Chicago's FOREST OF IMPALED will be heading into the studio next month to unleash their fourth release, tentatively due later in the year via Red Stream Records. The as-yet-untitled new CD will feature the entire "Forward the Spears" lineup, which includes original members Adrian Adamus and Marek Trella on guitars, DIVINE EMPIRE's Duane Timlin on drums and SARCOPHAGUS' Marcus Kolar on bass and vocals. In addition, FOREST OF IMPALED will be playing the first in a series of live shows on March 27 in Chicago, with more dates to be announced in the coming weeks.
Relapse Records have announced the signing of Bay Area grindcore trio, CRETIN. CRETIN (Dan Martinez: guitars / vocals, Matt Widener: bass, Col Jones: drums) take lo-fi to new heights and depravity to new lows. CRETIN's first official release as a band on the Relapse roster will be a split release with label-mates PIG DESTROYER, due out later this year. CRETIN is also rehearsing material for their first full-length album, slated for a late 2005 release via Relapse. Senses will be debauched. Eardrums, assaulted. Prepare for the cretanic grind invasion.
"We're very proud to be part of the Relapse roster," Martinez says, "a label that has represented grind and death metal for over ten years. We hope to make everyone proud." Widener, who also fronts political grindcore band, Citizen, says, "Relapse is the perfect home for Cretin; really, the only one I can imagine. I'm glad that they're giving us this chance." Jones, who still drums for thrash metal band, Dekapitator, admits, "I've been with Relapse for years, and I know Cretin can deliver the goods.

Children of Bodom fan site, Scythes-of-Bodom.com reports that the 1960 Lake Bodom murder case, from which the Finnish death metal band derived its name, is going to prosecution for consideration.
According to the crime investigators, the evening at the lake was all about jealousy, alcohol and sex. They claim that Nils Gustafsson, the sole survivor, had lost his temper because of an old relationship of his girlfriend Irmeli Björklund, the victim who got stabbed in an extremely brutal way unlike the other two who got killed rather quickly. The other two victims, Tuulikki Mäki and Seppo Boisman, were apparently a couple as well.
Ther material going to prosecution is 500-pages of questioning material and it comes with several DNA and blood samples, fingerprints and various items like the tent the children had supposedly never slept in. However, the police now claims that they never even had time to sleep in it, they just had sex in it.
Espoo's leading jurisdictional district attorney Tom Ifström believes that in two months, he will be able to decided whether Nils will be charged or not for the triple murder. First of all, he has to decide whether the crime has expired or not. It is a complicated situation since the laws from teh 60's have gone through major changes. According to the current Finnish law, a second degree murder gets old in 20 years, but a first degree murder never gest old. It is also a mystery how and if all the witnesses can be found and taken to court.
Nils Gustafsson will turn 64 this spring.
Chimaira hit the studio to record the yet-to-be-titled follow up to The Impossibility Of Reason on February 7th, and as of today the recording is about 98% complete. So after 6 weeks - and apparently only 4 sunny days whilst recording in the band's hometown of Strongsville, OH - all that is left to do is "a couple vocals here and there, and Rob adding a few more solos," tells frontman Mark Hunter from the studio.
With the final completion of all the 13 songs that Chimaira has recorded imminent, Mark Hunter has granted Roadrunner Records this exclusive interview:
Roadrunner: We heard that Strongsville, OH is the original home of the wing nut, is this true?
Mark Hunter: Of the wing nut? No man, home of the Mustangs.
Roadrunner: Ever sneak into the pool at the Holiday Inn Select CLEVELAND-STRONGSVILLE?
Mark Hunter: Yes. I have, actually. Dead serious.
Roadrunner: Which member of N.W.A. do you feel most akin to?
Mark Hunter: I would say Dr Dre...just because he is one of those control freaks in the studio, at least I'd imagine. He's the HNIC, so am I.
Roadrunner: Where is the best place for a young man to meet a nice young lady in Strongsville?
Mark Hunter: Probably the High School.definitely the High School. Jim often combs the High School parking lots blasting N.W.A. thinking it's modern, thinking people will think he is in touch with the youth.
Roadrunner: What is a Rib Burn-off?
Mark Hunter: Basically, in our town we have a town center...it's a big open field, and every summer every restaurant that serves ribs gathers at this town center to makes ribs...there are judges, and there is a winner. Actually, true story - before the band I managed a rib joint named Geppepto's, they were notorious for winning each year.
Roadrunner: And will you be going to the Strongsville "Rib Burn-off" on June 23rd?
Mark Hunter: hahaha...unfortunately, we'll be in Europe. But, was there last year, and the year before that. Have tried getting a gig playing it!
