Southern California thrashers Bonded By Blood have announced the friendly departure of Alex Lee (guitar) and Jerry Garcia (bass). Brandon Gullin (Avenger of Blood) and Ben Bennet (Warbringer) will fill in the vacated spots on the band's upcoming North American tour supporting Sepultura.
Carlos Regalado, Juan Juarez and Mauro Gonzalez, Bonded By Blood's remaining members, have released the following statement:
"Bonded By Blood has gone through so many changes in the last couple of years while playing amazing festivals, touring the entire United States, Europe and Canada dozens of times, and enjoying the time with new and old friends and fans all over the world who mean the most to us. We first lost our original bass player, Ruben Dominguez back in 2009, then singer Jose Barrales left the band in 2010, but each was replaced with new members and the group marched on. Now, we regret to announce that Alex Lee (guitar) and Jerry Garcia (bass) are also stepping away from BBB. We will miss them just as much as we miss Ruben and Jose, and this band will not be the same without them, but the three of us that are left in Bonded By Blood hope that everyone who enjoys this band can understand that changes are inevitable. As much as we want to keep an 'original line-up', things happen that you just can't control.
"We hope all our friends, fans and fellow musicians can still give us the warm welcome we always received and still support us in these hard times while we rebuild the band as we all need all the support we can get. Thankfully, some new friends stepped up and are working hard to help us do the Sepultura tour, so big thanks to Ben Bennet (from Smog and formerly Warbringer) and Brandon Gulling (of Malus Rex and the recently reformed Avenger of Blood), who will be filling in on bass and rhythm guitar respectively while we keep together what is left of Bonded By Blood. We hope to see you all on the road again; it's not going to be the same without our old friends up there with us... But shit happens."
Alex Lee comments on leaving Bonded By Blood:
"With Jose leaving the band followed by my own parting, I want to assure you all that it is not a coincidence, nor is it a fluke. Being a guitarist, I have always been interested in playing other styles of music and not only thrash. Don't get me wrong, I love my thrash music, but I honestly see myself being suited better with another band or type of music than what I have been doing with Bonded By Blood. It has been one of the hardest decisions of my life, due to the fact that this was the first band that I was in or established, but now I feel that it's my time to move on and to continue my progress on a new path. I wish Bonded the best of luck and I know they can succeed. As for the fans, I know they won't truly understand, they can either hate me or follow me, but I hope they will continue listening to and seeing Bonded live, for I believe that they will hold strong for years to come. You guys were the best and thanks for the great years!"
Jerry Garcia reflects on his time with Bonded By Blood and his exit:
"Being part of Bonded By Blood for almost two years now has been the best experience of my life. I've seen and done things that I could have only dreamed of. I had the honor of sharing the stage with some of the most talented musicians in the world, including the ones in my band. Everything I experienced will be something that I will cherish for a lifetime. However, as time goes by and life begins to unfold, certain things begin to become very evident and downright inevitable. Bonded By Blood is more than just a band, it's a spirit and it transcends any single individual person or band member.
"I want to thank each and every single one of you that ever supported me and the guys in doing what we do best in life, and that is music. There is no better feeling in the world than to bring happiness to someone through music. It is an incredibly humbling experience that I never took for granted. I am not sad, nor am I disappointed in my departure from the band. I see it as a fresh start to another chapter in my random life. As for me... Well, I'll be around - music is something that is essential to my life. I cherished the good, learned from the bad and realized that in life, 'the only constant is change'.
"One last thank you to everyone that showed me kindness on and off the road, so thanks to Juan, Carlos, Alex, Mauro, Marco, Talita and the rest of the Earache gang including Anthony, every band I toured with, and most of all the fans! See ya!"

Today, Metalunderground.com released a twelve track tribute album to honor the memory of Gothic metal legend Peter Steele, who died last year. Each of the bands on the tribute represent some of the most promising and engaging aspects of the underground, and Argentina based act Auvernia is no exception.
Putting their own spin on Type O Negative's iconic style, the duo that composes Auvernia translated "I Don't Wanna Be Me" into a power metal opus that kicks off "All For None, None For All: A Tribute To Peter Steele." Below you can find an explanation from vocalist Fernando H. Varela about how the band chose to arrange the song and when he was first exposed to Type O Negative with "Bloody Kisses."
Former Mnemic bassist Tomas Koefoed has posted the following statement online, announcing his departure from the group;
"It’s time for changes and towards fans of Mnemic I’m sad to announce that I have played my last shows with Mnemic in Spain in March. Because of my forever continued dedication to music and metal it has not been easy to make my decision to leave a great and innovative band like Mnemic after 8 succesful years with 4 releases.
"Personally I don’t feel my ambitions are fulfilled in Mnemic anymore and I wish my brothers and friends in band and crew all the best for the future. It has been some amazing years in many ways and I’ve learned a lot about myself and the music business, about what to do and what not to do.
"We have moved fast and achieved a lot in a short time with our music and concepts, toured and become friends with some of the greatest bands in metal, but I feel my cooperation with the band has peaked. This is NOT the end for me in metal and hopefully soon I can announce myself in another ambitious project. I have good people working with me and I have now officially signed up and put myself available as live/touring and studio/session bassist, so see you out there, anywhere, everywhere.
"My very own new website will be announced soon, so stay tuned. Thanks to all my fans for your support over the years and in the future!"
Threat Signal has posted the following studio video online. The band also commented on its recent activity by saying;

"We will also provide studio video updates as well. But for now we’ve put together this short pre-production video clip of a song called ‘Fallen Disciples’. This will give you a taste of what we are up to. The new music speaks for itself, so turn up the volume, grab a beer, and get ready to have your ass handed to you."

Weedeater has checked in with the following recap of recent tour dates and update about upcoming festival appearances:
"Hey all, just a quick update from the Weedeater camp. We're in Newark NJ right now, about to board a plane and jump the pond to see all our friends in Europe again tomorrow. Stoked to play Roadburn, Asymmetry Fest and all the other killer shows that we have lined-up, w/our bros in Zoroaster providing the crushing support they always do. We'd also like to say THANK YOU to everyone who came out for the US shows over the last few months.
"It was our best tour ever and we enjoyed every minute of it, up until Shep broke his hand that is. Sorry to end it on that note, but the few canceled shows in the Southeast will be rescheduled soon, so you presumably disappointed people will get yours shortly. Another thanks to ASG, Kvelertak and Zoroaster for being awesome support bands and great guys in general. And yet another big THANK YOU to all for your support during this album release. This was the first time Weedeater has ever charted on Billboard's Heatseekers (debuting at #45, in fact) or anywhere else for that matter, and that's kinda cool. OK, that's it for now. See you soon."
The Midnight Ghost Train has a trajectory much like a train driven by a ghost would. In a short time, the midwestern blues-influenced band has been on countless tours (currently touring with Jucifer), including European dates. The band members are absolutely determined to spread their gospel around the world with their self-titled album (reviewed here).
I had a chance to interview the vocalist/guitarist Steve Moss while on the road to talk about where the band's incredible sound came from, blues men that sold their souls, and why the group can't understand why people think that Midnight Ghost Train is a metal band. More...

Lizzy Borden has issued the following announcement about working on material for an upcoming album:
"2010 was an amazing year for Lizzy Borden touring in Europe, Japan and the states with our 'Appointment with death show.' The festivals and headline dates in every country were all very special to us in one way or another. This was all possible due to our very well received 'Appointment with death' record.
"We created two epic video's that air on MTV (one of which was nominated for video of the year on headbangers ball) and a brand new stage show that proved to everyone that this was a new era for Lizzy Borden. The Appointment with death show and record took a giant leap forward into a whole new generation of fans all around the world.
"We are now in the writing process for a new Lizzy Borden record as well as new video's and a brand new stage show soon to follow.
"Because we do not wish to repeat ourselves we are taking our time with this new release to make sure we create songs that inspire us for the visual medium as well as our usual audio mayhem. This new record is already heading in a more (individual) song oriented direction, and it is my hope that we end up with at least ten new songs that can stand on their own and will be the soundtrack for our new generation of Lizzy Borden fans, all the while satisfying our dedicated fans who have been with us from the beginning. Black metal act Abazagorath has checked in with the following statement about working on new material:
"Abazagorath lapsed into suspended animation from about 2007 - 2011 due to some shake ups & turmoil within the line up as well as most of the membership's involvement in a number of other musical entities such as In Memorium, Immolith, Fenuebrarum, & Evoken.
"The time has come for The Spirit of Misanthropy & Solitude to come forth once again to wreak its dire wrath upon the unwitting & enfeebled Black Metal scene of today. New material is being crafted and honed to lethal precision, previously unreleased hymns will force their way unto the world, and a new campaign of Live Terror Desecration Rituals is already being plotted. Once again the Horns of Abazagorath will Impale the Heavens! Beware the second coming of Abazagorath... The future looks dark..."

U.S. Christmas will release "The Valley Path," the follow-up to 2010's "Run Thick In The Night," through Neurot Recordings on May 31st, 2011.
Commented guitarist/vocalist/wordsmith Nate Hall of the offering: "When the idea for The Valley Path was imagined, all involved agreed it was true and went forward. Forward in thought, forward in vision, forward in action. We achieved what we wanted to achieve, and whatever is said about The Valley Path, it will stand. USX has played more gigs than I can remember, from Marion to Prague, Detroit, Austria, Memphis and Switzerland. Dirt floors and Masonic temples, churches and ghettos, wilderness and cities. To dozens and hundreds - occasionally thousands. We have recorded our songs, projected our collective visions. We have realized all that we have imagined.
"At this point, we have nothing to prove. We’ve been under the gun many times, and whatever anyone might think about us, we’ve never flinched. Never compromised. When things are good - and they usually are, being in this band is a dream. But we can’t entirely escape reality. Fuse boxes blow, power fails, instruments break, people leave. We vomit in parking lots and go play inside. We sleep sitting up and wake up sore. Or we sleep in places most people would not willfully enter. We are hungry and miss home. We go on, and we are thankful because we have songs. And when we write our songs become a part of us, our center. Our home. A song does not have to be a part of a collection. It is more important for music to take the path it chooses, and an artist must be willing to let this happen. The Valley Path is one song. And a song is a thing that changes."
The band also has the following upcoming tour dates:
4/16/2011 Earshot Records - Greenville SC ACOUSTIC SHOW
4/22/2011 Static Age Records - Asheville NC ACOUSTIC SHOW

Warbringer has been working on new material since coming off the road in late November and will be entering the recording studio on Monday, April 18th. Producing this time will be Steve Evetts, who has worked with bands as diverse as Dillinger Escape Plan and Symphony X to Sepultura and Hatebreed.
"Our goal with this record is to make something beyond a run-of-the-mill metal CD," explains guitarist John Laux, "The most difficult challenge is always finding just the right balance between a raw, aggressive sound and modern production standards. We chose Evetts to produce, aside from his extensive resume, because he aims for very organic and bold sounds. His experience in bringing the best out from a wide variety from musicians across different genres of music can be seen in his credits and this speaks for itself."
The new album sees the band welcome drummer Carlos Cruz, who's had a lot of input into the new material. Footage of Carlos discussing the album can be found here.
"Musically and thematically I feel confident that this will be respected as our most mature offering to date," states John Laux. "I am really proud of all the elements of extreme metal we have been able to incorporate into the songs. There is weight and purpose behind the lyrics and most importantly we have had time to put a lot of thought and care into the music."
"Stay tuned everyone," closes John Laux before adding, "We'll be laying out a 'stone cold stunner' on you with our riffs soon enough!"
Los Angeles outfit Black Veil Brides will release the band's new album, "Set The World On Fire" via Lava Music/Universal Republic Records on June 13th in the UK. "Set The World On Fire" is the follow-up to the band's chart-topping debut album released in 2010. "We Stitch These Wounds" came in at #36 on the Billboard Top 200 and #1 on the Billboard Independent chart.
"Everything is bigger -- more songs, more vocals, more melodies. And it all came naturally; it's not an attempt to try to outdo our first record, but we wanted to show how we had naturally grown as a band and as songwriters. This is my favorite record I've ever made -- and most importantly, the best album anybody's ever made" proclaims front man and founder Andy Biersack.
“Fallen Angels,” the first single from Set The World On Fire, is slated to arrive as an early present to fans on May 2nd via iTunes. The video, shot in Los Angeles last month, was directed by Nathan Cox (Marilyn Manson, Disturbed, DevilDriver, HIM).
The title track from the upcoming release will also be featured in Wes Craven’s Scream 4. The song found its way into the film after the band’s loyal BVBArmy flooded the Scream message boards when a survey was posted asking which artists they would like to see on the soundtrack.

MetalSucks.net writer Anso DF has published Part 1 of a week-long series that looks back at the life of Type O Negative / Carnivore frontman/bassist Peter Steele. MetalSucks reached out to a few of Peter’s family, friends, and Type O Negative bandmates, who generously shared their thoughts, remembrances, and regrets. You can read the entire article and series of interviews by heading over to this location. An excerpt from the article, commenting on Peter's untimely passing, reads as follows:
So we miss the guy. His departure was sudden and, typical of Peter, ironically timed: A long period of turmoil had come to an end, say his friends and family, and a sober, focussed Peter was days away from a return from seclusion in Pennsylvania to his native New York. A late 2009 string of Type O concerts — which turned out to be his final shows — had marked the best Pete performances in years. Further, the band had just signed a new record deal with Napalm Records and booked a Staten Island rehearsal studio to undertake writing a new album. Nearby, an apartment had been found for Peter, also minutes from two of his bandmates’ homes. He was coming back; he was going to write songs to tell us where he’d been. His death seemed so cruel. It was hard to process.

James Rivera's Sabbath Judas Sabbath, a tribute to heavy metal icons Black Sabbath (primarily the Dio years) and Judas Priest, has been an ongoing side project for the Helstar front man over the past decade. Originating in Houston, Texas, the tribute band subsequently expanded to U.S. and European metal scenes in the form of "chapters", which feature musicians in each region.
This year the Houston-based chapter of Sabbath Judas Sabbath will unveil a new lineup consisting of two other Helstar members and will premier live this weekend in Houston and Corpus Christi. The band commented on the upcoming shows:
"Both shows are themed as 'James Rivera's Birthday Bash,' although the Houston Concert Pub event is especially unique, as it will commemorate the birthday of Rivera's dear friend, Leticia Estrada Auld, who passed away earlier this year due to cancer-related complications. In 2009, Rivera and Auld held a mutual birthday bash celebration together at the Concert Pub that featured a performance by Sabbath Judas Sabbath, which makes it fitting she be remembered at this year's occasion. Surprises will be revealed, memories will be had, and a rockin' good time is to be expected!" More...

We would like to personally thank all of the bands involved for their fantastic contributions, and to all our readers who have stuck by us throughout the years. There's a little something for everyone in this tribute album, and we hope you'll love it just as much as we do.
Dan Mitchell of Beneath The Woods Studios also added, "My original idea was to find bands that were only interested in paying tribute to Peter, and not getting caught up in the politics of it all. No talks of money, labels, suits, or anyone trying to suck the life out of it. Just a straight up tribute. While we had people from Dave Ellefson to Anathema showing interest, their schedules are too busy from prior commitments.
“If you look back at Type O Negative's catalogue, they covered various songs by artists that were much different from the original. There were most definitely fans of Neil Young who hated their rendition of 'Cinnamon Girl,' and Seals and Crofts fans who hated 'Summer Breeze.' There were even fans of Sabbath who hated Type O's rendition of a Sabbath song.
“However, Johnny Kelly put it best when he said ‘These are what those songs would have sounded like if WE wrote them, its our interpretation of the material.’ That was actually his response to me commenting on how ‘different’ the music on this tribute is.”
To hear what the bands have to offer with their cover songs, two teaser trailers are available below. The groups involved in the tribute have also conducted a series of interviews with Metalunderground to talk about Peter Steele’s legacy and the future of metal icons. You can read about how Autumns Eyes, Dark Hound, and Fairytale Abuse approached their cover songs and how Peter Steele influenced them. More...

The "Reckless and Relentless" tour, featuring headliner Asking Alexandria, is rolling forward despite being banned from Nashville venue Rocketown, and rolled right through The Cannery after a quick re-scheduling. The night of April 12th saw a flock of younger audiences out for the 6pm show, with an average age of about 16 years old. Unlike most other Nashville metal shows, they didn’t allow drinking and had thorough pat-downs at the doors. Nevertheless, the crowd sure looked like they had a good time. The bands backing Asking Alexandria were Chiodos, Emmure, Evergreen Terrace, Miss May I, and Lower Than Atlantis.
