Anvil Discusses "Legal At Last" And More

While tours all over the world ground to a halt in the past two weeks, one band who have never shied away from living their dream is Anvil. The Canadian trio embarked on a lengthy European tour a few weeks ago, with three weeks in the United Kingdom planned. However, as luck would have it, shows were soon cancelled thanks to the COVID-19 virus and the band were forced to return to the great white north.

The final gig before flying across the Atlantic however, was in my hometown of Swindon and I couldn't have been more excited to meet some genuine legends of heavy metal in my backyard. Before their show at Level III, I sat down with frontman Steve "Lips" Kudlow to discuss the band's scorching new album, "Legal At Last," the longevity of the group, the influence of swing music and much more. You can listen to the interview in full below with a transcript to follow. More...

Cyhra Posts New Music Video Online

Modern melodic metallers Cyhra released their new album "No Halos In Hell" at the end of last year via Nuclear Blast. Loaded with melodic vocal hooks and heavy yet dynamic riffs, the band's sophomore release proves that Jake E (ex-Amaranthe), Jesper Strömblad (ex-In Flames), Euge Valovirta (ex-Shining) and Alex Landenburg (Rhapsody) are a formidable force when it comes to making music. The band has now uploaded a new music video for the song, "Dreams Gone Wrong," which can be seen below.

Cyhra vocalist Jake E comments: “Sometimes it's interesting to see what happens when you let the unexpected happen. 'Dreams Gone Wrong' was the last song we wrote for our new album No Halos In Hell. We actually wrote it in the studio at the very last moment - when the album was more or less already done. Even though I was really pleased with what we had already recorded, I felt like we needed one more song to really make the album as strong as we all knew it could be. I ran into studio B and came up with the basic song structure. However… Alex was on his way to jump on a European tour with Kamelot, and had just started packing up his drums. So Euge and Jesper quickly teamed up and we got Alex back on the drum kit. Thankfully Jacob coordinated everything! A couple of hours later… and the song was written recorded and produced! The song sticks out lyric-wise as we were short on time, so I was inspired by a documentary I had just seen some months earlier about sleep paralysis. Sometimes the best songs are the easiest to write. Once again we had the opportunity to work with one of my best friends and the one and only Mr Patric Ullaeus for the video! Please enjoy 'Dreams Gone Wrong'.” More...

Pile Of Priests Reveals New Album Details

Denver, USA’s Pile of Priests has just signed with Extreme Metal Music a subsidiary of Italy’s Rockshots Records for the release of their self titled album. As of today, the album is available for pre-order along with its first single 'Exile Unto Divination' to served up as an appetizer for listeners worldwide.

Dark and melodic, the progressive death metal album is a huge milestone for the band. The band acknowledges that it encompasses the style they have been striving to portray for a long time. The conceptual album takes place centuries ago in a fictional universe not unlike our own. The story is about an exiled prince who seeks to end the reign of his deranged father.

The band shares their expected reaction of the album:

"We believe fans will be surprised by certain elements of this record but ultimately very satisfied. There is something for everyone in this one; powerhouse vocals, sinister riffing, silky solos, harmonies to make your hair stand up, and some beautiful melodic passages."

Meant to be listened from front to back, each song leads into the next and the single 'Exile Unto Divination' is a strong melodic death metal track, containing a solid bridge to uncontrollably scrunch those face muscles in wicked approval.

"Pile of Priests" is available on May 22, 2020. More...
