Indianapolis' YEAR OF DESOLATION has officially been signed to Los Angeles-based Prosthetic Records. Recording for the band's Prosthetic debut will take place July 9 - 27 with seasoned producer Jamie King (Through The Eyes of The Dead, Between The Buried And Me) at the Basement Studios. The self-titled record will subsequently be released through Prosthetic in early 2007.
"We're completely stoked about working with PROSTHETIC they have some great bands and we are happy to be a part of their family," guitarist John Hehman says. "We're excited as hell to put this record out on Prosthetic, because it's definitely the best Year of Desolation stuff to date! LONG LIVE THE SHRED!!"
Originally formed in 2001 and with one full-length and one EP already under its belt, YEAR OF DESOLATION brands its sound as "melodic thrash, with absolutely zero metalcore influence," combining elements of thrash, neo classical, European progressive metal and American death metal. The band has already written a handful of material for the upcoming album, and several rough demos are available on the band's MySpace page.
In the meantime, YEAR OF DESOLATION will head out on the road with The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, having already shared the stage with God Forbid, Unearth, Six Feet Under, Ion Dissonance, and Arsis, among a slew of other contemporary metal acts in the past.

Hamburg-based GAMMA RAY featuring Kai Hansen from Helloween on lead vocals will make their only Midwest/mid-country appearance at the Rock Nightclub in Maplewood, Minnesota, on Friday, May 12, 2006. This performance will be the closing date of their first-ever US tour and the only performance that does not take place on either the east or the west coast. This will also be the band’s first-ever performance in Minnesota.
After weeks of negotiations, Nathan Block of the local independent SwordLord Productions finally secured an additional date with Gamma Ray’s agent and management after it was announced via the band’s website that only an extremely limited tour of the United States had been planned. Gamma Ray was only scheduled to play 5 dates in the United States: 3 on the east coast and 2 on the west with no stops in between.
“I am extremely grateful to John Finberg of First Row Talent out of LA and all of the management of Gamma Ray for allowing an extra date on this tour. There are many, many non-coast based fans that are going to be able to see this band now that otherwise could not have. This concert is going to be an amazing experience for many people – including myself!” says Nathan Block who is producing the show. Block’s company, SwordLord Productions has produced several first-time Minnesota appearances including Germany’s Blind Guardian and most recently Finland’s Sonata Arctica.
Co-producing the show is another independent Minnesota promoter – John McGovern of Mayhem Productions. Mayhem made headlines locally and in cyberspace with the crushing debut of Heathen Crusade in January, a showcase for many first-time European bands in Minnesota.
Special guests performing with Gamma Ray on 5/12 will be ION VEIN, Chicago’s power metal sensation and MILES BEYOND from Michigan. More bands and special events are planned and will be announced as they develop.
GAMMA RAY will be doing a meet-and-greet autograph session with fans following the Minnesota performance. Meet-and-greet sessions have been a trademark of every SwordLord Productions concert.
Tickets will go on sale on Saturday, March 11. Information about ticket locations, venue location and other information can be found by visiting MySpace.com/GammaRayMN or by emailing SwordLord2003@aol.com.

Massachusetts' ALL THAT REMAINS have been tapped to play this summer's Sounds of The Underground Europe 2006 tour. Heading back to Europe, the band will join metal and hardcore giants Chimaira, Madball, Unearth, Terror, and Manntis. "We're pretty pumped...we're excited for this tour," frontman Phil Labonte said. "Chimaira’s great, we played a month with them back in the States in August. They're really sweet, fun dudes. That’s what you want, especially when you're traveling to a foreign country: good, kind people always looking to have some fun."
Labonte also admits that Europe brings a different flair to the All That Remains live show. "The Euorpean crowds are a little different [from US crowds]," he continued. "The past two times we've been there, with Killswitch Engage and Trivim, the kids, on average, seem to get a little more excited about shows, so it's kind of refreshing."
All That Remains is currently recording the follow-up to 2004's 'This Darkened Heart' with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) and Peter Wichers (ex-Soilwork) at Zing Studios, and the Sounds of the Underground Europe tour are set to be the first live dates for the band upon completion of recording.

ELVENKING/LEPRECHAUN frontman Damnagoras has posted the following message on the LEPRECHAUN web site:
"Many things have happened in these 2 years. I got back with ELVENKING and I had a very busy period preparing the new album, then recording it and now preparing the tour for 'The Winter Wake'. Many have asked me what it's going to happen with LEPRECHAUN... many have said that I was going to give up this project and even my LEPRECHAUN bandmates are asking me what it's gonna happen. Actually the situation hasn't changed a lot... I mean, I've been very busy but in the meantime I've tried to search for a good label with which I want to release the album. At the moment I haven't found the right deal, but I'm gonna try harder. I think that the songs written for this album are really strong and they're especially part of a particular period of my life and I really want to release them sooner or later. If I can't find a good deal at this stage, I think that I will start thinking of getting LEPRECHAUN into a studio anyway and record the full length. Then, with the entire album in hand it will be easier. Anyway this project will get a release sooner or later for many reasons: 1) many fans are asking for it, 2) I want to have these songs on an album 'cause I really think they're worth it, 2) and I owe this to my band mates too: Francesco, Whisperwind and Enrico who are still supporting me and really believe in this project!"

Metallica have posted the following message on their official website:
"So there we are, hanging out at HQ getting ready for our first visit to South Africa, and a call comes in wondering if we can leave a few days early and stop by New York to induct a bunch of guys from Birmingham, England (they're called Black Sabbath, you might've heard of them) into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It took us all of 3/4 of a second to say 'fuck yeah!!'
Black Sabbath wrote the book on heavy music, and like many other snot-nosed kids, we read it religiously over and over again. For all of us in Metallica, Black Sabbath are a major influence not only on our music, but on our lives, and as you can imagine, we're psyched to join Bill, Geezer, Ozzy, and Tony for the induction ceremony on Monday, March 13.
"Not only will we be inducting Sabbath, we are going to make a humble attempt at playing some of their songs live in front of the gathered masses, including, most humbling of all, the four members of the band themselves.

Finnish metallers Insomnium are about to invade the the Fantom studio in the beginning of April to record a new album. Some crystal clear and yet brutal sounds are to be expected since Fantom is the name behind some of the best albums ever produced in Finland. The songs which are to be recorded include such dreary titles as “At the Gates of Sleep”, “The Mortal Share”, “Drawn to Black” and “The Killjoy.” The new material is clearly more aggressive, punchy and tighter than the previous album but the melancholic mood, wistful melodies, doomish passages and progressive twists are still present. “For sure this is going to be our greatest effort so far,” tells vocalist/bassist Niilo Sevänen. “This will be a very versatile album and each song will be full of nuances. There is fury and there is sorrow. Scandinavian melodic death metal at its finest!” Insomnium’s third album will be released in autumn 2006 by Candlelight Records.
In Flames will be back in the US on a headling tour in May in support of their latest album, "Come Clarity." Support will come from Throwdown, Nevermore and Evergrey. Tour dates will be announced as soon as they get confirmed.
In other news, In Flames are also confirmed for three festivals so far: Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park in Germany (June 2-4) and the Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium (June 25).
According to BrandRepublic.com, U.K. magazine giant Future Publishing has paid £2.3 million (approximately $4 million) to buy U.S. heavy metal magazine Revolver, which has a circulation of around 200,000, from Harris Publications.
Revolver and its web site will join the six titles in Future U.S.'s music portfolio, including Guitar World and Future Music.
It was launched in 2000 and now generates gross profits of $500,000 on turnover of $3.7 million.
Greg Ingham, chief executive of Future, said: "Revolver is a natural fit with our U.S. music titles and will benefit from being part of a larger music portfolio. There is also strong editorial crossover with our UK music titles Metal Hammer and Classic Rock, both of which are seeing good circulation growth at present."
Candlemass have recorded 4 new songs with producer Andy Sneap. The recording took place in the new Polar studios last weekend and the band say that they are very happy with the result.
“The songs are pretty much in the same vein as the stuff on the reunion album, maybe a bit darker” says bassist/songwriter Leif Edling. Next session will be in May. The new Candlemass album is scheduled for a release in october 2006 on Nuclear Blast Records.
On feb 7 Candlemass received a Swedish Grammy award for best hardrock/metal. The band is very proud, and it means that Candlemass finally have got the recognition they deserve in their homecountry of Sweden. It only took 20 years...

Anglo-Chilean thrashers CRIMINAL have announced Staff Glover as their new bass player, following the departure of original member Juan "Kato" Cueto. Glover had already stepped in during CRIMINAL's 2004 European tour with SIX FEET UNDER.
"It's a pity things didn’t work out with Kato, but his heart was obviously somewhere else," comments singer/guitarist Anton Reisenegger. "After recording 'Sicario' we did three shows in the U.K. with CHIMAIRA, which all went great, and everybody was very optimistic regarding CRIMINAL, but unfortunately Kato decided to return to Chile. It was a bad case of homesickness. It's great to have Staff in the band though," the frontman continues. "He’s a very solid player and a long-time friend of the band. We already had a great laugh on the SIX FEET UNDER tour. He's got this dark sense of humor which fits us perfectly. We are all in high spirits about our future as a band. Let's hope this line-up lasts for a bit longer!"
In other news, the readers of Terrorizer magazine voted CRIMINAL's latest output "Sicario" as the ninth best album of 2005.
CRIMINAL have lined up the following festival shows for the summer so far:
Jul. 22 - Urbach, GER - Zabbaduschder Festival
Aug. 25 - Gemünden, GER - Up From The Ground Festival

Hardcore progressive metal outift, Mindrought, currently one of Detroit, Michigan's best kept heavy music secret's has weathered many storms to remain a dominant force in the underground metal scene. Whether I'm listening to Mindrought's unrelenting Drama Machine or the mosh-inducing I See The End, I've found it quite easy to get quickly caught up in this band's crushing sonic approach. I went head up with this talented act's lead guitar player, TKO, and discovered so much more. More...
