The album's concept, written by Dennison, revolves around an end-time narrative of the final days of humanity delivered by its own hand.

“Hard to believe but Mantis have been in existence for over thirty years. Quite incredible really that we are still there releasing albums and maturing nicely. This also coincides with the 30th anniversary since the inception of NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal). Iron Maiden have obviously made it and just as importantly have managed to stay up there for this long time. Well done lads! By the way the album title "Sanctuary" has no relationship to them!! However we do share some history and maybe this album will put us up there with them. More...

White Lion’s “Bang Your Head Festival 2005” DVD, available in the Unites States via Frontiers Records, captures a momentous and spontaneous moment in the popular melodic metal band’s career.
“’White Lion Bang Your Head 2005’ was something that never was meant to be, but somehow happened,” said vocalist/band leader Mike Tramp.
The group made history in with two Top 10 singles from its 1987 sophomore album “Pride” and developed a following that would stay with them through two more albums that did not fair as well commercially. White Lion disbanded in 1991.
Eight years later, Tramp re-formed White Lion with a new lineup and released two albums.
After a 2005 American tour, White Lion made the decision to dissolve the band. Then a call came in that the group could not resist.
“I was sitting at home in Melbourne, Australia, and a call came in from Germany, asking me if White Lion wanted to be the surprise guest on the Bang Your Head Festival the following Saturday - only 4 days away,” Tramp said. “The next couple hours I called around the world locating the other boys, talking to travel agents, and what have you. How the hell were we to pull this off? But somehow we did.”
The band arrived at the festival – one of Europe’s largest metal festivals - and spent four hours holed up in a dressing room so no one could see them.
“We took the stage to a thunderous roar from the massive head-banging crowd, and leapt into our set of classic White Lion favorites,” Tramp said. “The show was a one of kind and we never really understood what was going until many hours later, when we would gather our thoughts and kick back at the hotel. We had accomplished something in four days that usually takes us months to prepare, and we hadn’t even rehearsed or had any of our own crew with us. It was brave but it was also very refreshing.”
The band hadn’t known about the video recording of the concerts until months later. When Tramp had a chance to see it, he knew that magical show had to be released.
“It took longer to get it done than anticipated, but finally it is here and it hasn't lost any of the magic and power that took place in June 2005 at the BYH festival,” he said.
The set list is the same as the concert and the DVD also features bonus tracks from the USA tour and a full length interview with Mike Tramp from the following year’s Bang Your Head festival 2006 where Mike Tramp explains how it all came together.
White Lion released a new studio album, “Return of the Pride,” last year on Frontiers.
The track listing for Bang Your Head Festival 2005 is: More...

Bill, the drummer of NY metal band, Malstrom, has issued the following statement regarding the ending of his band:
"Well folks, after 7 years, a demo, two records, and dozens of shows it's time for me to hang up this project. Having spent the past 3.5 years dealing with a never ending plague of lineup changes, it is painfully obvious that there isn't really support out there to learn this music, let alone take it out on the road and perform it. Nonetheless, we'd like to thank all the folks who've helped us out over the years including band members, radio stations, webzines, promoters, studios, other bands, and friends coming out to our shows (when we were playing them) over the past few years. Whether or not any of us goes on to better things, it was fun the few times things were working with this project." More...

It definitely still sounds like us, but we needed to be refreshed and take things a little further." The singer also comments on the album being the band's second self-titled effort of its career, saying, "When we all couldn't agree on an album title, someone suggested we just keep it self-titled and we all pretty much agreed...gives it the feeling of a fresh new beginning."

Given Chuck Schuldiner’s profound influence on the death metal genre, which some say he created, I was looking forward to this local tribute to the work of this legendary guitarist who died far too young in 2001. If nothing else, we got to see some local talent with a guarantee of some good cover songs at The Cobalt, one of the few Vancouver venues dedicated to the metal and hardcore music scene. More...

Darkest Hour has issued the following statement about their upcoming album and touring schedule:
"Darkest Hour, the Washington D.C. powerhouse metal quintet, will proudly release their fifth full-length record, The Eternal Return, June 23, 2009 on Victory Records. The band tapped producer Brian McTernan (Senses Fail, Thrice, From Autumn to Ashes) and recorded at his Baltimore, MD-based Salad Days Studio. Guitarist Mike Schleibaum comments, “To put it simply, this is a metal record made by dudes who have dedicated half of our lives to aggressive, unrelenting music.”
“It’s been a long road, but we have finally completed work on our new record, The Eternal Return,” added Schleibaum. “I am very proud of the hard work and passion that both the band and producer Brian McTernan poured into this. After 14 years, we’ve decided there’s no reason to put out DARKEST HOUR records other then for ourselves and for the people that love this band. This record has no hidden agenda, no pop hit, or stylistic departure to broaden the fan base. Rather, it is a sick thrash, speed, melodic, metal record! It feels like it has all the aggression and speed of our Hidden Hands… record, the melody and songwriting of Undoing Ruin, and the technicality and musicianship of Deliver Us. We encourage anyone who has loved our records in the past or present to check it out. And if you’ve never found something that’s connected with you in a DARKEST HOUR record before, then take some time to listen to this one, because this is a defining DARKEST HOUR record… We look forward to playing new songs on our upcoming European tour with Bleeding Through and on this year’s Summer Slaughter Tour! See ya in the pit!”
"Fans will surely not be let down by this upcoming album, and prior to its release in the states, DARKEST HOUR will head over to Europe on the Thrash and Burn Tour on a co-headlining stint with Bleeding Through, with support from Beneath the Massacre, Carnifex and more. More...

Alice In Chains has announced that they've finished recording their upcoming new album, which is tentatively due in September. Here's the update from the band:
"As most of you who have been paying attention have already figured out, the new Alice In Chains album is finally complete. We've been in the studio since October, and since it all began we celebrated 6 major holidays, elected a new President of the United States, crowned new World Series and Super Bowl champs, endured fires, earthquakes, & blackouts in and around Los Angeles, took a 2 1/2 week break to go to Australia, and to cap it all off, William & Jerry finally euthanized their beards.
"This long, arduous process is complete, and although there's still a lot of work to be done, the songs are in the can and that's the most important thing.
"So what can I tell you when I look back on the last six months?
"I can tell you that the monotony of 12 to 16 hour days in the studio can be broken up by multiple costumes and hair styles, hours and hours of dice games, any sort of dialogue delivered in a heavily accentuated southern drawl, and a slew of special guests dropping by the studio.
"Most of all I can tell you that some amazing songs were written and recorded. From the heaviest riff-dripping gut puncher to the most sadly beautiful song I think this band has ever recorded, I honestly believe that this album will return Alice In Chains to the top of the hard rock heap.
"So now the next few months are dedicated to things like album artwork, lining up interviews and press, shooting videos, planning tours, and figuring out whether to bury Jerry and William's beards at sea or donate them to science.
"Hopefully these new songs will strike a chord and make a similar impact on all of you out there that were moved by this band in the first place. These songs have definitely done that with me, and frankly I'm getting pretty sick and tired of loving this stuff alone, so I can’t wait for it to be released so it'll become your favorite record of 2009 and we can discuss it at the shows.
"So clear a slot in your CD shelf and schedule maternity leave from work in September, because the long drought will be over soon..."
