British band Raging Speedhorn is calling it quits after roughly ten years together. Here's a statement from the band:
"I'm a little sad to say that after this year, 2008, Raging Speedhorn will be no more. Some of our old friends knew this already but a while ago we decided that after 10 years it is time to move on and do something else, create something new.
"10 years feels like a really long time and we all feel absolutely blessed to have been part of this band. We have travelled the world playing Speedhorn songs, we've toured the US, Japan and Europe numerous times and played just about every shit hole there is to play in our beloved UK!
"With our last record, we really felt like there was nothing left to do. We feel like 'Before the Sea Was Built' is an apt way to sign off.
"The memories of my 10 years in Raging Speedhorn will stay with me forever. They have been both the happiest and most desperate times of my life. Although I'm sure not one of us would change a second of it.
"We've all come a long way from being 19 years old and living in Corby. And now it's time to make the next transistion and move on to pastures new. I'm sure plenty of new projects will arise involving one or two of us.
"We'll be playing our final ever UK shows sometime in the autumn. Thank you for listening."

Getting bullied in school - it's every young student's worst nightmare, and the basis of "Waking the Demon," the next promo video and U.S. single from Bullet For My Valentine's sophomore album, "Scream Aim Fire" (Jive/Zomba). "Waking the Demon" is probably the hardest song on Bullet's album and has its roots in the band members' own experiences of getting beat up at school because they had long hair or because they were in a band.
According to Bullet For My Valentine's vocalist/lyricist Matt Tuck, "'Waking the Demon' is about finding someone's inner demon. Most of us in the band got pushed around in school so the song is about getting tormented, day in and day out for years, and then one day - 'snap!' - like that!"
The video for "Walking the Demon" was written and directed by Max Nichols (son of Academy Award-winning director Mike) and will breathe a visual life into Bullet's lyrics:
"There's just no limits to the boundaries you push
I've warned you but still you just f**k with my mind
There's no escape from this rage
That I feel
Nothing is real
Breathe for me, don't wake me from this slumber
Stay with me possession taking over."
Bullet For My Valentine is currently co-headlining the North American Taste of Chaos tour which kicked off on February 29. Remaining tour dates are as follows: More...

BLIND GUARDIAN frontman Hansi Kürsch has checked in with the following update:
"We will be attending the upcoming role-playing game convention in Münster, Germany (April 26th, 27th). The role-playing game convention is something like an Eldorado for fans of these kinds of games. And, because we are such game fans ourselves, it is a privilege to be able to introduce the song we have recorded for Sacred 2 - Fallen Angel (aptly named 'Sacred') to this like-minded crowd. Because for us the song shows a perfect mix of mystical pathos and orchestral bombast we are sure that the presentation of the song in combination with selected visual sequences from the game with be a highlight of the convention. See you there."

Erik Tiwaz joined the band in 2000 and participated on "Empiricism" as a regular member. In 2004 he quit the band due to personal reasons but contributed as a session musician to "Origin" in 2006.
Jens Ryland comments on his reunion with the band: "I'm happy to say I'm again joining the proud ranks of BORKNAGAR, but it also feels strange as I have never really cut the string entirely. THE BEREAVED vocalist Travis Neal has posted this message on the band's MySpace page:
Sorry for the time away. I have been back in the US getting everything in order to get back out to Sweden in July for some PR for the new record 'Daylight Deception' due out this summer from VIC records. Everything has kinda been in limbo with the video still being edited and the record in the mixing process. Everything seems to be moving nicely but it just has it's time it has to take. As you are all dying to hear this new record so are we!
I just received a mix of 'Alter The image' today from Tobhias that he received from Dan Swanö. The mix sounds amazing!! We have a feeling you are all gonna love this record! Hopefully I will get a finished mix soon so I can post it up for all of your ears!
We have been starting to throw around ideas for some new material as well. I have been sent stuff and have been talking with the band two to three times a week so we are all on the same page. The new stuff sounds amazing as well. So far all the members in the band are putting together ideas and songs so with all of our own influence and background the music is sounding great!
Like I said I will be back in Sweden in July, We are planning some CD release parties as well as some shows in Orebro, Gothenburg and Stockholm. So hopefully we will be able to reach all of you there and see and hang with you all. I'm really looking forward to the trip back and hanging with all the incredible people I met when I was there again! We possibly have some things in the works for a US tour this year but nothing is written in stone yet so I will not speak of it until I have the solid plan! But it is definitely something to look forward to for THE BEREAVED and for our US fan base.
Well I guess that's all for now, keep checking for updates and news as it comes. Once again we love you all and can't thank you enough for your ongoing support!!! WE'LL SEE YA ALL VERY SOON!!!"

MTV.com has issued the following report from Chris Harris:
During VELVET REVOLVER's show on Thursday night in Glasgow, Scotland, frontman Scott Weiland - who finished another stint in rehab just before the start of the band's European tour - made a rather peculiar and unexpected announcement, one that stirred considerable debate among VR fans all weekend.
According to several media and fan accounts, Weiland told the sold-out crowd that they were "watching something special ... the last tour by Velvet Revolver." At least one account of the evening's proceedings suggests Weiland's revelation was news to the rest of the band; the tour concludes on April 1st in the Netherlands.
"[Guitarist] Slash, [bassist] Duff [McKagan], [drummer] Matt [Sorum] and [guitarist] Dave [Kushner] all looked at each other. ...They sang 'Fall To Pieces,' [and] then Scott goes over to the side of the stage and argues with the sound guy," one eyewitness reported on a forum devoted to the group. "After a couple of songs, he threw his [microphone] down and walked off. After a long wait, Duff came out with the band and sang the start of 'It's So Easy'. Scott shows up about half way through, sang really half-assed, then [was] gone again."
There is yet to be a response to the statements made by MTV from the bands website or management but drummer Matt Sorum had this to say on his blog:
"[We] had a little band turmoil on stage, as you probably all could tell," he wrote. "Being in a band is a lot like being in a relationship. Sometimes, you just don't get along. I guess there has been more turmoil lately, with the cancellations and all. It has been frustrating; I am not going to lie. My career and life in rock and roll has come with its ups and downs. Unfortunately, some people in this business don't realize how great of a life they have. Touring the world, meeting great people, and fans all over the world - and just playing music for a living. I feel truly blessed. But sometimes the road can be draining for some.
"Being away from home and family does grind on you sometimes," Sorum continued. "Personally, I love this sh-- and sometimes can't believe I am so lucky to still be doing what I do for a living. Everybody could see who was unhappy [at the Glasgow show], but all I can say is let's keep the rock alive, people. In this life, you just pick up and keep moving. And don't ever let anybody stand in your way."

New Jersey melodic metallers, Skies Devoured, issue the following update on their MySpace page:
"If you haven’t noticed yet, the newly-recorded tracks that were intended for the EP are up on the player. Now, the entire "former EP" is available for your listening pleasure--from "Untitled" to "Beyond the Frozen Gates". Unfortunately, we are not using these tracks for an EP. Instead, we’re releasing the six tracks as a 2008 Demo."
"As of now, we are working on brand new songs so we can play them live for you all. =) These songs are intended for an album of some sort. As far as the theme of the songs go, we are still dwelling in the realm of dark emotion, betrayal, and various other epic themes. There will also be melody...lots of it!"
"Stay tuned...stay METAL!!"
REVOLTING is the name of a new band from Rogga Johansson (PAGANIZER, RIBSPREADER) which is dedicated to the absolute worship of late '80s death metal (CARNAGE, IMPETIGO) and horror/gore films from the 1980s. "With today's modern horror sucking beyond redemption and death metal being plagued by rap, emo, and fake boring 'brutality,' Rogga felt it was time to do a truly PURE and ugly, rotting, putrid death metal band for the love of it and to get back to the basics of what all of this madness is about anyway!" according to a press release.
Kam Lee (MASSACRE, DENIAL FIEND) is set to share the vocals along with Rogga Johansson (RIBSPREADER, PAGANIZER) for the band REVOLTING. Side by side, juxtapositionally, The Tyrant and the Revolting One shall bring an onslaught of terror and sheer horrid vocal mayhem to the scene with their contrast and different forms of style. They are coming together and blending their unique vocal techniques along with their all-out shared admiration of '80s horror and "true" death metal as the band REVOLTING.
Teaming up with Razorback Records, the label known for its obsession with old-school metal and horror, REVOLTING chose its name "to reflect the gross, nasty, gory, and insane horror films from the '80s such as 'Street Trash', 'The Blob', 'Redneck Zombies', and other mutant gross-out fests that make life worth living," according to a press release.
The spirit of IMPETIGO is alive and well, and REVOLTING is looking to keep the gory tradition going with the release of their debut album, "Dreadful Pleasures", sometime in 2008 on Razorback Records.
Commented Kam Lee: "Plans to do BEWARE are still to unfold, and I'm looking forwards to my involvement with Stevo, Billy Nocera, and the fiends of GRUESOME STUFF RELISH with that band as well. The guys in GRUESOME STUFF RELISH have just released a great 'new' album on Razorback Records called 'Horror Rises From The Tomb' and are gearing up to do some U.S. shows and tours in support of their new release, Stevo is involved with getting his band CONVULSIONS off the ground, and I'm just as actively involved with DENIAL FIEND. However, the offer to be a part of REVOLTING was just too good of an offer to back away from. Rogga is a supererb musician with just the right knowledge and just enough derranged and disturbed conditioning to do this with, and plus the lyrical approuch and horror theme is right up my dark alley! I would have been an idiot to say no to this!"

Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, Icepick, Kingdom Of Sorrow) has checked in with the following update:
"A lot of people have been writing me asking me about my solo dates and upcoming shows with both of my bands Hatebreed and Kingdom Of Sorrow. I've been getting a lot of questions and inquiries about booking. First, I'd like to thank everyone for interest and second I'd like to answer some of the questions. Hopefully this helps, see you all on the road!
1. What is the JASTA solo show all about?
Basically I perform songs from all three of my bands, as well as some covers, vote @ www.jameyjasta.com. I jam with a bunch of cool dudes from the band PHANTOMS. We play small bars, clubs and halls. Most of the time on really short notice in places you wouldn't think you'd hear some of these songs played live. This is just a fun way for me to play in places that I haven't played in years and I get to play cities and venues that it is hard to play with Hatebreed. I will eventually put out a solo record, maybe Halloween time of '08? But Hatebreed will always be my #1 priority and we will have our DVD coming out soon as well as a live album and a covers CD THIS YEAR! Later this year we will get back to writing our new album as well.
2. How can I book a JASTA solo show?
My old pal Tim Borror at The Agency Group books my solo shows. Please do not bother him unless you are a serious promoter and have promoted successful shows in the past. Thanks! email@example.com."
It's been announced that a new DVD entitled Iron Maiden And The New Wave Of British Of Heavy Metal will be released on June 10th via MVD Entertainment. The documentary is described by its distributors as follows:
"Back in 1976, nobody really knew that there was an old wave of British Heavy Metal. But within two years of their formation, Iron Maiden had spearheaded what came to be abbreviated the NWOBHM, and as with punk the year before, a new generation of Rock musicians bought in a new wave of the genre - and in the process made loud, raw, heavy rock the global phenomenon it is today. For the first time this film investigates this New Wave - the bands, the records, the media and the series of unconnected events that led to this astonishing, durable and still hugely relevant form which is still heard today in virtually every rock record released. Focusing on Maiden and the other pivotal bands of the time, such as SAXON, SAMSON, PRAYING MANTIS, DIAMOND HEAD, TYGERS OF PAN TANG and many others, this DVD is the ultimate expose of a style that may not get as much press as punk, but is equally as relevant to the music of the second millennium. It features rare footage of all the main NWOBHM bands; Live and studio recordings of the pivotal tracks; Scarce news items and archive of the movement, from the time, as it unfolded around the UK; Seldom seen photographs, many from private collections. It also includes exclusive interviews with many of the major players, including, Iron Maiden's PAUL DIANNO and Dennis Stratton, Diamond Head's Brian Tatler, Tygers Of Pan Tang's Rob Weir, Samson's legendary drummer Thundersticks, Tino and Chris Troy from Praying Mantis, the current line-up of GIRLSCHOOL and many other high profile names from the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. There's also commentary, review and expertise from; Malcolm Dome [Kerrang, Classic Rock] Jerry Ewing [Metal Hammer, Classic Rock] Geoff Barton [staff writer at Sounds during the New Wave] Garry Bushell [Sounds journalist and champion of NWOBHM] Neil Kay [legendary metal DJ from the Soundhouse club] and British metal author and journalist, Joel McIver."
In addition to the documentary, there will also be extended interviews and a NWOBHM interactive challenge.
MACHINE HEAD mainman Robb Flynn has issued the following, very long, update:
"Just got back from Japan after our 'around the world in 15 days tour.' Really awesome experience over there in that part of the world, and for the first time, due to the more open schedule, we really got a chance to soak up the culture and check out some of the sights - something I rarely ever get to do, as most of the time it's straight to the venue, interviews, play show, on to next show. So having the extra time was awesome!
It's been three years since we played the second annual Desert Rock Festival, and the city [Dubai] has literally quadrupled in size... as such the attendance was also a lot higher this year. The show went really well, although humorously, after our fourth song ended and we had a break, I was given a stern warning by our tour manager that went something along the lines of 'stop swearing onstage, the secret police are on the way, and they'll arrest you if you swear again!' And he was fucking serious! I promptly stopped, though one or two bad words may have slipped out 'accidentally.' We were a little bummed that the KILLSWITCH's and the AS I LAY DYING's didn't stick around to hang out, or watch our show, especially since we hadn't seen each other in ages (they had to go shower back at the hotel... presumably together) but the KORN dudes hung out, watched the show, and we raged a bit after. Maybe it was because we've played there twice, but to our surprise, according to the promoters, Machine Head had the highest attendance of the day with over 12,000 people checking us out. Fuck yeah!! Thanks to Jackie and all at Center Stage Management!
Had the day off the next day and watched MUSE play from the side of the stage, and seriously, I was fucking BLOWN AWAY. I've been a big fan of this band for a few years now, but had never gotten a chance to see them, so I didn't really know what to expect, but MAN, I haven't been moved by a band like that in years. Adam [Duce, bass] was hanging out in front too, and was equally blown away, he had never even heard them, and it was a literal revelation for him. Start with 'Absolution'!
Next up was the satanic flight through the shithole airport of Amman, Jordan, where passport control officers and security alike must certainly suck cock on the side for extra cash. We eventually made it through to Israel and checked out the beach a bit before getting to the club. Show was sold out in advance and having never played in Tel Aviv, we didn't really know what to expect. Playing in a country that has been ravaged by war for the last 60 years, staying in a city that is less than 50 miles away from the Gaza Strip definitely adds a bit of an edge to any show, but man... what a fuckin' incredible experience. Quite literally one of the greatest shows and audiences we have ever played to, it was a near-religious experience. FUCK! People were feeling it so hard, sing-a-longs were unreal, 'Descend' made a very real connection with the audience, heavy energy... you could practically see it, it was so real. We basically played until we dropped, sweating every fucking thing we had out. We seriously felt more alive after this show than I think we ever have. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you Israel. More...
