The Cast Pattern has set the release date of their upcoming self-titled album as May 27, 2008.
Those familiar with the TV show CSI will know that that a cast pattern is “the direction of blood on a wall after someone is shot” says guitarist Chris Hess. As direct as blood splatter, the Lawrence, KS outfit plays music that has the savage-ness of hardcore with a tech-metal element and a straight ahead groove that sets to mosh pit swinging. “We like technical and chaotic bands but after a while your brain is spending more time figuring out what’s going on than enjoying the sound, so we aim to have parts that you can lock onto without being simple” says Hess. The band have definitely accomplished their mission performing on shows with such heavyweights as As I Lay Dying, Nile, Dillinger Escape Plan, The Red Chord, Psyopus, Misery Signals, August Burns Red and The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza
The band formed a few years ago and has grown into a tight unit, priding themselves on writing all songs together in the practice space rather than any one member bringing in material. All in their early 20’s The Cast Pattern are dedicated to their craft and eager to escape the confines of a day job as they write about in the song “Shut Your…” on the album. “It’s about working a crappy day job and having to work with people who you would never socialize with otherwise. Some people you can’t believe they are surviving like this and it’s definitely something you have to put up with rather than enjoy to make a living.”
Recently picked up by Thunderdome Touring, the band is out with Knives Exchanging Hands April through mid May, followed by a tour with Arsonists Get All The Girls May through mid July, and July into August with Dr. Acula.

Jocke - war and hate
Arclight Communications have released the following announcement:
"This is just a bulletin to let everyone know that within the next week or so, Arclight Communications will no longer be operating. Sadly all new releases are being cancelled and everyone is encouraged to either place orders with us in the next 3 or 4 days, or with the bands themselves. After that, arclight comm releases will still be available through Interpunk and Lumberjack. If you are a label, or band, or dude...all trades are going to be accepted so we can move some of our remaining stock...so please get in contact!
"Sincere thanks to everyone who has followed the label these past few years, the orders and kind words are truly appreciated. There is a lot of reasons I can no longer continue on ranging from two jobs to two bands....6+ weeks of upcoming tour, lack of funding, and heading back to college this fall full time. It is just unfair for me to continue on. Thanks guys for understanding!

Another new ANSUR track, entitled "Cloudscaper," has been posted on the band's MySpace page. The song comes off the Norwegian progressive extreme metallers' new album, "Warring Factions", due on April 21 via Nocturnal Art Productions/Candlelight Records. The follow-up to 2006's "Axiom" contains seven songs with a total running time of 62 minutes.
Commented the band: "We demand much of our listeners, and now you have the chance to hear ANSUR from its mightiest, technical and most energetic point of view. Hopefully you have a chance to get an impression of what our new album is about in this song. Enjoy!" More...
WINDS OF PLAGUE just completed the Arthropodan Eroticism Tour with DEAD TO FALL, IMPENDING DOOM and BELAY MY LAST, leaving a trail of disaster throughout each city. The addition of Kristen Randall (keyboards) added another deadly element to their already devastating assault.

Guitarist Torsten "Todde" Ihlenfeld from German power metallers BRAINSTORM has issued the following update:
"Hi Brainiacs, the Braintrain rolled through Europe on full steam and we are back home now preparing for the summer festivals and more shows in the fall (see picture collage). Let me say that this tour really was a blast - and so typical for Brainstorm with all the hassle in the run-up for the tour such as the re-booking of some dates due to reasons beyond our control... the whole band starting the tour with a flu, lost cymbals, some serious food poisoning, all the usual SPINAL TAP tour adventures and not to forget myself, as I had to sit out some dates of the tour due to very important and serious family issues that beared no delay. Having said that, I would like to thank our good friend and guitar-wizard Tom Naumann for helping out here on guitars and doing an amazing job in filling in for me on the dates that I unfortunately had to miss. You delivered the goods, brother! Thanks a lot." More...
Brazilian thrash metal band SACRARIO's debut album "Catastrophic Eyes" has finally been released on Kill Again Records. The album was recorded in 1999, but with the dissolution of the group in the following year the release was cancelled. Now, nine years later, their debut album is finally out. "Catastrophic Eyes" has 13 aggressive songs molded in the style of old school Brazilian thrash metal.
During a recent interview with MetalSucks, Throwdown guitarist Mark Choiniere has effectively stated that the band has fulfilled their contractual obligations to Trustkill Records. Here's an excerpt from the interview:
"This was your last album for Trustkill, right?
Mark Choiniere: Right.
And I know Dave [Peters] has made some very public anti-record company remarks, do you guys feel like you're done with the industry?
Mark Choiniere: No, I don't think so. I think Dave was merely speaking from personal... it was definitely more him. I mean, the band definitely backs him, but just from personal experiences... not necessarily bashing record companies in general, which I know it sounded like."
Do you feel like you had a negative experience with Trustkill?
Mark Choiniere: I mean, I don't like to talk shit, but... I just think things could have gone better. Just from touring with other bands and hearing how their record label helped them be the band that they are... it's just kinda like, we could only imagine what it would be like to be on a label that really pushes you. That's all I can say, I guess."

Tina Amendola of Pollstar.com reports: A Texas charity organizer and an Alabama concert promoter foiled an alleged scam artist who has been promising nationally touring acts at bargain-basement prices for nearly two years. This time, the imposter claimed to represent Ronnie James Dio twice in one week.
Mat Raymond, an independent promoter from Birmingham, Ala., said he was contacted via e-mail March 10th by "Tom Peterson / Ronnie James Dio Management." The e-mail offered Dio to the promoter, saying, "since we are working on a couple up close and personal dates with Ronnie, your club was suggested. Can you handle this act."
Raymond decided to check it out. "I'm also a talent buyer for the 1,000-capacity Iron Horse Café here and we get a lot of inquiries at the club, so getting an e-mail about doing a Ronnie James Dio show wasn't that out of the blue," the promoter told Pollstar. "But I know that Dio is a Pinnacle [Entertainment] artist, so I called [agent] Ryan Harlacher."

According to the Italian concert promotion agency Black Dahlia, the previously announced European tour featuring reactivated British thrashers ONSLAUGHT, Sweden's CARNAL FORGE and Greece's SUICIDAL ANGELS has been cancelled.
The trek was scheduled to kick off on March 31 in Romania.
ONSLAUGHT recently confirmed the departure of guitarist Alan Jordan. A replacement axeman has already been recruited in the shape of "awesome new shredder" Andy Rosser-Davies.
ONSLAUGHT's new album, "Killing Peace", was released in March 2007 via Candlelight Records. The CD was recorded at Backstage studio in Derbyshire, England with producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, MACHINE HEAD, ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE).
Metal Mind Productions released ONSLAUGHT's "Live Polish Assault" DVD in a special DVD+CD limited swing case edition on March 3 in Europe (May 13 in the U.S. via MVD).
Five new songs from Norwegian metallers SAHG's latest album, Sahg II, are now available for streaming at this location. In addition to ’Ascent To Decadence’, you can hear ’Pyromancer’, ’Echoes Ring Forever’, ’Star-Crossed’, ’Escape The Crimson Sun’ and ’Monomania’ from the recently released Sahg II album, out now via Regain.
“This album is definitely a big step forward for us, both musically and technically/sound-wise,” commented guitarist/vocalist Olav Iversen recently. “The songs are more diverse on Sahg II because we have allowed ourselves to think more freely and be more receptive to a wider range of inspiration. There are so many directions we want to explore with this band, and this is just what we had time for in this round.”

KATAGORY V bassist/founding member Dustin Mitchell has recently revealed that he has finally undergone a procedure for the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in his right hand, which he was diagnosed with at the end of 2006.
"After years of dealing with this problem, I have finally taken the steps to have it rectified. Writing this message is a bit of a challenge right now, but not nearly as difficult or as painful as it could be thanks to the advances in medical technology for treating CTS. I was in and out of surgery in less than 10 minutes! It was that fast! All it took was a one inch incision and a cut to the tissue in my hand restricting the blood flow of the nerve, a few stitches and that was it. I am now home resting up, with only a small bandage wrapped around my wrist. I have full use of my fingers and 75% usage of my whole hand already. According to doctors, I should be 100% in another week! If I had the old-style surgery, it would be weeks, if not months before I would be 100% healed. With the advances in medical technology for treating CTS, I would encourage any musician suffering from it, to get it treated right away. It is practically painless and takes no time at all!"
Dustin also commented about the current status of Katagory V, as well as the progress of finding replacements for vocalist Lynn Allers and lead guitarist Marc Hanson who were announced as having left the band in January of 2007.
"We've had several fans and press contact us with concern for the band since it has been all too quite in the K5 camp since the announcement of Lynn and Marc leaving the band, and we appreciate all the positive and encouraging emails and message posts on our forum concerning the matter. But rest assured, we are still keeping very busy! Curtis and I are, and have always been, the primary songwriters in Katagory V, and the loss of Lynn and Marc has not slowed the progress on working towards the next Katagory V album. We have been compiling several new song ideas over the last few months and things are moving very quickly, and we will have more news concerning the next album in a month or two. For now, Curtis, Matt and I are still in high spirits and are positive that we will find the right musicians to complete the line up, but we are not in a hurry to do so. We want to be 100% sure that whomever we pick, are the perfect fit and will help further the bands sound, style, and share our vision and work ethics."
"As of this moment, the search continues..." states Dustin, "we have a couple of singers that we are very, very impressed with that have contacted us and sent us material, and to be honest, it could be a very hard decision when it comes down to who it will be. Of those we like, any one of them could easily take Katagory V to the next level. However, we are not ready to make a final call on any of them right now because we still have a few 'late entries' that we are waiting to hear from. Unfortunately, the guitarist search has been a far more cumbersome process. We have had many more axe slingers contact us with interest, but many of them have not even made it to the initial stages for an audition. Calling them 'flakey' would be an understatement. However, those few that have been brave enough to send us material to hear; although fairly talented, were not quite up to our expectations of what we are looking for. We still have a few more guitarists we are looking at and have high hopes for, but right now, the door is still open for anyone interested in filling this slot."

MEGADETH guitarist (and latest addition to the group) Chris Broderick checks in with the following update:
"It's been a while since I have posted here so I figured I would try to catch up. Right now I am up in Mammoth Mountain, CA snowboarding. I invited Dave and Justis to come up but I think they are more into warm weather sports, however, they do have a run named after Dave here. Of course I had to bring my guitar, amp, and music so I can keep up the practice while here. I look forward to getting back out on the road and meeting more of you."

MESHUGGAH drummer Tomas Haake has revealed to Petri Silas of Finland's Soundi magazine that he may be forced to miss some of the shows on the band's current North American tour with MINISTRY in order to undergo surgery for an impingement of the shoulder.
Tomas said, "We are going to make this public with an official statement soon, so I guess I can talk about it here. I have shoulder impingement in my right shoulder and will have to undergo surgery. It's quite a usual ailment with men of my age and the surgery is a totally routine operation. But the recovery period will make me have to forget about playing the drums for a couple of months. In fact, I shouldn't even go on the MINISTRY tour as my doctor would prefer to operate right now. But we managed to negotiate our showtime down to 35 minutes in order to make it easier on me. And I hope everything works out. As a matter of fact, we were just hatching up a plan B yesterday [the interview was conducted on February 3 at the Fear & Loathing Studio in Spånga, Sweden — Ed] with the guys. If worse comes to worst during the MINISTRY tour, the band will continue to the end with another drummer. Luckily I should be in full condition and recovered at the end of the summer, as we will then play some more festival shows. In September we will embark on our own European headlining tour and expect to play a total of three shows in Finland."
MESHUGGAH and HEMLOCK were forced to miss the first Canadian show on MINISTRY's final world tour — C U LaTouR — which made a stop Wednesday night (March 26) at the Whiskey nightclub in Calgary, Alberta. According to local promoter Union Events, the two bands — who are believed to be sharing a tour bus — were unable to make the gig due to "immigration challenges." The rest of the tour will not be affected by this cancellation.
MESHUGGAH's latest album, "obZen" sold 11,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 59 on The Billboard 200 chart. This is substantially more than the 7,000 first-week total achieved by its predecessor, "Catch 33", which landed at No. 170 on The Billboard 200 chart back in June 2005.
EVERGREY's singer/guitarist Tom S. Englund has posted the following update:
Just a few words to let you know that we had a great time in Finland, the shows were really awesome and the finnish fans R O C K!
We knew that already but it was nice to see that what we remembered from prior shows were really true.
We are almost done with our label-negotiations and think we will be able to present a release date within 2 weeks, and just to clarify, we have lot’s of history with different labels that we needed to clear up before signing a new deal with anyone. This has taken so much longer than anticipated, I mean we have been sending contacts back and forth since last JUNE, so of course this has been really frustrating for us as musicians, but at the same time we’ve been forced to be really business-minded. BUT… as I said we are now down to one label and hope to tell you which one really soon.
During the month of April we decided to sign all of the stuff bought in our webstore and dedicate it to the person who’s on the order-form (that is if you want us to of course, we wouldnt want to fuck your CDs up). So if you don't want them signed, or if it is for another name, write that in the order .
Also we made some really cool shirts for the shows in Finland , we have a couple of them left so be sure to check that out: www.evergrey.net/merch.php
Monday or Tuesday we will hand you the 2nd “TORN” trailer so you know where and when to check!
Til’ next time ….."

NME.com reports: LED ZEPPELIN bassist John Paul Jones has hinted that his band may record a new studio album, following their reunion show on December 10th last year at London's O2 Arena.
Speaking in the May 2008 issue of our sister title Uncut, the bassist said he was uncertain about the future of the band but refused to rule out heading into the studio to work on a new album with his bandmates.
"I'd have to think about that," he said, when asked if he'd like to make another Led Zeppelin album. "We spoke afterwards [after the O2 Arena show] and we thought the same - it felt like the first night of a tour. You think, 'oh, I could do that a bit better, or change something in that song'. And we didn't get a chance to do any more."

According to Gaming Today, DEF LEPPARD will be one of the featured artists on Guitar Hero 4 when it is released later this year. The songs expected to be included are as follows: "Photograph", "Rock of Ages" and "Animal".
Markus Goldman of Philadelphia's WMMR conducted an interview with DEF LEPPARD frontman Joe Elliott this past Friday, March 21. Joe spoke for over an hour about the band's forthcoming album, "Songs from the Sparkle Lounge", the old records, NWOBHM, how he met Ron Wood, the Mick Ronson tribute record, the VH1 movie and a lot more.
Download the podcast containing the Joe Elliott interview at this location.
DEF LEPPARD's new studio album, "Songs from the Sparkle Lounge", is scheduled for release on April 29 via Bludgeon Riffola/Island/UMe.
The 11-track "Songs From The Sparkle Lounge" is DEF LEPPARD's first album of brand new material since 2002's "X" and begins yet another remarkable new chapter in the band's 30-year recording career. Recorded last year during month-long stints at lead singer Joe Elliott's Dublin studio, the album's title refers to a backstage area called The Sparkle Lounge on DEF LEPPARD's 2006 tour where the band would go to write songs.
California based rockers Avenged Sevenfold have been confirmed via the Wacken Open Air website as the latest act added to the German festival. They will join a bill which also features acts such as Iron Maiden, Kreator and Exodus.
The festival is unfortunately sold out but more acts will be announced shortly.
Tired of a world in which Americans idolize wannabe singers and musicals about high schoolers pass as rock 'n roll music, Dr Pepper is encouraging (OK, begging) Axl Rose to finally release his 17-year-in-the-making belabored masterpiece, "Chinese Democracy," in 2008.
In an unprecedented show of solidarity with Axl, everyone in America, except former GN'R guitarists Slash and Buckethead, will receive a free can of Dr Pepper if the album ships some time... anytime! in 2008. Dr Pepper supports Axl, and fully understands that sometimes you have to make it through the jungle before you get it right.
"It took a little patience to perfect Dr Pepper's special mix of 23 ingredients, which our fans have come to know and love," said Jaxie Alt, director of marketing for Dr Pepper. "So we completely understand and empathize with Axl's quest for perfection, for something more than the average album. We know once it's released, people will refer to it as 'Dr Pepper for the ears' because it will be such a refreshing blend of rich, bold sounds an instant classic."
Show your support for Axl and get on the nightrain of encouragement at this location.
Commented Axl Rose in a statement: "We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr. Pepper with our album, 'Chinese Democracy", as for us this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead's performances are on our album, I'll share my Dr Pepper with him."
