Soul Of Steel has signed a deal with Bakerteam Records for the release of new album "Journey of Infinity," following the debut "Destiny" (2010) and a solid live activity in the group's native country of Italy. "Journey of Infinity" is due out April 23rd, 2013. The label also comments:
"Following the path created by fellow Italian bands such as Labyrinth and Vision Divine, Soul Of Steel bring to the table a compelling mix of Melodic Power Metal, Progressive Rock and majestic Symphonic passages.
"‘Journey To Infinity’ was produced by Olaf Thorsen (Labyrinth, Vision Divine), mixed and mastered by Simone Mularoni (DGM) and features very special guest appearances by Roberto Tiranti (lead singer of Labyrinth) on the stunning acoustic version of the song ‘Last Desire’ and Alessio Lucatti (keyboardist of Vision Divine) on the song ‘Eternal Life’.
"The album evolves around a dreamlike journey of a man trying to escape his demons, which was brilliantly portrayed on the cover artwork by Nerve Design (Threshold, Eldritch, Vision Divine)." More...
West Coast gore deviants Exhumed will take to the streets again this April on a near month long North American rampage alongside headliners Suffocation.
The live assaults commence April 4th on Long Island, New York and will level nearly two dozen cities before coming to a close in April 28th in Hartford, Connecticut. Additional support will be provided by Jungle Rot, Rings of Saturn, Adimiron and Lord of War (on select dates).
Says Exhumed’s Matt Harvey, “We're beyond psyched to hit the road with long-time faves of ours, Suffocation. This tour will bring all you maniacs one of the heaviest nights of your lives! We couldn't think of a better way to start our tour cycle for 2013 and get people stoked for our upcoming record. We will be debuting some new tracks and have a new show and set ready to melt your face and make you reevaluate your life decisions. We’ll see all your ugly faces in April for a celebration of guts, grog and grotesqueries! Excelsior!”
Coinciding with the tour kick off, the May 2013 issue of Decibel offers up a brand new Exhumed flexi featuring the track "The Beginning After the End," taken from the band’s recently completed recording sessions.
Elaborates Harvey: “We're totally psyched about the Decibel flexi! I remember getting the D.R.I. Manifest Destiny flexi in RIP Magazine and the Sabbat Blood For The Blood God flexi in White Dwarf back in the day, so it's killer to carry on in that tradition. We've talked about doing it ever since we got back together, so I'm more surprised that [editor Albert] Mudrian actually let me write about the SF Giants [included in the baseball preview of the same issue], to be honest. But anyway, the track ‘The Beginning After The End’ is something we did during the latest recording sessions, so it will give folks some idea of the sound and vibe of the new record. Hopefully this track will inspire some curiosity and headbanging, as well as increase the sales of Natural Ice beer and home pregnancy tests. It's also part of our incredibly savvy and calculated promotional campaign designed to get as many of you filthy maniacs out in force for our tour with Suffocation this month, so come on down and let's get weird!” More...
Neurot Recordings is pleased to release the debut from Arkansas southern rock collective Iron Tongue. Called "a solid slab of balls to the wall shameless rock, with a power and an edge and soul that rarely exists in music today," by Neurosis’ Steve Von Till, "The Dogs Have Barked, The Birds Have Flown" is set for release via Neurot Recordings on May 27th in Europe and May 28th in North America.
The band's publicist also issued the following press release:
"Fronted by Chris 'CT' Terry, the founding frontman of sludge legion Rwake, Iron Tongue formed when a group of veteran players with diverse musical backgrounds found a common interest in the need to get down and dirty and way, way gone.
"Churning a soulful blend of girthy, heavily amped, blues-based rock, Iron Tongue aren’t singing of magical moonlit escapades. The band offer up songs of pain, regret and heartache that recall everything from the proto-metal stomp of Blue Cheer and Grand Funk to the darkest hours of Kiss, Deep Purple, Buddy Guy and ‘Skynyrd. Having spent over three years performing steadily throughout the South, Iron Tongue has traversed the Midwest and East Coast with Memphis kindred spirits The Dirty Streets, in addition to sharing bills with the likes of Black Tusk, Scott Kelly, The Sword, High on Fire, Crowbar, The Body, Lita Ford and fellow Arkansans Pallbearer. A split 7” with The Dirty Streets, featuring a ballsy version of KISS’s 'Two Timer' served as a precursor to the creation their debut full-length for Neurot. More...
Richmond, Virginia-based Forcefield Records confirms the pending Springtime release of the debut LP from local hellbrigade, Earthling. The following press release was issued about the band:
"Formed in early 2009 as a project between Harrisonburg natives Alan Fary (guitar/vocals) and Brently Hilliard (drums), following several member shifts solidified the Earthling lineup with Praveen Chhetri (guitar) and Jordan Brunk (bass).
"Having released a pair of three-song demos, a split 7” with the mighty Valkyrie, and having extensively inundated their local DIY music circuit, the band has crafted a crusty, blackened, thrashing hybrid of metal drawing influences from across the spectrum of extreme music.
"Now on the heels of their split 7" with Valkyrie (a band who shares guitarist, Alan Fary), Earthling has finally captured their corrosive sound on record, and now prepares to unleash hell upon its own kind with their ominous Dark Path on CD, LP and digital May 7th, 2013. A diverse, premier debut offering which will undoubtedly appeal to fans of all things ripping, Dark Path is a coarse display of the band's terrorizing spirit; a ravenous force that has guided the group through countless shows, relentless demo recordings, and over five years of sheer sacrifice. Dallas, Texas DIY heavy metal act, Seeker, has revealed a teaser video for the upcoming single, "She," via YouTube. Check it out below.
Said vocalist, Bryce Lucien, "We're extremely hard on ourselves, and we are constantly trying to push things further and further with each new song; 'She' is no exception. This is the fastest, angriest, and most chaotic track that we have ever released, and we can't wait to get out on the road and play it live."
Seeker will unleash the new track in the days leading up to its headlining U.S. tour, "The Rise of Darkness Tour," set to commence April 5th in Dallas. Metal outfit Forty Winters will accompany Seeker on the spring escapade, which Lucien anticipates will be, "absolute mayhem from start to finish. We couldn't be more excited to have [Forty Winters] on the road with us next month." A full list of confirmed dates can be seen below. More...
A track from Belgian faction Hessian’s Southern Lord debut "Manégarmr" has been dispensed today.
Let the "Plague Monger" off the chain now at Invisible Oranges or through the player below. The following press release was also issued about the track:
"A rabid surge of energetic punk/metal-infused hardcore raging with a blistering solo and pummeling breakdown with a total by-the-throat approach, on par with acts like Ringworm and Southern Lord mates All Pigs Must Die, 'Plague Monger' is a prime example of what happens when the members of Hessian combine their damaging talents.
"From the onset, the combined musical backgrounds of this quartet featuring members of Amenra and The Black Heart Rebellion, and part of the Church Of Ra sect fell effortlessly into place, pushing a sound that was at once pummeling, devouring and empowering across the rural fields where they started rehearsing.
"After a well received debut EP, a split 7" with Amenra, a split LP with Pale Creation on Magic Bullet Records and countless shows throughout Europe, HESSIAN have found a new home with Southern Lord who will unleash the band’s debut album, 'Manégarmr' to the North American masses on April 30th.
"Additional new European tour actions for Hessian have also been announced, with more to follow throughout the year in an ongoing live campaign in support of Manègarmr." More...

Skeletonwitch has now achieved a decade of music. The first ten years were nothing short of astonishing. Instead of hitting a sophomore slump, which many bands experience after concocting a must-listen formula, the group improved and found a much larger audience with Prosthetic Records when they released “Beyond the Permafrost” in 2007. Something about the Ohio-based group’s sound, a boney blend of thrash, black and melodic death with conspicuous European influences, commanded listeners’ attention. Over the years, their following has grown to the point where one can’t talk about the modern metal scene without mentioning the name Skeletonwitch.
Since their latest jaunt was a U.S. headlining tour with Havok, Early Graves and Mutilation Rites, Skeletonwitch has been home working on their fifth full-length recording. Heading into the group’s second decade of music, it seemed fitting that Metal Underground spoke to vocalist Chance Garnette at SXSW. As he states in the following conversation, Skeletonwitch last played SXSW around ’04 or ’05—an early point in the band’s career. As SXSW helped jump start the first ten years of their career, it has provided a platform to launch its second decade of music. Before hearing the band play a new track at the Van’s/Pitchfork’s SXSW day showcase at the Mohawk, Garnette aptly described what we would hear. Read on further for that description. More...
Rooted in the sprawling Chicago underground metal scene with ties to multiple internationally-notable musical and artistic forms of media, a massive composition five years in the making has finally arrived. Behold "Kether," the second LP by sludge/doom collective I Klatus. The following press release was issued about the album:
"With the dark spirit of Chicago in mind and the mysteries of the Cosmos at heart, the all-consuming devastation achieved on 'Kether' takes the pummeling morphing of sludge/grime/doom the I Klatus clan has previously attained to even more warped and exploratory realms through nearly an hour of continually-engaging material in the progressive tradition of Spaceboy, Gasp, Ufomammut, Rwake, Noothgrush and YOB. The band self-describes the material as 'beyondcore, sludge, and shamanistic method doom.'
"I Klatus self-released the mammoth Kether in an extremely limited 2xLP version at the end of 2012, but now takes the album to an entirely broader audience with an official digital release of the album this month.
"The album lies in the wake of the tragic passing of I KLATUS’ bassist Tariq Ali and features the artist’s last recordings. The three surviving members of the collective -- drummer Chris Wozniak (Lair of the Minotaur, Earthen Grave), bassist John Bomher (Yakuza, Indian) and guitarist/vocalist/visual artist Tom Denney (known for art created for Soilent Green, Kylesa, Saint Vitus, Black Cobra, Rwake, Samothrace among countless others) -- have dedicated the album to Tariq’s memory and pay thanks to his family members, stating that he was 'a good dude on the scene here in Chicago, and was part of the best lineup of the many this band has seen.'
