For the latest of the horribly hilarious (or hilariously horrible?) mashups, we have Slipknot and Justin Bieber combining for "Psychosocial Baby." If you really like it, you can even download it here (just don't admit it if you want to keep your metal cred or dignity).
It's been nearly a year since the prog laced death metal atom bomb "Curse of the Red River" was dropped on the world, and for much of that time North American fans were denied the chance to see Barren Earth rock the songs live. That oversight was rectified with the Finnish Metal Tour 2, in which the super group was finally able to alternate between destroying fan's ear drums with blasting death metal and then soothing things over with melodic proggy passages.
Barren Earth keyboardist Kasper Martenson found the time to chat with me about the tour as the band worked its way through the U.S. and Canada with fellow acts Finntroll, Rotten Sound, and Ensiferum.
During our talk, Kasper discussed hitting the road in the U.S. for the first time with the band, gearing up to record a sophomore album, and the direction Barren Earth will be going with new music in the future. More...

German power metal act Gamma Ray will be releasing a new collection titled "Skeletons & Majesties." Set for release in the U.S. and Canada on May 31st via Armoury Records/Eagle Rock Entertainment, "Skeletons & Majesties" is a collection of songs Gamma Ray gathered from previous albums represented in two completely different styles.
The first two tracks are the "Skeletons," featuring brand new versions of some of Gamma Ray's songs rarely played live, including "Hold Your Ground" (from the "Heading For Tomorrow" album) and "Brothers" (from the "Insanity And Genius" album).
The second section, "Majesties," is where the band displays two more new versions of rarities, "Send Me A Sign" (originally on the "Powerplant" release) and "Rebellion In Dreamland" (originally on "Land Of The Free"), both performed in a new acoustic presentation.
Additionally, Gamma Ray has also included some bonus tracks, including the rare song "Wannabees" - previously only released on the "To The Metal!" 7’" - as well as an extended version of "Brothers."
To top it off, the final track on the EP is another version of "Rebellion In Dreamland," this time karaoke style. The band has launched a special contest, where the group will be integrating a "choir" of fans' voices on the upcoming album version of the song. Diehards and wailers can take part in the competition by submitting a recording of their version of the song via physical demo submission or digital sound file. Since the release of the band's debut album "In Hatreds Flame" in July 2008, Exmoruts has kept busy touring and gigging relentlessly with bands such as label mates Vektor and L.A. black thrashers Witchaven. After suffering a temporary setback with the departure of former front man Balmore during early 2010, the band rebounded quickly with lead guitar shredder Conan taking over on vocals and the addition of new guitarist Sean Redline.
The short break from the band's busy live schedule also provided the act with the time needed to complete material for the upcoming sophomore album entitled "Beyond the Fall of Time." The death-thrash quartet entered Black Static Studio in Los Angeles to begin recording "Beyond the Fall of Time," tentatively scheduled for release during late summer 2011 on Heavy Artillery Records.
Drummer Mario Moreno had this to say about the new line-up and progress in the studio to date:
"We’ve been at Black Static Studios for nine days now and we feel that we couldn’t have picked a better studio to capture the new material. The line-up change during early 2010 set our original recording plans back by several months so we’re excited to finally be recording this album. With the new line-up of Conan on vocals and the addition of Sean Redline on second guitar the band is at its strongest ever. We’re really happy with the new material and the heavier sound. Sean has contributed a lot of great ideas to the album overall and Conan will finally get to showcase his vocals."
You can listen to the demo versions of "Destroy" and "Entombed with the Pharaohs" from the upcoming album at this location.
Norwegian band The Konsortium has issued the following announcement about releasing a debut album in June:

As many of you know this date was originally intended to be the Elysee Montmatre show in Paris. Unfortunately, as you are probably aware by now, there was a fire at the Elysee Montmatre which we are all deeply saddened by because we've had many good times there in the past and we're looking forward to playing there again at some point in the future. Despite this tragedy we have managed to arrange an alternative Parisian show at the Bataclan on the 3rd of April.
