Launch Radio Networks reports: BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi is thrilled with the band's latest release, which spotlights the time when Ronnie James Dio was the singer. It's called "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years", and in addition to a selection of material from the past, the album also has three new songs that were written in the last few months for the project. Iommi told Launch that he's happy to showcase Dio's contribution to the SABBATH legacy in this fashion, and the band is also thrilled to have new material to play live. "I think it's great, because this era of the band — certainly since we've been back with Ozzy (Osbourne) — 10 years of not really hearing about this lineup," he said. "And a lot of people have asked about doing an album, and I think it's great now that we can actually go out and play these tracks, and have an album out again of these tracks, with some fresher stuff."
"Black Sabbath: The Dio Years" sold almost 21,000 copies in its first week out, putting it at Number 54 on the Billboard 200 chart.
While they're BLACK SABBATH on the album the group — which also includes Geezer Butler on bass and Vinny Appice on drums — is touring this year as HEAVEN AND HELL. They recently finished up a series of dates that took them across Canada and ended with a DVD shoot at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Their next U.S. run of shows begins April 22 in Phoenix.
LiveDaily.com reports: Veteran metal band Queensryche (tickets | music) has booked a handful of US dates through the summer that will sandwich a four-show tour of Japan. Stateside shows begin May 24 in Albuquerque and so far stretch through mid-July.
The band continues to support last year's "Operation Mindcrime II," which is the sequel to its 1988 platinum-selling concept album. "Mindcrime II" debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 chart, making it the band's highest debut in more than a decade, according to a press release. A few songs from the set are streaming at Queensryche's MySpace page.
Last year's theatrical tour to support the "Mindcrime" series was captured for double-CD and -DVD sets due in June. "Mindcrime at the Moore," filmed in Queensryche's hometown of Seattle, comprises the full theatrical production with actors playing out the "Mindcrime" saga.
The DVD set also includes a tour documentary, a featurette on the band's "Rock & Ride Across America" charity event and a live performance of "The Chase" from the Los Angeles concert that featured Ronnie James Dio's only public appearance as the character Dr. X.
"This concert is the realization of an idea that began nearly two decades ago," singer/songwriter Geoff Tate said in a statement. "The story and music of 'Operation: Mindcrime' is very dear to the band. We are thrilled with this performance and proud to share it with our audience."
Queensryche is also planning a "best-of" album for later this summer.
During its 26-year career, Queensryche has sold more than 20 million albums and toured in more than 22 countries, according to a press release. The band retains four of its five original members--Tate, guitarist Michael Wilton, bassist Eddie Jackson, and drummer Scott Rockenfield. Guitarist Mike Stone came on board as a permanent member in 2005.

The new album from Norway's DØDHEIMSGARD, titled Supervillain Outcast (out April 17th on The End Records) is now available for streaming at mp3.com.
You can now hear the entire album in streaming format here.
Supervillain Outcast (on Moonfog/The End Records) is the band's follow-up to their 1999 release 666 International. While most bands would be affected by such a lengthy downtime between releases, DHG's insatiable drive to reach new plateaus with their powerful aural assaults has kept the momentum going strong allowing Supervillain Outcast to serve up pure black metal anarchy. Drummer Fabricio Ravelli has officially left Los Angeles thrashers HIRAX. His statement on the matter is as follows:
"I joined the band around a year ago and by that time, I had just came from Brazil to U.S. I definitely had some good times playing with HIRAX but I do believe that there's a time on life that you have to make decisions about what you want for your life, [and] I chose to have some self-respect. I wish good for the band but I came here to U.S to make it in music and this is my dream and I'm moving foward with my career. It's gonna be hard for me to find myself in a situation harder than the situations that I had to go through when I first got here like, living in my car or living in in numerous different places every day just because of what I want. So I'm not here to mess around and I'm definitely not stoping now so that means that you're gonna hear from me REALLY soon. I'm just glad that now I also can get to play my drums more freely 'cause there was a lot of elements that with HIRAX [that] just didn't fit. Yeah, I do love fast double bass and fast beats but I also grew up with all kinds of metal and some really heavy-ass Brazilian percussion, among other drumming stuff. It's like that saying from the great Muhammad Ali, you know, 'He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.' More...
Last week German death metal band NECROPHAGIST announced the addition of world-renowned drummer Marco Minnemann to its lineup. Minnemann will begin playing drums for NECROPHAGIST on the band's upcoming headlining North American tour, dubbed "Summer Slaughter Tour", also featuring labelmates CEPHALIC CARNAGE as well as DECAPITATED, ION DISSONANCE, CATTLE DECAPITATION, ARSIS and more.
The "Summer Slaughter Tour" will begin June 1 and is sponsored by Revolver magazine, Ibanez Guitars, Tama Drums, Fixion Media and Jaxprints. Prior to the start of the "Summer Slaughter Tour", Minnemann will perform select NECROPHAGIST songs at his upcoming drum clinics.
After establishing a reputation in his home country, Germany, in the late '90s, Marco began instructing solo workshops. Highlights included the Frankfurt Music Fair, PASIC in Dallas, and a solo performance at the "Modern Drummer Festival" in Toronto, where Marco had the honor of being the first German drummer to display his talents there. This performance, in the eyes of professionals and music trade magazines, catapulted him into the Top Ten of the drumming world. Following Drumfest, appearances included the Australian TUDW fest and the Montreal Drumfest in Canada. More...

PAIN's video for the track "Zombie Slam" has been posted online at this location. The clip was shot late February in Los Angeles by Ralf Strathmann. Ralf previously worked as a director for artists like CHILDREN OF BODOM, APOCALYPTICA and SOILWORK. He is also a photographer for such bands as H.I.M., AEROSMITH and BLINK 182, to name but a few.
"Zombie Slam" comes off the Swedish band's fifth full-length album, "Psalms of Extinction", due in the Nordic countries on April 18 via Roadrunner Records (May 7 in the rest of Europe). Guest musicians on the album include Mikkey Dee (MOTÖRHEAD, ex-DON DOKKEN, KING DIAMOND) on "Zombie Slam" (audio), CHILDREN OF BODOM frontman Alexi Laiho on the epic song "Just Think Again" (playing lead guitar), and Peter Iwers (IN FLAMES) on two songs (playing bass). Launch Radio Networks reports: HELLYEAH releases its self-titled debut disc on Tuesday (April 10), featuring a new all-star collaboration between members of PANTERA, MUDVAYNE and NOTHINGFACE. PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul was initially hesitant about joining the new project, but told Launch that NOTHINGFACE bassist Jerry Montano helped push him over the edge. "He just kept insisting, you know," he said. "He just called me seven or eight times. He's like, 'Dude, you gotta do this, you gotta be the drummer, man,'and finally one night he caught me when I'd been drinking and listening to some kick-ass music, and it just dawned on me. I just said, 'You know what? Let's give this thing a shot, you know.'And the next day I got on the phone with all the guys, and I just loved everybody's attitude. Everybody was so gung-ho about doing this thing, nobody had any ego, and it just really felt like the right thing to do. So that's why I decided to become part of it."
HELLYEAH is the first group Paul has played in since DAMAGEPLAN, the band he formed with his brother and guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott after the breakup of PANTERA. "Dimebag" was shot and killed by a disturbed gunman during a DAMAGEPLAN show in December of 2004.
In addition to Paul and Montano, HELLYEAH features NOTHINGFACE guitarist Tom Maxwell, MUDVAYNE guitarist Greg Tribbett and MUDVAYNE singer Chad Gray.
Chad Gray told Launch why he wanted to put it together in the first place. "I don't know, I think I always wanted another outlet besides MUDVAYNE," he said. "MUDVAYNE's pretty intricate, it's pretty technical, and there's, like, a lot of themes, and I just wanted to do a band that was all screaming and yelling and basically no singing — a band that I could really have fun on tour with. So I was just thinking, 'You know, we should just be insanely extreme and come out and just crush everything and have fun.'"
An exclusive version of HELLYEAH's album, featuring a bonus acoustic demo version of the song "Alcohaulin' Ass", is available at Best Buy.
SATANAS REX, the Black Metal offshoot of UK based COLD SPRING, one of the leading industrial/black ambient labels, has signed upcoming Black Metallers FUNERAL THRONE, and will release the band’s first album, Nihil Sine Diabolus, in the spring of 2007.
FUNERAL THRONE, a three piece comprising Saturnius; guitar and vocals, Morgul; bass and backing vocals, and Athrial; drums, is scheduled to open for CRADLE OF FILTH, at their Woverhampton gig on the 27th April. Two tracks from Nihil Sine Diabolus can be heard on the band’s official MySpace page on www.myspace.com/nfbm.
The label is also home to JOTUNSPOR, the studio project of King ov Hell (GORGOROTH, I, SAHG, AUDREY HORNE) and Kvitrafn (SIGFADER, WARDRUNA, ex SAHG, ex GORGOROTH), whose album Gleipnirs Smeder was released to much critical praise in 2006. Kvitrafn is due to enter the studios shortly to perform drum duties on the new album from DEAD TO THIS WORLD; the band formed by former IMMORTAL bassist Iscariah.
Swedish melodic death metal band WITHIN Y has recruited drummer Erik Hagström as the replacement for the recently departed Thim Blom (ex-GARDENIAN).
Blom left the group in December 2006, claiming that "pain in [his wrists]" made it impossible for him to "perform at the top of [his] abillity and to do what it takes to play at this level."
Gilby Clarke has reportedly left Rock Star Supernova. No reason for the departure has been given, although disappointing sales, less than 56,000 in the US, are believed to have contributed to the decision.
According to front-man Lukas Rossi, the band will change their name and are currently writing for a new album.
British doomsters ORANGE GOBLIN have posted a new track, entitled "Hounds Ditch", on their MySpace page. The song comes off the group's new album, "Healing Through Fire" (artwork), due on May 21 via Sanctuary Records. The CD was recorded at Fortress Studios in London with producer Mark Daghorn. The final track listing for the CD is as follows:

03. The Ale House Braves
04. Cities Of Frost
05. Hot Knives and Open Sores
06. Hounds Ditch
07. Mortlake (Dead Water)

Translation Loss Records has announced the signing of Boston-Massachusetts' BLOODHORSE.
Consisting of Alex Garcia-Rivera (drums), Matt Woods (bass, vocals), and Adam Wentworth (guitar, vocals), BLOODHORSE formed at the tail-end of 2004 as an informal avenue of keeping busy during the down time of their respective bands. The following year would see the band become their main focus as previous obligations disbanded or disintegrated, and the core of their early material would be realized. Though a relatively new group, the members of BLOODHORSE have spent the last decade touring and releasing records with an expansive collective resume that includes 454 BIG BLOCK, SHELTER, THE RED CHORD, SAVES THE DAY, AMERICAN NIGHTMARE and PREMONITIONS OF WAR. However, BLOODHORSE dispel any notion of prior band affiliation with the bastardized wall of sound delivered on their upcoming Translation Loss debut, "EP", that pays homage to the likes of DEEP PURPLE and THE WHO while fusing contemporary elements from bands like ENTOMBED and SAINT VITUS. Finnish melodic death metal band SEARING MEADOW has released a new promotional CD. The effort was recorded at Noisecamp Studios with producer Kari Nieminen. The track listing is as follows:
02. Obey and Desecrate
Check out the song "Inverted" on the band's MySpace page.
Guitarist Sasu Haapanen previously stated about the new material. "Although pretty recognizible SEARING MEADOW stuff — [the songs are] much heavier and gloomier. Ville's [Pekkala; guitar] been listening to lot of bands like OLD MAN'S CHILD recently and you can hear their influences pushing through. I guess you won't hear songs like 'These Evening Tears' on the next album."
Bassist/vocalist Steev Esquivel of reactivated San Francisco Bay Area metallers SKINLAB has issued the following update:
"Just thought I would let you know that Century Media has honored our request to be released from the label. We having nothing bad to say about CM. Everyone there did a great job and helped us out along the way a much as they possibly could have.
"We would like to thank Marco and everyone at Century Media for their hard work over the past 10 years.
"Our last release for CM will be the 10-year anniversary reissue of our debut album, 'Bound, Gagged and Blindfolded'. They've been cool enough to speed up the manufacturing process so we could have 'em for sale on the Face Of Aggression Tour… very fuckin' metal of them!!
"So that's it for now. We're fuckin' excited about the future of SKINLAB. We're felling stronger than ever nowadays. The new tunes are coming out slammin'. I have no doubt SKINLAB will find a new home sooner than later." More...
TRAP THEM, the brutal metal/hardcore band formed by Ryan McKenney (ex-BACKSTABBERS INC.) and Brian Izzi (ex-DECEMBER WOLVES), has signed with Deathwish Records. The group will enter Godcity Studios this summer to record "Seance Prime" for a late 2007 release.
In early 2007, TRAP THEM released two records on Rhode Island's Trash Art! label, both engineered by Kurt Ballou (CONVERGE) at Godcity Studios. First was their crushing "Self Titled" debut 7" EP. Bringing to mind influences ENTOMBED, NASUM, and even BLACK FLAG, the release was a devastating three song wake up call to the aggressive music community. Just two months later, TRAP THEM released "Sleepwell Deconstructor", their debut full-length on Trash Art! The CD's viciousness is awe-inducing, proving that they already deserve to stand among the elite of the extreme metal and hardcore genre.

Tampa Bay-based thrash/death metal band UNKNOWN CURE has reformed after a two-year silence. Armed with new drummer Dave Conte and bassist William Beck, the group will enter the studio in May to begin work on the follow-up to 2002's "Afterlife".
According to the band's official bio, UNKNOWN CURE's "Afterlife" EP was a "raw demo" which captured the group's early sound with former drummer Marc Ciccosanti. UNKNOWN CURE's early lineup also included acclaimed bassist Darren McFarland (ATHEIST, CYNIC) alongside band principals Tony Anderson (vocals; GENERICHRIST, UNSPEAKABLE ACTS, ZOMBIE FUCK SQUAD), Don Queen (guitar; GENOCIDE, DECIMATION) and Guy Loucks (guitar; 454, BLESSED WITH PAIN).
If there's a "new" band you should watch for, it would be Scar Symmetry. Hailing from Avestas, Sweden since 2004, the band features singer Christian Älvestam (Incapacity, ex-Angel Blake, Torchbearer), guitarists Jonas Kjellgren (ex-Carnal Forge, Centinex) and Per Nilsson (Altered Aeon), bassist Kenneth Seil and drummer Henrik Ohlsson (Altered Aeon, ex-Diabolical, ex-Thrawn). They are often compared with In Flames and Soilwork, but the main thing that sets them apart from other melodeath giants is the existence of clean vocals, which alternates with the death metal growls. Not to mention the amazing guitar work. These guys prove that the Swedes are still at the top of the metal game.
When fellow Swedes Dark Tranquillity and The Haunted brought their co-headlining tour to Vancouver, BC, it gave me the chance to sit down with the two Scar Symmetry guitarists in their tour bus to ask them a few questions, hear them share their pearls of wisdom and learn some Swedish from them. Here's how it went down: More...
