While Heaven Wept's Tom Phillips recently issued a statement on upcoming shows and planned releases:
"There has been an incredible amount of activity going on 'behind-the-scenes' since the amazing experience that was Hammer Of Doom 3, and while I'm not at liberty to discuss everything just yet, I wanted to let everyone know about a handful of gigs that we've recently confirmed our participation in:
July 2nd/3rd, 2010: Born To Be Doomed Festival, The Sidebar Tavern, Baltimore, Maryland, USA with Blood Farmers, Orodruin, Revelation, Iron Man, Cyrus, Blizaro, Age Of Taurus, Sanctus Bellum, Black Cowgirl, and Yet So Far (aka the "Yet So Far" and "Frozen Masque" line-up of Revelation, including our own Jim Hunter) plus 3 more bands TBA
July 6th-10th, 2010: Metalcamp, Metal Camp Festival Area, Tolmin, Slovenia with Immortal, Behemoth, Hammerfall, Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, Nevermore, Sonata Arctica, Paradise Lost, Obituary, Exodus, Sabaton, Overkill, Korpiklaani, Leave's Eyes, Ensiferum, Equilibrium, The Exploited, Decapitated, Epica, Insomnium, Kalmah, The Devil's Blood, Crowbar, Ex Deo, Rotting Christ, Trail Of Tears, Suicidal Angels, Demonical, and MANY more!
March 11th/12th, 2011: Up The Hammers VI, An Club, Athens, Greece with Ruthless (US), Jaguar (UK), Martyr (NL), Emerald (CH), Wishdoom (GR) and many more TBA
"As we get closer to these events, we'll post specific information regarding the dates and times that we are scheduled to perform. We are also in the process of planning additional US and EU dates right now, so keep your ears and eyes open for quite a few more gigs TBA.
"On the release front, we are very pleased to announce a new 7" single for 'Vessel' will be released via a joint cooperation between Maniacal Records and High Roller Records in the next 8 weeks or so. The A side will feature the 'Single Edit Version' previously only available on the download-only 'Vast Oceans Lachrymose Singles EP' (and streaming here on MySpace), while the B side will feature the previously unreleased alternate mix/master taken from the EU media promo - never made available to the general public.
"Over the summer, we'll continue our commemoration of our 20th Anniversary with the release of the long out-of-print 'Lovesongs Of The Forsaken' EP on 180g vinyl - and depending upon what sources I'm able to locate in the WHW archives, this may in fact be expanded with related material. Either way, this will once again be housed in a heavy sleeve and retain a similar layout to the other vinyl released earlier this year (which have been sold out since the pre-order phase). This will once again be a limited edition, and at this time, there are no plans for a CD pressing.
"We are aware of the ongoing demand for our past releases and the outrageous prices the limited editions are already commanding on eBay - please be patient with us while we discuss various options and possibilities. I assure you, at some point we will re-release both 'Sorrow Of The Angels' and 'Of Empires Forlorn' in an unlimited capacity; big plans exist for these, however our focus right now is upon the ongoing live shows in support of "Vast Oceans Lachrymose" and rehearsing the material for 'Fear Of Infinity' - which we hope to begin recording as soon as humanly possible.
"We're very much looking forward to seeing everyone out on the road, and extend our deep thanks to everyone who has already come out to one of our shows this year. Thanks also to everyone who voted for WHW in the various 2009 year-end polls!"
Virginia based metallers Arsis have announced they will be supporting Dying Fetus on their upcoming “Facemelter Tour” this May/June. The other bands on the bill are Misery Index, Annotations of an Autopsy, and Conducting from the Grave. Arsis issued the following statement about the tour:
“Well this tour should be just a little bit intense! We're taking bets on how many babies die on the bus this time out. Odds are we reach triple digits this time. We have to maintain thematic unity in this music, you know. Looking forward to getting to some areas of the US we haven't been to in a while, visiting friends, causing injuries (hopefully not to ourselves), and all that. See you soon!”

Norway's Devar has checked in with the following update from the road:
"So we've done a couple more gigs now. First was Bratislava. That was a cool venue! And if we had stayed there long enough, we could have checked the city out. Then we headed back to Germany for a couple of more shows. First was the Cottbus one where the really cool pictures came from in our previous blog, than there was Rostock. Der Alte Zuckerfabrik is not the place to be in Germany. What a fucked up place. We're never putting our feet there again. Drinking was the only solution. We drank to forget. OttoEgil especially did a good job there... Next place however in Greifswald was killer! Great venue, great turn-up and a great gig. And what an epic shower!
"Day off in Hamburg was great! We spent some time here and got really accustomed to the local cuisine. Otto tasted the Eisbein (feet of Pig). He even claimed to like it=) Tonight's gig was also a really cool one. Low turn up on a monday, but we kicked arse nonetheless. Now we've got 4 dates in the Netherlands and one in Belgium, and then we're hitting Bergen again. ...hard!"
Devar's upcoming tour dates are as follows: More...

Katatonia's session guitarist Per "Sodomizer" Eriksson has checked in from the road with a new tour blog at Ultimate-Guitar.com. An excerpt from the report follows:
"I thought I would start off by introducing myself for those who doesn't already know who I am. My name is Per 'Sodomizer' Eriksson and I'm the session guitar player for Katatonia on this tour. Some of you might know me from Bloodbath or from earlier Katatonia shows, as I have been working with the band for over 6 years as their Guitar and back-line tech. So enough with that and let's get on with the tour diary...
"Luxembourg 15/3: Woke up in the bus with all my clothes on, like almost every day on this tour. Although the UK had been a lot better than I would have expected, It felt nice to be back on the mainland. I immediately went for the showers, which turned out to be one of the coldest showers I'd ever taken. Felt like someone was trying to give me a lobotomy while I was washing my hair but a shower is always a shower and you really have to seize the moment when you get it. Because of some Russian visa problems, our guitar tech, Soldier, had to stay in the UK to pick up his passport and we were lucky to have Dave from Long Distance Calling filling in and taking care of our guitar changes. Everyone loves covering and mashing up Metallica, and Metal Injection delivers with the latest mashup: a smooth jazz version of "Enter Sandman" dubbed over a live video of the band (with vocals). Check it out below.
The 11th Hour guitarist Ed Warby has issued the following update about the band recruiting a new live member:
"It is with great pleasure that I welcome my former Gorefest buddy Frank Harthoorn to the triple axe live incarnation of The 11th Hour! He’ll be sharing the stage with us at all upcoming gigs including the renowned Doom Shall Rise festival in Göppingen (9th of april). This means we’re saying goodbye to Petra Guijt who will of course continue to perform with her bands Deadcell and Toxocara, we wish her all the best with her future musical endeavours!
"Frank meanwhile has mastered the 6 chapters of doom that comprise The 11th Hour's debut album Burden Of Grief and adds considerable weight to the already massive live-sound. His dedication to delivering the Riff, the whole Riff, and nothing but the Riff is legendary (at least it is to me) and I look forward to exploring the road to musical misery with this new yet old companion. Portland, Maine progressive gothic metal band By Blood Alone has announced the following East Coast US tour dates:
April 1 - Ralph's Diner, Worcester, MA
April 2 - The Fuzebox, Albany, NY
April 3 - New Wave Cafe, New Bedford, MA
October 30 - Furfright 2010 - Cromwell, CT
Guitarist John Graveside comments, "If you're new to By Blood Alone, you'll get 45 minutes of breathtakingly dark progressive rock, unlike anything you've heard before. If you HAVE seen us previously, you know to expect the unexpected. For some reason when we are onstage people really study our music. They watch very quietly and only make a sound when they cheer at the end of songs. It's sort of like a classical concert or a scene from 'Monterrey Pop', and after 5 years in the band still a tad unnerving." More...
British death thrashers Ravens Creed have issued the following update regarding the search for a permanent vocalist:
"Whilst tidying up loose ends on new songs in TENKO, Jay and myself talked about what we were going to do for a vocalist when the next lp is out. We debated back and forth the pros and cons of the sistuation we are in at the moment (for those who are unaware: Ben has left, Iscariah is doing vocals on our next lp and we are still looking for a permanent singer) After much time had passed and our chins were blistered from being stroked, we decided to hold off recording our next lp (A conspiracy of...) until we have found a permanent vocalist, just saves us pissing about after the lp is out really. and we can get back to playing live again (like normal bands!) Jay and myself would like to thank Iscariah for his enthusiasm and being willing to fly to England to do his vocals."
"So............. we are looking for a full time singer, the next lp is pretty much ready to go, over half the songs have lyrics already, if you feel you can do it, contact us through this electronic medium, no experience required! must be able to attend rehearsals in Nottingham twice a month and a deep love of Venom, Celtic Frost, Master and Discharge would be a Brucey bonus."
Los Angeles melodic death metal band Dreaming Dead has posted the following update:
"We have recently returned from our epic 6 week tour with Nile, Immolation, and Krisiun. It is difficult to put into words just how honored we are to have shared the stage with these giants of extreme metal every night."
"The tour was a great opportunity for us and provided us the best chance we have yet had to share our music with people across the nation. The tour was not without its tough moments though. For the most part we were lucky with the weather, but there were quite a few dangerous nighttime drives on snow and ice-covered roads. We also drove ourselves and therefore had many sleepless nights on our way to the next venue. But that’s rock and roll baby. We wouldn’t endure the hardships of the road if we didn’t love it." Vocalist Vorskaath of Greece metal act Zemial has issued the following update about making an appearance in an upcoming book about black metal:
"I was recently honoured with an in invitation to contribute to the upcoming book: Black Metal (R)evolution. As Black Metal courses through its third decade of existence, the music and ideals behind this social phenomenon have become subject to review and investigation: 'Spawned by Venom, channelled by Bathory and proselytized with equal degrees of worship, obsession and homage by Euronymous of Mayhem, there is an ordered evolution that Black Metal has undertaken since the opus that bears its namesake was vomited forth in 1982.
"'Black Metal is not simply a musical style; it is a cult, a religion, a malignant manifestation with one unifying theme - its exponents are all acolytes of those conjurations which preceded their own. Be that the chaotic rampage of Venom, the morbid primitivism of Hellhammer, the esoteria of Burzum, or the ritual of Von, Black Metal's present, just like its future, pays tribute to its past. And while the noise may diverge from one band to another, and the philosophy may bear factional witness, the past will always reflect on the present. The purpose of this book is to invite artists to discuss the virtue of their most revered BM albums. The most engaging offerings will be featured in the book along with in-depth interviews with some of the instigators of the first wave of BM, where we will explore their points of view on those long influential records.' Danish power death metal band Mercenary has issued the following pre-production update:
"We're currently wrapping up vocals on our pre-production with Jacob Hansen. René is in the vocal box right now and is delivering some truly aggressive vocals on a giant epic fucker of a chorus, and Martin did some moody keys for the middle section, which also features - surprise - a soulful lead and vocal harmonies in abundance. Who knows - a snippet of sound might soon be available ..."
Craig Locicero, guitarist of Bay Area thrashers Forbidden, has issued the following studio update:
"Here is part 3 of our ongoing studio report. This time we're back up in the Bay at Sonic Room/Audio Voyage Studios."
"Friday March 12th... This was my week to begin tracking and I guess I'd been jonesin' pretty hard after all those years. After we got back from L.A., I had to make numerous trips around the Bay grabbing pieces of gear and getting my guitars set up to be tracking worthy. So I really only had one day off after 8 days on. Necessary evil, if you will."
"So after I got all of the gear into Sonic Room/Audio Voyage on Friday, Tim Narducci, Brad Barth and myself started mixing and matching amps and cabs. We tried shit-tons of stuff. I can't tell you exactly what we used, but I will give you a short list of the possibilities we had to work with... 2 different Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifiers, Randall Ultra Module, Line6/Bogner 100wt HD, '94 Peavy 5150, '10 EVH 5150 and my original '94 prototype Langner pre-amp! As far as cabs go we had Marshall 's and Randall's stacked out the door. This place has never had that much shit inside of it. Like I said, I won't tell you exactly what I used, but used a combination of 3 amps and 4 cabs and it sounds awesome! Very distinct, clear and crunchy mids. I've never been more stoked about my tones." More...
Dutch metal band Conspiracy has issued the following update regarding the upcoming album and the search for a new artist:
"Hi guys, just wanted to update you on the situation with the new release. We are still in search for a suitable cover art. Unfortunately Dan Seagrave was not available this time. I must make a choice between contemporary artists and the classical old paintings available 'free of rights.' Let me know if you have any suggestions. If i will get a nice advice which will materialize - you will get a free copy of the new release. "
The band has previously issued the update:
"The third album of CONSPIRACY is ready. I wait for Dan Seagrave to come up with the concept of the cover art. He will get back to me on the 15th of March. This time the album wasn't done by me alone. I am happy to collaborate with a genius guitarist and composer Arian Blaze, who helped to orchestrate and contributed his virtuosity to make the tracks even more interesting." More...
Each week in "Unearthing the Metal Underground," we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. This week I am exploring the northern New Jersey death metal scene.
