Pure Grain Audio now has a video interview online with French death metallers GOJIRA, from the band's recent stop in Guelph, Ontario in Canada while on tour with Lamb of God, Trivium and Machine Head. The interview is in-depth, covering several subjects including the band's beginnings, touring North America for the second time and the band's recent success. Here are a few excerpts:
On touring North America as an opening act:
"We have a very strong fan base of dedicated fans, it's amazing," frontman Joe Duplantier said. "They write us letters, they come to the show. Some of them have seen us 20 times or me and in France, we're kind of an established band now. When we tour in France we are headliners. We have a big crowd for us, it's even harder to be a headliner like that with dedicated fans, because you have to give the best all the time [rather than] being the opening act. Actually, it's very refreshing to be on this tour playing 30 minutes and being like, 'We have to go in and warm up the place and then go in the bus'."
On GOJIRA's atypical lyrical content:
"It's just spontaneous, like the music" Duplantier said of the band's lyrical direction. "It just goes together. And to me, sometimes people tell me, 'Why do you have a peaceful message and you play metal? It's so violent, it's so dark, it's so nasty.' I want to say, 'No, actually it's not paradoxical at all.' On Earth, we have a problem, we are on the ship and it's sinking and we have to do something about it. So there's an emergency...I feel like it's natural, it's spontaneous to scream. But that's not the only point for the message. I would say the message is more like take care of yourself if you want to take care of your world and the ship. Learn how to respect yourself and know better - if you want to know the world and respect the world."
GOJIRA is continuing to support the band's first proper North American release, 'From Mars To Sirius,' which saw an August 2006 release through Prosthetic Records, after being available in only Europe through Listenable Records in September 2005. The video for the song "To Sirius" will be played again this weekend on MTV2's Headbangers Ball - check local listings for time and channel. The video can also be seen online here.

Not exactly metal news, but a fun spectacle and follow up to the previous story about Scott Weiland and his wife trashing their hotel room, his wife has since been arrested for torching the rocker's $10,000 wardrobe in front of the couple's home in Toluca Lake, CA.
According to police, 31-year-old Mary Weiland was booked for investigation of felony arson vandalism after cops responded to a "female burning clothes" call late Saturday evening.
The couple's two kids were placed in the custody of family friends.
Weiland was booked at a Burbank police station just after midnight Sunday morning and was released after posting $50,000 bail three hours later.
The arrest came only hours after the couple was kicked out of the Graciela Hotel in Burbank following a ferocious argument that left Weiland's room in shambles and blood on the linens. The hotel is pressing charges against the Weilands for the damage they caused.
In real Velvet Revolver news, the band announced more tour dates, which we recently posted here.
Swedish death metallers BLOODBATH have posted the following update:
“BLOODBATH is finally back to put elite death metal on the map. The brand new line-up is shortly to be officially revealed, but has already paved way for a band hungrier than ever to bathe in the blood of a new recording. So in early June, we’ll once again enter Fascination Street studios (same place Nightmares Made Flesh was done) to cut a couple of new songs. In good tradition, each member will contribute to the writing with one song each. The final result will be unleashed in the form of a mini-cd scheduled for release in late summer. This affair will be self-financed and released only by BLOODBATH in a limited edition. Info on how to obtain your copy will follow with the announcement of the exact release date. So stay tuned and get ready… because BLOODBATH is back to DO-MI-NATE!”

One of the UK’s most promising extreme music prodigies, CA?NA mastermind Andrew Curtis-Brignell, has completed his sophomore album, “Mourner".
Following up his “Some People Fall” debut (which was preceded by two demo tapes released via Drakkar), where Brignell’s bizarre take on raw uneasy avant-garde black metal, which also dabbled within post-rock and shoegaze, took listeners for quite the trip, “Mourner” will present that much more of a challenging venture to undertake. More experimental, surreal, and uneasy, yet more dreamy, going further into the beyond, “Mourner” is an oppressive and challenging listening experience that we are proud to deliver. Still having certain characteristics of its predecessor, “Mourner” sees Brignell continue to tread disjointed black metal ground, but now plays more with his sound palette by incorporating more sounds of 4AD post-rock, shoegaze, neo-folk, acoustic sing-along, and drone into this diverse mix.
The tracklisting for “Mourner” goes as follows:
1. Waves Engulf a Pier
2. Hideous Gnosis
3. The Sleep of Reason
4. Constantine the Blind
5. I Reeled in Heaven
7. Requiem for Shattered Timbers
ii)Arc of Piss
8. Permaneo Carmen
9. Wormwood Over Albion
Look for “Mourner” to be released sometime late June.
In the meantime, you can check out a sample of ‘Hideous Gnosis’ (along with other Ca?na samples) at Brignell’s myspace page.
Spit Like This post the following message on their myspace page regarding their latest video:
"We had one of our shows back in February filmed by a pro-camera crew. The gig was at Ashford in Kent and we kinda thought we might get some cool live footage. Well, whilst it was being edited together, I asked the awesome people at G-Dog productions http://gdogdigitalvideo.co.uk if they would do us a 60 second teaser trailer. Well, what came back was this full-blown Teaser Video to one of your fave songs of ours, "Rebel Lover". Quite an unexpected bonus so thought we would share it with you. Bulletin it to your friends and add it to your own myspace page and ENJOY IT!" More...
Long-running Swedish metallers ENTOMBED have been added to the May 7 concert at the Underworld in London, England featuring ONSLAUGHT and SUSPERIA.
ENTOMBED will release its new album, "Serpent Saints – The Ten Amendments", in Germany on July 13 through Threeman Recordings via a special arrangement with Candlelight Records. The 10-song effort will mark the group's first release with drummer Olle Dahlstedt (ALPHA SAFARI, ex-MISERY LOVES CO.), who replaced Peter Stjärnvind in 2006. The band has also scheduled a special showcase gig on May 3 at the Ballroom in Hamburg, Germany. Songtitles set to appear on the new CD include "In the Blood" and "The Dead, The Dying and the Dying to be Dead". Mastering duties will take place at the end of the month with Soren Elofsson at Cosmos Mastering in Stockholm, Sweden.
With regards to the musical direction of the new album, the band previously said, "'Serpents Saints' goes wider and deeper than the 'When In Sodom' EP but it's a pretty good indicator. It's no concept album but an ambitious attempt at creating a solid album with some recurring themes. Almost like the soundtrack to the film with the same name."

BYZANTINE recently took a short break from recording with producer Charles A. Fisher in Sissonville, WV to join up with God Forbid, Arsis, Goatwhore and Mnemic for a brief trek throughout the eastern US. The band is currently scheduling summer touring plans, including an appearance at Milwaukee Metalfest, Columbus’ Independence Fest and Uprising Fest 2007 in Connecticut as well regional headlining shows.

IN THIS MOMENT will spend this summer on Ozzfest 2007 as a part of the second stage's rotating lineup alongside such acclaimed artists as HATEBREED, NILE, THE SHOWDOWN and 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, among others. This will be the group's biggest tour yet, and as guitarist Chris Howorth states, it is an opportunity they meet with open arms. "We are very proud and honored to be a part of this year's Ozzfest," he said. "Not only are we huge Ozzy fans and excited to be playing with him every day, but this year's festival is free, so everyone has a chance to come out and be a part of this amazing experience. It's going to be a great chance to reach out to an entirely new audience. We are also looking forward to playing with and getting to know all the rest of the bands on the tour. It's so surreal because not too long ago we were watching the Ozzfest as fans out in the crowd, and now we are performing. It's an unbelievable feeling — we are so blessed!"
The Ozzfest billing is now shaping up as follows:

Finnish battle beasts TURISAS strike back with the frenetically awaited follow-up release to 2004's acclaimed debut "Battle Metal". Titled "The Varangian Way", this opulent and inspired masterpiece, which was recorded at Sound Supreme Studio and then mixed and mastered at Finnvox Studio (NIGHTWISH, H.I.M., APOCALYPTICA), transcends all sub-genres within the heavier metal worlds and unites each and all of their different elementary nuances into an experience unlike any other in a current scene of copycat bands.
Vocalist and producer Warlord explains the complex ideas behind this stunning new opus: "The album is based on a concept story which is fictional, but strongly tied to real historical persons and events. It's a journey of a group of Northmen, who travel down the East-European river route through the lands of modern day East Europe. This was an important trade route in the 9th-11th centuries and the Northmen going in this direction were called Varangians who took this route to Kiev and finally Constantinople. The album follows this journey and the songs are events that take place on the road. As much as it is a journey of these men, it is also a journey in a search for self and identity — something which the protagonist is going through throughout the story. The varying surroundings can clearly be heard on the album as it features a lot of influences from the different cultures and people our travellers would have encountered on their journey. More...
L.A. GUNS frontman Phil Lewis has issued the following update:
"Dear friends, it is with enormous regret we announce the departure of our good friend Adam Hamilton [bass]. Adam has been offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pursue his dreams as a producer. From this point on he will become a full-time studio rat chained to a recording console but I suspect he will still wear a bit of eyeliner. Adam, we wish you well mate, you have stuck with us through very good and a few extraordinary bad times, you will always be a brother and we all thank you for the amazing music you have contributed, Thank you for your commitment to the band and the fans, it's been nothing but pleasure touring the world with you, Your sharp sense of humor that got us through some very sketchy times will be missed. You can show off all those backstage laminates with pride in your studio and know that you are the very essence of rock and roll and a lifetime behind a mixing board will never take that away from you. We all eagerly look forward to the sonic delights you are soon to create and give you and your family our blessings and want you to know you will always be a part of our L.A. GUNS family."

Abysmal Dawn post the following update on their myspace page:
"We'd like to thank everyone that came out to the Los Angeles Murderfest this past weekend. It was an honor playing for all of you and it was well worth taking the short break from writing.
As most of you noticed that night we now have a new bass player in our ranks, Mr. Mike Cosio (Grave Desecration, ex-Excretion, etc.)! We've been working with him for the past month and after his outstanding performance this weekend it's finally official.
Now that we've gotten playing live out of our system for a while, it's time to climb back into our shells and continue writing. Our only scheduled performance at the moment is the recently added Emperor reunion show, on June 3rd at the Key Club in Hollywood. We feel very privileged to be supporting such a legendary entity and hope you will come out and show your support for some black/death metal art!"

New Jersey Metallers, Eternity Void, post the following update on their myspace page:
"I guess it was only a matter of time until something like this got posted. Mike and I are no longer doing eternity void. It's really a bunch of situational things... Nothing personal between us. we both finished college and our lives are taking us in slightly different directions. Mike Takes drum lessons and works in NYC, I play in a band based out of south jersey and am planning to go back to grad school in the fall and move there.
After the "CONJURE" e.p. came out, we kind of decided to take things in a different direction because we thought we had ridden the black metal train to the end of the line, and made the best album we could. So we wrote a few songs that we never did anything with, and it was fun. we've been meaning to record them for the longest time... There is a good chance we will jam again, and soon, but it won't be what you know "Eternity Void" as.
I was very grateful and pleased that the EP was so well recieved among critics and zines, but I only wish it could have gotten a little more exposure through shows and to the people who supported us the whole time we were a band. That is all, thanks for everything. Here is links to our current musical endeavors. Dont cry for me argentina

Sun Descends have pushed their recording date back to late May 2007, and are in the end stages of the writing process for the new album. The new cd titled "The Entropy Formula" will be produced by Terror of the Trees mastermind, His Eminence the Wicked. The recording will also feature Craig "The Reaper" Horval of Nunslaugthter/Crucified Mortals on bass. The artwork for the album will be created by Sean Taggart, who was responsible for mid eighties cover artwork from bands such as Agnostic Front, Crumbsuckers and Carnivore.
Vocalist Mem comments, "The new material is definitely in the vein of eighties thrash metal with traces of hardcore and a lot of guitar harmonies. It captures the spirit and sound of New York City's inspiring griminess."
"The Entropy Formula" will be released via Twilight Distribution in late summer of 2007.
The official line-up for the 2007 edition of the Family Values Tour has been announced. The tour, which will be co-headlined by Korn and Evanescence, will also feature Atreyu, Flyleaf, Trivium and Hellyeah. Talk of Aiden being on the tour was apparently premature and rumors of Lamb of God and Sevendust being on the tour had already been shot down.
Davis, Korn guitarist Munky, Vinnie and Atreyu singer Alex Varkatzas announced the tour on VirtualMTV.com in what was billed as the F--- the Press Press Conference, a virtual world open to fans and set up specifically to discuss the Family Values Tour.
An itinerary for 2007 has yet to be released, but the tour will hit the following cities: More...
LOSTCITY INDUSTRIES, Founded by Luc Verville ( ex-A Perfect Murder & current guitarist for Aces & Eights ) and Carl Bouchard ( Guitarist for A Perfect Murder/Final Word ) have announced the addition of TEARS FROM THE SKY to its roster.
The Montreal based act TEARS FROM THE SKY just signed an exclusive contract with LOSTCITY INDUSTRIES to release their crushing new album, BOREDOMVILLE. The band plays a purely straight forward hard brand of metal and their new album will officially drop on May 8, 2007.
According to the label, "With a unique sound that is often reminiscent of metal legends such as IN FLAMES & IRON MAIDEN, the band will undoubtedly convince you with their integrity and passion, that they have been relentlessly upholding for the last 8 years of existence, that they belong on the same playing field as any of today's premier metal acts."
TEARS FROM THE SKY will be playing all week-ends from Mid-may until the end of June before going out on a full tour in support of BOREDOMVILLE this summer.
Slayer and Marilyn Manson announce that they will co-headline a North American major-market summer tour set to kick off July 25 on the east coast. Manson and Slayer will each play full sets, and two support bands, yet to be determined, will open all shows.
Just prior to the American trek, both Manson and Slayer will be on tour throughout Europe, sharing the stage at three European festivals - the UK's Download Festival at Donington (June 9), Greenfield Festival in Sweden (June 15), and Stockholm's Metaltown Festival (June 30).
Marilyn Manson just wrapped up work on his upcoming June release to be titled, "EAT ME, DRINK ME."
