Singer Christopher Schmid has left the German gothic rockers LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE due to personal reasons.
"I don't feel that I can combine the permanent stress (brought about by touring, concerts and general uncertainties of the music business) with my 'normal' life and my future," Schmid said in a statement.
Although the rest of the band is sad about Christopher's decision to leave the group, they are happy about the fact that Christopher has offered to carry on with LACRIMAS PROFUNDERE as a lyricist and songwriter. The "LACRIMAS sound" will not change, because the brothers Oliver and Christopher will continue to collaborate as before, and Christopher will even add some of his vocal lines to the next album.

New Jersey based progressive-thrash metallers DARK EMPIRE, which features in it's ranks vocalist Jens Carlsson (PERSUADER, SAVAGE CIRCUS) and bassist Noah Martin (ARSIS), have revealed the artwork for their forthcoming second album, Humanity Dethroned. Check it out at this location.
Expected out this spring/summer, Humanity Dethroned will include the following tracks (not in the definitive order): 'Eyes Of Defiance', 'No Sign Of Life', 'Humanity Dethroned', 'The Forgotten Sin', 'Faded Dreams', 'Salvation Denied', The Apparition Sequence: 'I Prelude' (instrumental), 'II Haunted', 'III Possessed (We Are One)', 'IV Closure', 'The Knife' (GENESIS cover).
Guitarist Matt Moliti previously commented on the upcoming release, stating, ""Overall, the sound is much heavier than Distant Tides, with less PowerMetal elements and more thrash, prog, and even some melodic death creeping into the mix. There is also more interplay between clean and death vocals, and that appears in almost every song on the album. I really feel like I've come a long way with my songwriting since I wrote Distant Tides, and I can safely say that Humanity Dethroned is going to completely smoke it."

The organizers of the ProgPower USA festival have announced a surprise headline set for this year's sold-out edition of the internationally renowned festival. Saturday night (October 6) will now finish with an all-star cover set featuring vocalists from both the showcase and the festival. Each vocalist will be given the opportunity to perform 1-2 cover songs of their choice with the music being provided by the members of PAGAN'S MIND. Additional guests will join them throughout the set.
"The fans have made this festival a success and it's time to give something back to them," said ProgPower USA promoter Glenn Harveston. "I wanted to announce this after the sell-out as a reward instead of in advance as an incentive. It's going to be one hell of a party on stage."
As a result of the additional performance, there has been a major change in the schedule and door times. "I had to shake things up quite a bit to make this work," Harveston explained. "However, the fans can relax knowing that not one band will have a single minute cut from their previously announced set lengths."

HAMMERFALL founding member & guitarist Oscar Dronjak sends in this update about the band's new bassist:
"The waiting and speculation is over. Magnus [Rosén] has been replaced. The new guy should be no stranger to any HAMMERFALL fan: re-enter Fredrik Larsson, original member of the band and fugutive for the past decade. Fredrik brings structure to the rhythm section and I think you will definitely hear and feel the difference when we play live."
"He plays with a pick, for one, and has a great groove and timing, all of which will make HAMMERFALL sound better than we ever have before," drummer Anders Johansson remarked, and guitarist Stefan Elgrem chimed in: "We are all very psyched about this and can't wait to get on the road again." Lead singer Joacim Cans adds, "Fredrik recorded Glory To The Brave with us, so he's definitely a part of the family. It's great to have him back!"
States Larsson about re-joining the band:
"I am very happy and excited to be back! I have known the guys for more than ten years and we have kept in touch all the time, so it is not as if I come in a complete stranger. We played a few songs together last weekend, and it felt like 1997 was just a couple of weeks ago."
