Said guitarist/vocalist Victor Griffin of the cooperation: "We're extremely happy with this arrangement. I've had my eye on Volcom for some time now. They're a wide-reaching company and have their hand in other markets besides music... a clothing line, skateboard/surfing apparel, and more. It's cool that a company like this loves heavy music and only puts out the stuff they really dig. It's just a whole different angle than the way labels typically work."

English label Ritual Productions has issued the following announcement about releasing Bong's "Beyond Ancient Space" album:
"Ritual Productions is proud to announce the release of 'Beyond Ancient Space' from Bong, a band who have cut their teeth on the live circuit, as well as releasing a plethora of splits, live records and studio recordings for over five years now.
"As with all their music be it live performance or studio recordings, Beyond Ancient Space follows the same ritualistic path, that is to say the songs are all mesmerizing meditative jams centered around an unfurling guitar riff and gelled by spaced-out drum beats, the occasional crashing cymbals and Dave Terry's distinctive vocal style. Once again Bong are shunning any overdubs and keep the postproduction to a minimum. The resulting sound is as deeply hypnotic as ever before and presents Bong at their most prolific, particularly on songs such as 'Across The Time-stream' and 'Onward To Perdóndaris' which surpass even the highest of expectations.
"Slow, chanting vocals and spoken-word sections are drawn from the lands of Lord Dunsany, Clark Ashton Smith and other dreamers‘ tales from the early 20th century, mirroring their stories of hashish-induced sojourns to outer worlds. Musical influences include 1970s psychedelic rock groups (especially Parson Sound) and doom staples such as Come My Fanatics - era Electric Wizard and Sleep‘s Jerusalem. More...
Hard partying U.K. band Asking Alexandria was banned from a club in a heavily Christian section of Nashville, Tenn., the group's publicist reports.
"The group's reckless image proved to be too much for the conservative venue Rockettown in Nashville, TN who deemed the band 'too controversial' and banned them," a spokesman for the band said. "This primarily Christian area hasn't been this riled up since the days of the antichrist Marilyn Manson's notorious run, but Asking Alexandria make no apologies as rock n' roll is supposed to be dangerous and exciting."
The band moved the April 12 show to Cannery Ballroom on April 12th.

Lead guitarist Chris Greene commented on the band's sound: "It’s the new old school. All of our influences are classic metal and hard rock bands, but we channel them into our own sound. Each song tells a story and has a beginning, middle, and end. That keeps things interesting."
"It’s basically about a weekend where we live," Green went on to say. "You go out, have a few drinks, and get in a scuffle but it’s a good time. We’re the odd ones out in South Wales. We’ve got long hair, love heavy rock music and don’t play rugby. We’re always fighting back."

Comprised of two Dallas Cowboys (Marc Colombo and Leonard Davis) and a Miami Dolphin (Cory Procter), Free Reign is certainly a larger than life heavy metal crew. In the group, right tackle Colombo handles vocals, right guard Davis handles bass, and center/guard Procter mans the drums. With the line-up rounded out by non-footballer and accomplished guitarist Justin Chapman, the quartet is readying the release of an all-new single, "One Step Away," which follows up on the promise of last year's five-song release, "Tragedy."
Explains Colombo, "'One Step Away' is a song about feeling close to success - whether it'd be a band that has worked so hard but could not quite reach their dream, or a team/player that's accomplished so much but a championship just seems to allude them. What keeps people coming back is the idea that maybe this time nothing will stand in your way of achieving your ultimate goal."
"One Step Away" will be released by the band via its own label, DC Rightside Music, and a new, full-length studio album will follow-up the single in April 2011. Recently, Free Reign won Revolver Magazine's Golden Gods Award, for "Most Metal Athletes."

"We are happy to present a preview track from the upcoming 'Poarta de dincolo' MCD, 'La marginea lumii (Outskirts of the world).' The track is now available on Reverbnation, Facebook and Myspace. The MCD will be released officially on April 25.
"The material was recorded at Negura Music studio. As the name suggests it, 'Poarta de
dincolo' (A gate from the above or Carrying from the other side) focuses on exploring the relation between worlds, either from above, under or beyond... The four tracks of the MCD present a spiritual travel to the possibilities of our inner being, reflected on the world above and beyond, on our ethereal and material being. Symbolical meanings engraved in the deepest corners of our mind open the world’s mysteries… Long forgotten symbols empower the soul to recognize and expand the limits of our very existence. All is inside, all is on the outside.
"'Poarta de dincolo' is the last Negura Bunget material to be released by code666 Records marking the end of a collaboration started almost 10 years ago."

"Into Darkness" returns to the light right before the band's performance at this year's Roadburn festival in Tilburg, Holland. The Roadburn Festival appearance marks Winter's first performance since reuniting last year.

Onslaught drummer and founding member Steve Grice has announced that he has quit the band. In a statement released to Blabbermouth.net, Grice stated:
"With great reluctance and sadness, I must announce that I am no longer prepared to fulfill the role of drummer for Onslaught, the band that I helped found in 1983, and which I brought back together in 2005. This has been a very difficult and painful decision to make, and follows a series of events that, in my opinion, have seen the recurrence of old patterns of behavior that fuelled the band's original demise in 1991.
"This culmination of occurrences came to a head when I learned through a third party that the band had booked a series of shows without my knowledge, and with the intention of using another drummer, during a period of time reserved for family commitments. Be very clear — the temporary use of another drummer does not present me with a problem. My issue is with the fact that at no point did anyone from the band let me know that these decisions had been made. More...

Illustrator and film concept artist Warren Flanagan (Watchmen, The Incredible Hulk, 2012) is the talent behind the album artwork. Here, he shares his creative process on the new album’s artwork:
"The idea was to create imagery that was a little darker in tone to previous Symphony X albums and to represent the overall theme of Iconoclast into the artwork. The whole concept came from Mike [Romeo], who had a strong idea of what the cover should represent based off the music. I just ran with it. When the album’s title was decided on, I focused the image based on the meaning of it. I also wanted to use the band’s signature 'masks' but present them in a way that connected to the new album."
