Hate Eternal Comments On New Album

Hate Eternal is set to drop "Phoenix Amongst the Ashes," the follow up to the band's 2008 behemoth "Fury & Flames," on May 10th through Metal Blade Records. Hate Eternal recorded the studio album at front man Erik Rutan's own Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, FL with mastering handled by Alan Douches.

Commented Rutan: "Phoenix Amongst the Ashes is an album that we as a band worked so very hard on to achieve a record of mammoth dynamic proportions. Jade, J.J and I gave everything we had to make a death metal record that would incorporate a balance of speed, heaviness, melody, and pure power. Every song we labored over to have stand out with originality, individuality and unique creativity. We feel we accomplished everything we set out to do with this album and are very proud of the results; we hope you all will agree…"

The first single off of "Phoenix Amongst the Ashes," titled "Haunting Abound," can now be heard on the band's landing page at this location.

Erik Rutan comments on the first single: "Haunting Abound is a song that we feel carries the intensity and the vibe of traditional Hate Eternal, yet explores new territory with a certain heaviness that has never been presented before in a Hate Eternal song. Infusing more dynamics and expanding our sound whilst retaining the integrity and ferocity that fans expect from us. This is only a small taste of things to come upon listening to Phoenix Amongst The Ashes…"

The track listing is as follows:

1. Rebirth
2. The Eternal Ruler
3. Thorns of Acacia
4. Haunting Abound
5. The Art of Redemption
6. Phoenix Amongst the Ashes
7. Deathveil
8. Hatesworn
9. Lake Ablaze
10. The Fire of Resurrection

Pit Stories: St. Louis Havok House Show

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories from metal shows. In this week's edition of Pit Stories, vocalist David Sanchez of up and coming thrash band Havok tells a tale of a house show gone out of control.

Every time we play a house show in St. Louis, it has been completely insane. We haven’t played a house show out there in a few years, but the last show we played was in somebody’s basement. The crowd punched out the ceiling of the basement completely. They punched out every tile so the ground was covered with dust and pieces of drywall. Also at that same show somebody jumped up onto the ventilation system for the house and knocked it down from the ceiling, so that was on the ground, there was dust and debris everywhere, and then apparently somebody threw a bunch of kitty litter in the toilet. So the toilet had to be removed from house that same night. So every time we play in St. Louis something crazy happens.

Havok released the new album "Time is Up" today, and the folks over at MetalSucks.net are currently streaming the entire release online. Head over here for details. You can also check out Metalunderground.com's interview with Havok about the new album at this location.

Be sure to check back next Tuesday for more pit stories.

Aborted Announces New Album Details

Belgian death metal veterans Aborted will begin recording their seventh full length record from June onwards at the infamous Hansen Studios with producer Jacob Hansen (Invocator, Hatesphere, Volbeat). The band will be recording over 15 tracks for the album, currently titled "Global Flatline." The album will contain 12 tracks with additional bonus material featured on limited editions.

The artwork for "Global Flatline" will once again be handled by Justin Osbourne who previously worked with the band on its 2010 EP "Coronary Reconstruction" as well. Since 2011 marks the ten year anniversary of Aborted's "Engineering The Dead" record, the band decided to re-record two tracks of the album as part of the bonus material for "Global Flatline." You can vote for your favorite "Engineering The Dead" songs on the band's Facebook Page at this location.

Vocalist Sven de Caluwé comments:

"We are thrilled to be finally recording 'Global Flatline' and have the material out there. It is exciting in many ways, one being that this might be one of the most important records in Aborted's career. We really took our time in composing the most heavy and uncompromising material the band has written to date. Some of the material is faster than ever, some of the material is slower than ever, some old school and some new school, inspired by all eras of Aborted, yet still sounding unique on its own. Writing this record definitely took us back to the roots of why we started playing this kind of music in the first place, the passion and adrenaline you get from playing extreme metal. More...

Svartsot Comments On Support Band Change

Svartsot has checked in with the following comment about changing the support act for the band's upcoming April 29th live show:

"Forcentury will be replacing Illnath as the support act for our show at Klauzdal in Herlev (DK) on April 29th. Our decision is based purely on the fact that Illnath has already played a show at the same venue in March this year (less than one and a half months prior to our show).

"We therefore no longer feel that Illnath are a suitable support act due to the short space of time between the two shows. Any rumors that there should be any other reason behind the decision are unfounded. We apologize to any Illnath fans who had been planning to attend the show."

Leaves' Eyes Comments On "Meredead" Album

Guitarist Thorsten Bauer of Leaves' Eyes has checked in with the following statement about the band's new album "Meredead:"

"I would like to take the chance to talk about two of the most epic, elaborate and distinct songs on our new album 'Meredead.' They were also among the most time intensive ones to write and record, since both have very long and unique song structures. They also feature many different natural sound sources like marching snares, choirs, orchestra, uilleann pipes, Irish whistles and mandolins. Recording such songs is always a big challenge and excitement at the same time. And I hope that you will hear the passion, hard work and dedication that we put into these songs.

"Spirits' Masquerade: The doomy start of that song with its' dynamic choirs and marching snare drums would just be the perfect soundtrack to march into war. At the same time the song comes along in an unusual time signature with heavy and almost 'proggy' staccato guitars, like on Njords 'Ragnarok.' The Uilleann pipes and the mandoline both set a short moment of hope, before the band jumps into the very heavy verse and chorus to bring back an atmosphere of doom. I like very much how Livs voice is supporting the dynamics and dramatic of the song and also the way she is singing along with the choir, pretty unique. Just when you think the end of the song and total doom has come, a whole new world opens. Irish whistles, Livs voice and later the choir put you somewhere on the green island of Ireland. The dynamic range of the song is really mind blowing and I get goosebumps in that song part every time I hear it, before the song is building up again towards a massive and epic final. Yes, I always liked the endings of old Manowar songs like 'Battle hymns' and 'Black Wind, Fire and Steel.' Epic Metal! More...

Haeresiarchs Of Dis Announces New Album Title

Main man Cernunnos of Hæresiarchs of Dis has announced the band's next full-length album, to be released through Moribund Cult Records, will be entitled "Sermon 31: Clavicles 1-6 the Third Trine of Satyr's Cross."

A press release detailing the album reads as follows:

"Track listing is currently set as a series of six verses. Cernnunos stated that the album is a conceptual piece and more ambitious in concept. Consisting of a series of interlinking tracks using a transcribed piece of linear text, the work will tell (or 'foretell') of a possible future event triggered by the folly of humanity described as a place called Satyr's Cross. Part speculative fiction, philosophy, religious dogma, and enlightenment of the soul through desecration of the human spirit, Cernnunos suggests late 2011 for release."

Hæresiarchs of Dis will also be releasing "In Obsecration of the Seven Darks" on April 19th through Moribund Cult Records.

Borknagar Signs With Century Media

Borknagar has inked a three-album deal with Century Media Records. The band is currently working on material for its new CD, tentatively due in early 2012. Commented Borknagar mainman Øystein G. Brun:

"Well, sometimes life takes slightly unexpected yet great turns! Due to internal business affairs, the deal with Indie recordings was mutually terminated by both parties in January 2011. Since then we have been negotiating a possible re-signing with Century Media Records. While you are reading this, Jens F. Ryland and I are at the headquarters of Century Media Records in Dortmund to ink a new deal with our old partners in crime. It feels very good to be back in the fold of the mighty Century family; there is simply no team, no label alike.

"Thanks to Jens Preuter (head of A&R), we have worked out and landed a deal that we are 110 percent sure will serve the future endeavors of Borknagar in the best possible and most potent way. We share so much history with Century Media Records and we are now preparing to create more musical history for the future to come — together with our friends at the Century family!"

Added Preuter: "We are very proud to welcome back such a great and highly influential band. Whether you want to call it black, progressive, Viking, folk or whatever metal, Borknagar always managed to be just themselves on a unique and high level.

"I already heard some pre-production demos from the upcoming album and I can tell you it will be not just another masterpiece, but probably the best material they've done so far."

If you live near Dortmund, Germany, you can come by the Die Burg bar this Thursday evening, March 29th and party with Øystein G. Brun, Jens F. Ryland and the Century Media crew.

Thaurorod Recruits New Keyboardist

Finnish act Thaurorod, which recently finished the Power of Metal tour with Symphony X and Nevermore, has announced the recruitment of new keyboardist Vili Ollila. Vili has worked as a professional keyboardist - live, studio and teaching - and played alongside
Finland's pop/rock/metal musicians: most recently with Raskasta Joulua ("Heavy Christmas") and Northern Kings projects.

Vili commented on joining the band:

"When I was asked to join the band very late in 2010, I had already other obligations signed & sealed for the early spring of 2011. After attending a few rehearsals with the guys, listening to some new kick-ass T-Rod tracks and sharing a stage with them prior to Power Of Metal tour really convinced me that I definitely want to be a part of a group this motivated and talented! Sadly, I couldn't attend the POM tour and that nearly broke my heart - still I'm glad that the guys understood my situation and I'd also like to extend my thanks to talented Mika Karjalainen who helped T-Rod out in their hour of need. I'm really looking forward to our next shows, especially at Metalfest and Metalcamp, and I'm also pretty stoked about the pre-production and finishing the songwriting process for the next T-Rod album. Full speed ahead! Hope to see you on tour anytime soon."

The band's statement about Vili joining the fold reads as follows: More...
