @ Jump n' Around w/ AGATG, Antagonist
