Drummer Peter Wildoer of the Swedish thrashers DARKANE has issued the following update from the recording sessions for the group's new studio album, due later in the year via Nuclear Blast Records:
"This is our first post from the studio. We entered the studio on Monday the 18th of February. We still don't have our own studio since the old one was flooded this past summer so we're renting another studio here in Helsingborg where we set up all our own equipment. Like usual when DARKANE is in the studio, we had tons of bad luck so it took four days setting up the studio, changing all cables that suddenly were broken, changing toms that sounded bad in this recording room and so on; quite frustrating when you just want to start recording."
"I've laid down drums on 14 tracks and we'll see how many end up on the final CD. It's hard to tell what direction the record is taking but it definitely sounds like DARKANE and with lots of fast songs. I came up with some cool improvised parts and I also had to take some time 'writing' some typical Wildoer parts in the studio." More...
SUIDAKRA have issued the following update:
"Finally, we can announce the official release dates for the 13 Years Of Celtic Wartunes DVD + Best Of CD package:"
"Germany - April 25th
Europe - April 28th

"13 Years Of Celtic Wartunes will be released as a 6-page digipack on the new Wacken Records label, with worldwide distribution handled by SPV." More...
Testament have posted a brand new song called "More Than Meets The Eye" on their official Myspace. The song is from the bands highly anticipated new album "The Formation Of Damnation."
Veteran San Francisco Bay Area metallers VICIOUS RUMORS have announced the addition of guitarist Kiyoshi Morgan (photo) to the group's ranks. According to a press release "Kiyo is a longtime San Francisco Bay Area pro, playing lead guitar in several tribute bands, covering the styles of SLAYER, JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN and ALICE IN CHAINS. With the support of Gibson guitars and Sfarzo strings, Kiyo has found an identity in VICIOUS RUMORS as an old-school rock and metal guitarist with powerful anthem riffs and blistering-yet-musical leads!"
Comented guitarist Geoff Thorpe: "Kiyo just fit in and sounded great!! Our guitar styles blend really well... and this guy can shred!! Our new lineup is as strong as ever. I can't wait to unleash the new VR beast."
VICIOUS RUMORS recently enlisted singer Ronnie Stixx (SHADOWKEEP, DIVINE RUINS). "Ronnie showed up and blew the band away with his powerful voice," stated guitarist Geoff Thorpe. "The first night he sang with us it was like he was in the band for years. It was amazing." More...
MEGADETH drummer Shawn Drover has issued the following update:
"As I sit here in beautiful Munich, Germany, having drank way too much coffee, I just realized that we have been on this current 'United Abominations' world tour for one year!! Man, we have played so many killer shows in so many great places, and although we are still in the thick of it all, it puts a smile on my face having done so much in the past year."
"The last two shows had us headlining a few different festivals with some good friends of ours, namely OVERKILL and my buds in THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, both of which I enjoyed watching very much. Real exciting stuff to watch for me, and it was nice having a chat with all of them, though of course DD [Verni, OVERKILL bassist] and Blitz [OVERKILL singer] had to give me a bullocking for their Giants winning the Superbowl. That's OK, though, as they are fully aware that my Steelers are a shoe in for the super bowl next season but this is another conversation for another time (We all verbally torture each other via e-mail during the NFL season, so this is nothing new, my friends)." Ohio-based metallers AXEMASTER have issued the following update:
"While the band finished the music for the new CD and turned the recording over to new singer Dan Kaisk to lay down the vocals for what will be BY FAR the best AXEMASTER ever, there has been some news...
"The band's release, '5 Demons (Imperative is their Demise)', from 1991 has been added to Smog Veil Records' iTunes roster for downloading (joining 'Blessing in the Skies'). '5 Demons' was the last release the band did while still active and the last time they released all new music. It's quite possibly the best of their old material. Check it out at this location."
"Sol Music Management hooked the band up with the Independent Artist Company and KAIC to create a page which includes two of the band's most popular old songs to specifically be downloaded by radio stations for airplay. The songs have gotten great response from several shows/stations. You can see the page at this location."
The CD re-release of AXEMASTER's classic debut album, "Blessing In The Skies", is available through Burning Star Records at www.burning-star.net.
New York's experimental metal band Mabus is currently in the market for a new guitarist. The band comments:
"As some of you may have heard, in a most surprising turn of events, our guitar player Michael has decided to take a definite leave of absence from our camp. Why? We too are stumped. But we wouldn't not wish Michael all the best in his future endeavors. So it behooves us to move on to bigger and better things."
"Candidates for the position should have "people skills," good equipment, a willingness to tour, and age 20-25. Interested parties can contact the band here."
SLUDGE, the Swiss extreme metal act featuring SAMAEL guitarist Makro, has posted the video for the song "60mm", taken from the group's long-awaited new album, "Lava", due in April/May via Mighty Music.
The clip can be viewed here.
"Lava" was produced by Makro, mixed by Serge Morattel (KNUT, NOSTROMO, SHORA), and mastered by Alan Douches (MASTODON, CONVERGE). According to a press release, the album is "dirty, un-commercial, heavy as shit."
With regards to the musical direction of the upcoming CD, Makro previously said, "All we can say is that this is gonna be a bit different, keeping the heavy and dirty feel from our sound, we've been experimenting more things and paths… There's gonna be blood, teeth and the doomest atmospheres we've ever recorded…" More...
Seattle's Akimbo has officially announced plans to release a new album with Neurot Recordings later this year. The group has previously released albums with Alternative Tentacles and Seventh Rule Recordings. Here's a statement from the band:
"In February we were lucky enough to play with Neurosis out here in Seattle. The times? They were good. Good times. Pret-tay pret-tay pret-tay good times. Neurosis blew me away. I've been a long time fan but had never seen the dragon beyond it's cave, never heard the bull roar from atop the mount, never felt the itchy kiss of that beard. Apparently, Neurosis had never seen us either (crazy!), but the smitten-ness was a two way street and the bards made merry.
"Akimbo (the good guys) will be releasing our first ever concept record on Neurot Recordings. The album is called "Jersey Shores", the concept is "nature will fuck you up", and the theme is "sharks, in particular, will totally fuck you up." The subject matter we have harvested and immersed in to forge this piece of music is actually much more robust and historical than I am letting on here, but in the interest of comedy I have decided to remain base and neanderthal. Ha.
"The record is six songs, about 45 minutes long, and is an intergalactic portcullis that will unlock the secrets of time travel for the benefit of man. It was recorded in the same session as Navigating the Bronze (two albums in one session? oh yes we did) by master Chris Owens in dirty dirty dirty Louisville, KY."

HELIX frontman Brian Vollmer has issued the following update:
"I spent several days this week with John Hockley going though hours of footage taken with my Sony cam over the past couple of years. We’re taking the best scenes and putting them on a disc. Once that disc is together we’ll be editing it even more. Some of it we’ll launch on YouTube, some will go on a year end DVD, and we could even include some footage an a “bonus” DVD with the next CD. There’s a lot of potential for all of this footage. The biggest problem is what to throw out and what to keep. We may also add scenes to the upcoming video for “Fill Your Head With Rock”, possibly effecting the footage so it won’t look out of whack with the High Def. We’ll see..."
