Sweden’s Pain of Salvation has announced the release date for their eleventh offering, "Road Salt One." The albums will be out in US stores on June 8, 2010.
Pain of Salvation’s 2009 EP release, "Linoleum" was a preview of the new double album concept. The band supported its release with a string of headlining shows throughout Europe and Russia as well as supporting Dream Theater in Australia.
Pain of Salvation also was featured on Sweden’s “Melodifestivalen” which is a national European song competition. The TV show put the band in the living rooms of millions of European viewers. Although they didn’t win the competition, the exposure helped catapult the digital version of their song “Road Salt” to #12 on the Swedish charts.
Road Salt One not only includes the aforementioned title track, it also includes the previous EP single/title track, "Linoleum." The song "Where It Hurts" is the next to get the music video treatment.
"'Road Salt One' is twelve tracks of sweaty gravel, asphalt butterflies, untrodden paths and brave decisions,” says Pain of Salvation mastermind Daniel Gildenlöw. “It will not beg for your liking, it will not make excuses, it will not carry you safely across the dangerous waters. If you don’t pick up its pace it will leave you stranded at the curb of the road. Yes, 'Road Salt One' might indeed be a harsh lover, but if you have the guts to follow it whole-heartedly and dare to surrender to its voice, it will take you places you need to visit."
Frontman Daniel Gildenlöw will be in the US and Canada touring with the Prog supergroup, Transatlantic, in April. Here are the tour dates: More...

July 31 - San Pedro Sula, Honduras (TBA)
August 01 - Guatemala City, Guatemala (TBA)
CIRCLE II CIRCLE, led by former front man of SAVATAGE, Zak Stevens, has begun laying down tracks at Sweet Spot Studios for the recording of it’s 5th album entitled "Consequence Of Power." The second concept album for the band, "Consequence Of Power" has been described as, “a melodic power metal album catering to all fans from the old SAVTAGE era to all CIRCLE II CIRCLE European fans and breaking new ground for an all new fan base in America.” The release is expected for Fall of 2010 through AFM Records.
According to Stevens, “It’s been a hell of a ride so far, but it seems like just the beginning for some reason. People are really appreciating the purity of real hard rock & metal music these days since the genre became somewhat out of focus within the music industry the last five years. The demand for our style of music has roared back from fans, both young and old, on the history behind the band. We hear the calling and we continue to move forward. CIRCLE II CIRCLE will take you on a musical journey like no other rock/metal band. We will deliver a monumental evening of rock and roll power every night on tour. Don’t miss it!” The band’s line up consists of Zak Stevens (vocals), Andy Lee (guitar), Mitch Stewart (bass/keyboards) and new drummer Johnny Osborn, formerly of DR BUTCHER.
CIRCLE II CIRCLE recently signed a management deal with VENOMM and is currently booking for the POWER TOUR 2010/2011 due to begin his summer.
Israeli metal band Amaseffer has issued the following update:
"Few months has passed since our last update for we took some time off in order to focus on the new album. We now want to update you with the latest developments at Amaseffer's camp."
"First, we will now reveal the title for the second installment of our Exodus trilogy! Title for the new album is: When The Lions Leave Their Den."
"We think that this title is best describing the events of our new album which will mainly deal with the actual Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt. The trigger to use this title was actually that it's a part of the lyrics for the opening track, 'Pillar Of Fire', written by our dear friend Yotam Avni. Yotam is writing all the lyrics for the new album and so far we think he's "cooking" a divine creation!" More...
Canadian melodic thrash metal band ANNIHILATOR is available to listen to online now at the Earache Records MySpace page. The new song, titled "Coward", comes off ANNIHILATOR's upcoming self-titled album, which is due to be released in Europe on 17th May.
ANNIHILATOR guitarist and mainman JEFF WATERS comments, "This one turned out pretty fast and thrashy but has a pretty cool slow-down in the middle of the tune. Dave (Padden) wrote the lyrics on this and is pretty pissed off at someone; I think, a former friend of the family. Nothing really technical and difficult, other than some limb-cramping guitar picking and non-stop drum rippage, but I would describe it as simply a headbanging, no-B.S. metal scorcher. I am looking forward to posting some more songs from the new CD soon, as each song seems to really be different. Cheers metal friends!" More...

Nightmare Records has announced the signing of Florida-based, female-fronted power metallers Seven Kingdoms. The band's upcoming self-titled album will be released on July 13th. According to a press release, Nightmare Records owner Lance King "was impressed with the band's vocal siren, Sabrina Valentine. Her unique, warm and melancholic melodic sense combined with this speedy power metal band should please fans that are into the sound of Blind Guardian, Evanescence, Nightwish, Iced Earth, Withing Temptation, and Epica."
Formed in Deland, Florida in 2007 by Camden Cruz and Bryan Edwards, Seven Kingdoms entered Morrisound Recording in Tampa in August 2007 to record its debut self-financed independent release, "Brothers of the Night," which was lyrically inspired by the literary works of George R. Martin. After playing shows throughout the Southeastern region of the United States the band returned to Morrisound in 2009 to begin work on its self-titled sophomore effort.
The "Seven Kingdoms" track listing is as follows:
2. Somewhere Far Away

6. Wolf In Sheep's Clothes

Profound Lore Records has checked in with the following update about Ludicra continuing with their "De-Cancellation" tour after guitarist John Cobbett was hospitalized:
"Figure with word going around on the status and fate of Ludicra’s 'De-Cancellation' tour, it’s time we gave an official update on the situation. The plan is for Ludicra to soldier on their tour in St. Paul, MN (on April 08) as a four piece until guitarist John Cobbett fully recovers and can re-join the band for the rest of the tour. Read on how you can help Ludicra in this time of need.
"After finally getting their first big break in their illustrious ten-plus year career yanked from them when Mayhem unceremoniously decided to cancel their initially planned return to the U.S. (where Ludicra were direct support), Ludicra weren’t going to let this blemish get in the way of touring in lieu of their new album 'The Tenant.' So the band decided to last-minute book a full-on 31 date tour in place of the canceled Mayhem one.
"As the tour began, on the second day in the tour, guitarist John Cobbett felt a pain in his stomach/abdominal area and it was revealed he had appendicitis and that his appendix had burst, along with having an abscess growing inside his body which, in a weird twist of fate, actually helped him. Prior to the tour, before the Pentagram show in SF which Ludicra recently played, Cobbett felt the symptoms of such a sickness and went to get checked out. Even though he went to get checked out though, the ever reliable and helpful (sarcasm) doctors at San Francisco General Hospital simply dismissed it and told Cobbett there was nothing wrong with him. Finland's Beyond the Dream has issued the following update about parting ways with drummer Ville Silvast:
"It is sad but true…after 53 gigs, after three albums and countless hours of laughter, crying, partying and playing together… Ville, one of the band´s founding members is no longer part of Beyond The Dream! Ville played his last live show with us at Klubi (Tampere), couple of weeks ago. There is some good news too, Rolf Pilve who have already played with us at our last two gigs is our new drummer! Everybody, please welcome and treat Rolf as a new dreamer."
Vocalist Harri Kauppinen also issued the following statement:
“There are no need to try to find reasons or questions like 'Why Ville decided to leave the band?' I know those reasons and they are more than good!! And that is enough. I've been played with him almost my entire life and of course i´m sad that this happened right after band´s first real steps…but the life goes on and four of us will continue this with Rolf…and we will continue this proudly! There is only one thing i need to say : Ville, we created something awesome, THANK YOU MATE! Let´s go and get drunk again."
Italian melodic death metal act As Memory Dies recently released "Transmutate," a disc that blends beauty and savagery and adds some definite progressive sounds near the end, with a mind-blowing three-song arc that blends heavy metal with Christopher Marlowe's "The Tragical History Of Doctor Faustus," which was written in 1604.
I recently had a chance to trade e-mails with As Memory Dies singer Fabio Caruso, who talked about what inspired the band to record such a unique trio of songs, and how they managed to compose the music around those 400-year-old words.
Caruso said he had admired the play since high school, and when he shared the idea of recording the portion that comprised Faustus' last hour with the rest of the band, they got excited about it as well. But it wasn't easy to record, by any means. Caruso said, "We knew in advance that it would be very difficult to compose the perfect musical melodies in order to stress the different moods and nuances of Faustus’ last hour and to find the proper vocal lines due to the prose nature of the play, so we decided to be done with all the other 'Transmutate' songs before starting to compose it."
Caruso said the three-song suite took four months to record, but that the band is so pleased with the result that it isn't ruling out composing "another huge dramatic suite like this in the future."
We also talked a lot about some of the band's history and future plans, as well as other tracks on "Transmutate." More...

Danish modern metal act Mnemic has dealt with quite a bit of change throughout its history, seeing the band's vocalist position changed out three times over the course of four albums. Vocalist Guillaume Bideau has now performed on two albums with the band, including the latest release "Sons of the System."
Speaking on taking up the front man responsibilities he commented, "Well the most important thing for me was to stay myself and not be another Michael. We have a few vocal similarities but we are very different. The music, and only the music, tells me what and how to sing." Both Guillaume and guitarist Rune Stigart took some time to share the band's history and discuss the recording of the new album, which was handled in Mnemic's own studio. More...

Denmark's Saturnus has checked in with the following update about the status of the band's lineup:
"Dear all, We think that now is the time to let you in on what is currently going on in camp Saturnus… As you might know we went through a substantial ‘re-grouping’ last year. Thomas and Brian is of course still in the band handling vocals and bass while lead guitarist Rune Stiassny, who already participated in two European tours, also is a full-blooded member of Saturnus. We are looking forward to present our drummer and a rhythm guitarist as well when the time comes.
"While we are humble towards the achievements of the past we are at the same time confident that we are able to carry on the flame and create a new Saturnus album. When exactly a new album will see the light of day we can’t say for sure. But what we can say is that we are currently i the process of writing new songs and that we will do some pre-recording for our album this Spring.
"The new material – in our opinion – is promising indeed. But if you would like a peek listen as to how it actually sounds like we have uploaded a youtube clip at this site from our performance of the new song ‘Wind Torn’ in Madrid last fall. We hope you like it… (our former drummer Jesper and Martin from Nightlight/Iron Fire helped us out on this tour – thank you!)."
Finland's Abysmalia has issued the following statement regarding their latest album "Replenish Entirety:"
"As some of you have already noticed, ‘Replenish Entirety’ has been available for streaming for the past week at this location and will remain there. Now, as the most eager of you have span the album few times, it might be useful to know about the making process and the baselines behind the album.
"REPLENISH ENTIRETY IS ONCE AGAIN A CONCEPTUAL ALBUM, WHAT IS IT ABOUT? Stripped to its core, it is a story wrapped around such themes as (inter alia) inadequacy, anger-ridden desperation and spiritual renewal - an experiment of unfortunate events eventually leading to cathartic purification of the soul. Unlike ‘Quid Humanum Est’, the main focus on this collection of songs is on the lyrics, and the music is thus created to underline their emotional entirety, rendering the tones ‘merely’ a soundtrack to convey and interpret the storyline. Because the broad spectrum of human feelings is widely present in the storyline, I had to make the music match the emotional storm portrayed within the lyrics. This - accompanied with the linear/chronological development with the storyline - is mainly the reason why the musical aspect softens, enlightens and becomes less ‘disturbing’ towards the ending.
