Benjamin Baret, guitarist from Australian progressive metal group Ne Oblivscaris, has released a new playthrough video for the track "Pyrrhic" - check it out below. Regarding the track, Benjamin Baret comments:
"The riffs for that song are inspired by the great Göteborg scene of the late 90', with a more modern twist to it, the harmonized guitar part relies on a descending chromatic pattern which gives the main riff its flavor.
"The break is a classical music inspired moment, the chord positions are very piano-like which is something i love to do because it allows me to approach chord progressions in a fresher way, come with me off the beaten path!"
It was 30 years ago that Jesters of Destiny's "Fun At The Funeral" debut was released on the short-lived Metal Blade subsidiary, Dimension Records. A year later, the band released all-covers record "In A Nostalgic Mood," after which JoD was unceremoniously hacked from the Metal Blade stable and, unable to land another deal for third album, "No Laughing Matter," quietly disappeared. with all the main participants going on to other pursuits.
All these years later, Jesters Of Destiny returns with "The Sorrows That Refuse To Drown," an all-new record. You can stream the full release below. Bruce Duff also commented on the album to Pop Matters:
"It's been 30 years since the release of the Jesters' 'Fun at the Funeral.' This is our third record -- we took 30 years off. Wasn't like we were just sitting around though. We've been working on these songs for a while and we think it connects with the same stream of consciousness we previously mined without looking back to '80s sounds. We think it's pretty current. It also required a lot of current." More...
Michigan hardcore outfit Turncoat just released a new music video for latest single "American Dream." The video has a 90's home video-like vibe of the band's home town showing raw footage from the Detroit area.
This single comes by way of the group's Eulogy Recordings, 2016 self-titled EP and was recently selected to be on Metal Hammer's New Noise compilation album. Guitarist Keith Keister comments:
"'American Dream' is groovy, fast paced, straight forward example of exactly what we're trying to convey as a band. Off our Eulogy Records debut EP, it's definitely one of my favorites live and on the recording. This video gives a simple 90s-ish home video vibe and show cases some of the places we drive by, live near or see in our everyday life in Michigan and shows us in a very raw and back to basics perspective." "'Testament' is the album we were due to release back in the 90's era, it took us two years of work to bring you this piece of black metal. A lot of things happened since then, we are no longer part of the scene but we wanted to release this testimony of our early days in the scene but also pay a tribute to the french Black metal scene of the 90's and all the people we met through these years.
"This record will close this chapter of our lives though Metal music will always remain in our souls. We hope that you'll enjoy our Testament as much as we had pleasure recording it. Songs such as 'My Underwater Queen,' 'La rose et le marbre,' and 'Succubus' were on our 1995's demo tape 'Sombre Mélancolie' and are slightly re-arranged. 'Diaboli in amorem' is our fist ever written song. The other ones are never-released materials written in the 90's. 'Testament' was recorded and mixed between December 2012 and November 2013 in Paris." More...

You can get your copy over here.
The story of "Good Apollo" flows around protagonist Claudio Kilgannon (son of Coheed and Cambria) who until now has been mostly in hiding since the death of his parents; his advancing physical powers have drawn him out. It’s becoming clear to Kilgannon and those around him that the he is one mentioned in the prophecies, sent by God to destroy the universe he lives in because too many mistakes were made by the elite. But to Kilgannon, none of this makes any sense. Ambellina, the blue-skinned fallen Prise who’s mission it is to watch over him – helps guide him on the decisions he has in front of him. More...

Today SynaptiK has also launched a lyric video for third single “White Circles.” Singer John Knight commented about the lyrical concept behind the song:
“Lyrically, the song describes the story of one person’s dependency on medication, antipsychotic drugs, the decision whether to stop taking them and return to a natural state risking confusion and illness or to continue on, the side effects, the withdrawals, the risks. All overseen by the ‘God like’ psychiatrist.”
Knight worked for many years within the mental health system at management level further comments, “I spoke at length with a client about her feelings towards her medication and her psychiatrist. She told me her psychiatrist was ‘like a God,’ someone who oversaw all the choices she made and controlled her life. It made an impression and I wrote this song that night. Of course, not every story is the same and medication plays a very important and useful part of people's life, it’s not an anti-medication song at all, but about the conflict a person has, the internal battle… Telling themselves ‘I’m well now, I don’t need these tablets’ without realizing they feel this way because the medication is working, the side effects both being on and withdrawing can be severe.” More...
