Although Sepultura are writing songs for their next album, drummer Igor Cavalera is pursuing a side project with Biohazard guitarist Billy Graziadei and Brazilian DJ Patife. Expect the as yet unnamed band to start recording soon. Sepultura fans can also look forward to the release of a soundtrack album called ‘No Coracao Dos Deuses’ which features material written and recorded by Cavalera with guitarist Andreas Kisser. This 1999 record is to be made available in Europe for the first time in May by Mascot Records. It includes a guest appearance from Mike Patton on a track called ‘Procura O Cara’.
The new San Francisco Bay Area-based project featuring Sadus/Testament bassist Steve DiGiorgio, Sadus frontman Darren Travis, and Testament vocalist Chuck Billy, has tentatively set Suicide Shift as its moniker, and are presently finalizing work on 10 original compositions, some of which have been completed, while others still “need a lot of work with Chuck”, according to DiGiorgio.
“Chuck thought of [the name Suicide Shift] first and we weren't sure we liked it,” stated the bassist. “Then it grew on us and when we told him we liked it, [but] it didn't seem like he wanted to use it anymore. I would like to use it, as would Darren, but we haven't discussed the matter [with Chuck] any further in a couple of weeks."
