Of The First Born Son has announced upcoming tour dates with Fredericton, NB based We The Undersigned. Of The First Born Son recently parted ways with guitarist Mike Rideout and bassist Curt Long. The group is currently auditioning replacements and will make an announcement shortly.
"We were disappointed that Curt and Mike decided to leave the band, but in the end it will benefit us as far as song writing for our next release goes. We just consider this a small bump in the road," says frontman Jamie Schoch. "It's always unfortunate to see people leave our family but we understand that not everyone is cut out for this business. We are dedicated, ready to continue with the tour and already have Hutton W. (ex-A Satellite Connecticut) and Paul Taylor (ex-Skylight Drama) filling in for us. Nothing will stop this band."

Don The Reader has parted ways with guitarist Taylor Hoff. Obviously unhappy with the group's depiction of his departure, Hoff has issued the following:
"Despite rumors of being kicked out, I have willingly and un-regrettably left Don the Reader. They did not kick me out, and they in no way had any choice or authority over my leaving. The blatant lies to all fans via reply to comments stating they kicked me out are false and should be looked upon as a definition of their character."
Norma Jean will enter the studio this week to begin recording their next full-length, "The Anti Mother." "We can't wait to share them, plus once it's recorded and [online] and out there we will be playing shows soon after. Anyone who is or knows of a booking agent please get in contact with us. There's a lot to talk about West Coast and Europe ideas."

We are preferably looking at someone between 18-25 based in the South Wales area and must be 1,000,000% commited with their own gear and transport. However, if you are interested and think you can do the job but live elsewhere, then get in touch. Anyone interested please send your details and previous experience to: email@example.com."

Swedish black metallers SHINING have issued the following update:
"Due to [drummer] Jarle Byberg's current situation, we have decided that we cannot go ahead with merely him in our ranks. This has nothing to do with him leaving URGEHAL last week or anything like that, but he simply hasn't got time enough to tour as much as we do, nor spending month after month in the studio. Therefore, we have now decided to let Rickard, who accompanied us on the 'Thank God For Niklas Kvarforth' tour last year, become a permanent member of SHINING."
SHINING recently tapped GORGOROTH's King Ov Hell (real name: Tom Cato Visnes) to play bass on the band's upcoming sixth studio album, entitled "Tillbaka På Ruta Ett" (Back to Square One). The CD will be recorded at The Slaughterhouse studios with producer Rickard Bengtsson beginning on April 28. More...

Classic Rock magazine's Jerry ewing recently spoke to Velvet Revolver/ former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash. Here are some excerpts:
Slash: I was talking with Robert Plant the other night and he was casually naming certain ZEPPELIN songs and then in the same breath who it was ripped off from.
Classic Rock: Did GUNS N' ROSES ever get taken to court for allegedly ripping anyone off?
Slash: No. One of the things about myself and the other members of GUNS N' ROSES, with the exception of maybe Izzy [Stradlin], 'cause he was maybe a bit more freeform, was that we were huge sticklers for anything that sounded like anything else. Straight off the bat if you played a few chords and it really reminded you of something else we scrapped it. It's very different with VELVET REVOLVER. Even though myself and Duff [McKagan] are the same way, and Matt [Sorum], Scott [Weiland] will rip something. We'll be like, "No, we can't do that," and he'll be like, "Oh, go on, let's do it," and we'll do it.
Classic Rock: Going back to VELVET REVOLVER, there's been a lot said on the Internet between Scott and Matt. What's the current state of play?
Slash: We've got six shows, ha-ha.
Classic Rock: How do you deal with that stuff flying around?
Slash: I have no comment. Obviously I'm very aware of everything that's going on. The only thing I can add to that is, in contrast to what Scott says, there will be a VELVET REVOLVER after this tour.
Classic Rock: With Scott singing?
Slash: I have no comment on that [chuckles].
Due to be released in June, Guitar Hero fans everywhere will be able to rock once more with Activisions latest announcement of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. The latest Guitar Hero instalment gives gamers the chance to play in the shoes of Whitford (guitar), Perry (guitar) and Hamilton (bass) beside drummer Kramer and frontman Tyler.
“Having a game built around Aerosmith has been a huge honour and really a great experience for us,” says Joe Perry. “We’ve put a lot of ideas into the game so that fans can have fun interacting with our music, getting inside our body of work and learning about the band’s history.”
Players will experience the legendary career of Aerosmith, from their first gig to them becoming rock royalty, whether it’s jamming at venues from historical moments in the bands career, to rocking to Aerosmith’s greatest hits like “Sweet Emotion” or - what was recently announced by Activision – playing songs from bands that had either performed with or inspired Aerosmith.
Mott the Hoople's “All the Young Dudes”, The Kinks' “All Day and All Night,” Joan Jett's “Hate Myself for Loving You” and Cheap Trick's "Dream Police." are the recent songs that have been announced for Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, to be played alongside Aerosmith’s other greatest hits within the game.
“We are extremely excited that Aerosmith chose to team up with Guitar Hero, bringing one of the world’s all-time best-selling artists together with one of the biggest video game brands, to deliver a new and unique interactive way for our customers to connect with artists and their music,” said Dusty Welch, head of publishing for Activision/RedOctane.
Many Guitar Hero 3 fans will also be pleased to hear that Guitar Hero: Aerosmith spans across a wide range of console platforms once again: Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360, allowing fans that haven’t yet upgraded to a next generation console not to be left behind.
To celebrate Guitar Hero’s collaboration with Aerosmith, Guitar Hero 3: Rock Legend fans are now able to download Aerosmith’s “Dream on” for free – which is available at the Xbox Live Marketplace for Xbox 360 and The Playstation Store for the PS3.

The second annual Rock Against Diabetes charity benefit will move from a live Vancouver venue to the sound stages of online music experience innovator Deep Rock Drive. The event will be held in Las Vegas, at the Deep Rock Drive venue on August 23rd, 2008, featuring Y&T, LA Guns, Faster Pussycat, Cliff Morrison and The Lizard Sun Band and Bang Tango. Rock against Diabetes was created in early 2007 by music writer/charity organizer and newly diagnosed diabetes sufferer/new diabetic amputee Darrin Buchanan, with the initial live event taking place on June 23rd, 2007 in Vancouver BC, starring Eric Martin of Mr. Big.
Darrin saw two very important things after his diagnosis and subsequent below-knee amputation: The need to get the word out to people, so they knew the dangers of the disease, and the need to do so in a way that was entertaining and above all cost effective for all. The goals of this annual event are to help the BC Children's Hospital Endocrinology department, to ease the pain and care of children with diabetes, and help the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in the ground-breaking diabetes research they have done in the past few years. Darrin's own initiative, self funded to this point, is to deliver an online resource to all pre-, new, and long-time diabetics that will take the mystery and confusion of eating the right foods. 88% of diabetic complications can be avoided with a proper safe diet. Further funding is needed to actually launch this program, and get the consultation from nutritionists and Endocrinologists to keep the program accurate and safe. The further vision is to start in his home city of Abbotsford, a food servoce facility to prepare these foods for diabetics in the community that are unable to cook them, or afford the proper foods.
Darrin met Danny Socolof of Deep Rock Drive in late 2007, and after a short time both saw the potential that an online worldwide broadcast could have on this very special event. Some amazing continued sponsorship from companies such as Minarik Guitars, Atari Canada and The CW TV Network and My LVTV made perfect sense to deliver this event to many people as possible, free for many to watch. An agreement was made and Deep Rock Drive offered their many services to Rock Against Diabetes for the 2008 show. People are urged to visit www.deeprockdrive.com to get a full understanding of what is to be offered from this one-of-a-kind experience.
To kick this event off in 2008, the Rock and Entertainment auctions will kick off in mid-April, with many items yet to be added, and the release of the only 100 tickets available to the live show - to see all of the bands and share in some in-house only action - will slowly become available in special auctions from the bands performing and Rock Against Diabetes. Be sure to check the Myspace page, as well as Rock Against Diabetes page for more information and add Rock Against Diabetes as a friend on Myspace, and show your support.
