Finnish band Ancara has issued the following update about acquiring a new guitarist:
"Tuomas "Gary" Keskinen known from bands Technicolour, Negative and Monday, is the new guitarist of Ancara. Gary replaced Samuel Hjelt, who left the band earlier this year.
"First of all we want to thank all of the guitarist candidates for their interest towards our band. We are very pleased with our new member, who has a heaps of experience under his belt and solid vision in making music. As a band we have strived for more groove orientated playing, so from that point of view Gary fits more than well into our band" tells bands bassist Mika Rajala.
"Gary can also be heard on the next Ancara album, that the band has been working on with producer Hiili Hiilesmaa during the past winter. The recording process is nearly finished and the album will be released in August 2009 thru Timo Kotipelto's High & Loud Records."

Susperia has issued the following update about their vocalist undergoing open heart surgery:
"Despite further complications SUSPERIA singer Athera (Pal Mathiesen) successfully underwent open heart surgery on Monday 16th March 2009 at Rikshospitalet University Hospital, Oslo, Norway. Originally scheduled to have a triple by pass operation, surgeons discovered further problems which resulted in the vocalist also having a main artery - which previously ran to his lungs - connected directly to his heart. Athera will remain in hospital to recuperate and has been advised by doctors that full recovery will take between three and five months.
"Still in some agony from his ordeal and in reflective mood, Athera said: "Wow - Well what happened there!! It looks like this time my name wasn't on the guest list at the pearly gates or the other place down below. I got through the surgery and I'm now back in the regional hospital after five days at the specialist heart clinic. Here in my hospital bed I'm contemplating the enormity of what happened - the what if's and the what might have been. I'm in agony but the strong medication helps. It was a heavy operation having my body parts re-arranged - If a musician ever needed a "TUNE UP" I hope this was it. There are some tough times ahead but I will get there in the end." More...

Chilean death metal band Thornafire are in the midst of recording their sophomore album for Ibex Moon Records titled "Vorax Deconstruction." Guitarist Victor Mac-Namara had this to say about the recording process:
“We have finished the drums and guitars for our new album. All that is left is the bass, vocals, some arrangements with synths, and some obscure characterizations from an actress to work the concept of the new album. We are very anxious and we hope to get a great album of death metal. The songs that we composed are not in the current way of endless blast beat songs. We do it the old way - memorable music with variety, twisted riffs, and lot of madness!”
German progressive metal band, SAVAGE CIRCUS, has posted the first song, "The Ordeal," off their new album on their MySpace page. SAVAGE CIRCUS has also posted the following personal letter to their fans:
"Hi to all the good folks,
It’s been a long time... and if you say too long, you are damned right! Well, there is not really one overall reason for this absence; it’s more or less a combination of smaller and bigger things in the life of the individual band members. But there’s been one thing for sure, that struck all of us at the same time: the separation from Thomen. This hit us right in the middle of the first songwriting process for the follow up album to 'Dreamland Manor' and – as you may imagine – was not really a boost to our creativity. This had to be 'digested" for a while...' More...
In recent years, I've decided that March marks our anniversary since that's when we posted our first news story - let's call it a "soft launch" - even though the official launch was in April, 2001. Unlike the prior year when we had a lot of technical updates to the site, the biggest improvements to Metalunderground.com in this past year have been the additions to our staff. We've grown by a large number of writers and are better covering the full range of metal genres in news, reviews, and interviews, with the quality improving in every area as well. For the first time ever, our reviews section is running at full throttle, with at least one new review posted each day (so check out our new reviews if you haven't been paying attention).
It's hard to believe that it's been eight years since I first launched Metalunderground.com, originally as a one-man show. The sheer size of the site, staff, and our readership has surpassed what I ever imagined. Yet, at the same time there's so much more I planned to have done on the site. It's a tough task balancing family and demanding job with a hobby this size, contributing to the site every day and still finding time to code additional features. I have to thank all of our contributors, past and present, for helping keep Metalunderground.com up to date, writing interesting articles, and helping to get where we're at now. My hope is that with the exceptional staff we have now that we continue to grow and get more recognition, and that I will be able to add more new features this year as well.
Since the site's inception, we've posted over 43,000 news articles and covered more than 7,000 bands that are in our database. We currently serve well over 600,000 page views per month to over 250,000 visitors.
I want to thank all of our contributors for making Metalunderground.com one of the top metal sites around. I also want to thank all of our readers, and especially those who have made Metalunderground.com their metal destination of choice, for making it one of the best communities to participate in. Even as the owner, I enjoy reading the contributions of our staff and discussing metal news with our readers on a daily basis.
Here's to many more years of Metalunderground.com! I promise we have some more surprises in store in the near future.

Evergrey has issued the following announcement about canceling all but two of their upcoming European tour dates:
"This month is getting embarrassing, for us and the people who we work with. We are sorry to announce, that for circumstances and reasons beyond our control, we are forced to cancel the scheduled Evergrey European tour in April.
"We would like to apologize to all the fans of both bands for the last minute decision and promise to work on getting new dates set up as soon as possible. Its always hard to let people down and both bands were extremely excited to play for all of their fans in Europe but sometimes things apparently don't go as planned. Which makes us in the band really frustrated and mad.
"I hope all of you understand that we are a band nothing more. This is what we live off and for, to play and tour, therefore we can promise that we are more sorry than anyone. This might not ease the disappointment for some of you but as said it's out of our control and involves so much details that none of you would be wiser of knowing.
"As with the canceled date in Atlanta we promise to make up for it as soon as we can and get a chance. More...
Frontiers Records has issued the following announcement about the release date of Saint Deamon's upcoming album:
"Frontiers Records is excited to announce the release of the new album from SAINT DEAMON “Pandeamonium” on May 22nd in Europe and June 9th in the USA.
"Named after a fictitious ghost rider called S. Deamon, and with a nod towards the contrast between the heavenly/diabolical feel of the name, the Saint Deamon was put together in 2006 by drummer Ronny Milianowicz (ex Dionysus and songwriter for Primal Fear, Cans and Place Vendome among others), together with bass player Nobby Noberg (also ex Dionysus), guitar virtuoso Toya Johansson and the golden voice of the Norwegian Jan Thore Grefstad (ex Highland Glory). The band debuted in early 2008 with a stunning album “In Shadows Lost From the Brave”, a record that garnered great acclaim from both critics and fans.
"Saint Deamon toured extensively in support of the release during 2008, with gigs in Sweden, Norway, Austria, Italy, England and USA appearing in some of the world’s finest metal festivals like Prog Power US and Bloodstock UK creating a vast buzz being one of the hardest working band in the scene.
"Just over a year after the release of their debut album, Saint Deamon are back with a strong head wind in their sails with the worthy follow up “Pandeamonium”. Produced by two of the world’s most famous Heavy Metal producers, Roy Z (Judas Priest, Halford, Helloween, Bruce Dickinson, who also co-wrote the album’s title track with the band) & Jens Bogren (Opeth, Paradise Lost, Amon Amarth), “Pandeamonium” shows a well oiled Metal machine that has no limits in terms of inspiration, musical direction and focus, dedicated members or professionalism."

Regain Records has issued the following statement about signing a record deal with Merauder:
"REGAIN RECORDS is very proud to announce the signing of NYHC veterans MERAUDER. Jorge Rosado (vocals) has issued the following statement: “MERAUDER, the Metalcore kings and creators are teaming up with Regain Records to bring you their long awaited album titled “God Is I”(scheduled for June 19th, 2009 on Regain Records). This is one of the most important and brutal records we..ve ever worked on and it..s all worth it!!! Come out and support us on tour with THE HAUNTED – tour starts in April.”
"Some words about the new MERAUDER album “God Is I”: The most focused recording since “Master Killer”, “God Is I” finds MERAUDER in perfect shape. Melding the bands roots with modern bite, the intent becomes immediately clear within seconds of the albums suckerpunch opening riff; “Until” hones in on it's listener and the chase begins. Runaway freight train grooves, mid-pace stomps, seething gang vocals and death metal drenched riffs all find themselves vying for supremacy amidst their patented NYHC delivery."

Los Angeles thrashers Anger As Art have issued the following update about recording a new album:
"Blame it on me. Unfortunately Anger will not be performing on April 18 at the Castle. I was ambitious enough to believe that between the pre-pro and recording process, the Abattoir tour, and Dave touring with Neil Turbin and the Deathriders - that we could get in and bash out a live set of new tunes. The most important thing is giving you guys a great album. The live stuff will follow. Tracking will be happening in May - very soon we will have an update with the studio info, producer, engineer, mixer, reveal the artwork, and all of that stuff.
"It feels to me like we have been away forever - we have. I am not used to being a studio rat - I am itching to get out and play live. It is coming, and will be worth the wait. thanks everyone. Leave your complaints in the blog comment section (or positive words - lol)."
U.K. based death metallers Annotations of an Autopsy have issued the following announcement about parting ways with their bassist:
"Ross Davey has decided to part ways with AOAA as of march 25th 2009 There is no bad blood or anything, we didnt kick him out it was down to a number of reasons which would have prevented him from touring full time with us. Its sad to see him go, hes been with us for years and we'll still remain friends. We've had some awesome times with you ross thanks for the memories and good luck in whatever you follow in life.
"As of right now we're seeking a full time bassist to join AOAA Who is ready to jump into working on our new album and tour from july onwards. It doesnt matter where in the uk you live as long as you can travel. If youre intrested you must be 18+, be able to tour full time and have alot of stage presence, No shy people who are afraid to krunk their junk on stage You must be a hard worker, be able to take the good with the bad and have a laugh. If youre not into death metal then dont even bother
"If you think youre gonna join the band and walk straight into a set salary then youre mistaken, a band isnt a 9-5 paid job and if you think you can just walk into a bunch of money then you can fuck off.
"If you want to apply. Send a video of you playing "Years of Disgust" Along with a small bio on yourself, what equipment you have and a picture of yourself If youve played in any other bands and have any live videos send us links To firstname.lastname@example.org
