The British legends in Paradise Lost are set to inject the music world with another dose of gothic metal this coming April 24th, 2012 with the new album "Tragic Idol." As the release draws closer, I had the pleasure to speak with Nick Holmes from Paradise Lost to find out what he had to say about the coming opus and how the band is doing after being together for more than 20 years.
Check out the full interview below to see what Nick had to say about how coming from the vinyl generation affects their choice of artwork, how the band records, and his love of the occult rock band Ghost. More...
Dutch occult rockers The Devil's Blood are gearing up for a near month-long run of North American dates on the forthcoming Decibel Magazine Tour alongside Behemoth, Watain and In Solitude. The band will be touring in support of "The Thousandfold Epicentre" (reviewed here) released earlier this year via Metal Blade Records.
Comments founder and band leader SL: “The Devil's Blood is proud and extremely eager to travel the New World alongside some of the world’s most dedicated metal bands. Dedicated not to some pathetic notion of ‘scene’ or ‘unity’ but to a clear, totally individual, spiritual path that although not understood by most is perhaps the most valid and urgent one available for wandering feet to travel in the twilight of the Iron Age. We share many opinions and disagree on many more, yet our offerings all speak of that great mystery which we all aspire to with passion and fury. Praise be to all those who accompany us on this particular path.”

Portuguese gothic metal band Moonspell will be releasing the new album "Alpha Noir" on April 27th, 2012 through Napalm Records. The band has now issued the following statement about answering fan questions about the album:
"Dear all. Thanks for your questions. Here are our answers. Hope you enjoy them. We’re sorry about the delay. Busy times. Before we get to them, there were many questions asked about our live dates. They are very appreciated as we can’t wait to visit your countries and give you a taste of what we mean by Alpha and Omega while recreating our more vintage sets which the crowds have been responding so well.
"So far it’s the album coming with all its great and delicate foreplay. As for live dates besides the release show in Lisbon, Wacken and Brutal Assault, and the RTN Metalfests; our agents are working their hardest to book more around Europe and we will have those news for you soon enough. We have in the meanwhile confirmed new dates like Getaway Rock in Sweden, Dokken’ Open Air in Holland and MetalItalia in...Italia ;) near Milano. We will also confirmed the club shows in Greece and look forward for a quick confirmation of headliner shows in Turkey and Bulgária, around those dates. A European tour confirmation will be announced next Friday the 13th of April.
"As for South America, we are surprised about how many people from Brazil are writing us and for sure we will follow the deal and hope to do a more extensive tour in the country, rather than just one off date. Mexico and Colombia are in the plans but I guess Latin and North America will have to wait for after the Summer to see Moonspell live. But it will be worthy it. On top of that, Napalm Records is dealing with licensing deals over there and we will make our best to have our new album available in all territories. In the meanwhile, open some red and sit back, enjoying this album’s first fan interview."
Danial Honarbakhsh To Ricardo: What is the story of everything invaded solo? Did you write it or just hit record button and play? I ask because it's the most amazing piece of music that I heard.
Ricardo: Thank you for the warm comments on that solo. It means a lot to me. Well, for me a solo is like a small song inside the main song. Usually, it means that I get around 40 seconds of music where I must fit the right "small song". Sometimes I get lucky and it takes me 10 minutes to find the right sequence of notes that I'll use to play a solo that fits the music and empowers it's meaning. But it also can be very frustrating sometimes... For instance, it took me around 3 months to find the solo for scorpion flower! It's not about the amount of notes you can play but the way you display them, and sometimes the right display simply doesn't appear as fast as I wish it would. But for the song "everything invaded" I guess I was lucky. There's no big story around it, it was just the right inspiration at the right time. Just like a perfect alignment of planets.

Today Cvlt Nation is hosting an exclusive track premiere of “The Earth In One Cell” from U.S. Christmas mastermind Nate Hall. Following several LPs released under the Neurot Recordings banner, this May the founding USX vocalist/guitarist will release his first solo full-length entitled "A Great River."
Comments Hall on the track: “’The Earth In One Cell’ has been kicking around in my brain for years before I got it right and ready to record. In a way, it was a catalyst for the whole album, because once I got it done the rest followed quickly. I used a capo on the twelfth fret of my electric guitar to get the chimey string sound. It was a natural song to start the record.”
Check out “The Earth In One Cell,” the opening track to the record, at this location.
Set for European release on May 7th and in North America on May 8th, "A Great River," which rock/doom portal The Obelisk crowns a “…beautiful and lush work of a songwriter beginning what will hopefully be a long journey," offers up a lush landscape of pastoral richness. Recorded in March 2011 by Travis Kammeyer at Fahrenheit Studio in Johnson City, Tennessee, the work draws from the musical history of America, the melancholy of Appalachia, and harnesses the “electric vacuum roar” of guitar slingers past and present.
Turn on your TV’s and throw those horns in the air because Machine Head’s Robb Flynn will appear on this weekend’s season premiere episode of VH1 Classic’s That Metal Show with Metallica’s Lars Ulrich.
A sneak peek of the episode is available now at this location and features Robb and Lars discussing a few wild nights on tour. The episode will air this Saturday, March 31st at 11pm ET/10pm CT. Tune in for the episode and keep alert for more Machine Head updates coming soon.
Machine Head bludgeoned onto the charts last fall with a #22 Billboard Top 200 chart debut for the new album, "Unto The Locust." Released in North America on September 27th, 2011 "Unto The Locust" was voted #1 on Sirius XM Liquid Metal, #2 in Revolver Magazine’s end-of-year list, and #31 in Decibel Magazine’s Top 100 of 2011, just to name a few.
Prong has another album on the horizon. “Carved Into Stone” hits retail outlets on April 24th, 2012 (hear the new track "Eternal Heat"). Vocalist/guitarist/founder Tommy Victor stated it’s the quintessential Prong album, which covers a lot of ground. Their down tuned guitar grooves and pseudo-hardcore vocals are unmistakable. One facet of Prong’s music that makes the unique is they are hard to pigeon hole into any one sub-genre. From thrash to hardcore to alternative and on to industrial—Prong records are a cornucopia of styles.
Prong’s output in the ‘90s played a pivotal role in the direction metal would take in the 1990s, especially the band’s groove. Singles such as “Prove You Wrong,” “Broken Pieces” and “Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck” became staples on MTV’s “Headbanger’s Ball,” leading to tours with Pantera and Sepultura.
Prong’s discography has been fragmented since releasing “Cleansing,” the album that produced “Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck.” Much of this can be explained by looking at Victor’s time in Danzig and Ministry. He can’t devote the time to Prong that he could in the ‘80s and early ‘90s. Currently, Victor has set his sights on promoting and touring with Prong, his own creation. Metal Underground spoke to Victor about managing his time between bands, an upcoming tour with Crowbar and why “Carved Into Stone” is the definitive Prong record. More...

Luca Turilli has finally made the long awaited announcement as to the new Luca Turilli's Rhapsody singer, which has been bestowed upon Alessandro Conti (Trick or Treat). The following announcement was made on the band's website:
"[T]oday, March 30th 2012, is a great and very important day for our band. We are finally proud to present the new singer of LT’S RHAPSODY to the world, the person who, thanks to his unique vocal talent, will contribute to the artistic perspectives of the band in the years to come. The secret is finally revealed: the new singer is Italian and his name is ALESSANDRO CONTI."
Luca Turilli commented: "Alessandro is the singer of our band since many months already but we wanted to present him in the way he deserves, and this means: through his voice!. For this 11th RHAPSODY album we wanted to have a singer able to sing in different ways and offering different ‘colors’. Such ability is fundamental for me as in every RHAPSODY album I like to compose different styles of songs, passing from the most cinematic and epic impact of some songs to the operatic majesty of other ones, from celestial voices to more aggressive tones. Alessandro was just the best choice in this sense as, in between the multitude of all his vocal colors, he has a great high tone but also an operatic approach that makes the difference. He studied at the ‘Corale Lirica Rossini’ of Modena as first tenor, the same school attended by the great and unforgettable Luciano Pavarotti." More...
