InsideOut Music has announced the worldwide signing of the prog act Headspace. Headspace keyboardist Adam Wakeman (also of Ozzy Osbourne, and son of Yes' Rick Wakeman) comments about the signing:
"We are so pleased to be joining forces with InsideOut. We have spent a long time making sure that this album is exactly how we want it; and to have a label behind us that fully understands where the band is coming from and what we're about is incredibly important to us. It's a perfect match."
The band began as a way for Wakeman and a close circle of his musician friends to reconnect. There were no preconceptions of launching a progressive metal band, and certainly no visions of grandeur - they just played music that they loved. "We're quite open about our influences because that's the music that we love," the band comments. "There's RUSH, YES, GENESIS, a lot of bands. We even give a tip of the hat to DREAM THEATER in a few sections. That's all a part of what we are." More...

Mar 31 - Osaka, Japan
Graf Orlock's new EP, "Los Angeles," is due out April 10th on Vitriol Records. Of Graf Orlock's Hollywood-obsessed hardcore, sometimes referred to as "cinema-grind", MetalSucks has declared, "Not only is their music as mercilessly murderous as you'd want it to be, but their incorporation of elements from action films in brilliant."
Known for the band's next-level artwork - last year's "Doombox" EP was housed in a full-size fold-out "boombox" and was named "Packaging of the Century" by Revolver Magazine - Graf Orlock continues to amaze with "Los Angeles," whose three collectible covers are "shooting range targets" shot up with actual bullets.

First Fragment has posted a video clip online of the band performing the new song "Tsion's Oath," which can be viewed below. The group commented:
"NEW SONG! That was the first time we ever played it live so there were a few fuck-ups and I butchered the solo but it's tight enough and the quality is amazing so check it out. We're gonna play that one plus another new song on March 30. Huge thanks to Mat Paré & Bookaking productions."
A young heavy metal band named Twisted State Of Mind, from Witney in Oxfordshire, England (who featured in an Unearthing The Metal Underground column in January), has been the subject of some controversy this week, when the band members found out that a contest they entered, in which the prize was an opportunity to perform at the Houses Of Parliament, had already had it's winner chosen by British Prime Minister David Cameron five weeks before the closing date.
After taking their problem to the BBC, who contacted the Prime Ministers office, they were told that the Prime Minister would make an exception and allow two bands from Witney to be nominated, leaving them with another chance to showcase their music in Westminster. You can check out a BBC South report on the incident below.
Death/black metal commando Belphegor has started the rehearsal sessions for the band's upcoming new album in Abtenau, Austria. Vocalist/guitarist Helmuth stated:
“All good so far. We just finished the second rehearsing session. Currently we're working on nine sound-collages, added a lot new arrangements, elements and structures. Serpenth, Marthyn and me shredded our asses off in these eleven days. There will be three more until we enter the studio by end of May 2012 and start to track drums. The titles on the set list are working titles. Hell awaits!”
The band has uploaded some photos from the rehearsal session. You can check those out via Facebook.
“It’s amazing to have the opportunity to be creative again and compose a new audible monster," commented Helmuth in an earlier statement. “I began the compositions in November 2011, after I had to spend five weeks in the hospital and 6 weeks in a rehabilitation center because of my health issues. I survived this hard trial, which still seems unreal. I’m not fully recovered but feel way better now, I can say. Unfortunately we had to cancel all tours until June 2012, when we will get back on the road, and will start with some European open air rituals."
The as of yet untitled album is tentatively slated for a late 2012 release. Belphegor's most recent album "Blood Magick Necromance" (reviewed here) was produced by Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy) at his Abyss Studios in Pärlby, Sweden and mastered by Jonas Kjellgren.
Five piece, San Antonio based hard rock act Memory of a Melody has posted a video clip online for the song "Mask," which can be viewed below.
According to a press release, the Texas band has "songs that combine thrashy riffs and catch accessible vocals. The sound is a kind of metal with mass appeal. Having paid its dues working club shows, touring, and opening for immensely popular touring acts, the band has quickly risen to local dominance through high energy stage shows and an unforgettable array of songs."
Central California's atmospheric death metallers Sidian have partnered up with RebelPyro Management and are preparing to take things to the next level as they work on writing their as-yet-untitled forthcoming debut full-length.
After releasing 4 tracks over the course of the last year ("Yersinia Pestis," "Tombs," "Anamorphosis" and a rough mix of "Where the Sun is Silent") and to give fans an idea of what to expect, the band hit Castle Ultimate Studios in Oakland, CA to work with Zack Ohren on a brand new track entitled "Eternal Bloom of Lamenting Dawn." The new track, which is being exclusively debuted this weekend at Stereokiller.com, is the first to feature new drummer Alex Bent (Arkaik, Hatriot) and showcases a marked progression in the band's songwriting abilities.
Guitarist Wyatt Sharp had the following to say about the track: "This new song is a culmination of all of our musical abilities working together at their finest. After putting together a demo, we felt the need to solidify our sound as a band. This new single we are putting out is only a preview of what to expect on our full length. However, it also speaks for our overall attempt to obtain our final sound. So we hope it pleasantly surprises our fans with faster paced, more chaotic, emotional riffs, extremely detailed drums, timing and tempo changes, and outstanding bass lines all compiled under Antonio's extremely unique vocal style complimented by the contrasting vocals from yours truly. San Francisco's malevolent death metal overlords Acephalix are preparing to set their second official full-length loose via Southern Lord this April, delivering with it some of the most uncompromising, old-school death metal brutality of the year.
The fiends at Cvlt Nation have once again proven their loyalty to Acephalix by hosting one of the most rapture-ready tracks from "Deathless Master." Check out the song "On Wings..." right here. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"While their first few releases bore a more metal-edged crustpunk sound, the Acephalix attack has undeniably shown more death metal influence with each passing release. After the cult crust/metal scene success of their Aporia LP, released via Prank Records in 2010, the band dropped two brutal demos -- 2010's Interminable Night and 2011's Flesh Torn In Twilight, Southern Lord brought the two demos together and released a one-time CD pressing of 2000 copies which sold out rapidly. Over the past two years Acephalix have toured relentlessly, doing the Western US with Danish death metal horde Undergang and also taking part in the Power of the Riff 2011 Summer tour alongside Black Breath, Winter, Noothgrush, Eyehategod, Pentagram and more.
"Now officially a part of the Southern Lord roster and a major priority for the label, Acephalix are preparing to assault the planet with their second official full-length, bringing out their most pulverizing, low-end deathcrushing riffage and cavernous vocal malevolence yet with Deathless Master. With an incredibly evil, thundering delivery, the eight hymns harnessed on Deathless Master were recorded with Vöetsek's Jef Leppard, who also recorded Interminable Night. While their punk/crust heritage is still detectable in their songwriting, but the primal delivery of the riffs and guttural, horrifying tone of the vocals on Deathless Master sees the band make the final transition from into a full-fledged, disgustingly behemoth death metal unit. DaiTribe is getting ready to unleash the new album "Epochalypse A.D." later this Spring. Today sees the world premiere of DaiTribe's new video for the first single entitled "I Hate Me." The video is being streamed by Metal Injection here and can be viewed below. The video was shot in Chicago, IL and directed by Nathaniel E. Bell.
Guitarist Tristan '1690' Grigsby commented on the "I Hate Me" video: "I Hate Me is a no nonsense performance video that and a direct representation of what the band is, raw energy."
"We planned to start an eye opening, civil war in your head with this video and it serves its purpose well. Metal doesn't get any more to the point than this," adds vocalist Rich Collins. More...

As we approach the official street date for the thirteenth album from industrial metal purveyors Ministry this Monday, March 26th, fans worldwide can stream all eleven tracks of the mutinous album via Metal Injection all weekend right here. The following press release was issued about the album:
"Following a dozen full-length releases over the past thirty years, and recently ending a four-year hiatus, from deep in the heart of Hell Paso Texas, Al Jourgensen’s Ministry rises against the political machine one more time with the release of 'Relapse,' the album boasting some of the band’s heaviest and fastest material in years, fueled by Jourgensen’s disgust at the world that surrounds us.
"The album strikes out with the no-holds-barred album opening track 'Ghouldiggers' aimed directly at the pitfalls of the industry he has survived over the years, from there segueing directly into one of the heaviest Ministry anthems in years with the crushing 'Double Tap' attack. Jourgensen has rallied with the Occupy Wall Street movement over the past year and recently released the riotous video for the raging '99 Percenters,' speaking out for the majority of the world’s oppressed populations against corporate corruption. Melbourne based melodic deathers Elysian are streaming their debut album, "Wires of Creation," online today via metal website No Clean Singing. The album is set for release worldwide on Monday, March 26th. Check out the full album at this location.
The group is keen to not be lumped in as just another melodic death metal band, as guitarist Gabe Hutchinson explains: “Our main goal was to create a dynamic experience from start to finish whilst maintaining heavy songs. Overall it's a really heavy melodic death album but at times soars into things like an instrumental Pink Floyd-esque song with an electronic feel or a intricate percussive section. As a band, we grew up listening to music that incorporated acoustic ballads with blazing shred songs all in the one album, and it wasn't called progressive; it was called a good album. Some bands aim to have their songs sound disjointed by dramatically switching between genres; that’s not what we have done, the whole album flows, it attacks and it releases, its aggressive but gives you time to breath and take it in.”
The track listing is as follows:
1) Mans Design
3) Climb from Fear
4) Eternal Breath
5) Sense Offender
6) The Gate
7) Play the Hand
8) Calming the Storm (instrumental)
11) A Cry from Helplessness

Century Media Records is proud to announce a worldwide deal with Florida Death Metal icons Massacre. The band is resurrected with two of the original band members: band founders Rick Rozz (guitar) and Terry Butler (bass, also in Obituary). The line-up is completed with Ed Webb (ex-Diabolic, also in Destined to Ruin and Generichrist) on vocals duties and Mike Mazzonetto (ex-Pain Principle) on drums. Century Media commented:
"Everyone who saw the new line-up at recent local shows in Florida or on this year's 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise knows that this is the ultimate line-up to continue the band's legacy with a new album! The first two songs, called 'Back From Beyond' and 'Succumb To Rapture,' are already recorded at CGM Studios in Florida and will be released as a 7" this August 2012 in time for Massacre live at Wacken Open Air in Germany (followed by more shows to be announced soon)."
Rick Rozz added: "I am overwhelmed, and overly flattered, for this great honor in this day & age, of being part of the Century Media Family. I remember touring with Robert Kampf and his band DESPAIR back in the late 1980s, on tour with DEATH, when he was first starting CM...and now we are on the same team 25 years later. After so many years gone by it is great to be working with Terry again and our former DEATH manager Eric Greif, as well as getting to write and record with Ed Webb & Mike Mazzonetto. This whole thing came together on the fly, after 17 years in the waiting. Way cool...if you ask me, nothing but respect!"
Terry Butler commented: "It's a great honor to be part of the Century Media Family and for me personally to be working with Rick again! We have found the perfect band members in Ed and Mike to solidify the line-up. We are very excited and focused to get a new album out in 2012." More...
Today Ohio metal titans Skeletonwitch unveil their brand new video for “The Infernal Resurrection.” The song comes off latest album, "Forever Abomination," which cracked the Billboard Top 200, as well as Decibel's Top 40 of 2011 and finds the band doing what it does best: slaying ears in the live arena. Check out the video below or via Metal Injection. The following press release was issued:
"Like Satan himself set loose in the hallowed halls of heavy metal, these Athens-based headbangers careen wildly through the music’s history, gleefully destroying and setting flame to every genre along the way, only stopping at the forefront of today’s metal scene to look back and watch that fucker burn -- and then piss on the flames. No other band has tapped into the fire, fury, and frost of all things metal like SKELETONWITCH. Released last October through Prosthetic Records, Forever Abomination continues to raise eyebrows with its relentless, fuck-all attack.
"SKELETONWITCH return to the road today beginning with a warm-up show in Cleveland before joining forces with The Black Dahlia Murder, Nile and labelmates Hour Of Penance for a four-week tour that concludes at the New England Metal And Hardcore Festival. This marks the group's first North American tour action of 2012. The band will take a brief break before heading overseas for a stretch of Euro dates. Confirmed dates thus far are included below." South Florida’s, Underlined, has signed a worldwide recording deal with Standby Records - home to Black Veil Brides, Modern Day Escape, Hopes Die Last and Picture Me Broken. The band recently finished recording its debut LP, "Deadtime Stories," at Cleveland’s, Studio D Productions, with producer Don Debiase, which is scheduled to be released this fall.
“Underlined is by far the perfect definition of ‘Rock N’ Roll 2.0,’ which is why we couldn’t be more excited to be the conduit to spread their destruction to the world,” said Standby Records owner, Neil Sheehan. “It’s been almost two decades since bands like Mushroomhead and Slipknot redefined the incorporation of theatrics with punishing metal. No one has done this significantly since...until now.”
As an introduction to Underlined’s destructive force, the band has released the first song from Deadtime Stories, “The Suffering.” A still video showcasing the band’s bizarre look, as well as “The Suffering,” can be found below or at the band's website.
Mixing modern day power with the electronic haze reserved in the past for powerhouse bands like Ministry, Underlined is poised to show a new generation of fans just how punishing the next wave of masked heavy metal bands can be.
“I believe that our contortion of already iconic imagery will only assist us in the carving out of our path in the entertainment industry,” said Underlined frontman, H7. “While the use of make-up, body paint, masks, costuming and special effects are surely nothing new, I damn well know that we're a perfect ‘horror metal’ band of sorts, for all horror movie buffs, metal or industrial music fans and mental patients alike.” More...
