Jon Schaffer and IcedEarth.com got together on March 13, 2009 for an update on the band's forthcoming live DVD as well Jon's plans for the immediate future.
The audio interview can be downloaded here (mp3 format, 8.4 MB). The main talking points of the interview are outlined below.
Regarding the immediate plans for ICED EARTH:
JS: “Well, right now I’m wrapping up the post-production for the, “FESTIVALS OF THE WICKED” DVD which I expect will come out late Summer or Fall of this year. I don’t know that for sure, it depends on when we wrap things up, but that’s the plan. That’s the next project.
“ICED EARTH is going to be taking some downtime. I’ve been very, very busy. I haven’t taken any kind of vacation in six years and I have been non-stop ICED EARTH for three-and-a-half years - from the beginning of the writing of both of these records through the recording, the touring – and there has been a lot of touring…it’s just time. I need to step back from it a little bit. And I’ve got other things planned for this year which I’ll be announcing in due course, but my goals are for right now are to get the DVD finished and (then) to get away completely – no cell phones, no e-mail, no contact with the outside world, just me and my family at a very nice isolated place, no music business, no nothing, and it’s going to be awesome. That’s going to be cool and I plan to come back completely recharged and ready to kill.”
Regarding the kind of projects Jon will be working on after returning from vacation: More...

Every Time I Die has issued the following update about recording a new album:
"we start recording today with steve evetts. you know that name is a palindrome? like that they might be giants record "I Palindrome I" which wasnt really a palindrome but it was clever in the same way that evetts isnt his real last name but it is steve pronounced backwards. is it clear i drove 21 hours? we got in last night from buffalo. 47 hours straight shot to orange county to start the new record today with evetts steve in anaheim. i listened to the same 5 howard sterns because the music on my ipod sucks and i would rather hear richard christie prank tradio than make the band suffer through the entire counting crows catalogue because while they're one of my favorite bands, the rest of the guys dont agree.
"i dont want to give away too much about this record in terms of the direction we're moving with it, but someone on absolutepunk.net said i could shit into a mic and they'd listen so they kind of ruined our big surprise. its basically just going to be one session of me "dropping the kids off at the pool" with 8 remixes. 6 of them dance versions using pro tools, vocoders and pitch shifters. another one with guest vocals by someone from a band that has neon slime merchandise at hot topic and then of course the original. whatever sells. we will be videotaping basically the entire process, posting portions on here and portions on our modlife site which will be open shortly. also, rather than trashing un-used lyrics like i normally do, ive held onto them. as i go through and rewrite and revise while here, ill be posting some of them so you guys can see the process rather than just the product. is that pretentious? maybe it is. fuck it maybe i wont do that. i dont know yet. its like "hey hobo's, did you find a nice crouton in my trash? thats cool, i dont need it. i got a box of croutons". yea i think im gonna scratch that idea. Mikael Akerfeldt, of Opeth fame, has recently posted a blog on his MySpace page asking for help from anyone and everyone in locating hard to find records. To see the extensive list of records that might well shine some light on the legendary frontman's influences read the entire blog at this location. An excerpt from the blog follows:
Got a massive repsonse on the last blog, and lots of suggestions where to find the Freddy Lindquist ”Menu” Lp. Yet I forgot to mention I’m only after the original 1st pressing, not Cd’s, counterfeits or reissued vinyl. Yes I’m anal like that….! Anyways, got me thinking…why don’t I list all the albums I’m after??? Maybe you’d stumble upon something by “accident” that I’d be interested in?
"Basically I’ve been a record collection for years and despite my travels around the globe there’s still a bunch of records that I haven’t found. And on top of that I never have enough spare time to wander round the record shops these days. Oh, and there aren’t many of them around either any more for that matter.
"I’m not looking for gifts, I will pay good money for some of these records and I insist on paying for these should you find them, OK? No gifts please!! Just to get that outta the way… Obviously if you help me out I’ll treat you to tickets and backstage passes when Opeth comes to a city near you…no problemo!
"Secondly, again, I’m only looking for original 1st pressings, no CD’s, reissues or anything like that. I will list the Lp’s divided into countries where the bands were from, so that it might be easier to track down domestic artists if you live in the specific country…who knows?
"Email me here if you find something or got questions. Also, the better the condition, the better the dough I’ll cough up for ‘em.
"And, thanks in advance, help an ol’ music junkie out will ya???"
