Chilean power thrash legends Vastator have announced that they will be filming their second official video from the album "Machine Hell." The video will be for the ninth track from the album, "Puñado de Almas." Below are a couple of still shots from the video filming process. It takes vast reserves of endurance and determination to attain worldwide relevance in the extreme metal genre - much less retain it for two decades - and Montreal's Maurizio Iacono is one of a relative few with the scars and success to prove it. The job is never done, however, and rather than cool his heels as Kataklysm officially celebrates its twentieth anniversary, Maurizio has chosen to plunge forward with his personal passion project Ex Deo. Comprised of a modified Kataklysm lineup with extra personnel, Ex Deo in 2009 released "Romulus," (reviewed here) a lyrical history of the foundations of ancient Rome set to rumbling, melodic, epic metal anthems. This year, the saga continues.
On Sunday, April 1st, Finnish Viking metallers Turisas boldly led the vaunted Paganfest tour to Montreal's Club Soda. Originally booked for the entire tour, Ex Deo had been forced to cancel all but a handful of dates in order to focus on perfecting the highly anticipated sophomore album "Caligvla." Tonight, surrounded by friends and adoring hometown fans, they were ready to rock. I caught up with Maurizio shortly before showtime, and he brought me up to speed on a host of topics concerning both his bands, his lyrical inspirations, his passion for history, and more. More...
Nuclear Blast is proud to announce the newest addition to its family of diverse artists, U.K. metal act Bury Tomorrow. The band just finished the recordings for a second album, "The Union Of Crowns," which will be hit stores in North America on July 17th.
Commented the band, “We are unbelievably honored to be signing to Nuclear Blast. It feels unreal to be part of a label with such immense pedigree that has so much faith in our music. From the first demo they were sent, the guys at Nuclear Blast were just as stoked on the potential of the record as we were, and that means an awful lot to us. We have always said that this album would be how we defined the genre we've grown up in; what better place to start this path on, than with the world's biggest heavy metal label!"
Nuclear Blast A&R Manager, Jaap Wagemaker, added, “After listening to the first music that was sent to us, we decided that we HAD to work with this young band immediately! Having just finished recording their debut album for Nuclear Blast, The Union Of Crowns… this incredible record clearly shows that this band has everything to make it big in today's metal scene and go far beyond that! We at Nuclear Blast are looking forward to bring this band to the next level!”

West Coast blackened death thrash conjurers Valdur recently added guitarist/vocalist Samuel to their dark legion of wrath.
Comments the band in a collective statement: “We are fortunate enough to inject a healthy and brutal dose of diversity into our ongoing journey. The band is hard at work writing a new full-length, and are also setting up a West Coast tour for this summer.”
The band will be setting Baldwin Park, California ablaze headlining The Coven: Blood Pact With The Devil Fest this Friday, April 13th, 2012 at The American Legion. The set will include new songs from the band's as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2010’s unsympathetic "Raven God Amongst Us" full-length. The band will also be playing a local show on April 20th, 2012 at Lakanuki in Mammoth Lakes, California. In addition, Valdur will be taking part in this year’s Gathering Of Shadows Festival in Colorado this summer.
Hailing from Mammoth Lakes, California, Valdur released "Raven God Amongst Us" in 2010 via Blood Mountain Records. Stay tuned for further audio devastation from the Valdur collective later this year as well as additional live dates.
Candlelight Records has issued the following announcement re-releasing "The Ghost of Heritage" by Winterfylleth:
"Candlelight proudly presents this special reissue of the rising English band’s 2008 debut album. Remastered by Colin Marston (Krallic, Atheist), 'The Ghost Of Heritage' has been completely repackaged and features two previously unavailable tracks.
"Combining vicious yet moody folk-inspired black metal that harkens back to the early days of Enslaved and old-school Ulver, the Manchester-based quartet is that unique combination of beauty and brimstone. Roadburn Fest 2011 alumni, the metallers are currently finishing up their third album anticipated for release later this year." More...
The new album from Varg Vikernes' Burzum, titled "Umskiptar," will see North American release on May 22nd. Finding inspiration from the verses of famous Scandinavia poem “Voluspa,” "Umskiptar" is a return-to-roots album. Says the controversial musician: “The vocals are more important than on any previous album with a total of 66 stanzas making up the album’s lyrics.”
The following press release was also issued by Candlelight Records:
"Umskiptar expands Burzum’s ongoing influence of Nordic folk, but for this album adds more traditional heavy metal, signature Burzum composition, and a keener emphasis on vocal delivery – once again presented in Vikernes’ native tongue. Umskiptar (or Metamorphoses) follows the historical story that details the creation of the world and its end as dictated to Odin, a recurring character in Bruzum’s lyrics. Umskiptar follows 2011’s Fallen."
The "Umskiptar" track listing is as follows: More...
British Columbia's melodic metal act Noordvall has posted a song titled "Welcome To My Hell" online, which can be heard in the player below. Noordvall also commented:
"Well finally, we as a band are able to show all of you something that we are very proud of. Would like to thank Connor Pritchard for all the work he did on this song for us and helping make this a possibility. Also thanks to Justin Bullied for paying for our studio time originally even if it was forever ago, this ones for all the bros, and all the people who love music as much as we do. Welcome to my hell!"
Nightmarish electronic/doom mindfuck Author & Punisher is hitting the road for a string of live performances later this month. West Coast noise addicts, take note!

The Denver thrash assault Havok kicked off a run of dates with Sepultura, Death Angel, and Krisiun in Santa Ana, California last night. The North American Kairos Tour 2012 will make its way through nearly three weeks worth of shows, coming to a close in New York City on April 30th.
Comments vocalist/guitarist David Sanchez: “We're hitting the road with Sepultura - Holy shit!! It's a dream come true. This tour is going to be absolutely insane. All the bands totally rule and we're expecting to see some rowdy crowds. Prepare to have a sore neck and remember, no karate in the pit!”
Adds drummer Pete Webber: “I can't wait to start the upcoming tour with Sepultura, Death Angel and Krisiun! Sepultura was one of my very first influences in metal and in drumming! Catch HAVOK destroying a club near you!”
In the meantime, check out footage of the road dogs’ fiery performance in Puerto Rico late last month below.

Finnish metal act Ordog has checked in with the following announcement about working on the follow-up to the "Remorse" album:
"The recording of the new Ordog album is in the demoing phase. After we've laid down the keyboard and vocal demo tracks we'll begin the drum recordings.
"It strongly seems that the album will contain seven songs. Progress is slow but we're getting there.
Further details on the new album will be announced as they are made available. In the mean time, you can check out Ordog's music at the band's MySpace page.
Well over a year ago, Dan Mitchell (of Autumns Eyes) pitched the idea of putting together a tribute album to Peter Steele (Type O Negative, Carnivore) for release on the first anniversary of his passing.
After Dan, Ty (Metalunderground.com Content Manager) and I spent countless hours coordinating and working to make this project happen, and a dozen bands volunteered to record cover songs the tribute on their own dime, "All For None, None For All: A Tribute To Peter Steele" came to fruition and was released last year on April 14, 2011. It's safe to say that we were very pleased with the final result. I was amazed at the quality of all of the songs and pleased with the variety, making it one of my favorite albums of the year.
The only thing we were not pleased with was that we were forced to charge for this album in order to cover licensing fees and "do this the right way" (i.e. legally). We would have much rather released the tribute for free and see it spread as far and wide as possible - for fans everywhere to hear these great renditions of Type O Negative and Carnivore classics as performed by quality underground metal bands. But that was not possible and we settled on the bare minimum price to cover all of the fees: $3 USD per download.
Figuring out the licensing process was an effort unto itself, and in the end we had to pre-purchase a fixed number of licenses. These licenses are only good for a year, and their expiration is rapidly approaching in just days. The last day you will be able to purchase "All For None, None For All: A Tribute To Peter Steele" directly from us will be April 13, 2012.
It would be a shame to see this tribute disappear entirely. We may get the album up on other services such as Amazon.com. (iTunes does not let us set the price, so the album will not be available there). But there are no guarantees on this, or that it will be available in all territories. But one thing is for sure: This is your last chance to buy this full album download for a mere $3.00 (USD), as the fees for other storefronts (who handle the licensing) are higher and will have to be factored in to the price.
If you're a fan of Type O Negative, underground metal or this site (Metalunderground.com), please show us your support by ordering a copy of this tribute so we can fulfill all of the licenses that we purchased and get this compilation out to as many people as possible. If you have friends who may enjoy it, buy them a copy. What's $3 for a full album?
The track listing, which includes interpretations ranging from depressive rock to power metal to death metal and black metal, are as follows:
1. Auvernia – “I Don’t Wanna Be Me”
2. Fairytale Abuse – “Black No. 1 (Little Miss Scare-All)”
3. Stabbingback – “Halloween in Heaven”
4. Emancer – “My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend”
5. Dead Shape Figure – “Dead Again”
6. Enthrope – “Wolf Moon (Including Zoanthropic Paranoia)”
7. Dark Hound – “Life is Killing Me”
8. A Band of Orcs – “Green Man”
9. In.Verno – “Everything Dies”
10. Blind Greed – “Christian Woman”
11. Revilement – “Sex and Violence”
12. Autumns Eyes – “Love You To Death”

Produced by Jason Suecof (Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Trivium) at Audiohammer Studios, the new album tackles a host of political and economic themes and has already reaped the praise of fans and critics nationally. When speaking to drummer Antton Lant, it is obvious one is dealing with a musician who has an extensive background in the metal community. He commands respect with his decade playing for Venom and other groups and brings a certain element of heaviness to any project he's been involved in. But Antton is not a musician who is content to rest on his past laurels. He created his band Def Con One years ago to be involved in a group where he could bring his own ideas of what a heavy metal band should sound like.
Def Con One is the group he always wanted to be a part of, and is now doing that full-time. He feels that a group should be fun and not some routine job, and that is what he and the members of Def Con One convey - pure energy. As the band plays countless gigs in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and other cities in his native Britain, Antton took to time to dish with me about his involvement in Def Con One and other areas of his past projects in metal bands. The album sees release in Europe this week, and will see release in North America on Tuesday.
Documenting the final two tracks of Ufomammut's "Opus Primum," the audio/visual installments of the songs "Magickon" and "Mindomine" finish out the five-part video series that showcases the entire album, following the three previously released clips. Metal For A Dark World is pleased to announce that Brazil's thrash metal warriors Tsavo Inc. have signed a deal to release the band's first full-length album titled "When The Lions Are Hungry." Metal For A Dark World issued the following statement:
"Hailing from Goiania, Brazil, Tsavo Inc. was formed by Rinaldo Macedo on guitars in 1995. The band played several concerts in Brazil, and recorded a demo titled 'Thrash Metal Attack' as well as recorded a split album with another band that was titled 'Fast Food Thrash Metal.' The band decided to take a break in 2003. In 2004, Rinaldo became a member of the thrash band Arnion, who toured and also released a demo in 2006 titled 'Refuge,' then a full-length album titled 'Fall Like Rain,' which was picked up for a re-release along with the demo by Retroactive Records. Arnion broke up in 2008.
"After the split of Arnion, Rinaldo decided to revive Tsavo Inc. Rinaldo, along with Regis Melo started the band back up and asked Cleiton Magno, the lead singer of another great Brazilian thrash band called Disaffection (who have also released an album titled 'Begin The Revolution' on Bombworks Records), to join in on vocals. Julio Macaco rounded out the band on bass and the band started playing live shows and recently came out of the studio with their first full length album, 'When The Lions Are Hungry' recorded and ready to shop to labels. As a bonus, the album will be released along with their 1995 demo!! More...
Canadian thrash trio Untimely Demise was denied access to the United States earlier this week, only several dates into the band's three-week tour of the western half of North America. The group's publicist issued the following press release:

"Frustrated, they turned around and headed home, posting a statement on their Facebook last night explaining the situation in detail and apologizing to their American fans and friends they'd planned on raging with over the next few weeks. Get the full scoop on this unfortunate situation here, and stay tuned for future U.S. live actions once this is all cleared up.
"In the meantime, the band still have some badass regional gigs confirmed in Saskatchewan and Alberta in May, and will have more to broadcast in the weeks ahead."

"Greetings Grinders! Mastic Scum is currently working on the new 5th album! We are fucking excited about the new record which follows our last album DUST, our strongest release up to date, of which we are very proud!! However, the new release will be for sure a progression from the songwriting and sound production points of view.
"Some of the songwriting is already done, but we still have work to do! The new material so far is fucking brutal, combining shredding rhythms, mosh grooves and grindcore blast attacks! We sure give 100% in the song-writing-process and we cannot wait to enjoy with everyone the new overdose of brutal distorted structures! Be prepared!!
"As our goal is to enter the studio in summer 2012, we are very focused on our work and will play just a few live-shows this sprin/summer. Nevertheless, we really look forward to grind with you at our upcoming shows! Stay tuned!!!
"About the progress of the new album, we will keep you updated on our official Facebook site."
