Russia's Grenouer has signed with Mausoleum Records for the release of seventh full-length album “Blood on the Face.” The CD is scheduled for release in Europe on May 3rd, 2013 and North America on July 9th, 2013. The band also comments:
"Initially that album was set to see light through USA based label The Metal Den Records (individually run by Randy Rocket Cody) under the title 'Showdawn' in August 2012, yet that label started to exercise incompetence pushing down the release for later dates, disintegrating the album into separate iTunes singles without the band’s consent and providing lame promo activities. Grenouer was forced to break the contract and after a while entered in agreement with authoritative Mausoleum Records. Mausoleum Records suggested new album title, 'Blood on the Face,' and naturally new front cover picture done by Didier Scohier, Artcore Design."
The album's track listing is as follows:
1. Intro: Thunder Phase
2. Blood on the Face
3. Sands of Silence
4. Midday Show
5. Golden Years
7. Fix Your Life / A Few Miles from Paradise
8. The Taste of Misery
9. Brain Fever
10. See No Sun
11. Last Stop
12. All in the Suit That You Wear More...
Blending together prog rock and metal, Vancouver's Anciients recently signed to Season of Mist and is now gearing up to release the "Heart of Oak" album.
What can fans expect from the disc? According to a press release, something truly spectacular: "Somewhere between sheer, apocalyptic heaviness and precise riffing, lays otherworldly Anciients - a rock juggernaut forging crushing heavy metal evocative of veterans High on Fire and contemporary sonic craftsmen, Opeth."
This coming April 16th you'll get the chance to find out if the band lives up that lofty pedigree (you can also check out an advance track below), and pre-orders are available through Season of Mist at this location.
With another two and a half weeks to go before the album's official drop, guitarists/vocalists Chris and Kenny corresponded with Metalunderground.com to explain how the band reached this point and what went into the creation of "Heart of Oak." Find out about the hardships and loss the group suffered during the writing and recording, along with a full track-by-track breakdown of the release, through the full interview below. More...
Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats is preparing to release a third full-length album - "Mind Control" is set for release on April 15th via Rise Above Records in Europe and May 14th via Metal Blade Records in North America.
Within its blood soaked grooves you will hear shocking tales of bizarre desert ceremonies, religious brainwashing, and drug inspired mass slaughter. Check out the song "Poison Apple" below, or order the album at this location. Metal Blade Records also comments:
"Imagine the original Alice Cooper band jamming in a cell with early Black Sabbath and the Stooges, whilst sitting on murder charges and you may get a glimpse into their fuzzed up world of exploding tube amps and cymbal smashing mayhem. However, this enticing act of musical manipulation is merely the icing upon a very sick cake.
"Mind Control is a concept album with a theme that makes the acts and intentions of the likes of Charles Manson and Jim Jones seem like petty crimes. What makes Mind Control scarier than most albums is that it doesn't seem as sinister on the surface as it really is deep down, within the core of its black acid-drenched world of pain and torture.
"Recorded at the legendary Chapel Studios over an autumnal full moon using the finest western electrical technology, engineer Jim Spencer (Bert Jansch, Robert Wyatt) has captured perfectly the bands live sound of saturated fuzz, mind-bending riffs and 60's vocal harmonies." More...
Recently in Hollywood, CA, Anthrax - headlining the Metal Alliance Tour - played to a sold-out crowd at the House of Blues.
But the fans got a little more than Anthrax playing the "Among The Living" album front-to-back, or songs from the just-released covers EP, "Anthems" (reviewed here).
Joining Anthrax on stage for the AC/DC cover of "T.N.T." was none other than Slash, who played lead on the song, and then, later in the show, Chuck D came out for "Bring The Noise," the song Anthrax and Public Enemy recorded together in 1991.
Also in the House were Slayer's Kerry King, John Tempesta from The Cult, Justin Chandellor from Tool, Dethklok/Metalocalpyse's Brendon Small, and actor/musician Brian Posehn.
The Metal Alliance Tour, that also features Exodus, High on Fire, Municipal Waste and Holy Grail, will be touring the country through late April. Remaining dates are below. More...
Recently out of hibernation, Portland label Eolian Empire is preparing to release the most ambitious and dedicated project on ITS diverse roster this Spring, with the newly-completed "Keep Our Heads" label compilation. The following press release was issued about the compilation:
"The tiny D.I.Y. label more focused on maintaining a kinship with their regional underground music scene than attaining national acts or breaking into charts, the clan at Eolian has literally dedicated thousands of hours to arranging, collecting, compiling, mixing and preparing this massive offering of what they consider the best of their local underground, with Keep Our Heads.
"Aligning metal, sludge, doom, prog, punk, rock, thrash, hardcore, noise and unclassifiable anti-genre acts from across the region into a herculean ninety-nine-minute soundtrack to the Portland heavy underground, Keep Our Heads bears twenty-six exclusive tracks from stalwarts in the scene, like some twisted, many-headed beast raised on the soundtracks to River's Edge, Lost Highway, and Repo Man, practically all the tracks recorded in Portland specifically for this release.
"Keep our Haeds features acts: Acre, The Ax, Big Black Cloud, Crag Dweller, Diesto, Drunk Dad, Fist Fite, Gaytheist, Gone to Croatoan, Honduran, Hot Victory, Humours, Ix, LKN, Lord Dying, Nasalrod, Norska, Order of the Gash, Palo Verde, Prizehog, Rabbits, Redneck, Sei Hexe, Sioux, Tiny Knives, and Towers. The comp will see release digitally and on a limited-run cassette on May 1st, the cassette run including both a digital download and a slick beer koozie. View the full track/band listing below, and place pre-orders here."
As a public preview to Keep Our Heads, The Obelisk has released a brand new track from riff-crushers Diesto -- a precursor for the band’s upcoming LP on Eolian this Summer -- alongside a peek at what is going on with this comp. Check it out right here. More...

Bozeman, Montana based dark metallers Nequiter have recently finished tracking their debut EP at the Music Tech Center with engineer/producer David Hearst (Scattershock).
They are currently in the process of mixing the effort, which will be mastered at Earth in Sound Studios by Jason Walton (Agalloch, Sol Invictus) for a late summer/early fall 2013 release. Expect pure chaos. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"Drawing influences from many sub-genres of metal, Nequiter was conceived in the autumn of 2009 and have been very busy ever since. They shied away from the excessive gigging that never seems to make and mostly breaks many local acts from the area, to take the time to craft some of the most abrasive, heavy and fast, yet beautiful, soft and melodic sounds Big Sky Country has ever heard.
"Strangely nothing else is really known of this sonic entity with the member's identities being unknown. More...

Even though recent warnings of new hymns from apocalyptic sludge ministers The Body have been released, you have failed to listen and repent, and now it appears it’s too late, as today the first of three new orations has been revealed.
The prophetic new hymnal from The Body, "Master, We Perish" is a three-song prelude to mankind’s demise, a message which can be felt firsthand with the opening mantra, “The Ebb And Flow Of Tides In A Sea Of Ash.”
The distressing wail of an air-raid siren barely has time to sound before the listener is inundated in the oppressive surge of The Body’s patented form of primal, anti-life worship. Experience the track through Pitchfork here. The following press release was also issued about the new album:
"'Master, We Perish' was captured at Providence, Rhode Island-based Machines With Magnets (Battles, Daughters, Lightning Bolt, Chinese Stars). Blackened bursts of noise-drenched, low-fi doom are fueled by percussionist Lee Buford’s hypnotic, tribal rhythms via thunderous macaroni drums, the melee infiltrated by guitarist/vocalist Chip King’s penetrating vocal screech. Dutch death metal act Khaoz has checked in with the following announcement about delaying recording for a new album:

Opeth guitarist Fredrik Åkesson was recently interviewed by Australia's Loudmag, and during the course of the conversation, revealed that the band is writing material for a next studio album and follow-up to "Heritage" (reivewed here).
According to Fredrik, the next record will go "in a somewhat different direction to Heritage. It won't be a step back, but it will be different. Maybe more intense in a way. You'll have to wait and see! I was in the studio today and put down my solos and I was very happy about it. The song I heard that Mikael [Åkerfeldt] wrote today sounds very cool. I think that's all I can say at this point!"
He says the band is planning to re-enter the studio this fall, perhaps at the end of September. Stay tuned for further details.
Opeth will be touring North America next month, and a full list of tour dates can be found at this location.

Liar in Wait, a new band comprised of present and past members of Wolvhammer, Chrome Waves, Nachtmystium, Mourner, and Iron Thrones, have completed work on debut EP “Translations Of The Lost.” Profound Lore Records comments:
"Comprised of four tracks (one being the band’s rendition of the Fields Of The Nephilim classic 'And There Will Your Heart Be Also'), Liar in Wait create music of a very morose drowning nature that finds the band recalling and being inspired by the classic goth/darkwave movement found inherent with such luminary artists as The Cure, The Sisters Of Mercy, Fields of The Nephilim, along with being indebted sonically towards more recent artists such as Soror Dolorosa and Cold Cave.
"Ultimately and already with this debut offering, Liar in Wait have already created a distinct sound defining themselves, one that will carry over and develop as they begin to compose their imminent debut LP."
To be released officially on May 28th, the track listing is as follows:
2. Conversations In Violet
3. Fall With Me
4. And There Will Your Heart Be Also More...

The music video was premiered at the Indie Recordings Label Night at the Inferno Festival in Oslo, Norway yesterday. The label comments on the clip:
"'Introspection' shows the band from a more serious and mature side than before. The band also brings more of their 80's inspiration into this track with Obsidian C. showing a lot more of his impressive solo skills.

Chris Hathcock of The Reticent has returned to the realm of extreme music in the form of black metal project, Zeromus. In the vein of bands such as Gorgoroth and Dark Funeral, Zeromus is a straight forward and grim expression of aggression.
"I just needed to do something different. The Reticent offers me a lot of emotional release but sometimes you need to just be outright hostile. Rather than sing you just want to scream with as much hatred as you can muster. I love bands like Gorgoroth for their intensity, aggression, and disregard. This is just my diversion to create and release that hostility and have some fun."
Hathcock said he plans to release an album with Zeromus. An EP titled "The Four Fiends" is in the works but release may be delayed due to his work with The Reticent. Two demo tracks have been posted on reverbnation and can be played below.

Portland’s punk/metal delinquents Toxic Holocaust recently unleashed a new lyric video for “Agony of the Damned.” Check it out below.
Initially featured on the band’s 2011 "Conjure and Command" full-length, “Agony Of The Damned” makes an updated appearance on the "From The Ashes Of Nuclear Destruction" compilation, set for release via Relapse Records next month.
Elaborates band mastermind Joel Grind: “This version of ‘Agony of the Damned’ was recorded in September of 2010 with a drum machine a few months before we stepped into the studio to record the one that appears on Conjure and Command. When making an album, I usually demo out the entire thing before I step into a studio. This keeps costs low and gives me time to sit with it to iron out the details. Since Conjure and Command was the first Toxic record to feature a full band, this demo served the purpose of familiarizing everyone with the new material and is previously unreleased.” More...

Legendary Bay Area thrash metallers Death Angel will enter AudioHammer Studios next month to begin recording the follow-up to their 2010 release, "Relentless Retribution." Guitarist Rob Cavestany recently checked in to give the following update:
“After nearly 3 years of nonstop touring for Relentless Retribution, we are about to enter the studio to record our seventh album! We are playing the final show of the Relentless Retribution Tour on March 31st in Holland, fly home for a few days of final pre-production rehearsals in Oakland, then begin tracking in Florida on April 8th.
"Relentless turned out the way we wanted so we we're taking it to the next level with the same team. The new album will be done at AudioHammer Studios with Jason Suecof and I producing. We had a blast doing the last record there and now we know each other better and how well we work together... plus the album cover art is being done by Brent Elliot White who did Relentless Retribution. Let's just say we have a good feeling about this one.
"It was our idea all along to go directly into the studio following the end of this tour, without taking time off. We always take a break after an album's touring cycle ends. You basically have to after spending so much time on the road, traveling and performing constantly. But not this time! This tour is the longest one we've ever done and that live energy is in our new songs! The glory and the heartache, it's all there. More...

While we do respect the rights of other bands and artists who want to charge for their music upfront, we believe in this new method of exposure and it’s something we are willing to explore for the foreseeable future in this digital age of abundance.” More...

Israel-based multinational act Reign of the Architect will release debut album, "Rise," via Pitch Black Records this coming April 16th (USA May 14th). This ambitious, genre-crossing project has taken nearly five years to come to fruition, seeing lineup changes and many challenges before finally arriving at its destination.
Now, Metalunderground.com is proud to bring you a cross section of this hard-to-define album through an exclusive premiere of four new tracks. You can hear "False," "Such a Celebration," "The Green Flame," and "We Must Retaliate" through the player below (the songs may take a moment to load after hitting "play").
While the death-prog-power-opera album itself covers a huge range of sound, these tracks provide an interesting overview of some of both the heavier and softer moments to be found.
The album features art by metal favorite and world renowned artist Eliran Kantor, and the concept behind the music involves a love triangle and alien forces destroying life on earth. For more info on the release and how it came together, check out our interview here with band mastermind Yuval Kramer.
The "Rise" track listing is as follows:
