Chilean heavy metal band Meridian has revealed cover art and tracklisting for its debut EP "Meridian". The release date is set for April 15th via Digmetalworld Records. Meridian is the side project of Vastator vocalist Rob 'Sr.' Diaz and Entrance guitarist Richard Pilnik and the mini album contains four tracks of classic heavy metal. More information and a lyric video for the track "Meridian" will be released in a few days.
Meridian's mini album was recorded by Richard Pilnik and Gerardo Barnechea at Kabara Musical Studios in Santiago, Chile and mastered by Richard Pilnik studios. The cover art was designed by Chaotic Kimist. Sr. Diaz commented below:
"We are putting out these tracks so people can get to know us, but we are already working on a full album to be out - we hope - by the end of this year. Meridian's sound is classic heavy metal like Mercyful fate and Judas Priest, but we still would like to add a little more aggression to it, so we are working on it as it is right now". The tracklisting of the EP "Meridian" follows:
2. All 4 One
3. Midnight Train

Cincinnati, Ohio should be on the lookout, as the New York "filthy black metal" quartet Mutilation Rites will perform there as part of the second annual "Death on the Vine" festival alongside Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Immolation, Origin and several more.
The show -- which will serve as the local stop of this year's Decibel Magazine tour -- is set to take place at Bogart's on June 8th, shortly after the band completes current headlining U.S. run with recent Relapse signees Inter Arma. Tickets for the festival are available now through Live Nation here.
Mutilation Rites is currently terrorizing the U.S. with "garagey murk and filthy grandeur" (Chicago Reader) on a headlining jaunt that recently saw the band perform several times at Austin's well-known South By Southwest festival.
In addition to "Death on the Vine," the group will also perform at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival in the coming weeks. The band continues to support debut 2012 full-length, "Empyrean." More...

Newly signed to Century Media Records, the name Vattnet Viskar has yet to be paired on disc with the popular label. However, the group has already made a name for itself on the internet. They sent a demo and a self-titled EP all around the internet, which eventually led to their signing with Century Media. Their name alone has found appeal with black metal and pagan/folk metal fans, particularly fans of atmospheric/shoe gazing bands such as Agalloch and Wolves In The Throne Room, although the group hails from the opposite side of the country—New Hampshire.
Metal Underground linked up with cinematic guitar master, Chris Alfieri at SXSW to talk about the band’s signing, their take on the festival and choice of band name. The following interview took place outside of the Mohawk bar during the Vans/Pitchfork showcase before the band played on the venue’s indoor stage. More...

Australia’s premier "true, false-slaying" heavy metal band Metal will release new full-length album "Proving Our Mettle" on Friday April 19 through iTunes and selected music stores.
The album features 11 tracks including the foot stomping anthem "Heavy Metal," the crushing ‘riff monster’ "Fighting For Metal" and the rollicking, rum-soaked sea shanty, "The Buccaneer’s Revenge."
For the uninitiated, Metal is a band straight out of the old school of traditional balls to the wall heavy metal. Think back to those heady glory days of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, and Manowar, “when men were men and songs were forged with blood, sweat and steel,” says bassist and lead singer, Rayzor Ray.
“Proving our Mettle is a bare-chested scream of defiance, and a rallying call to the true,” continues Rayzor. “It is our banner planted firmly in the ground and from here we stand and fight. Fighting for Metal is not just a song: it’s a mission statement.” More...
