Ukranian ambient doom band Odradek Room is streaming all seven songs from its upcoming album "Bardo Relative Reality" over on Bandcamp, or you may listen to the tracks in the player below. Odradek Room first came to prominence with the track “The Painting (Deepening into the Canvas with the Oil)” on the compilation "Doom-Art 2009." Odradek Room describes this as its first conceptual album, the lyrics of which are partly built on the ideas of the Tibetan Book of the Dead and surreal images of the subliminal consciousness.
U.K. doom metal band Witchsorrow has made the following statement on its Facebook page regarding the release of its upcoming second album and change of record label: "Beware, cursed ones. On May 28th we unleash our second set of hymns to darkness, 'God Curse Us,' on Rise Above Records. Recorded at Foel Studios by the masterful Chris Fielding over Hallowe'en, this is an hour of pure, heavy, doom metal Armageddon. Prepare, the hour is nigh..." Bilbao, Spain doom metal band Horn of the Rhino recently released the long awaited follow up to 2010's "Weight of Coronation." There was a time a few years ago that French technical metal band Outcast would get good natured ribbing from some metal fans, asking them if they composed "Hey Ya" or "Ms. Jackson." They took it in stride and even laughed back, knowing that their band name conjured up images of another entirely different group. These days, the comments are quite different. The metal community has taken notice of Outcast for the incredibly talented lot of musicians that compose this band.
Since "Self-Injected Reality" was released a few years ago, this French band is slowly gaining momentum with fans of progressive, dissonant metal. Fans of Gojira or Chimp Spanner, who like to be challenged when listening to heavy music, are taking notice of Outcast. Now with the release of "Awaken the Reason," Outcast has set out to prove they have the technical skills and chops to set the metal scene on its ear. Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with the congenial bass player for Outcast, Clement Mauro, and this is what he had to say about the new album and Outcast's music in general. More...

Selfmadegod Records is proud to be unleashing some grim brutality under the banner of Uppsala, Sweden-based outlaws Usurpress. The record label commented:
"The unit fuses classic founding death metal patterns with dissonant, primitive crust/punk tones into a raw, filthy attack. Having only soiled the metal underworld with a demo and short split 7" releases to date (one with Bombs of Hades, the other with Pyramido), but that will all change on the 1st of May when their latest output In Permanent Twilight will be released. Recorded and mixed by Lawrence Mackrory in Blueflame Studio and Great Scot! Audio, the whiplash-inducing MCD runs rampant with eight thunderous Usurpress hymns in twenty-two minutes.
"Formed in 2010, Usurpress was founded by members Stefan Pettersson (ex-Sportlov, Diskonto/vocals), Påhl Sundström (ex-Blotseraph, Shuriken/guitar) and Calle (drums), later expanding to a four-piece by recruiting bassist Daniel Ekeroth (ex-Tyrant, ex-Insision, Dellamorte, author of Swedish Death Metal). Avant-garde black metal duo Formloff released the band's latest work of audio grimness in the form of "Spyhorelandet" last month via Eisenwald. The follow up to 2006’s Adjø Silo finds the eclectic Norwegian duo — Bernt Karsten Sannerud and Marius Sjøli – exploring the darker, more atmospheric realms of their past. The following press release was issued about the album:
"Where most black metal revels in stories of fictional deities, benign and malignant, 'Spyhorelandet' wallows in everyday themes. Much like the cover art, the music contained within bears the stark truth: When you peel back the skin, no matter how beautiful, what is left is the ugly personal histories each of us carries. Throughout 'Spyhorelandet,' naked inhabitants of our world are quoted directly. For many, defeat is their best and sometimes only asset."
New York metal band DesDemon has decided to disband. The band has issued the following statement regarding the decision:
"We as a band would like to thank everyone that has supported DesDemon. From the Sound Beach in to the Flight of the Valkyries.

Ohio metal goliaths Skeletonwitch are streaming "new" track "Tragedy of Days" at Prosthetic Records' official bandcamp page here (or check out the track in the player below). Never formally released on record in the States, the tune was recorded during the "Forever Abomination" sessions with producer Matt Hyde and appeared on the Decibel Magazine Flexi-Disc series (Oct. 2011 issue) as well as the Japanese edition of Forever Abomination.
Comments guitarist Scott Hedrick of the track: "'Tragedy of Days' was an epic instrumental by [guitarist] Nate [Garnette]'s former band Serkesoron. They disbanded after the untimely passing of Serkesoron's frontman, Thom Wright. Shortly after the band called it quits, Skeletonwitch was born. We re-recorded the track and Chance [Garnette] added vocals as a tribute to Thom, immortalizing him in song."

Orkan drummer Rune Nesse has joined the ranks of Norwegian blackened metallers Byfrost as a permanent replacement for the recently departed Alkolust. Originally intending not to find a full-time replacement, but rather to use session drummers both for live performances and in the studio, the band quickly changed its mind after rehearsing with Nesse.
Commented front man HeavyHarms: “The Bergen music community is very tightly knit, and we had known of Rune’s work for a long time. When our old drummer left we immediately started rehearsing with Rune and it was obvious that he not only understood BYFROST’s music, but that he also shared our vision for the band. So we did the logical thing and asked him to join as a full time member.”
The following press release was also issued about Byfrost:
"A band known for its trademark menacing heavy riffs and headbang-inducing live performances, Byfrost’s sophomore album 'Of Death,' which, like their debut album 'Black Earth' was produced by Enslaved’s Herbrand Larsen, was released on Germany’s AFM Records in 2011, and led to several festival appearances and a European Tour. Work has already begun on the third album, and, according to the vocalist, 'Rune’s arrival has been like a shot of adrenaline. Byfrost is sounding tighter and heavier than ever before. The new album is already sounding fantastic, and we can assure our fans that it’s going to more than meet their expectations.' More information about Byfrostcan be found on the band’s Facebook page here. Below you can see fan-filmed footage of Byfrost performing 'Horns to the Sky' live at Bloodstock in 2011." More...

I picture Vince Neil kicking it in his backyard with a couple of buddies (and a couple of groupies, one young, one looking somewhat weathered), sharing a joint and several Budweiser beers, when someone leans in and asks Neil, “So, what’s next?” Vince ponders the rock and roll bar, his tequila business, the tattoo shops, and the charter airline business. Vince takes a long pull from his can of Bud and his eyes open up wide. More...
